Desmond Landscape

He was very good. We are waiting on an estimate from him on some drainage issues we have that I?m hoping he will fix.

We called Desmond Landscape based on the company's Angie's list grade. Don Desmond returned our call promptly, came out and surveyed the entire property. He was professional and listened carefully to our tales of woe. The estimate came--it was detailed and clear. We called him with questions about other work we wanted done. He called back at the end of the day and was again professional and patient. He gave us an estimated start date, which was end of April. On the morning of April 16, the work was started, which was fine with us. Don Desmond was also with the crew on that first day at the start of the job. All the work was done in about two days. We have had NOT one drop of water in the basement since this work was done, and the yard looks more attractive, too.

We called this company based on the outstanding remarks found here. My call was returned by the owner who was a bit condescending and unavailable to even come out and give a quote. He was not available for 3 weeks. As we were gathering quotes and information from other companies we wanted to include them in the mix. I called back to ask again if there was any way he could make the time to come and take a look at our project. The call was returned by an assistant who said the date for 3 weeks from now was firm. We will go with a company who can provide initial service within a reasonable amount of time.

I had hired Don to put in an extensive drainage system and to regrade/sod my yard after the construction of an addition on our house. I was so pleased with his work, I decided to have him install our patios for us. He did an artful job on the installation -- camouflaging an ugly existing concrete patio that could not be removed. He also had agreed to repair an existing sidewalk as part of his estimate, but essentially re-installed the entire walk without any additional charge. His crew worked in the cold and snow to complete the project, so that we would not be stuck with a lots of mud come spring. Don is very professional and extremely knowledgeable. I was very pleased with the finished product and would highly recommend his company.

As usual, the final outcome is fantastic-though Don can be hard to get in touch with on occasion-once he gets to the job he brings a huge team and makes it happen in no time. His team is professional and considerate. The final product is just what we hoped for and though Don doesn't like to stray from his vision, due to monetary issues we did need to reduce the landscaping budget involved. He was understanding and did the best he could with the number we gave him. I know that I will continue to use him in the future as we gradually fill in our front yard and I know he looks forward to putting the finishing touches on his work. He takes great pride in his work and responsibility for his workers.

Everything went GREAT! I would highly recommend Don Desmond and his crew. There are contractors who work to make money and there are those who work at what they do because they love what they do. Don Desmond loves what he does and that is reflected in his work. Don Desmond plans carefully, is punctual, responsive, neat and orderly with a great crew. Don solved my drainage problems. Don even brought me out red and green lights for my sidewalk for the holidays. I am so pleased with the way my backyard turned out. The fountain Don suggested is great.

I found Don on Angie's list and for a small fee he came out to do an estimate. (The fee was applied as a credit towards the cost of the project.) He came out and assessed the situation and provided a detailed estimate in a timely manner. I found his solution to the drainage problems to be the most comprehensive and thorough. (And I talked to a lot of people.) He and his crew showed up when he said he would and completed the work quickly. He was extremely accommodating, professional and courteous. During the project, I decided that some additional cosmetic landscaping was needed before the sod was put down. Don and his crew accommodated my request without any additional charge and did a beautiful job. At the end of each work day, his crew was very careful to clean up and did not leave muddy sidewalks or debris. He surpassed my expectations in every way and I plan on hiring him to install two paver patios and a sidewalk. And, I have already referred him to a friend.

There appeared to be a disconnect between what we asked Don to perform for us after our initial consultation, and what he produced on our subsequent visit. Our second meeting with Don is where we had asked to have idea sketches and ballpark costs to review. However, Don didn't have this prepared. Initially, it was raining sporadically the day of the second visit, and he was hesitant about keeping our appointment due to the weather. We found this a little odd, and encouraged him to meet us since we were trying to compare landscapers. When he did arrive, he was ready to discuss ideas, but didn't have a lot of specific information ready to present. He also seemed very knowledgable, but less collaborative in the planning then we'd ultimately need. Overall, we met with 4 different companies for this project, and ended up going with a different landscaper (Bertog) who best met our budget and vision.

The sod survived the summer and the ponding prone area drained across the terrain as planned during the torrential rains we had during the weekend of 9/12/08. There are a few weeds and mushrooms that popped through the sod and mulch, but it's not a major disappointment. For an extra charge he pulled out some unsightly bushes on the side of my house. The whole yard is a lot better looking and the ponding issue was resolved. I am planning to have this landscaper sod and beautify my front yard next summer.

Great- please see pictures. He returned my initial calls promptly, and came out and gave an estimate in a very timely fashion. I highly recommend Desmond Landscaping. The cost was very reasonable. The work was completed in the agreed upon time. They cleaned everything up when they were done. The yard looks great. During the torrential rains several weeks ago, our yard drained like a champ! We are low spot on the block, so will get some water when it rains heavily- but before Desmond redid our yard, the front would have been flooded for at least a day. Now, even after all that rain, it drained quickly.

I waited three weeks for Don Desmond to come to our home. We went over in detail what we wanted in a new patio, walkway, swimming pool removal and regrading and landscaping of our backyard. We paid $175.00 for a plan that he could bid on, but we could also get our own bids on. He came back in a week with little more than a sketch. It did not reflect any of the details we had discussed, such as elevation, grade,landscaping or patterns in the brick. It was totally unprofessional. I wanted a plan that had elevations, grades, and adequate information to put it out to bid. He offered to redo his plan and a week later I got a check in the mail for our payment and a note saying he did not want the business. So I waited five weeks and now I am back to square one.

