Mark Oldfield (the owner of Oldfield Inspection Services) conducted a home inspection. He also arranged for additional businesses to conduct a radon test and a termite test for an additional fee (paid directly to those firms via check at the time of service). The fees for those services are listed on the Oldfield Inspections website. This review is for the home inspection only. Mark Oldfield showed up right on time and was extremely professional in every way. We had difficulty obtaining access to the house because an appraiser had taken the realtor key out of the lockbox and forgotten to replace it. This might have meant the cancellation of the inspection, but Mark was resourceful and found a way to enter the house by contacting the listing agent and the seller, keeping clear communication with them at all times about the situation. He also assured them he would secure the house properly once we were finished. Once we were able to enter the house, he began his inspection as if nothing had happened. I shadowed him for much of the inspection to ensure I had a good understanding of what he uncovered. Mark has two mantras he communicates up front to the home buyer he's conducting the inspection for: 1) he always leaves the house in exactly the condition it was in when he arrived and 2) he will share the good, bad and ugly news as he uncovers it, even if it turns him into a "deal killer." In the case of this inspection, he was extremely thorough and found things that we did not know about that were important for us, as buyers, to know. He also pointed out positive features of the house that indicated good worksmanship from prior installations of appliances and systems and ensured that I (as a buyer) understood the ins and outs of what he was seeing. Reports are emailed on the day of inspection and are very detailed, filled with pictures that provide clear evidence of any issues that require repair. Mark was quite willing to show me small items that needed repair and to explain to me how I could handle those repairs on my own. Mark is also a personable, friendly person all around who is very easy to work with. He takes a lot of pride in the work he does and is extremely up front about his desire to ensure things go smoothly. His assistant is also extremely pleasant and well-organized; she made sure that all of the instructions were extremely clear and that everything went as planned, and she was extremely gracious in all of my dealings with her. All in all, I was extremely pleased with the service provided. I will recommend Oldfield Inspection Services to any friends who are purchasing homes.

Mark was a wonderful inspector! He was detailed and complete in his tasks. It was wonder that he allowed my husband to shadow him and ask as many questions as he needed to....we are first time home buyers, so we had a lot of questions. Mark was quick and concise with his report, we had it by that evening! Pictures included in the report were detailed and wonderful.

Mark's professionalism was apparent throughout the process. From the prompt return of phone calls, to his explanation of services, to the inspection walk-through. I felt confident that I was receiving the best inspection service available.

Mark was really incredible. He walked me thru the whole process and took pictures. He also provided an online report. He is very experienced and easy to get along with. I would use him again. In addition he is insured in Illinois and I found that to be rare.

I was at the home approximately 15 min early and Mark showed up about 5 minutes later. While we were waiting to get into the house he took the time to tell me about his experience and asked if I had an opportunity to go to his website and look at the sample inspection reports, which I had. He explained what he would be doing and that he encouraged me to ask questions along the way. He was very thorough and professional. He was unable to get on the roof that day due to a snow storm we had gotten the over the weekend. However, he did go back a few days later and get on the roof of the house and updated the inspection report right away. I was very impressed by his services and how quick he got the inspection report to me.

Mark arrived on time at 8:00a.m. and inspected the home that I am rehabbing from the ceiling down, he took his time, check everything that I could imagine and several things that suprised me all the while commenting, making suggestions and showing me how to maintain some things myself. He was very generous with his time answering every one of my questions. That evening he e-mailed a detailed report. He also invited me to consider his as a resource as I rehab this house and to call with questions or for references. Mark was personable and professional.
