Frank came out and measured. He promptly gave me quote and followed up with me. I did not use them because I went with a different type of stone that I could get at a lower price.
Description of Work: I had 3D quote a hardcape job for the front and side of my house. They would have to remove old timbers and bricks and lay down flagstone stepping stones and wall.

This was one of the most pleasant experiences I have ever had with a service provider. I called and left a message with answering service to start the process. Within 4 hours Pete called and said he would be in my area the next day for another job and could he stop by to see it. He showed up on time, was extremely pleasant to deal with, and provided me with an email estimate within 2 days. Because it was a small/fill in type job he said they would contact me a few days ahead of time to confirm they were comig. A few weeks later I got an email saying they would be there within 2 days. And they were. An extremely hot and humid day and they got the bulk of the work done in one day, steady hard work, no taking their time with lots of breaks. I was very impressed by the finished product. Looks like it has been there forever and is perfectly done, no sign it was a patch/rehab on something the builder screwed up 15 years ago. I would highly recommend 3D for any needs that include brick or concrete.
Description of Work: Relatively small job by their standards but huge for me. The concrete steps to my back door had settled and detached from the house, to make matters worse the brick sidewalk leading to the steps was deteriorating from the settling. To fix it they had to demolish and remove the existing concrete/paver covered steps, remove the current bricks in the sidewalk, then rebuild/pour new steps and complete the repair work on all the bricks/pavers.

Frank was extremely easy to deal with. He was very helpful in assisting us with refining the design of the project. He came out and met with my concrete contractor, who poured the base for the stairs and stoop, to ensure that the concrete work would provide the proper base for the paver work. His crew was prompt and they worked very quickly. They are highly skilled. We had them inlay contrasting pavers to create a key for a basketball court and they did a perfect job on it. Overall, we are very pleased.

Came when they were supposed to. Brought good information for me. Pete did a nice presentation. Worked everyday Mon-Friday. Took 10 days. Besides patio and stairs, poured a comcrete pad to garage service door. Expect to have them install a new front walkway and maybe side walkway in the spring 2010 after my new driveway goes in....... Dont forget the Angies List discount.......
Description of Work: 3D paving from Des Plaines and Angies List removed existing concrete patio and stairs and replaced with Belgard Ardel (large) manufactured pavers that look like flagstone and are virtually maintenance free. They were on time everyday and the 5 man crew were respectful to my home and landscaping. Afterwards needed only minor adjusting that is scheduled to do in spring. My only regret is that it was done too late in the year for me to enjoy it this year. Two friends in the market for patios came over and liked it so much they are planning to use them as well. Thanks for the recommendation Angies List-----I will use use and recommend both you and 3D Paving again and again. Since I am a Realtor, I always know people needing patios. This product is so beautiful I can't imagine why anyone would want a deck......

I found 3D Brick Paving on Angies List. Pete came to talk to us about the job and was very accomodating with the time so that my husband didn't need to leave work too early. We had some ideas of what we wanted but Pete gave us advice about the layout. He roughly laid out the new patio using a spray marker. I went another day to the showroom in Des Plaines to see examples of materials and brought a few home to see how they went with our brick house. Pete submitted the application for the village permit. We also coordinated with Pete the timing of the removal of the back steps and patio so that the carpenter could build the back steps. Once the steps were complete, 3D started work and worked straight through every day that the weather cooperated. The curves are very precise and the cuts are beautifully done. They cleaned up very well. Several neighbors commented on how nice it looks. The only problems that came up were that we didn't realize that the electricity for our garage ran underground where it did since there were old and, as it turned out, unused wires running down the other side of the yard. So the wires got nicked and we had to have an electrician come and fix it. This wasn't at all 3D's fault. I would advise homeowners to think about where their wires run. The other advice I would have is to ask about how the pavers will fit around the concrete footings of the steps. It turned out that one side of the footing needed to be ground down slightly so that the pavers could run straight in a row. The carpenter ended up doing that and re-setting a few pavers. I should have raised the problem with Pete since he told me afterward he would have had his crew do it.
Description of Work: Removed existing concrete walkways and patio. Installed 1328 square feet of Old Greenwich Cobble pavers using large and rectangle sizes. Installed PVC pipes from downspouts so that the water drains into the lawn.

