It was terrible and a waste of money. The man came in and we asked him to fix something and he said he does not have time for that. He did not do a good job. He was there for probably an hour at the most. He always said no, he can’t do it because he does not have time. Then I just said forget it and he does have no use for us.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that we purchased. It went fine. They were efficient and got the job done.

It took a while for them to come in, they were very busy. We paid more than the big deal because we didn't want the bathroom they wanted; we wanted to pick out our own stuff. We purchased all of the material ourselves and just asked them to do the work and then, we paid them. They did it very professional job; it was really a nice job. They were meticulous and made the bathroom get more beautiful.

After coming out to provide an estimate and a proposed plan, my wife and I decided that they didn't share our perspective on what we wanted. I contacted the company on 8 separate occasions to receive a refund, which they promised, but never paid. Now I am out $5,000 and my bathroom is still indeed of renovation. DO NOT PURCHASE ANY SERVICES FROM THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE RIPOFFS AND HAVE CHANGED THEIR NAME TO WALK AWAY FROM THEIR COMMITMENTS.

I scheduled an appointment for them, and they called me a little later and told me that they were not able to do the work at that time. They really showed their integrity by sending me a check to refund the $99, instead of stringing me along indefinitely and making me chase them to get my money back.

Vendor was accommodating as far as re-scheduling requests but was unable to perform the work due to family illness. We got a refund from Angie's list.

Average service. He was on time. He did what was requested. The rough work was done but he did not sand it down and paint it since it needed to cure. So it is hard to tell how good a job...

I emailed them for scheduling, but they never responded. Thus, no work was done.

I purchased the $99 Big Deal for 3 hours of handyman work back when they were called HomeDM Remodeling. Our front door was starting to sag and not latch properly and I wanted assistance helping to re-square it and to replace an poorly installed and horribly leaking exterior door in our dining room. I'm moderately handy around the house and thought I would help with the re-leveling of the front door prior to his arrival so I removed the screen door. Turns out it was not necessary and I actually wasted time. What I thought would take well over an hour took about 5 minutes to fix. He removed the mounting screws on the hinge side and used a long crow bar to lift that side of the frame up about 3/4 of an inch. We used my table saw to cut a custom shim to hold it in place before re-installing the mounting screws. He clearly knows his business and the tricks of the trade! I was allowed to help out with getting the previously removed screen door reattached. We then spent the rest of the time removing a horrible exterior door and installing a previously purchased one. We can, once again, eat in our dining room without baking in the summer and freezing in the winter! Thank you very much!!

I purchased the Big Deal and then never redeemed it. I would have used them to install some shoes in an upstairs hallway and master bedroom. I forgot there was an expiration date on the big deal though.

It was difficult for contractor because three siblings with different ideas were involved, but they were very cooperative.

Company sent an email that due to an emergency they would not be able to honor rhe Bid Deal and refunded my money.

BEWARE! This "company" is HORRIBLE! Maggie and her husband (they are not even a true company) refused services after I purchased an Angie's List and they wanted me to spend more than the $99. After badgering me to try to spend more, I stayed firm and said that I only wanted the 2hours for $99 deal. When they realized I was not going to budge, they said they were booked. They did not want to reschedule. I replied that I was going to give negative feedback, this is how Maggie the owner responded :"do it as fast as you can because I collect "F"s from stupid people ( and BTW we do not work with angies list anymore because of people like you) "Maggie Nocun Home Dm Remodeling Corp. I don't think I have ever been called "stupid" by a child, let alone by an adult...so save yourself some time, and DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Unless you like being called "stupid"! They have a history of bad reports...read them and you will see!

