Return damaged clothing to its original condition with our garment repair and reweaving in Chicago, IL. We have set the industry standards for over 30 years.
I used to go back to them because they do good work. I will never go back to them because they are the most rude, obnoxious people on the world to deal with.
Description of Work: I used Without A Trace weaver about three weeks ago. They fixed some poles in a shirt and then did a leather protection on a jacket.

I found Without A Trace on Angie's List. Contacted them by email and then spoke with them by phone regarding my leather jacket repair needs. Dropped it off, got a three week time estimate for the repairs and it was all done in about 12 days. Very pleased with all the work, the jacket looks much better!
Description of Work: Repaired two torn hand-warmer pockets, repaired interior pocket, cleaned and re-dyed a leather jacket.

I have brought many sweaters in to be rewoven which they do extraordinarily well, but was surprised to learn that they do fur repairs and design updates as well. I took my hooded white mink/white leather reversible jacket in to see what they could do about the sleeves that had worn, since the rest of the jacket was in pretty good shape. A vest was the decision we reached, and after just a couple of weeks, the product was this gorgeous vest that looked amazing on either side. I had gotten estimates in the $1000+ range from furriers at Neiman Marcus and Saks, and consider my <$600 charge money VERY well spent! I would not only use them again, I'm recommending them to everyone I know! THANK YOU MICHAEL (the owner) for a terrific job!!!

They showed us why the tear was too extensive to be rewoven and determined that the tear was not in the correct place for a simple elbow patch. They then explained that they could create a patch using material from a hidden area of the jacket. They were honest about the fact that you would be able to see the outline of the patch even though they would closely match the pattern of the weave. The price and time (3 weeks) that we were quoted were accurate, and they called us when it was ready. We don't have any previous experience to know whether the price is high or low, but we were told exactly what it would be and agreed to it in order to save a "beloved" jacket. We were very satisfied with this service.
Description of Work: (This report is for the 3344 W. Bryn Mawr location.) Repaired a tear (not a worn spot) in the sleeve of a men's blue Donegal tweed herringbone pattern wool jacket made in Ireland. They created a patch using material from a hidden area of the jacket and covered the tear. They told us up front that the outline of the patch would be visible, which it is, but they matched the herringbone pattern so well that it is barely noticeable to anyone who doesn't know it's there. We are very happy with this repair, which saved an expensive jacket with great sentimental value.

called without a trace to ask about cutting down a shearling coat. was told to bring it to the bryn mawr store for an assessment. was assured they could make the coat much more wearable for me, and i agreed for them to do the work. they asked if the walton store was closer for me to pick the coat up at... which it was... and they agreed to deliver it there. everyone i dealt with from the initial phone call to the counter help to the alteration man to the man i picked it up from, was friendly, courteous, and professional. my coat looks MUCH better and i am very happy with the service provided by WITHOUT A TRACE! i would not hesitate to use them again & to refer them to friends.

I sent the slacks in for repair and asked that they contact me to discuss the extent of the damage before agreeing to having any work done. When the customer service rep contacted me, we had a lengthy discussion about what the end result would look like so that I could decide whether or not to proceed. I was told that the end result would be "barely noticeable" and unless you look very closely, you will just notice a line across the top. The price was quoted at $125 and the cost of the slacks new was $275 so I was somewhat hesitant to have the work done. I asked if they would do it for $100 and she agreed. Their website has several before and after images and based on the reps comments and the images, I agreed to have the work done. What was supposed to be "barely noticeable" was anything but. Each area had two one inch square patches weaved into the fabric. It was totally obvious and looked terrible. I called the company back to express my displeasure. The Owner took the call and before I could finish two sentences, he cut me off and just ripped into me. I was shocked by this guy's attitude. He literally scolded me. i. His employee has worked there 25 years and would never use the phrase "barely noticeable". OK, I must have made that up! ii. He told me the customer service rep tried to talk me out of having the work done. OK, so even though she's saying the workmanship would be poor, I wanted it done anyway. Right. If that's the case, why didn't they refuse to do the work? If I didn't care about the workmanship, I wouldn't have called to complain in the first place. iii. He insisted she told that there would be two square outlines where the work was done. Not true. She never said that, and the before/after images on their website do not indicate this. iv. He said I made up the phrase "barely noticeable" and said I only heard what I wanted to hear. v. He said "we even reduced the price by $25". So what? Does that justify poor workmanship? vi. He said "you didn't even come in, you sent the pants in". So what? Does that mean you won't do a good job? vii. He said he would reduce the bill by $20. I said I thought he should refund the entire amount because the slacks were no longer wearable. He refused, then closed by saying "I don't need customers like you, goodbye". This guy has a hot head. He is rude, inconsiderate and condecending. Bottom line: If you don't like the quality of the workmanship, don't complain.
Description of Work: A pair of dress slacks had two damaged areas, about 1" apart, each about 1/4" in diameter, about the size of a pea. Hand weaving was performed to repair the damaged areas.