What a fantastic company. Frank and his crew are as professional as they come. Not only did he work with me on the design, including changes in the process, but the crew executed it cleanly, with precision and speed. Frank was available for contact at all times. Gorgeous, gorgeous work. These guys are the best you can get.
Description of Work: Paved the front walk and stairs. Removed the concrete walkway from the front of the house to the alley and paved that. Removed all grass from the back yard and installed an Interlock pavers patio. Designed the curves and layout of the patio. Removed all resulting debris, old concrete, and sod. Filled in the newly exposed planting areas with dirt.

3-D is great!!! They were competitively priced, explained the process in detail, did the work in a timely manner, did an amazing job transforming our back yard, provided expert advice and it was an overall great experience. Frank came out and gave us a free consultation and got us a quote. We got a number of quotes and decided to go with 3-D as they seemed to give the best combination of price and professionalism, and their references were overwhelming. They suggested color and paver combinations that gave us a beautiful and unique backyard retreat. I can't believe it is the same backyard as we had previously and I wish we would have done it years ago. In a year or two we are going to replace our concrete driveway with pavers and we will definitely be using 3-D again!!! I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: 3-D removed an old concrete patio and pool deck and installed Unilock Stonehenge brick pavers.

In April, 2009, I contacted 3D Brick Paving to provide an estimate for a brick patio in the back of my house in an area that was as the original builder had left it, meaning only a concrete stoop out the back door existed and then just grass. Pete made an appointment and came to the house, where I, more or less, provided him with a 'back of the napkin' drawing of my vision of the patio. Pete provided valuable insight as to possibilities but let me drive the expansion of my vision. I spent some time completing refinements on the work I wanted done, while Pete provided an estimate of each refinement. The proposal from which the work was completed was finalized on 5/30/09. Work was actually started on 7/8/09. This was a slightly longer delay in the start date than I had anticipated, but since I had indicated to Pete that I had a 7/25/09 party planned, the start date worked well. On the first day of work, the crew from 3D arrived as scheduled. An hour or two was spent reviewing the design in detail and laying it out in the grass. This is a very important step in that they cannot build what you envision unless you can communicate that vision properly to them. Javier, the work crew foreman, was very attentive, and helped to make sure everything was measured out precisely. Work was complete over the span of 8 work days ending 7/17/09. The crew arrived each day as scheduled. Javier and I always spent a few minutes at the beginning of the day reviewing the previous day?s work along with next steps. This, I found to be exceptionally important in that overnight I would walk through the completed work and was prepared with questions for Javier that next morning. He was always mindful of my thoughts and making necessary changes was, as Javier would put it, ?no problem?. The crew usually consisted of Javier and 3-4 others. They arrived on time, worked until the middle-to-late afternoon and always cleaned up. I was impressed with their work habits. A cooler full of Gator-Aid and water, along with an ample supply of Power Bars, was available daily for the crew. The electrical wiring within the sitting walls was completed by the 3D crew. I decided to go with regular line voltage lights rather then low-voltage. The actually hook-up to house electrical was complete by a subcontractor of 3D. His work was completed within my expectations. Pete gave me the option of acquiring the building permits or having him do the management of this. I choose to have Pete manage it, preferring the more turn-key approach. The caps for the columns were installed a number of weeks after the initial work was completed. They were delayed in that they needed to be custom ordered. That delay was of no consequence. A few weeks after the caps were installed, Pete scheduled a follow-up visit to insure all was well. The Belgard rep, Mike, also visited. Both found that I was a customer in which my vision was completed exactly as I had imagined. I highly recommend 3D Brick Paving. You will not be disappointed.

3D spent extra time with us prior to completing the work diagnosing the problem. The previous contractor quoted a lower price, however, we were not convinced their proposal would correct the problem. Ultimately, we went with 3D who completed the work as promised and in a timely manner. The pitch was corrected and water no longer pools against the house. We would use 3D for future projects and recommend them highly.
Description of Work: 3D completed a repair of our rear brussel block patio. The previous contractor had not allowed for enough pitch which was causing water to puddle against the house. 3D increased the pitch and re-laid the brussel block patio.

It was a mixed bag. He was supposed to come out on a Monday and he called the house to say he was running late and he said if he didn?t hear from me, he wouldn?t come. I was out all day and I just assumed he would come. He came the second day and he told me he would email me an estimate the next morning. Instead, he did a paper estimate and he put it in the mailbox two days later. He followed through but it wasn?t exactly the way I wanted. The price seemed high but I didn't get an estimate from anyone else so I'm not sure.

