Building Energy Experts Insulation and Supply

We just had our attic and crawl space insulated and a moisture barrier put in. The crew showed up on time and every one of them was polite and professional. We could tell they had a lot of experience working together because they were super organized. While the boss, Dave, walked us through the process in detail, making sure we understood the job, behind him the crew set up quickly and efficiently, treating our home with respect. They were finished right on time, too, and left our house looking as if they had never been there. Before they left, Dave showed us their work and explained how these improvements would make our home more energy efficient. Every crew member made sure to say goodbye to us. They were amazing people! We highly recommend Building Energy Experts.

They did my attic and basement crawl space with insulation last 2014 and now I got mold issues. I had a company come to investigate because I noticed water damaged on my wall. What they found was that Building energy "experts" put insulation in the attic but did not remove the existing insulation on the rafters of the attic and no baffles sealing the attic with no air to breathe and so condensation happened. Now will costs me thousands to fix what they did.

It went perfectly. from initial visit for estimate to clean up after work completed. On day of job they arrived early, set up, explained procedures and went to work, It was a 130+yr old house, flat roof with attic height varied from 9in to 29in, but they got to every corner, sealed pipes, air leaks, capped recently installed can lights and packed the attic with insulation, insulated hatch to attic. Amazingly efficient. The walls with voids were insulated. Clean up was perfect. Very knowledgeable, not afraid to discuss with owner and thought on their feet. Can't say enough, Actually, it was an enjoyable experience.

Great job. Anthony is the most knowledgeable person ive spoken to during our renovation. I still call him for questions regarding keeping my home free from unwanted moisture and so much more regarding new ways to increase energy efficiencies in my home. He is top top notch in my book. I will always ask him first!

Anthony inspected my TownHome and recommended to add more insulation in attic and also on top of garage ceiling along with air seal in attic. Work done professionally and was very responsive in emails. Highly recommend Anthony and his team to anybody in need of insulation.

Went well. Showed up to look at the job and provide estimate which was emailed the following day. Discussed my options and provided me a couple different quotes based on those options. Work was scheduled - 2 weeks out - Jason W showed up and explained the process and provided estimate of time and showed me work along the way, which i appreciated. They repaired the drywall and cleaned up - very professional.

It went very well. The communication from the owner was great and I felt like I knew exactly what was going to happen. All of the work was completed in one day. I can definitely notice a difference on the second floor. The temperature on the second floor was always 3 to 4 degrees cooler or warmer depending on the season. Now the temperature has stabilized. The basement is warmer too. My only complaint and why I gave a B on Professionalism is because we had rented a dumpster in order to demo the basement. The workers used the dumpster to dispose of their waste for our project. If asked I would have let them use it anyway but it would have been nice for them to ask permission since I paid $400 for it. Overall, we are satisfied and I would recommend them.

It went really well. The technicians were extremely professional.

For the estimate and to perform the work they arrived on time. They were very friendly and professional. They explained everything thoroughly. When doing the work laid tarps everywhere to keep the area clean. Clean up inside when they were completed. My only reason for giving them good not excellent is because they did not throw their waste in the dumpster. They bagged everything piled it neatly on the side of my house. It was a total of 3 large contractor garbage bags. Then when leaving said it was the owners responsibility to throw it out. Besides the issue with the trash I would recommend to my neighbors and friends.

The process went well and we noticed a significant difference in the temperature on our second level for both the summer and winter.

After being contacted by the representative, I checked my spam folder, the estimate was received on Oct 5 & a 2nd time on Oct 11. The estimate was sent again and arrived in my inbox on Oct 21. There seemed to be some miscommunication as I did not receive the 1st voice mail message sent explaining the system putting it in the spam box. I plan to continue with the process of reviewing the estimate and deciding on the work. My apologies to Anthony and this company for previous comments.

Building Energy Experts responded immediately to my request on Angie's List. They were professional and prompt, readily answered questions and explained processes and procedures. I received a rebate for Com Ed and Angie's LIst per their offer, and was pleased with both the price and the outcome. I would highly recommend Building Energy Experts!

I had an awful experience with this company. Anthony came to my house for a $100 energy evaluation and estimate. When I received the estimate, I realized that Anthony completely overlooked an entire corner attic section of the house with an obvious access panel in one of the bedrooms. He came back at my request and added the section to the estimate. I decided to go with his company because he seemed honest and a nice guy. Well, halfway through the project, his guys came to me to tell me that they shouldn't perform about 40% of the work because there was probably old knob and tube wiring in that section of the attic. I had pointed out the active wiring to Anthony during his second visit, and specifically how it ran up into the top of the attic, and it apparently didn't occur to him that this would be a safety issue. Anthony wasn't even present while the other workers were here. He told me over the phone mid-project that he would only credit me 17% of the cost for the attic insulation, though by my account about 40% of the area in the price quote was not going to be completed. And this was his own fault; his workers readily discovered the problem without opening any walls. I asked Anthony to come to the house to measure the area they didn't insulate so we could arrive at a fair credit, he refused. Furthermore, when I presented my Angies List coupon for 10% off, they complained that I should have presented it at the time of the estimate--though the coupon mentions no such stipulation. The only reason I can think of that someone would require such a coupon to be presented before an estimate is so that the merchant can fraudulently inflate the price to negate the value of the coupon. Last, beware that Anthony apparently sends out a contract with his proposals that contains a binding arbitration clause. This is basically a way to sign away your legal rights to sue if there is a problem such as this. I didn't sign it, and you shouldn't either. The fact that he even tries to get people to sign this makes me think that he's not willing to stand behind his work. I should have taken this red flag more seriously, and you should too.

