I contacted Stephen Dickson, "The Apple Guy," at 8pm on a Tuesday night. He was very friendly and professional. He asked me some simple questions about my MacBook Pro. I emailed him details. He gave me an estimate (approx. $125) and then immediately ordered me a new trackpad. He stayed in contact with me until the trackpad was delivered to him on Thursday. I dropped off my MacBook Pro on Thursday after work. He immediately got to work and had the track pad installed by the next day. I understood that he had other orders going, but he was very kind and professional in getting this 2-hour job done with such a fast turnaround. When he called me on Friday, we chatted for a bit and he indicated that my Mac was running slow. He recommended that I allow him to do some updates and clean up some unnecessary files. I agreed. Amazingly enough, he had it done and had my Mac ready THAT SATURDAY. I was amazed. When I picked up my computer, he indicated that the trackpad had cost about $80 and that he was going to charge me $120. This was UNDER his original estimate AND included several extra hours of work. I actually paid him a tad more (what? I refuse to let people undercharge me because they're thoughtful) and took my Mac home. He had even updated my operating system so that everything ran more quickly than ever. He is the most professional computer guy I've ever met--and when I lived in San Francisco, I knew a lot of people that worked on Macs. Stephen will NOT rip you off, will NOT quote you a huge price for stuff you don't need, and will even work on the weekends to get you up and running.
Description of Work: My track pad started malfunctioning on my 2009 MacBook Pro. It had already passed the 1-year coverage through Apple, so I needed to find someone to replace my trackpad. Because I teach online classes for ICC (and am actually taking a graduate-level course myself), I wasn't really interested in shipping my Mac to Apple and waiting weeks for it to be repaired and sent back to me. I checked around with several local computer repair places; most wanted $100 just to look at my computer, then more to fix it, and they couldn't quote me a turnaround time--but did say it would take days to get to it and another few days to get to fixing it. I found some excellent reviews of "The Apple Guy" and followed them up.
