I have been using Choice Cut for my basic landscaping needs for 3 years now-they always do a great job. This year I choose to make some major changes to the front of the yard. We added a new wall and plants, trees flowers etc. Paula came out and worked with me to draw out exactly what I wanted. The project started on Monday morning and was completed Tuesday morning. Everything is beautiful and was reasonably priced for everything that they did. I would highly recommend Choice Cut for not only your basic weekly lawn maintenance but also you extensive landscaping projects. Their team is amazing to work with, very thorough and the do what they say they are going to do-which to me is most important. The owners Ray and Cindy are real people and if you are fortunate enough to get to know them you will be better for it. Thank you Ray and Cindy.

They come out once a week. Their lawn maintenance is $27. They have a fuel surcharge and they have a disposal fee. They charge separate charges for cleanup in the spring and in the fall and trimming. Those are all separate charges. I find their trimming rates kind of high. When dealing with the office, they're very accommodating. The crew has a tendency to do some damage in the course of their work. Not every time. But, more than once. About a month ago, I had to call them and complain that their landscapers were busting holes in my screens. The boss was very accommodating about it. He canceled the charge for that particular service by way of trying to compensate me for it. It didn't cost me anything to get the thing repaired because they had just been installed. The construction company came out and fixed it without charging me. That's good. But, over the years, Choice Cut has been frustrating to work with at times. When you start to think about it, it's difficult work because it's tiring and it's out in the hot sun. The people who do it, have a good work ethic. But, they don't always get things done right. I can remember one particular time, the landscape crew came out to do a fall trim and nothing had grown since the last trimming. They try to do trimming twice a year and my house only needs trimming once a year in general. So a guy came out to do the second trimming and there was nothing to cut. He looked around, tried cutting something. There was nothing to be done and so he packed up and left. He didn't tell the boss that there was nothing to do. They billed me $425 for it. So I called them up and told them what had happened and he goes, "Okay. I'm canceling the charge." He is very good about that. The next year, when they came out, it was a different person and the fellow looked at me and he looked at the house and said, "There is nothing to cut here. Okay, I will tell the boss that there is nothing to cut." So they left. I haven't been billed this year for that. It's a little difficult to cope with sometimes. It is really frustrating when you get a bill for excess of $400 and nothing was done. The last time I had a problem, I had almost canceled the service. Because of the responsiveness I got from the call I made to complain, I chose to keep with them for a while.

Paula Vermett was our main contact at Choice Cut Landscaping. She quickly dialed into our modern aesthetic and provided us with design solutions above and beyond what we had imagined. She supervised a team of amazing guys who treated our project with great care. They all worked so hard to get everything perfectly lined up exactly how we wanted. Paula was very present, and reachable throughout the duration of the project, seeing everything through to the very last detail. Her skills as a designer are impressive too, she took a nasty old shrub and turned it into a bonsai work of art. It’s now my favorite thing in our entire backyard! Overall, it was a great experience and we're very happy with the results.

This company provides extremely basic service for the prices they charge. Frankly, I am ashamed I have used them this long and not taken the initiative to fire them and find someone better. I feel like I have wasted a great deal of money over the last 3 years. I am looking into a better provider right now (at last!...LONG overdue), and will switch as soon as I find someone. I have finally had enough of their prices and poor quality work. I hired them when I first moved into this home three years ago. In my previous home with much larger grounds, I had used several landscapers whose work was far superior to what I have received here. The service is irregular and inadequate. My lawn does NOT look like I spend $2800+ a summer on maintenance, I can certainly tell you that. It is highway robbery. I have complained about the weeds, the lack of edging, etc. and the answer is always to pay more for additional services. Trust me, the work that I am already paying for does not look good and not done properly. There is no way I am giving them MORE money. I will find someone else to hire who is more professional and more thorough. I usually let it go -- do not complain. I am a single, working mom and very busy. I thought it would be worthwhile to spend the money to have help with my lawn, but I am now questioning that decision. On at least 2-3 occasions, I was irritated enough to go out of my way call them to complain. Once was in the fall. My children and I took time and care to put up Halloween decorations in the front yard. Given that we never know when the landscapers will show up, we had them up on a day that they came for service. We happened to be driving up to park in front of the house when they were mowing. To my surprise and disgust, we watched as the serviceman ripped our decorations out of the round and THREW them over his shoulder into the bushes. Unbelievable. He broke things and treated our property with disregard. The kids were upset, as was I. After I complained, the company did apologize and provide some service credit. Last week, I called to complain about the state of my yard.... asking why I was being charged for "weed control," when my lawn was a jungle. I was told Jose would come out right away to assess. Well, he did --- but instead of noting the lack of service, long grass, and unacceptable weeds, he simply left an invoice for a proposed $500+ more in services. No way. This is NOT what my lawn should like given what I am paying. Furthermore, a professional, capable landscaping service should take pride in their work. When a property looks like this, they should talk to the owner. They should take care to keep the property looking nice, and giving suggestions for further work as problems are spotted.....NOT wait until the customer is so disgusted they complain. Furthermore, I think it is crazy to charge $200 to weed my tiny flower beds. I have a very small yard and very small beds. I went out and did myself yesterday for free, spending 60-90 minutes. Lesson learned. I have been paying far too much. In sum, you can find better. I know I plan to.

