Soto Remodelers

I first called the company to upgrade the electric and replace an air conditioner coil. When they replaced the coil, the compressor didn't work. When I asked if I could get a new air conditioner, it took them a long time to get back to me, then said that the coil would not work with the new air conditioners on the market. So they did agree to swap out the coil and replace it with one that would work with the new AC. They left the old compressor in the back yard and I had to tell them to remove it. They smashed a gutter. They said it would take 2 days to replace the furnace and AC. It took a week. They left trash and sharp metal objects all around the basement and outside. One of their own electricians said the set up of the furnace would not pass a city inspection. Numerous gas leaks occurred in the pipes extending from the new furnace. One of the main lines was not tightened. With the electric service, the city inspector noted that they did not label the circuit breakers and they left a hole in the wall to the outside. Soto did not get back to address these issues until after the city fined the electrician and said it was going to come back to check his past work. Appointments were set to address these issues and repeatedly canceled, often at the last minute or several hours after the appointment time. Several circuit breakers were not working. The wiring had not been completed. A line to an outside outlet had not been connected. The company sent new electricians to address these issues, which it appears they did correct. However, those same electricians said that the new circuit breaker box was installed in the wrong location because it did not have three feet of clearance from an obstruction--in this case, a gas line. There is just enough room to open the box. The company did fill in the hole in the wall with expandable foam, leaving a mess of foam protruding from the area, rather than smoothing it out and making it flush with the wall. A plumber from another company came to look for more gas leaks and said that the inside grounding was blocking access to the sewage line. We would not be able to easily access it if we needed to rod it. We also had asked the company to insulate a crawl space and install a vent to a sunroom. It was supposed to take a day. It took over a week, with different people coming at different times, installing it incorrectly then tearing it down and starting all over again. The ductwork to the room is way too big for the room. As a result, the small room gets way too much heat, which draws away from the upstairs. The point of contact for the company was very polite at all times, and tried to make accommodations for the bad work. But his estimates for time to completion were way off, and appointments were often not kept. It's very unfortunate. All of this work, which was estimated to take a couple weeks, started in the fall of 2010 and was just resolved in late January 2011. I gave them many chances to provide good service but came away entirely disappointed. I did not want to have to write this report but feel I have to.