I called them again this year because I noticed something and they came back. They are absolutely professional. The thing that I noticed that they didn't put, they went and looked and fixed it. I would highly recommend them. They came back at no cost. It was worth it because it is warmer and the insulation was worth it. They were very professional and very, very responsive.

Amazing job done by Building Energy Experts, Very professional, immediately introduced themselves before entering the house. Me being a woman at home alone means those details are very important. They took off their shoes on entering and they went to work efficiently installing the canisters with Retrofit lighting. What a huge difference this made in my home! Cave-like rooms became vibrantly filled with washes of bright light? They also did a little extra work for me without charging more. They were very clean, very thorough did excellent work and I would recommend this team. I remember the younger worker's name, Jason and I'm sorry I forgot the first name Of the more experienced person. We did not end up using the energy experts, my house was built in the 70s using electric baseboard heat and low voltage wiring, when we rewired and installed a new furnace/ac/ductwork we were left with numerous small holes to be patched. In order to make the house more energy efficient they recommended we insulate around the outlets before patching, they also quoted to remove ceiling vents and finish (albeit rough finish) the whole quote came in at around $4000. A lot higher then we anticipated so we did not proceed with the job. I basically paid $99 for a quote. They could not provide me with the attic insulation as some of the duct work in the attic had detached from the vent and thus they would be blowing insulation straight into the main house.

Did 'blower door' test, and got a 'leakage' estimate, and overview of our home's insulation performance in various areas, which was helpful. Company provided a follow up proposal mostly focused on adding additional attic insulation. Got quotes from a couple of other companies, and each has a different approach. This company's approach appeared to involve an above-market price for the insulation & sealing work, offset by potential rebates from electric / gas companies based on improvement in the home's insulation / leakage rate. I emailed several follow-up questions -- some were answered, some not. The main one that was not answered was who bore the risk if the actual improvement was less than planned, resulting in lower rebates (and thus a higher all-in price). Since that question was never answered, we decided not to hire this company.

I used Building Energy Experts to add insulation and provide air sealing for my attic which was in desperate need. Anthony and team arrived promptly in the morning and took great care to setup and ensure that they kept everything in my house in the exact condition that I had left it. They were very courteous throughout the process and most importantly did a GREAT JOB. The temperature in my house is now within one degree in all rooms. That was unheard of before the insulation/air sealing. Additionally, I quoted many other providers and they came in at the best price especially considering the quality and amount of work they do. The Nicor rebates that they instantly apply was a huge plus as well. And finally, they took the time to show me an electrical issue they noted in my attic that could have been a fire hazard. They did not need to do this as they aren?t electricians, but they did anyways and I was able to get it fixed ? truly appreciated that. I will definitely be utilizing them when I look to further insulate my basement. I highly recommend Building Energy Experts!

The whole process went great! They were very timely and professional. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

The work was done as specified, and the results have proved satisfactory. There were some difficulties with the project, not all of which were entirely the fault of the provider. During the whole-house pressure testing, the furnace went out and did not come back on. While this was due to a faulty limit-switch on the burner, I was taken by surprise, not having realized that the furnace area should be isolated, if possible, from backdraft during the test. Future customers might be thus informed. Either during the inspection or the insulation procedure, air-conditioning tubing was crushed in an attic space. I was not informed of this at the time, but learned of it during the springtime servicing of the A/C air-handler. BEE did eventually provide a fix, but only by taping up, rather than replacing, the damaged sections.

Their employees were friendly and knowledgeable. The work was performed in a timely manner and pricing was very reasonable. Here's the bonus...our gas and electric bills are now the lowest they have been in 11 years. Building Energy Experts are true professionals and craftsmen at what they do.

Everything that was promised was done on time with no additional cost.

Anthony and his crew showed up at our house on time and displayed utmost professionalism throughout the process. He walked through the work they were planning on doing (nothing new, based on the aforementioned quote of work), and was patient in discussing logistics with me (such as possible dangerous elements used in insulation, were to keep our pets during install, where they will penetrate walls for insulation, etc). Anthony also introduced me to his main technician Dave, who would be onsite throughout the work day (Anthony was there for the first few hours). Communication was superb, and I was delighted to find Anthony sending me pictures of different areas of our house they were working on, the progress being made, areas they discovered that needed attention, and getting my permission to move forward. The crew maintained their professionalism throughout the day, and in areas that were discovered needing additional attention, Anthony and Dave did the additional work without the additional charge (it was as if I were a relative of theirs...one could really sense the dedication they have). Once the work was complete, Dave took me around the house to review the work done, answer remaining questions, did a final negative air pressure test on the house (Anthony did an initial test), cleaned up after themselves and left. I am very impressed with their degree of detail and customer service. Now, I believe I will be impressed with the product, and will need to give an update of this review after getting through a couple of months of utility bills and also sense of temperature control in the house.