Work was needed as a result of some sewer related excavation, to improve shady areas with old or non-existent planting, and because we installed a new walk and stoop (pavers installed by related company, 3-D Brick Paving). We enjoyed working with Choice Cut Landscaping - they were responsive, did a nice job of spacing and planting, and left us with good instructions (especially since this was during the drought!). When we were not completely in agreement with the selection of plants by one person assigned to project, others stepped in and demonstrated flexibility and a real commitment to customer satisfaction.
Description of Work: Choice cut removed and disposed of existing lawn/turf and unwanted plant materials, designed landscaping solutions for several areas, recommended plants and installed topsoil, Flagstone steppers, ground cover, and many plants such as Boxwood, Viburnum, Hydrangea, Serviceberry tree, and various perennials. Also installed mulch.

The prior reviews are correct, this is a very basic lawn service when they show up. I signed up for weekly lawn service and they showed up about half the time. The invoices were also often inaccurate requiring me to have to call and reconcile. To me, this should be a service I don't have to think about and it wasn't...

Paula came out to my house and give me a lot suggestions for landscaping for the front and backyard. After one week of not hearing fro her, I reached out to her again and she said she needed the plat of survey. I emailed the survey to her and she never called back. I reached out to her again and she said she would have me a quote in a couple of days. After 3 weeks of waiting for a quote and no lack customer service, I gave up on this company. If it is this difficult to get a quote, the service could not be much better.

The estimate was provided very quickly - within 30 minutes of the completed walk through. This gave us some concern that they might be oversimplifying the work. When we received their quote, this was reaffirmed. We'd still keep them in mind for future landscaping work.
Description of Work: Choice Cut was quick to set up an appointment and come out to provide an estimate for regrading work that we were looking to perform in our backyard (a large swale). While they ended up having the cheapest quote of the 3 contractors we spoke with, we felt that their approach was slightly oversimplified. We didn't select them for this reason. We will still keep them in mind for future work.

Like I mentioned above, we were extremely dissappointed with the lack of professionalism from Choice Cut Landscaping. The fact that we never received an estimate was extremely poor in my opinion. I was also frustrated by the fact that when I left a voicemail asking when we could anticipate an estimate being sent over, I never did receive a response.
Description of Work: Paula came out to our home and did a walk-thru of the scope of work we were looking at having done in our front and back yard. That was the last time I saw her and never received an estimate or a phone call.

We worked with Paula from Choice Cut Landscaping. She was pleasant to work with and was generally on time for appointments. Responding to emails or calls took 3-5 days (rather than 1-2) in general. She came up with a nice plan for landscaping the front of our house. Initially she did not provide a drawing of what she would do, but did so when requested. Also the initial proposal had several incorrect prices, but she provided the updated proposal when this was pointed out. It was also mildly disturbing that their responsiveness to emails was delayed, but they were calling for payment just a few days after providing the final bill. The work was all professionally done, but her workers left a pile of large stones at the front of the house, which they inexplicably did not clear away. However, they did so when requested. Since the landscaping was done at the end of the fall, we'll have to wait for the spring to see how everything grows, but they do provide a 1 year guarantee. I also thought the price for installing sod ($1.66 per sq foot) was excessive, but they provided this estimate late, and were already doing the job, so we went along with the price.