Part of the plan was for 3D to install low voltage lighting in the back underneath the seatwall. I hired an electrician to install other lighting that needed a permit and needed to be hardwired. 3D ended up asking the electrician to install the seatwall lighting that 3D purchased for the project. I thought since 3D had to install wiring/pipes in order to install lights in the seat wall anyway it would be better for them to do the low voltage lighting as well. If I had to do it again I would have had the electrician purchase the transformer/lights and install everything that had to do with electrical. The reason I say this is because the electrician installed and purchased a transformer for the path lights in the front of the house and the transformer they purchased is much smaller and the timer is easier to use. So, in other words 3D is great at doing what they do, but they are not electricians. I gave them a 'B' for punctuality b/c the were late on the first day b/c they were finishing up another job and they didn't break down the patio that needed to be removed prior to the plumber showing up to do the gas line on the 2nd day. Luckily I had other work for the plumber to do. But overall the workers were very nice - Moises (foreman on the job) was very responsive to all my questions and requests. I would still hire 3D again for the job b/c they did a very nice job and I also felt they were very honest.
Description of Work: Brick pavers replaced a concrete driveway, expand driveway for a 3rd car, front porch and walk, walkway on the side of the house to the back patio, enlarged back patio and placed a seat wall. They also removed part of another patio we did not use and placed dirt for a vegetable garden. Frank was great - very responsive, always returned phone calls and emails right away. I got several quotes and that helped b/c Frank's quote was very vague and the other quotes I got were more detailed giving me a better idea of how much different parts of the job cost. That is part of the reason I gave them a 'B' for price b/c I really didn't know how much certain parts of the job cost and how changes I made affected the price of the job - whether it was an increase or decrease. When I initially got the quote I decided not to do the job b/c it was so costly, but Frank contacted me again and gave me 10% off to get me to do the job and it worked. The other company estimated 4 to 6 weeks to complete the job. 3D's guys got it done in pretty much exactly 2 weeks (10 working days). It was great! They also cleaned up after themselves. They did exactly what was planned. We have a beautiful patio, driveway and front patio.

Excellent. Frank recommended replacing a glass block window that would allow him to bring the patio right up to the foundation and we used his recommended masonry contractor for the job. He gave us a fair quote with options to add a sitting wall. The staff that did the actual work was amazing. My husband and I have never seen guys work so hard with such precision. I came home from work after the 2nd day to find our beautiful new patio. They even cleaned up the yard and filled in the dirt between the grass and the new patio. All we had to do was spread some grass seed.

Excellent results. They worked hard and carefully and cleaned up after the job. They did what they said they would do. Their cost estimate was fair. We changed a few things (changed the paver type and added one section of brick) from the original estimate so the end cost was naturally higher than the estimate. I asked for but did not receive a quote for the changes during the process. However, the end result was a fair price. It took some time (months) to schedule the work for a variety of reasons (including asphalt subcontractor scheduling issues and weather so those were not under their control). Before work started I indicated on the ground with marker paint where we wanted the edges of the new drive to go. After all of the drive preparation (which pretty much followed the lines I had indicated) there was then some confusion and some of the brick edges were installed in a narrower drive than I had marked. However, this was then adjusted once the issue was pointed out. I believe this could have been avoided if there had been one supervisor on site for the entire job, it seemed to vary from day to day. All of the crews were nice and worked very hard. Once the job was started it had full attention until it was completed so it was efficient. The asphalt company was scheduled to follow directly so we were without the use of the driveway for as short a time as was possible. They did a great job of determining grade, matching driveway to exisitng walks etc. I recommend the company and would use them again.
Description of Work: Remove old asphalt drive, dig out concrete under old drive (surprise to all!), prepare new drive base, install brick pavers at base and on edges of drive, prepare for asphalt company. Asphalt was sub-contracted.