"F " RATING - NOT RECOMMENDED! I purchased through Angie's List one of the specials advertised by Home DM Remodeling for 3 hours of handyman service for $99.00. This service was for some handyman work at my elderly mother's home in the western Chicago suburbs. I spoke to Maggie (wife and co-owner of company) about scheduling time for the handyman work at my mother's home. She said that they were very busy because of their deal special and it would be approx. 30 days before they could come out (red flag #1). Derek the other co-owner of the company came to my mother's home on Oct. 24, 2011 for the handyman service. My mother needed small, multiple repairs done inside her home and she also wanted a quote to replace an old patio door. Derek started looking around an initiating some of the handyman work. After one hour of work, Derek said that he needed to leave and that he would come back in a few days to finish his work and to give my mom a quote for replacing the patio door (red flag #2). My mother thought that this was a bit odd, but trusted what he said. Maggie called me back few days later with a quote for the installation of a door, (approx. $500), but stated that it would be just "easier for them" if my mother purchased a patio door on her own from a big box hardware store and Derek will then go pick it up and install it. I stated that my mother is nearly 80 years old and has no idea what type of door to get. She needed some help with figuring out which one to order with the right dimensions, etc. Maggie said that it was really just up to her and they can install it. Not much help at all. I then spoke to my mother about her needing to go to the local hardware store and ordering and a replacement patio door. My mom thought that if Home DM wanted to to this work, and make additional money beyond the three hours of handyman work, that they should be a bit more helpful than basically saying to her to figure it out herself with the hardware store salesperson. So my mother decided to skip having Home DM Remodeling replace the old patio door and just have them finish up the two hours of handyman work. It then took a few more additional months for Maggie to schedule a time for Derek to come back to her house. On the day of his second appointment with my mother, he called about an hour before his scheduled time of arrival and told her that he "was at the courthouse and wasn't able to come to do the work that day." He said that he would come the following day, but never showed up. My mother called and spoke to Maggie a few days later to complain about the terrible customer service she was getting and Maggie hung up the phone on her while she was talking. My mother then tried several more times to schedule Derek to finish the work, but he never showed up. My mother received a call from Maggie at the end of March, 2012, stating that Derek would be at her house to complete the handyman work on April 5, 2012, but he again never showed up or called. My mother wasted yet again an entire day sitting at home and waiting for Derek to show up to do the handyman work. She has no interest in having this company back in her home and has now contacted a different handyman service after 6 months of trying to work with this company. Based on this terrible service record and work not completed (barely even started), I am giving this remodeler and handyman service an "F" rating. I would like for Home DM Remodeling to refund me the $99 for not performing the services they offered for the September, 2011 Angie's List Deal. I would NOT recommend this company to other Angie's List members.

I decided not to use them again in the future because they were unresponsive. Theydid finally call me back and said they had left me a message several days before that they couldn't make the appointment due to a family issue. I believe them, but think they left the message on some other number as I had nothing on my machine. I give them credit for trying, but I wish they had kept trying until actually reaching me in person.

Overall, the experience was positive. Derek and his crew were nice, professional, and punctual, once the job was started. Our new bathroom looks wonderful, especially for the outstanding price. We would definitely use them again, especially if it was such a great deal. The work was completed in a very timely manner. Derek offered to have tile installed on our walls as well, and did not charge us extra for the labor, which was incredibly generous, especially given the deal we were already getting, and it looks great! Especially given that we have a baby, I was expecting that having contractors in our house for a week would be a nightmare, but they were as unobtrusive as possible. Also, we only have one bathroom, so they made sure that we had a toilet in every night while the work was being done, which was a huge plus. In my experience, some companies offer big discounts to get business but then act as though they are put out by having to provide their service, and only do the minimum. This was not our experience with Home DM. They treated us as a valued client, and Derek told us several times that he wanted us to be completely satisfied and happy with our bathroom. We only had a few minor issues: There was about a week's delay from our original planned start time, due to a delay with the project before ours and in getting our village permits. Fortunately, my husband was able to change the days he had taken off work for the job. When the village did their inspection, there was one aspect of the plumbing that was not up to code and had to be changed. Overall, it did not change the end product or delay the work, but if the inspector hadn't required it to be fixed, it might have caused an issue when we sell our house or possibly caused an issue later with the plumbing. My husband said that one day a worker left the gate to our fenced-in back yard open. If he had not noticed in time, our dogs could have gotten out and ran into the street (so not a big deal, but could have been huge). We had a little trouble communicating our wishes regarding choice of vanity, fixtures, etc. to Derek. In the end, we got everything just as we wanted, but at the time, the process was a little bit stressful. This would not have been an issue if we had gone with the standard materials that are included in the deal. As it was, it would make things easier if they had an organized system for picking out materials for people who want to select their own. He seemed to sometimes not understand quite what we were asking or telling him, but we eventually got it figured out.

I called to schedule my 3 Hours of Handyman work that I had bought through an Angie's List Big Deal. The woman was very nice to schedule with and I was looking forward to having my big "to do" list finally taken care of! The week before my appointment, she called to reschedule as there had been a scheduling error and the handyman had scheduled something else for himself. So we rescheduled, which was not convenient for me but I needed to get the work done before I left for vacation and my AL Big Deal expired. The handyman was supposed to be at my house at 9am on Monday morning, and after rearranging everything, I received a call at 8 am saying the handyman couldn't make it. AND he is now busy until the end of May and will no longer be able to do my job - ever! They are supposedly sending me a refund check. How nice for this guy to have so much work that he can just cancel and not worry about honoring some of his prior commitments. That's bad business!!