dont really remember who customer is but looked up name and saw pictures we would never put two inweaves side by side like that unless we had no material and when she says we tried to tell her it would look bad and she still wanted it done we are in bussiness if customer wants us to do something after we tell them it will show a square outline we will do it we have been in business for 30 years this customer is not telling the truth

A small hole in one of my favorite sweaters precipitated my search for a good reweaver, and Chicago Magazine recommended Without a Trace, with locations on the Gold Coast and in Chicago's North Park neighborhood. I dropped my sweater off at the Gold Coast location and was told they would be in contact with me when the repairs were completed. Fast forward several weeks later, and my sweater was ready for pick up. Without a Trace's strange hours (open only until 4:30pm) did not make it easy for me to return to collect my garment, as I had recently begun work in the suburbs and it had become difficult for me to be downtown before they close. I did not pick up my garment until a few weeks after the repairs were completed, and only after several increasingly frantic an accusatory phone calls from the business. For the benefit (and entertainment) of Angie's List members, here is an excerpted portion of the most psychotic voice message: "I don't know why you're refusing just to come pick up your sweater. . . um, this isn't right. . . I don't understand why you'd bring something in and not pick it up or return any calls. . . I just. . . it's something." I had never before received as bizarre or manic a voicemail before. Not from any ex after a bad breakup, or from any crazy member of my family. Now, this voice message may lead you to believe that I'm one of those sick people who gets off on dropping off garments for dry cleaning, alterations, or repairs. and then leaving them there forever sticking the company with the bill. Ha, the joke is on you, reweaving company! Reality? A too-long turnaround time and inconvenient hours of operations made it difficult to pick up my sweater, only one of several that I own and that provide me warmth and comfort on a regular basis. When I returned to pick up my garment, I asked the nice young man working at the time if it was he that left me the aforementioned message. I told him that it was the single most psychotic, unprofessional voicemail that I had ever received. Without hesitation, the employee told me that it must have been the owner, Michael. This leads me to believe that I am not the first customer to suffer the indignity of dealing with the business's proprietor. If you're looking for a healthy dose of abuse along with your garment repair, might I suggest Without a Trace? If you happen to be reading this, Michael, might I suggest for you some time on the couch with a good psychotherapist? It's not terribly professional to work through your obviously complex emotional issues on your customers' answering machines!

first of all our hours are 930-545 m-f and Saturday 10-2 so i think this member is a little confused. he brought his sweater in dec 3 2009 we called him about dec 19 leaving him a message that his sweater was completed no response in the middle of feb we called again left message no response again tried running his credit card it was declined left message in march telling him that if we don't hear from him we would be selling his garment at the price for the repair. Customers leave garments and never come back to pick them up my only recourse is to get credit cards and when he was declined figured he was never coming in. a return call telling us that he will be coming in was all we needed its very typical of a customer not responding not wanting there garment i think 90 days is plenty of time to call or pick up your garment. also i have 2 stores to make it even easier to get your repairs and i think our hours work very well

In the case of both the dress and the sweater, they did a terrific job. You could not see where the rips had originally been once they had finished their work. The price I am providing is for both items. I believe it is more than reasonable, considering what you would have to pay to buy a new dress or sweater.
Description of Work: They mended a dress made out of a tweed-like material, sewing up the tear with clear thread. Also, I brought in a sweater which had been torn and they mended it.

THEY REQUIRE THAT THE GARMENT BE DRY CLEANED BEFORE REPAIR WORK CAN BE DONE, AND THEY SUGGESTED THAT I TAKE THE SWEATER TO MY OWN DRY CLEANER. THE WORK ITSELF TAKES SEVERAL WEEKS. WORK IS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE WHERE THE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. ALTHOUGH THE WORK IS EXPENSIVE, NO ONE ELSE DOES THIS TYPE OF REPAIR SO THERE IS NO WAY TO COMPARE PRICES.
