+ -1 moreOnly charged $20 to remove my husband's hard drive so we could dispose of it, and only $50 to transfer all of my precious data off my hard drive and then remove it. Fantastic service, really nice guy who always answers the phone! Plus, of course, really good at what he does.
Description of Work: Examined mine and my husband's computer for no charge! Determined my husband needed a new hard drive and that my motherboard was bad.

Description of Work: I brought my computer in because of screen contrast issues. Kevin corrected the problem at a very reasonable cost and also cleaned the files so the computer is much faster. I then brought in my other computer as I was having issues with the video and wanted a new hard drive installed. Again Kevin did a great job at a reasonable cost.

+ -1 moreTurned on my desk top last weekend. The computer would not boot. The start button flashed orange and beeped. Did the usual unplugged and reconnected everything. Still got the same result. Checked out Angie's List and came across K S Computers. The reviews were favorable. I liked the fact you could drop off your machine at the convenient down town Crystal Lake store. Around noon, on Monday, Dec. 16, I gave them a call and explained the problem. Asked if i could drop off the computer. Was told to come in. Dropped it off about an hour or so later. Kevin told me he would call either later that afternoon or the next day. Since I had numerous errands to run the next day, I gave them a call the next morning. He had diagnosed and explained the problem but wanted to run other tests to make sure there were no other issues. I went about my errands and returned home around 4:45 pm. Had a message my computer was ready for pickup. It said the price and I could pick it up, they would be open till 6:00 pm. Picked it up and set it up. It works perfectly. Listening to music and writing this review on it, right now, If you are looking for prompt, reliable service, at a reasonable price checkout K S Computers.
Description of Work: Diagnosed and fixed Jad memory issue and tested the computer.

+ -1 moreHe was going to fix it from his computer but couldn't something about me not knowing the password so I had to bring the computer in he would have picked it up but I had to go to Crystal Lake so I dropped it off picked it up next morning.
Description of Work: Cleaned virus updated windows I really don't know anything about computers so I can't tell you everything I do know he was very patience with me.

He had to spend some extra time on it, but stood by his estimate. His repair shop was conveniently located and had flexible hours. I will look to Kevin ithe future should I need computer repair.

+ -1 moreWhen my computer would not boot, I first brought it to a national computer service. (Think 'G**k S***d). They had it for a week and all I got when I inquired was that they were running diagnostics. I finally picked it up in the morning and brought to KS after finding positive reviews on Angies list. It was fixed in four hours. Everything was explained to me about the repair including them having to fix some bent pins on the motherboard. The computer now works fine
Description of Work: Installed Windows 7 on a new hard drive, refit CPU fan that had come loose. Straightened pins that were bent form previous bunguled repair and checked two hard drives for problems

Description of Work: PC not working -stop/error blue screens in Windows XP. Phoned KS computers and was told they do free diagnostic testing then give a repair estimate before any work is done. Dropped off unit in person. Got phone call less than 48 hours later. Bad memory. Given a choice of used memory for not quite $100 w/labor or about $200 for new memory w/labor. After discussing age of computer (6 1/2 yrs.) and type of use I went with the used option. Within 2 1/2 hrs. I was able to pick up the unit. They checked the memory which was OK and solved a user account issue with XP. Explained to me how to move files from old account to new one.

+ -1 moreI had used this service once before, and was pleased with their work. This time my computer was running extremely slow, to the point of being almost usless. I took the computer into their shop and explained the symptoms, and left the computer with them. They called the following day saying repairs on the computer were completed, and I could pick it up that afternoon. After a final adjustment the next day the computer worked perfectly. I am very satisfied with their work and I would not hesitate to use them again.

+ -1 moreSee above. Overall a good experience. Sometimes a little slow communicating with me but overall I was very satisfied and have already recommended them to friends.
Description of Work: My computer stopped working so I took it to them. They thought it might be the power supply and said at that time if it is, it will probably need a new mother board to as on most machines when the power supply goes so does the mother board. They suggested I might just buy a new tower for about the same cost but get an updated and more powerful unit but I could not afford that at this time. So they said it would be $70.00 to replace and install new power supply. That did not solve it so they now said it would be $229.43 total to also replace the motherboard. That also did not fix it so they said it would be about another $100 for a new processor though they said it would not be worth it and I should buy a new tower which I did for $349.00 and took it to them and they transferred all my files in 1 hour and it was ready. My total charges were $60.00 to transfer the data from the broken tower to the new one which is equal to 1 hour service time. As the tower would not power up, they had to go one step at a time to see what was all wrong. The total repair took about a week. They were never pushy and never talked down to me as I know nothing about computers. When I decided to buy a new one they told me call them from any store if I had any questions which I did and they told me what I was looking at was a good deal.

+ -1 moreIt went smoothly and quickly. He called promptly about everything and the work was done faster than I expected, after getting estimates from other repair services. It was much cheaper and much faster and it works! Absolutely satisfied.
Description of Work: My laptop had a drink spilled on the keyboard. He tried to just clean the keyboard, but a new one was needed. He told me how much new keyboard was ($50), and his charges were $60. I had checked with two other companies and it would have been a minimum of $130 plus shipping out that could take 6-8 weeks. Called the manufacturer, and they said flat out $450 plus shipping to Texas. KS Computers did it in a few days for $113. I give them an "A" rating. It's working just fine.
