The pricing was reasonable. Desmond did an excellent job. The walkway looked good when it was finished. They were very attentive to the bricks and pattern we wanted. It turned out very nice. Desmond was very difficult to get a hold of. He was not originally to get the estimate, but it took months to get him to do the job. When he finally called back he said they had been busy and they finally had time to do our job. I had called and emailed since the spring, had not heard anything and was going to give up. I then heard from him in September. I understand he was busy but he could have called versus ignoring me.

I've used them twice and they are very good. I called them back because they put in my patio the previous year. They had good ideas, I thought they were reasonably priced and worked with you for what you wanted to do. They tried to come up with ideas and work within your budget. They were very accommodating and through. They did a good job and they were clean, they did not leave a mess. He was very professional, brought samples and examples of his past work. He was expensive, but not the most expensive.

We received an estimate and sample brochure. Later actual paver samples were dropped off for us to look at--a good thing because colors in the photographs were quite misleading. The quote was reasonable and the owner, Don Desmond, was quick to answer additional questions about materials, subcontractors and lien-releases and added our specifications to the contract. The workers actually turned up about a week early, there wasn't real good communication about that, but the work was done quickly, cleaned up neatly and looks very nice. There hasn't been enough rain since the installation to test whether the drainage problem is solved, but there is a visible slope away from the foundation. Upon final payment, we received the requested lien release promptly. The whole experience was quite positive, and we will probably use this company for future work.
Description of Work: Company removed an existing concrete walkway and replaced it with brick pavers. The replacement pathway had to link up with two existing concrete paths and turn a right angle corner in front of the house. As the walkway was next to the house, it also needed to slope away from the house to prevent drainage into the basement. The joins to the existing walkways are graceful, an accomplishment, because at one end there was quite a difference in elevation. The bend in the walkway is also very nice-looking.

Called Don to try to get an estimate for my project. He is not interested to meet with me or hear any details probably because he thinks the project is too small (I need to regrade my entire backyard and create a swale) and thinks he can read my mind and knows what I want but he said he will swing by whenever he has time. After a few days, I got a call from his secretary asking for my email and then she sent me an estimate but it is not detailed enough. There are certain things I need to let him know in order to conform with my future plan of the backyard and certainly need to meet with him because it is difficult to explain them over the phone. I would not recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: Regrade my entire backyard to have a 5% grade and create a swale. Lower the soil near the foundation to approximately 6" from the siding.
The patios at our recently purchased home were severely settled. Don Desmond excavated the settled patio, regraded the base and reinstalled the blue stone patio. This was an extensive and difficult project involving both the North and East sides of the house. Don did an excellent job of correcting the grading around the foundation and restoring the patio to its intended beauty. He is quality oriented and reworked areas that did not meet his own high standards. The respect his young crew shows him as he gives direction speaks volumes about his character. He is a pleasure to work with and I will call him again when the need arises.
Description of Work: Regraded severely settled soil next to foundation; removed and reset very large area of blue stone patio including steps and window wells; buried and extended drain pipes; repaired pavers

I got quotes from 5 companies, including plumping and landscaping companies. Desmond was the last one to give me a quote because they postponed twice due to extremely busy summer season, I was not feeling good about this until Don, the owner, showed up and gave me a quote. He is honest, straightforward, and the price is so good. We set up the working day right away. Don showed up on the working day, they dug a trench to place new 4" PVC pipe, then filled with gravel, and put soil and sod back. They even connected one of downspout to drain pipe for free. They cleaned up all debris. They even placed watering hose along the recovered sod, and asked me to water the sod one hour a day, and they got back to collect the hose after ten days. What an excellent job!
Description of Work: The drain pipe, which was supposed to drain away the water pumped from basement, was broken and blocked. The water was flowing back to sump pit in just 20 minutes after pumping out water by sump pump. The drain pipe is located at my back yard, and about 75 feet from the water collection well. I need a new drain pipe.
When Don came out to give us an estimate he was very professional and also very low key while being able to offer ideas for the patio, lighting, etc. There was a little delay in starting the work due to a delay by the village with the permit, but Don kept us informed and as soon as they approved it he and his crew started within a couple days. Don and his crew were very hardworking and each day when they left there was as little a mess as possible. They were there each morning when he said they would be, and one time when they weren't going to be there until afternoon he informed us the day before. He explained in detail everything they did and what we would need to do for future maintenance of the trees and the patio. We are thrilled with the patio and the trees, and have already had compliments by neighbors on the driveway and walkway.
Description of Work: Removed rotted deck and settled concrete patio, installed paver patio with lighting and seat wall, planted tree, planted arbor vitae along back fence. Also removed concrete walk on sides of driveway and concrete front walkway, and installed pavers and lighting on sides of driveway, paver walkway, and over concrete porch.

