Best price of three competitors. Main floor was sanded in place oak floor. We chose pre-finished oak flooring for upstairs bedrooms to minimize furniture moving and eliminate time for sanding and finishing.
Crew handled furniture moving, carpet removal as well as installation. From the floor layers to the finisher, these people were real craftsmen who took pride in their work. They were knowledgeable, considerate and helpful. Even moved TV and couches back into family room so we could watch the Super Bowl at home - then moved same out on Monday so they could sand and finish family room floor.
Joe, the finisher, came out to discuss pros and cons of various finishing options.
Scotty and his crew came in on Saturday morning after finishing was complete and moved all furniture back - installed pads on bottoms of chairs, tables, etc. to protect the floors (we bought the pads at local store). Joe even fixed wobbly legs on kitchen table which had been a problem before the project was started.
Good to find honest, hardworking craftsmen who are genuinely nice people with whom to work.

Scott responded quickly to my request for an estimate to remove carpeting, sand and finish floors in two bedrooms. When I accepted his bid (middle of 3) he was flexible in scheduling a time for the service that was convenient for me. His employee, Joe, is an old-school pro with flooring and did a fine job. Scott responded quickly to a problem with a threshold and he and Joe fixed it to my satisfaction. My husband and I are very happy with the appearance of our finished floors. We would use Scott's company again and will recommend him to friends and family.

When we called Service Hardwoods, Scott immediately made an appointment to discuss our project. Service Hardwoods provided a sample of the wood flooring before we placed the order with them. They incorporated all that we requested concerning schedule and scope into a detailed proposal for the work, and explained how they would stage and manage the different parts of the job. The wood was delivered to pre-condition in our home. The workers arrived at our agreed-on time. They moved the furnishings as required as the work progressed. Dust was contained by plastic sheeting between rooms. The work proceeded at the pace we had been told.
The crew were professional and courteous. The floors and especially the stairs look great. We could not be more pleased with the process and the finished product.

Awesome! Hire this contractor, don't delay. We are absolutely thrilled with the professional results! The hardwod floors and staircase are stunning!
This contractor hung plastic on the first floor doors to secure and minimize dust while working on the second floor. The demo team removed carpet in 4 bedrooms, 5 closets and hallway and hauled the ugly carpeting to the curb for trash pick up the next day. The workers were on time and answered questions along the way. The floor prep went well, the installation of the oak floors was meticulously installed. The "master" stain man colorist knows his stuff. His recommendation on stain color to match existing staircase and 1st floor hardwood was right on! The sanding and buffing was done very well with attention to detail. The installation of hardwood on the staircase landing was a tricking job because it has a curved wall on one side. The craftmanship on the staircase landing installation was excellent! It matched the existing staircase and blended seamlessly.
This contractor brings in their best skilled workers to complete each phase of the job. The work was completed on time, on budget, with great customer service. The quality, skill and workmanship was outstanding. This company doesn't cut corners and takes the time to explain how to do the work right the first time. The work is done with pride as if they were doing it for their own home. This contractor is all about integrity and honesty. Don't look any further, hire this contractor. I'm so glad we did. Can't wait to hire them again to refinish my family room hardwood floors in the spring.

This was a two day job. My family room and kitchen floors were sanded down to bare wood and got their first coat on day one, then a second and final coat on day two. Prior to the application of the second coat, the floor was sanded again to produce a very smooth final finish. The floors in both of these rooms were restored to their original condition. Two damaged floor boards were replaced in the family room. I received a written estimate from Scott about one week before the work began. All kitchen cabinets and appliances were covered in plastic to prevent any of the dust from the sanding process to settle there. All the doorways leading to other rooms were also covered with plastic sheeting to prevent sawdust from spreading. The entire process was very smooth, efficient and professional from start to finish. The foreman, Scott, was very knowledgeable and polite, and his crew was very focused on the work to be done. I was charged exactly as quoted on the estimate, the work was done without any complications and within the time-frame I requested. I wish I could post before and after pictures of the work they did. These guys are good. I am in the process of selling my home, and I am sure that my "new" floor helped to increase my home's value. I would gladly recommend this company to anyone who needs hardwood flooring refinished, repaired or replaced.

Scott Callejo from Service Hardwood Floors came out at first to do a bathroonm floor repair for us. We liked his professionalism and his work, so we asked him to come back out and give us an estimate to replace and install new floors and refinish existing floors in our home. It was a big project that they made come true for us.
His estimate, work and time given to start the work were excellent. He and his crew were friendly, efficent, and knowledgable in their trade. They were kind and helpful when we needed their help too. We were in an existing home and had many pieces of furniture and things to move from room to room to assist them in completing their work. Scott and his crew were helpful in moving large pieces of furniture that we were unable to move to get the floors done.
At the beginning of each room they started, they took the time to prepare the rooms for minimal dust from their work and always picked up after themselves and bagged their garbage. They cut the carpet up in manageable pieces for the garbage man to take and loaded them all down at our curb for pick up. When the job was completed, they left without a trace of debris behind them! You could not tell that Scott's crew had even been here other than we have a new look in the house. Scott and his crew were friendly, polite and took pride in their work before, during and after the installation.
We could not be more pleased with the end results. Our floors look so beautiful, inviting and warm to us. Scott and his crews' craftsmanship are outstanding and we would call Scott again to do future work for us. He is a warm and caring indiviidual who shares his skill and gifts with others. You will not be disappointed in his work, work ethic or integrity or that of his crew. We have already sang their praises with our friends and we would highly recommend them to others too.