The process was great. The designer met with me to scope the area, gather information of my likes and dislikes to create a layout and provide a price breakdown. Once we scheduled the date the crew arrived on time and started removing the old bushes, they planted the new bushes and all the remaining perennials. When the work was completed we had a new yard. I look forward to see the plants bloom next spring. Both the owner and the designer arrived on location to view the progress. Everyone was professional, friendly and wanting to meet the clients expectations.

As noted above, they simply did not do the work that I signed up for, even after several complaints. I was willing to spend money to improve my lawn, but they just didn't do the work.
Description of Work: I recently moved into a house that had a lawn that was in need of some serious care. I hired Choice Cut to perform a variety of services, including fertilizer and core aeration. Unfortunately, despite having signed up for these services and despite my repeated requests, they never did the work that they promised. To make matters worse, they charged me for them too. They did a decent job with the weekly grass cutting, but that was it. Unless you are looking for the bare minimum, I wouldngo elsewhere.

Response from Choice Cut Landscaping Inc
The only service the member has not received to date (that he signed up for) was the core aeration. He signed up for this service after the spring aerations were complete, and we notified him that he would be put on the schedule to have this service on the next round of core aeration services (mid summer). We had in the meantime provided him with an estimate for either sodding or seeding his property as his lawn was in need of some repair– un-level areas, bare spots and areas where grass did not grow but contained only dirt, as he was anxious to get his lawn looking better. Since he was contemplating this project but hadn’t made a decision, we told him that core aeration was good to do prior to seeding. If he was going to re-sod his property, then it wasn’t necessary at this point to do a core aeration service (and be charged for it) when we would be taking out the existing lawn….We were trying not to perform any unnecessary services at a cost to the homeowner. The member did not authorize us to do either one of these services to date, but we did have him on the schedule for the mid summer core aerations that would be completed in the month of July. The services he was charged for included his weekly maintenance services for the month of June and an application of fertilizer which were all done, but to date, he has not paid for. As far as repeated requests, we emailed him his proposals on May 24 and then again on June 6, including posting a notice on his May invoice notifying him of our attempts to provide him with solutions on how to improve his property. We were not contacted by him about these until June 30th…

It went great. They were prompt, got it all done in 4 days and even came on Saturday. There was one issue with reassembling a raised garden box but as soon as it was mentioned they came back within the hour and fixed it. Very good at follow up and returning calls, the sod looks beautiful. Very happy and will likely call them back in the Spring to do more beautification type plantings.
Description of Work: We had our entire back yard dug up and regraded due to drainage issues. Also a downspout was connected underground to the drain tiles. They excavated the front yard too due to being destroyed after a major house renovation/addition. Everything front and back got new sod. They also fixed our torn up brick patio from the house project. It was a really big project, a lot of work.

I called Choice Cut Landscaping and my call was returned promptly. We were able to set up a time within a few days for them to come out and give us an estimate. Ray arrived on time and spent about 20 minutes writing down some notes and giving us some suggestions on what to do with both the front of our yard and other parts of our yard. We had him price out completing the front landscaping, installing draintile (in the front and the back) and also installing a few pavers in the front and back. Within a week, we received a packet in the mail which contained our estimate and also brochures detailing the different types of plants that he recommended, etc. Although I thought that Ray had some nice recommendations, the $7,500 price tag was way over our new homeowner budget.
Description of Work: We have a small area in the front of our house that needed serious attention. It is where our sump pump empties, and there's always lots of pooling water and the plants don't look particularly great. We wanted to meet with a landscaper to get some ideas on how to keep the water away from the house and also make the area more aesthetically pleasing.

I think they were connected to the paving company that we used 2 years ago. We had the guy come out and he talked to us about the work. We were pretty happy with them and we didn’t get any other estimates. They did a very good job and the pathway turned out better than I imagined. They put more into it than I thought and they did it in a very detailed way. I would use them again in future.
Description of Work: Choice Cut Landscaping Inc did a lot of work for us in our backyard. They had to replace a big area of lawn that was infested with some kind of weird grass. They also put in a gravel pathway.