Our project went extremely well. The owner, Don, came out and looked at our home, then drew up a plan for the new landscape and recommended plants and pavers based on our preferences. He provided pricing options to help us stick to a budget we could live with. He adjusted the plan based on our feedback. Don was personally onsite supervising and leading the entire job, which was complete within two weeks. He brought us samples of lighting and pavers, and gave us the time and advice we needed to make decisions we were happy with. When the job was done, the front of our home was transformed from drab to truly beautiful. The crew left our place spotless. After almost a year, one of the plants Don installed developed spider mites. We called to ask him if it was covered by his warranty, and he came out and replaced it within two weeks. The only watchout in working with this company is that you may need some lead time to get on their schedule. I guess good landscapers are in short supply!
Description of Work: Completely replaced front landscaping; tore out old overgrown bushes, designed and installed new front landscape; planted new flowering trees and bushes; planted new sod; demolished old front porch and walkway and replaced with new paver porch and front walkway; installed landscape lighting system.

It's all high quality. he's very friendly, accommodating, and did great work. The crew finished up quickly and they were all very professional.
Description of Work: They did landscaping work for me.
They worked very well with the structural engineer to correct drainage and flooding problems around my house. They were extremely conscientious about making sure that the project was executed correctly. They came back to make modifications based on the structural engineers new directives. We have had many heavy rains that show that the project was carried out expertly; I haven't had any problems with flooding or water pooling.
Description of Work: They installed dry well basins in the front and back yards, drain tile, and gravel. They also installed a brick paver walkway as well as decorative vegetation.

Don Desmond Landscape installed my landscape lighting on my back deck, side fencing, front and back yards. Not only was he very professional, but his crew (one of which is his son) was as well and have I mentioned how nice they are? They went out of their way to ensure I had the landscape lighting installed prior to my family reunion being hosted at our home. EVERYONE raved about the work! Comments were "This is an oasis", "This looks so professional", "Your house has never looked better", etc etc. Our designer friend even asked for Don's contact information so he could start referring his clients to Desmond Landscape. Don had to remove all of the deck and fence railing in order to hide the wires. You can't even tell he did it. After they installed the lights in the garden, we discussed the possibility of using stronger lights. Don came right out to make the adjustments and everything looks perfect. The neighbors have all commented about how nice the lighting looks from the front of the house and the passersby always comment as well. We couldn't be prouder or happier. We recommend Desmond Landscape for any landscape lighting project. They won't disappoint! :)

Desmond was able to schedule the work quickly and we didn't have to be home. They cleaned the area when they were done, and set up the sprinklers for us. All we had to do was turn the water on for an hour each day. It couldn't have been easier. Desmond could however communicate better with his clients. We didn't find out that they were going to be doing the work until the day that they arrived at our house, and when I called with some followup questions, my phone call was not returned. It is my understanding that he has hired an assistant to help him with this.
Description of Work: Desmond re-graded an area in the back of our house, removed a concrete stoop that was no longer used, transplanted some day lillies from a patch in the yard to the side of the house and placed sod over the two areas where work was performed.

OUTSTANDING! Don Desmond and his crew were extremely professional, punctual, and efficient. Don designed the entire patio and helped me pick colors and shapes that complemented the house perfectly. They broke out an old existing blacktop patio and built a new paver patio and seat wall. They also planted 14 bushes with soaker hoses (included in the price) and spread mulch throughout the backyard. They completed everything in less than a week. My patio never used to drain into the yard, so in a heavy rain, there would be a lake we had to walk through. Now everything drains properly, nothing is sitting next to the foundation of the house, and, additionally, it's a pleasure to sit in the backyard now!
Description of Work: Removed existing blacktop patio, created new paver patio and seat wall, buried 3 existing downspouts (connecting them to an existing buried drain), and planted 14 bushes.

Very professional. He can do the job even if you're away. Good choice of plants.
Description of Work: I used Don last year for initial landscaping in front and back. He did a great job so I had him back to make some additions to the backyard: moved tool shed, reset flagstone, creaed a flagstone path in front, planted around the perimeter of the yard, installed a drip hose and replaced all the mulch. Terrific job.

Don came out as scheduled for an estimate. He was very punctual and quoted a fair price. The work was performed as scheduled with Don on sight personally supervising the job. Shortly after laying the sod it appeared something (animal/insects?) was ripping it up. Don came out to inspect it and provided an insecticide to apply to the sod. As summer progressed, the sod appeared to be thining and not growing in as well as expected. Don was very responsive in coming over to inspect it several times over the summer with the recommendation of continued watering. By the end of October, the sod still had not grown in very thick and due to the amount of rain fall water was still pooling around the patio ajacent to the sod. Don was contacted again and after explaining our concerns he said the sod was probably not thriving due to the amount of shade in the yard and suggested we cut back our trees. If we did this, he offered to replace the sod for $75. Very disappointed as the shade concern was never brought up at the time he was quoting the job.
Description of Work: Dug up old grass in backyard and laid new sod. Installed bushes, shrubs, etc. around a new sun room we recently had built Mulched flower beds. Was supposed to level yard to eliminate rain flooding near brick paver patio

