Description of Work: Bob built a beautiful deck that's character matched the rest of my house. He subtly pitched it away from my house so no water would run back to it. This was at my last house. At my current house he has come over to evaluate various concerns of mine and make recommendations. He has a wealth of knowledge, a fantastic eye, and is very ethical and professional.

+ -1 moreWE WERE PUT OFF FOR ALMOST A MONTH. MY WIFE KEPT CALLING HIM AND HE WOULD SAY HE WOULD BE THERE NEXT WEEK, THEN THE NEXT WEEK AND SO ON. FINALLY HE SHOWED UP TO DO THE WORK. HE DID A GOOD JOB. THERE ARE SOME ISSUES WITH THE OVERALL END PRODUCT, BUT NOTHING EXTREME. ONCE IT IS PAINTED, AND THE IMPERFECTIONS HE LEFT IN THE DRYWALL AND FRAME ARE CORRECTED, IT WILL LOOK AND WORK GREAT. HE BROUGHT ANOTHER PERSON W/ HIM, WHICH HE CHARGED $85 PER HOUR AS WELL. HE CHARGED FOR TRAVEL TIME AND MARKED UP MATERIALS 15%. THE BOTTOM LINE INVOICE WAS FOR $1,351. WE WERE EXPECTING $700-$800. MY WIFE WROTE A CHECK FOR THE FULL AMOUNT. WHEN I CONFRONTED HIM ABOUT CHARGING FOR ANOTHER PERSON AT $85 AN HOUR, HE REPLIED, "I WOULD STILL BE THERE THIS MORNING IF I DID NOT BRING HIM." WE NEVER AGREED TO PAY 2 PEOPLE @ $85 HOUR, NOR PAY FOR TRAVELING EXPENSES OR 15% MATERIAL MARKUP. I STOPPED PAYMENT ON THE CHECK AND WE AGREED ON $1,000, WHICH IS STILL WAY TOO HIGH.
Description of Work: A DOOR TO THE GARAGE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DOOR THAT WAS IN PLACE WAS POORLY CONSTRUCTED AND WOULD NO LONGER STAY CLOSED WITHOUT LOCKING THE DEADBOLT. HE LOOKED AT THE WORK PREVIOUSLY DONE (BEFORE WE PURCHASED THE HOUSE), AND MADE A RECOMMENDATION TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FRAME AND INSTALL A FIRE RESISTANT DOOR. HE ESTIMATED THIS WOULD TAKE APPROXIMATELY 5 HOURS @ $85 PER HOUR AND THE MATERIALS WOULD COST BETWEEN $300 - $400.

+ -1 moreBob arrived on time. He was pleasant, forthright and informative about the work that needed to be done. Doing the work, he was quick, efficient and most importantly, did the job right. I would hire him again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Bob fixed 2 doors and a chair in our 50 year old ranch.

+ 0 moreFIRST, HE WAS VERY HELPFUL IN LOOKING AT THE PROJECT AND HELPING WITH THE DESIGN OF HOW TO PUT IN DOORS IN A SPACE WHERE THERE WAS NO NORMAL WAY TO HANG THEM. ONCE THE DESIGN WAS SET, HE ADVISED ON THE MATERIALS AND ORDERED THEM FROM THE LUMBER COMPANY. HE HAD DONE SIMILAR WORK BEFORE AND KNEW ALL ABOUT SPECIAL HARDWARE THAT HE ORDERED TO HANG THE POCKET DOORS. HE FINALLY EXECUTED THE JOB, TAKING ABOUT 6-7 DAYS TO COMPLETE IT. HE WAS VERY METICULOUS IN ALL ASPECTS OR THE JOB. THE FINISHED PRODUCT INTEGRATED WITH THE REST OF THE ROOM AND THE DOORS MOVE SO SMOOTHLY AND EFFORTLESSLY THAT THE MECHANISM IS A THING OF BEAUTY. HE RETURNED PHONE CALLS PROMPTLY AND CAME WHEN PROMISED. HIS INVOICE WAS BASED STRICTLY ON TIME AND MATERIALS. AFTER THE DOORS GOT PAINTED AND SWELLED A BIT, HE CAME BACK AND CHANGED THE ADJUSTMENT SO THAT THEY SWUNG FREELY AGAIN (AT NO EXTRA CHARGE).
Description of Work: HE PUT IN POCKET DOORS IN A SPACE THAT HAD NO POCKET. THIS INVOLVED BREAKING THROUGH THE CEILING AND HANGING A TRACK, HANGING THE DOORS, AND FINALLY FRAMING IN AND HANGING A NEW WALL TO FORM THE POCKET TO HIDE THE DOORS. HE ALSO HUNG A NEW CLOSET DOOR.