We called Service Hardwood Floors after another company had installed all new hardwood floors throughout our entire one bedroom condo and had failed to reconnect the refrigerator and dishwasher correctly, causing water to leak into the subfloor for two weeks before the leaks were discovered.
We met with Scott and explained the leaks that occurred due to the previous hardwood flooring company. We insisted that he bring in a professionally licensed plumber to connect the refrigerator, dishwasher, and stove (we couldn't trust that the previous company had correctly reconnected the stove). For this request, he had raised the cost of the project considerably, but for us it was worth the peace of mind.
We also pointed out that the previous hardwood flooring company had used a baseboard behind the refrigerator that did not match the rest of the unit, and we told Scott we wanted the mismatched baseboard replaced with a matching baseboard. Scott said no problem; he even named what the two different styles of baseboards were, and that what we had in the rest of the unit was the most common type you get at Home Depot.
Our initial impression when speaking with Scott was positive in that he understood our situation. He was friendly, professional, and assured us that the replacement section of floor would blend into the existing flooring. Based on our initial meeting, we felt confident that we could trust Scott to repair the damages and help us get back into our home as soon as possible.
However, subsequent communication with Scott was not very good. We should have taken this as a first sign that there would be issues later on. We had to request corrections and additions to the work proposal several times. Our condo association required that the work proposal list the materials to be used in the flooring and subfloor. We requested this from Scott when we first met him, and then again when we followed up with an email. Despite our clear and explicit request for this information to avoid any delays in our building approving this work, his initial proposal did not include this information.
Numerous spelling mistakes and lack of punctuation also made the proposal difficult and confusing to read. Scott mentioned that he dictates the words into some application on his iPad as an explanation for the spelling mistakes and lack of punctuation. Still, we expected that a work proposal is proof-read for accuracy before being sent to a customer. We eventually gave up after a few rounds of asking for corrections to be made due to our timeline constraints. We came to an agreement on a negotiated price and set the timeline for the work to begin.
After the flooring work was completed and the finish was allowed to dry, we went back to the condo one night to look at the floor. We noted several places where hair and other debris was sealed into the finish. There were also three puncture holes in the floor in the hallway just outside the bedroom. This was not part of the new section of floor that was replaced. Something had obviously fallen on the floor to cause those punctures. That evening we turned the ice maker on to make sure it was working.
The next day we returned to the condo to meet Scott. We had a painter in the unit who needed to get behind the fridge to paint the baseboard. When he pulled the fridge out, we discovered water on the floor and the wood had buckled and warped. We saw that the water supply tube that runs up the back of the fridge and into the ice maker was disconnected. Prior to this, when we asked Scott if the plumber was able to reconnect the appliances without any issues, he told us that he did not use a plumber, that he reconnected the refrigerator and dishwasher himself. We were extremely upset. We told him this water leak was exactly the reason why we wanted a professionally licensed plumber. On top of this, it's not right or fair that the price we ended up paying was more than the original quote we received, before Scott added the expense of a plumber. In the end, Scott agreed to pay for the cost of the mitigation expenses required to dry out the floor.

Some other problems we have found:
- The bottom of the bifold closet door in the bedroom was missing the pivot pin, and the size of the hole that the pivot pin goes into was bigger than it should be. Scott said that the pin was missing and that it was likely due to the previous flooring contractor, but I put the door in myself after the previous contractor had finished and the door was working perfectly before Service Hardwood Floors started their work.
- The dishwasher door was not opening correctly. We saw that there was a long large screw where it didn't belong, below the dishwasher door, above the toe plate. This was preventing the door from opening all the way. Apparently a lot of screws had gotten lost so they decided to stick in something that didn't even fit.
- We had only recently tried running the dishwasher, and it does not drain. This was not a problem before SHF started. After looking under the kitchen sink, we saw that the dishwasher drain hose was not connected to the air gap (as we know it was previously) but rather directly to the garbage disposal.
- The mismatched baseboard behind the fridge was never replaced with a matching baseboard.
- The bottom drawer for the stove was unscrewed from its rails to be removed. (SHF did not pull the stove itself out to finish the floor underneath it like the previous flooring company did.) When the drawer was put back, it was simply placed back in but not screwed back onto the rails. The screws appeared to be lost and it was not a nice surprise to have the drawer fall onto the floor when we pulled it out.

Scott and his crew were very professional and friendly through out the whole job. They had to move some large and heavy recliner furniture around some very tight areas with out damaging anything. I would use them again for refinishing and installing hardwood floors. I would also recommend them to others.

