I was in kind of a time crunch, so John rearranged his schedule so that he could look at the piano the next evening. He had to travel quite a distance, so that added to the cost of the evaluation somewhat. We agreed ahead of time that he would give me a very blunt and honest opinion about the condition and worth of the piano. I was there when he examined the piano. He was very friendly, but professional. The owners were present at the time, and he was very sensitive to their feelings. He played a few tunes in the course of his testing, so we even had some entertainment. John was very upfront with the piano's owners, explaining that since I was paying him for his services, he and I would go outside and talk about the piano afterwards, which we did. He talked to me about the many pros and few cons of the piano, and then commented that he thought it was a very good value at the price the owners were asking. He even gave me some great ideas for negotiating the price. I felt well-supported throughout this piano-buying venture, and would highly recommend Mr. Otto's services to anyone considering buying a piano. He told me he's been in this business for 30 years. He's a registered piano technician, and repairs pianos as well as tuning them.
Description of Work: I was interested in buying a particular piano, and called John Otto to see if he could look at the piano beforehand to give me an idea of whether or not it was in good shape. He did an outstanding job. He thoroughly checked out the piano, inside and out, explaining what he was doing at each step. Afterwards, he gave me an idea of the piano's worth. He also pointed out a few small problems that I would most likely want to have corrected, but that didn't affect the overall value of the instrument. I was very pleased with his thorough examination of the piano, as well as his attention to detail.