We sent bids to several contractors, but were very impressed with 3D. Pete came out twice to carefully measure and scope out the yard, and provide an estimate. On the second visit, Mike (the owner) also came out and they did the final measurements. They even used a laser system to get the precise pitch and angles required for the patio installation. Mike and Pete gave us some interesting and innovative ideas on the layout and construction of the patio, adding some curved sections to provide a flowing design pattern. They both patiently and fully explained what was to be done, and why. Then, the crew came out and really got to work. In just 4 days, they demolished and removed the sidewalks, moved a large quantity of hard clay, dug out and put in the drainage system, laid down and compacted a thick gravel base, and then laid down the sand and installed the pavers. We selected Unilock Hollandstone Rustic Red pavers with a herringbone pattern. All I can say, is; when the job was done, all the neighbors were ohhing and ahhing, and asking "Who did that beautiful patio?" Don't get me wrong; this was a relatively modest job (maybe 600 sq ft. max). But, 3D made the most of our limited space, and it has totally transformed our back yard. To say we are satisfied is an understatement. And the drainage? Prior to 3Ds installation, heavy rains would quickly saturate our small back yard, and water would literally gush down the backyard basement stairs. No more. We've had several substantial rains and the system performed very well. If 3D's drainage system gets overwhelmed, you better start building an Ark! Well done, guys!
Description of Work: We wanted a brick patio installed, and also had some significant drainage problems. Job entailed demolition/removal of existing sidewalks, removal/grading of soil, installation of a drain system, and installation of brick paver patio.

They were very good. They gave me an estimate and suggested a few things. I called them back a few weeks later and they completed the work the following week. The price was close enough to what we were going to have to pay to do it ourselves. They were very responsive and called us back when they said they would. They showed up on time. They also had a showroom which we visited to see the brick.

They were fairly expensive. I asked them how big a job it was for them on a scale of 1-10. They said it was 7, so it was pretty big. We were comfortable with the fellow we talked with, and we were comfortable with their experience on the job. We went and looked at a few homes and looked at what they had done. We were also comfortable that they would do a good installation and would listen to us during the process, which has turned out to be true. They showed up on time to do the work. The quality of their work was very good. They work according to my instructions. As with most good companies, I need to be there when they do the work because the people who do the estimate, those who process the bill, and those who actually do the work are different. When I am there, the work goes exactly the way I want because I can instruct them. They came back and re sanded the slope in the front yard where the sand was washing away.
Description of Work: We went in to a new house, so we needed complete paving services. They put in some front walkways, which also then extended around the house. Then, they put in paving in the back that goes from the terrace to the garage. They even put some stones that were left over behind the trees in the alley.

Pete, Moises and the 3D crew ROCK!!! From the first day we met Pete, I could tell he was a man of his word. I felt comfortable with the suggestions that he made and felt that he understood what we wanted and the budget that we wanted to stick to. Pete listened to my husband and I talk about our summer plans and was determined to help us schedule this project so we would get the most use of our patio. The crew worked hard everyday, was careful to preserve our lawn and cleaned up after themselves each night before they left the job site. Their attention to detail is amazing; even something as simple as the sewer cover looks impressive. Moises was happy to answer any question I had during the entire project. After the project was completed, Pete made sure to check back with us to make sure we were happy with the work. Since this project was completed we have spent almost all our free time out on the patio. We plan to have 3D come back next summer and do some additional work.
Description of Work: We had two existing cement sidewalks removed. We then had a paver patio and two paver walkways installed.

Did receive a nice discount by doing job in shoulder/fall season. Crew did use water & hose without talking to us first, and I would have preferred a discussion on which hose to use. Later found out from city inspector that inspector did not clear project due to front step height. Inspector required that both steps had to be same height. Ultimately city fined contractor and took them to court, and contractor later sent crew to redo step. The two complaints about this issue is that I never heard anything about this from the contractor, and the crew arrived on a day when I had a separate contractor performing work in the same area of the house. I would have liked to be kept informed of these issues. Hearing the story from the city inspector (while onsite for a different job) rather than the contractor is not ideal.
Description of Work: Brick paver patio and two sets of porch steps installed in front of house.

Pete came out within a week of our request for an estimate. Provided the most professional set of brochures for any contractor we saw. Made economical suggestions for our space and provided a proposal via e-mail within 48 hours. Once the bid was accepted, we set a date. The actual start date was delayed by rain, but that was explained to us from the beginning as a possibility and not a surprise when it happened. The other clients ahead of us were delayed. Mario helped us choose a great paver color the first day 3D was on-site, and there was a LOT to choose from. The crew was respectful of the neighbors that share/use the alley (a big relief for us) and cleaned up all the mess when the job was complete. It's a really loud and dusty kind of job, but they were very efficient with their time. The new patio looks fantastic.
Description of Work: Removal, excavation and hauling of existing concrete and material. Install sub-base and base for proper drainage. Laying and cutting of brick pavers and modular stone for new patio, edge border and two step areas for deck and gangway.