Scott arrived on time for the estimate, on the day we took possession of a new house in East Village. Completed a detailed inspection and walk through of the entire house (3200 sq feet). He beat two other inspections by $1200 for two jobs. Arrived the next morning with a crew of 5 and we chose a stain in less than 20 minutes. They stripped all the floors of the clear polyurthane and in 8 days, refinished the floors in a brown. We gave them the keys bc the house was empty and they cleaned up and locked everything.

The whole experience could not have gone better. I called Scott on a Wednesday and he was able to stop by that night and give me a very competitive estimate on the spot. He told me he could start on Friday, and after a quick call to my wife to relay the quote, we decided to take advantage of his offer. He and his crew showed up promptly on Friday morning, and, after helping me move some furniture out of one of the rooms, he quickly sanded off an area and allowed us to see the stain options and helped us make our choice by putting those options directly on the floor. They then continued to remove some remaining carpeting from closets and got started with the sanding as I left for work. When I returned that evening, the first coat was on, and from the top of the stairway everything looked beautiful. Early the next morning one of the crew arrived to put on the second coat, and by Sunday morning,we were moving furniture back into the rooms. The floors looked perfect except for a stray hair that got stuck to the floor while staining. I called Scott and he came out later that week and not only corrected the problem, but showed me how to correct similar issues should a scratch our gouge occur in the future. Others who have seen the floors have commented that they look like new. There are no signs of previous stains nor any other imperfections.
I have already recommended Scott to a friend looking to have similar work done.

I called for an estimate and Scott was able to come out as soon as I had time to meet with him. I had previously contacted two other companies (also on Angie's List, but who shall remain nameless for this review) to come out and provide estimates. Both times I got the distinct impression they didn't want the job. Based on the age of the house and the other flooring, I was guessing that there would be hardwood underneath, but earlier estimators had been reluctant to actually help me figure out what was going on underneath the existing floors. Scott came out and helped me rip out one section of the flooring in a place where the linoleum was already coming loose and deteriorating and gave me a quote on the spot based on what we found, with an explanation of my options and how the cost might change if the floors turned out to be significantly damaged in places we couldn't see. Based on his general attitude and the fact that his quote was less than the others I received, I hired him on the spot. By the end of the day my exceedingly ugly linoleum was history, and the next day the floors were sanded and stained. Two work days later the sealant was done and the moulding and thresholds replaced. Scott and his crew were at all times polite, punctual, and very patient with my 4 year old son's constant desire to pop in and say hi. They did an excellent job in matching the stain in my hallway to the other existing hardwood floors, and for coming up with ideas for how to deal with the pine floors in my kitchen (I hate the yellow color of pine and ended up going with a whitewash, which looks great). As we went along the scope of the job increased as I made decisions about replacing existing moulding and the whitewash stain, and Scott was always able to come up with revised quotes for me pretty much on the spot so I could make a quick decision. He was at all times very responsive to questions and provided great suggestions. My floors look fabulous. The finished product is everything I had hoped for. Overall, I cannot think of a single thing they could have done better. If I could give an A++ review I would. I will definitely recommend them and hire again.

Overall I was very pleased. Scott came by about a week before service was performed to provide a quote. An appt was made and Scott arrived on-time and I was very pleased with the results of his work. The quote was $250 but when the job was complete Scott wasn't completely satisfied with the finished product so he kocked $50 off the price which was nice. Let me say that in my eyes the job was completed better than I expected so I do not feel that the work was poor or incomplete. Very friendly and even took the time to explain what work was being done and why it was being performed

Service Hardwood floors did a FANTASTIC job on our stairs! Other companies told us they couldn't fix the damaged stairs yet Scott came out and told us he would fix them and make them look like new, and true to his word they came out better than we expected. I was also impressed by how careful they were to make sure there was minimal dust due to the sanding involved. They put plastic down to cover our furniture and any areas that needed to be covered to protect it from the dust. He even went as far as completely covering the stairs and had his crew work undermeath a plastic tent he made to help confine the dust. It made the job much more difficult for him and his crew but he was more concerned with confining the dust. I really appreciated everything they did to keep the dust to a minimum and was impressed with how they cleaned and picked up after each days work. I would definitely use them again and am VERY satisfied with the OUTSTANDING work they did.

Scott Callejo - came out measured first thing in morning and before i knew by afternoon the floor was pretty much installed. Scott returned next morning to finish touch ups and floor board molding. Scott did and excellent job from start to finish i would definitely use his services again. I could not tell he was ever even there with the exception of the new floor present. All excess garbage and scrap was taken away and disposed of, he left no trace behind of an installer being there except a brand new floor which LQQK's AWESOME!
Response from Service Hardwood Flooring
"Thank you! It was our pleasure to install your floor. We enjoyed working with you, and look forward to being a part of your next project."

The job could not have gone any better, the floors look like new! The original pine floors on the second floor look amazing; we thought they were going to need replacing. On top of all the work Service Hardwood Floors provided they also provide me with a referral with a local contractor for moving a door in the hallway to the bedroom, I never thought this would go as well as it did. We would recommend Scott Callejo and Service Harwood Floors to anyone considering having their floors refinished.
Response from Service Hardwood Flooring
"Thank you so much for the opportunity to work with you. We agree your floor looked great as all our floors do. Enjoy the new house and call us when that kitchen is ready."