Great company to work with. Don is one of a kind. He first agreed to backfill under our steps, and just put pavers over them to match the patio. After the work began, he soon realized that the step wasn't plumb, and decided to build a stair instead. Did not charge us extra for that. He said that it wouldn't look right the way he originally intended; he was probably right. it impressed us to no end that he went that extra mile. We wanted a design in the patio, and came up with some ideas after the patio was laid. I was expecting that he wouldn't be happy with my design ideas after the pavers were in. Instead, he was very happy to add the design, which turned out even better than both of us thought. His crew was polite, and maintained a relatively clean work environment throughout the job. A week after the patio was in, he dropped off additional bulbs for our lights at no extra charge. We are thoroughly pleased with the work Don did. It turned out even better than we thought it would.
Description of Work: We had our old and cracked concrete patio removed, our sump pump pipe buried, backstep removed and rebuilt, and a new paver patio put in with lights. Plus an old swing set was removed, and a basketball hoop. They also removed the old grill and lights. Installed the new grill too.

From start to finish Don (Desmond) was professional, honest, and reliable. My wife and I purchased our current house over four years ago and have had a progressively bad water problem (had to replace our lower level twice) over the years. We brought in company after company (all industries) seeking a solution to our water issues. Finally, I determined we had a drainage issue. I proceeded to call numerous companies that claimed they handled drainage issues (around the beginning of 2009); the only one to respond was Don. Don came out right away and saw our issue and began discussing possible solutions; again, the first company to discuss solutions as oppose to the problem. Don sent an estimate within days and after not much discussion my wife and I hired Don. Don started and finished within the timeframe he promised. The landscaping was impeccable with compliments from our neighbors that the house never looked so good. This was well and good, but my wife and I had been so distraught over our water issues that looks were nice, but we needed it to be functional and fully functional it is. We have been through a number of hard rains and the drainage system has worked wonderfully. During the first few months after the work was completed I spoke with Don every time it rained and he was again accommodating to my fears and talked me through everything. Don and his efforts (both in workmanship and customer service) gave back my wife and I a little bit of our sanity. I would highly recommend Don and his company.

The project went quickly and smoothly. Don was incredibly patient and helpful in consulting with us on the design and selection of plants and hardscaping materials. Although he had a crew of 6, Don was personally on the job site the whole time, and was often on his hands and knees installing plants and placing pavers for the walkway. This is a true professional. Impressed with the results, many of our neighbors came by to ask for his contact information.

I was having problems with standing water from the north side of the house to the gravel area along the back corner due to poor drainage, as well as erosion in the border garden on the south side of the backyard caused by water pourig from the corner downspout. Earlier this spring, after checking Angie's List, I saw some very positive reviews for how Desmond Landscape had handled some fairly severe drainage problems, so I called them up. Don Desmond responded quickly and came over himself, which surprised me since it was the busy beginning of landscaping season. He agreed to handle the drainage problems, although he admitted he finds creating beautiful landscape more enjoyable. As it turns out, he had a chance to do that as well when he suggested replacing the older cedar plank holding in the gravel, which was also holding back water from draining. He suggested a tumbled brick block (sorry if that's wrong; I couldn't remember exactly what it's called) that complemented the brick in my house. I was doubtful; I thought it might be a bit overwhelming, and be so high that I would trip over it. But I decided to give it a try, and ended up calling up to ask if the same block could be used as a retention wall for a semi-circular foundation garden further along the back of the house. I also asked if he could widen some border gardens by removing sod. I thought the quote was very reasonable, particularly for the drainage work, which was labor-intensive. The installation of the stone-like blocks was more expensive, but that was more due to the cost and number of the blocks than anything else. Installation was a short time after I finally decided on what I wanted, and took place on June 10. A full crew came out - Don, a couple of experienced landscapers, and a couple of high school/college kids for carrying and cleanup, along with a saw for cutting blocks to shape. The preparation for placing of the blocks was very thorough, with the trenches carefully dug out and lined with a fine limestone gravel bed. Be aware that cutting the blocks does generate a lot of stone dust, so cover up anything that can't simply be rinsed off. The sod was removed from the areas that were graded and the trench for the buried downspout, and a nice job was done of replacing it. The sod removed to enlarge the border gardens was done well and left a neat, even surface. The new cedar beams around the raised garden were a vast improvement. Don was careful to make sure his crew knew to remove any dirt clods and clean up. How do I like it? Well, I was right to listen to Don; the stone-like blocks are a great improvement over the cedar plank, and the wall around the garden is handsome and beautifully curved. Best of all, despite getting a single large rain of 3"-4" a couple of weeks later, there was no sign of the pond of undrained water that usually formed at the side of the house, or the deep erosion the unburied downspout used to cause.
Description of Work: Grading along side of house for improved drainage (including removal/replacement of sod); double layer of tumbled brick blocks placed around ~8' by 16' gravel patio area for improved appearance with lowering of 1/3 of area for better drainage; semi-circle (~20 feet) of double-layer of tumbled brick blocks as retaining wall for foundation garden; burial of downspout for reduced erosion (including removal/replacement of sod); ~40'-50' feet long strip of 12" to 16" wide sod removed to enlarge border gardens around edge of yard; cedar beams around a raised garden removed and replaced (two sides, 3 beams deep, about 4' by 6'..
