RACE STUMP & TREE

I called them to remove a tree stump in my front yard from the September 21st storm that hit Andover, and got their voice mail. The owner called me back latere that day, and I explained i wanted the stump removed, and he asked me what the diameter of the stump was. When i told him 8 to 10 inches, he told me he would have to charge me $60 to just drive over from Blaine to look at it and give me an estimate. When I expressed surprise at that, he said I had to ''understand the nature of the business. That he had a truck and a trailer and a stump grinder he hauled around on it, and that it he couldn't just drive around looking at stumps without charging for it.'' I wished him good luck with his business, and got another contractor who gave me a choice of grinding the stump for $50, or totally removing it for $150. I got it totally removed, and they did a great job of cleaning up afterwards and replacing the dirt, etc. I would not reccomend Race Stump & Tree.

BRUCE RETURNED MY INITIAL CALL IMMEDIATELY AND WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL, KNOWLEDGEABLE AND FRIENDLY. HE QUOTED ME A ROUGH PRICE OF $100 TO GRIND THE STUMPS AND THE BUSH (WE OPTED TO HANDLE CLEANUP ON OUR OWN). WE SCHEDULED THE SERVICE FOR THE NEXT DAY, AND HE ARRIVED PROMPTLY. HE LOOKED AT THE STUMPS/BUSH AND SAID HE COULD DO THE WORK FOR THE PRICE QUOTED. THE WHOLE PROCESS WAS DONE IN A FEW HOURS AND WAS EXTREMELY PAINLESS. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

AFTER CALLING SEVERAL COMPANIES AND GETTING LITTLE OR NO RESPONSE, WE CALLED BRUCE ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON. HE CAME OUT THAT EVENING AND GAVE AN ESTIMATE OF $500 WHICH INCLUDED GRINDING AND HAULING. HE SAID IT WOULD BE A FEW DAYS AS HE WAS BUSY WITH CALLS REGARDING DUTCH ELM DISEASE. WE CAME HOME FROM WORK ON MONDAY AND HE AND HIS CREW WERE ALREADY THERE GRINDING OUT THE STUMP. HE HAD A SMALL GRINDER SO IT TOOK A WHILE, BUT AFTER HE WAS DONE, HIS CREW OF 3 YOUNG MEN CLEANED UP THE DEBRIS, HAULED IT AWAY AND IT LOOKED GREAT. I FELT BRUCE WAS VERY REASONABLE AND THAT HE SHOWED UP SO QUICKLY TO DO THE JOB MADE THE EXPERIENCE EVEN BETTER.