After reading positive reviews of previous Big Deal bathroom remodels, we decided to purchase one ourselves. Maggie was very responsive in answering initial questions about the process, and setting up our appointment time with her husband Derek. He arrived on time, looked at our bathroom and listened to our requests. However, when we asked him about filling out our paperwork to apply for village permits, his tone changed immediately. He said, point blank, "You don't need a permit for this, it's just a small bathroom." Even though we knew that was a lie, we asked him to clarify. "I don't like to do work with permits. With permits, this job is 3 weeks. Without permits, 6 days. Too much delay, too much hassle." We kept the conversation positive and asked if he'd be willing to still do the work. Hesitantly, he said he would, but that he had no license information or insurance information with him, no license information about his sub-contractors, and that he would have to have his wife get that for us. However, he gave no timeline on getting those details to us, and seemed glad to finish that conversation quickly. When he left our home, we knew we had a bad feeling about our meeting, but would wait to see if he delivered the license/insurance information ... well, that never happened because ... The next morning, we received an email from his wife that he'd fallen on his back on the driveway after returning from our home, had hurt his back enough to visit the hospital, and thus, she recommended we get a refund from Angies List. After being an AL member for 7 years, with multiple home projects completed (all with permits), if that's not a red flag, I don't know what is. If we've learned anything from AL (and from several HGTV home improvement shows, additionally), if a contractor tells you you don't need a permit for a bathroom or kitchen remodel, RUN. Thank them kindly for their time and ask them to leave. The only recourse a homeowner has against shoddy plumbing/electrical/drywall/structural construction work is a government-inspected permit. If you don't get a permit, you have nothing to go back on when the work is completed incorrectly. You're out your money and the contractor has no obligation to you. Since our experience, I see the company has more positive kitchen & bath reviews, including one where the subcontractor tiler spoke no English and needed full translation. I guarantee you none of those jobs was done with permits. Additionally, AL has a warning at the top of their page that Home DM has no Chicago licenses for home repair, plumbing or electrical work. If you care about your home & the $ you're spending on remodeling, don't use Home DM. UPDATED RESPONSE (March 23): If you read the company's response below, at its essence, the argument makes no sense. If I wanted to use building permits, inherently, I understand that the job will not start in a week. Getting all the paperwork together (licenses, drawings) takes time. Then the village approval takes time. Inspections during construction take time. Their direct quote of mine is absurd. I would never expect work to start in a week, much less demand it, nor would I threaten a bad review. Quite the opposite - let them handle themselves how they choose, and I review them afterwards. Further, there are numerous companies on AL that are not licensed & insured. Why? Because homeowners like me have had experiences with them, and chose to write about it - that's the great part about companies not being able to "buy" their way onto the list.

Owner and installer arrived on time. I paid 50% deposit. Owner left, and installer completed work while I was at work. I returned later that afternoon. Owner returned also. Installer had completed the job. Installer did not speak english, therefore all communication had to be done through the owner.

We love our new kitchen ! The work was done beautifully and efficiently , and has been admired by neighbors and friends.

I used them through Angie’s List offer on a daily deal thing and it was $99 for three hours. He certainly seemed very good at what he does. He seemed to know what he was doing. I get the feeling that whatever I needed to be done around my house if it needs to be fixed then I call him and he would know how to do it. There was a bit a problem like he arrived late because his GPRS was wrong and came an hour late. He was obviously very rushed. Even though I purchased the three hour deal he was here only for two hours and me basically I said to go-a-head as he was obviously so rushed to get to the next job even though I didn’t have anything else to be done around the house. From that perspective I think that there were many customers who responded to the Angie’s List deal and sometimes it creates too much work but he was very nice guy. His wife who does all the phone work and everything was very professional as well. Even though it wasn’t his fault he came late.

Derreck's guys Walter & Mike were great and always showed up on time and were respectful of the house and laid down runners to help from tracking dirt through the house. Our house is over a 100 years old with plaster wall so we really appreciated the effort to try and contain the dust from the demolition. The guys were really hard workers. They were never idle which was why they delivered the project in 3 weeks. After each day we would inspect the work and talked to them the next about any questions we had. They always addressed every question. If we left a message at the office. Maggie always promptly called us back. This deal was truly a deal. We are ecstatic with the results and loved working with Derreck and the team. Remodeling is always stressful but with them it was as easy as it gets.

Derek was very attentive and the Home Dm Crew gets an "A+" for an excellent job. We are very happy with the work they did. Derek took the time to talk to us about the whole process before we started. During the project he made sure we were informed about everything. After the project was done Derek gave us a couple of days to look over the bathrooms, to make sure we were satisfied, and we are. It has been 1 month and we have found that everything is to our liking.

They did absolutely what they promised they would do. I am very satisfied. Derek offered lots of ideas, which allowed us to decide which route we were comfortable with. It made my kitchen look magnificent. Thank you Home Dm.

It wasn't a satisfactory experience. He was the sloppiest contractor I've ever used. He left tiles and garbage behind and I had to call him back. He didn't use plastic to close the room off so I had a thin film of fine dust everywhere. He also didn't line up the tile quite right. He used my broom and ruined it. I had to clean the excess grout out of my bathtub. There is still some unfinished work and I don't want him to come back out. I will hire someone else to complete the bathroom.