Excellent work. Don and crew arrived as scheduled. Removed old stone planters and dying evergreen. Built new footings for enlarged planters and rebuilt with brick. Larger planter better accommodates existing boxwood bushes. Repaired downspout connection to drainage. Work was completed in one day. Everything was cleaned up and removed. Don returned the next day to check on concrete around downspout. Wonderful service.

What a GREAT experience start to finish! Don came in and saved the day after we thought our landscaping needs would be way too costly! We'd always wanted more privacy in our backyard, and after new (very loud) neighbors moved in, it really became a priority. The first landscape company's estimate was between $10,000.00-$15,000.00 for 10' or 15' ft Arbs. Unbelievable!! Don was to be the 2nd estimate, so I called him prior to coming out, (he charges a $50 fee which gets deducted from the price of the job) so as not to waste his time or my $50. I explained my shock at the first estimate, what we wanted, and the size of the area we wanted to be screened. I also e-mailed a photo and he was able to determine how many Arbs we needed right away. He was getting a deal on 7' Arbs, which he passed along to us and said 5 would be enough. The price was a fraction of the first estimate! He came out anyways just to see the yard in person, and the very next day our backyard was transformed!!! He created a beautiful new landscaped bed and transplanted our existing hostas and viburnum tying it all together! Our backyard feels much cozier!! It will take a little time for the evergreens to grow together and create more privacy, but it's already such an improvement! I'm thrilled!! Don had a crew of 5 other guys that did most of the hard labor and I was impressed that he was right there the whole time supervising!

His prices were much more competitive than another company I researched, and he was very good about coming out to my home on time. However, I felt like he was patronizing with regard to my requests and he did not give me an estimate of the work I asked him to do. I asked for sod in specific areas, and he dismissed my ideas and insisted on his own. His estimate did not reflect my requests, but rather his own, larger-scale project.

Don Desmond was great to work with. He was very patient with our plans, as they were constantly changing. He was at our home a good half dozen times before the contract was signed and once the work actually started, he was there daily throughout the job. His crew was courteous, hard working, and polite. Minor problems were corrected once the job was completed.

The project went well. Don was very responsive to our requests. He and his crew did a great job and our yard looks very nice.

Don spent an hour with me going over ideas for our front yard. He clearly has a wealth of knowledge and is passionate about what he does. I really liked his ideas but we ultimately went with another landscaper who seemed to fit more easily within our budget and who could do the work sooner. Desmond Landscape had an 8-week wait (versus 2 weeks for the landscaper we chose). Despite our going in another direction, I viewed Don as the "Cadillac" of the landscapers we consulted.

They stated that they were really busy and had a lot of stress and would call back. They never did.

Don showed us a comprehensive binder of the some of the projects he has been involved in. He came up with a beautiful design for our front yard. We did not feel pressured by him at all. We did obtain bids from larger firms, but felt most comfortable with the one-on-one service Don would provide. We also liked the fact that he warranty's his plantings for 2 full years, vs only 1 year with the other companies. His crew was neat and unobtrusive and they arrived to perform the work when he said they would.Don stayed on-site through the duration. He took extra care to make sure that the walls and bricks they installed were level and solid. During the course of the work he met with us several times to make sure we were satisfied with everything. He even went so far as to install soaker hoses around all the new plantings to make watering easier on us. What a great company to do business with!

We had a wonderful experience with Desmond Landscape from start to finish. The consultation was professionally done and thoroughly explained. His level of knowledge on drainage issues was far beyond the other estimate we received. The work was scheduled well in advance and they even were able to start a day early. The first day they trenched the drain pipe, excavated/graded the backyard and installed the wells and piping for the drainage system. Two days later, they finished the project after an electrician ran a line to the first well for installation of the sump pump by finishing grading and installing sod, mulching my flower beds. The fact that Don Desmond the owner oversees every project is very comforting, given that Don provided the estimate. He cares very much not only about his work, but also his staff and the client he works with. You can tell that Don has created a first class business that is top of his industry and his pricing is incredibly competitive. I can't wait to do more landscaping work in the future with Desmond Landscape, there are very few services that actually make me excited about doing more work in the future, but Don was able to do that.

Don was very friendly, patient, and responsive to questions. The patio involved removing a solid concrete stoop and rebuilding it, which was a big job and involved more work than he was anticipating. They did a great job cleaning up the common walkway we share with our neighbors, and the patio and the front walk look fabulous. Don even sent a few of his crew to our house the week after the patio was finished to put new mortar in a big crack on the front step (this was not even part of the job they did; he just offered to do it).

It went great! Don was incredibly patient with us as we went back and forth with the type of paver to use. Once we made up our minds, the work was done very quickly and the layout was better than what we originally envisioned. The crew also did a great job cleaning up. When I got home from work, the pavers looked like they had always been there. Don also took care of our downspout problem freezing up the front sidewalk in the winter. Both downspouts were run underneath the pavers and come up flush with the lawn. I originally was hesitant with this approach, but after several rainstorms and some freezing temperatures, it works great. I wish we would have done it earlier. I highly recommend Desmond Landscape if you need paver work done at a good price with someone that is patient, you can trust, and will go above and beyond to get the job done quickly and completely.

Don was able to provide several addresses that we mapquested and drove by to get an idea of his style. He also was able to find foliage that would be suited to individual areas around our property, both aesthetically and longevity. He and his crew worked very fast and did a great job of leaving the property in good shape even while work was still in progress. He was also very patient with our little details that we wanted fixed.
