Response from Taylor Made Landscape
Our web site and Shutterfly picture sharing sites clearly state: " Please note: There is a $75.00 fee for this first visit. This total amount will be put towards any service that we provide." I'm sorry that you didn't feel that a site visit, measuring, design, sketch, plant list and proposal is worth a fully transferable $75.00 fee. I wouldn't dream of asking a professional interior designer drive out to my place, spend an hour with me looking at my house, measuring my rooms, taking pictures, asking about what kind of design I am interested and providing me with an interior design plan, fabric and paint color choices and proposal and doing all that for free. That just doesn't make sense to me. He didn't pay anything so the *cost* above is inaccurate.

Description of Work: Maureen Taylor was absolutely terrific. She is a no nonsense type of professional which was exactly what I was looking for. She provided the design and estimate on time. After seeing her projects pictured on her website, I left the designing up to her. I had explained what type of yard I was wanting and she delivered 100%. I couldn't have made all of the choices for plants and what would grow well in what area. She did it all and I am very grateful to her for making our yard, both front and back, absolutely beautiful. I have already contacted her to do some additional plantings for this Spring. Her staff was wonderful, very professional and efficient. The whole process could not have been gone better in any way. I wholeheartedly recommend her for any landscaping project Angie's List members may have for their yard.

I came at this project from the perspective that my landscaping had to be completely overhauled; but I knew nothing about how to do it, or what it should look like when it's finished. I told Maureen is that I wanted something cool, unique and that will compliment my house. That, and I needed the retaining wall completely replaced because the developer never installed the necessary drainage. How' s that for a wide open, vague mandate? I found Maureen via Angie's List; along with several other well reviewed vendors. After reviewing several proposals, I went back and talked to each landscaper and basically said I like this; I don't like this; and can you include these feature from one of the other proposals. Surprisingly, two vendors said they would only make changes after we were under contract and a deposit had been paid. As a business owner, I understand that they don't want to invest a bunch of time and energy, only to up not get the business. However, as a consumer, I know I not going to sign a contract and make deposits to a company if I don't know, with reasonable certainty, what the finished product will look like and that they will deliver on time and on budget. That's why Maureen won the business: she earned it. She was willing to work with me; she visited the property several times, took lots of measurements and pictures and made changes and revisions based on my feedback. At the end of the day, Maureen gave me a was very cool, unique design and convinced me she could deliver the finished product on time and on budget. Because Maureen has earned quite a few favorable reviews, she is busier than ever. In fact, part way through the design process she changed her voice mail greeting so callers would know she was pretty swamped and asked for their patience with her follow up. The really cool thing is that the message didn't apply to me. Because I was her client, she was very attentive and responsive. As a client, I don't want to be made to wait; waiting patiently is for the non-clients. I think it was because she changed he voice mail greeting that I noticed it, but once we agreed on the design, cost and time frame, (I became her client) she became even more attentive and responsive. She was all over my project and could not have been more responsive and communicative. The universal truth is, you get what you pay for. Maureen was not the cheapest vendor, but she was definitely in the ball park and she was the best. Maureen earned the business by being responsive, attentive and accommodating. Simply put: she earned the business; just like she earned this review. You will be very well served to hire Maureen Taylor, of Taylor Made Landscape, to handle your landscaping needs. She really knows her business, listens carefully and has the ability to turn the client's mental images into reality, while staying accessible and responsive. In fact, we have already started to come up with a cool design and completely redo my backyard later this summer.
Description of Work: Maureen Taylor, of Taylor Made Landscape, completely redid my front yard this summer and she did a fantastic job! I mean a really great job. It looks awesome and I get compliments on it almost every day.

I'd had several landscapers in to do estimates and Maureen was the only one who gave me a timely estimate, really took into account to what I wanted and provided the best mix of "design"+practicality. Her estimate was not the lowest but it was the most professional (other estimates neglected to include parts of the garden, etc.) I decided to go with her, and through no fault of Maureen's I was unable to commit to the project at this time. She responded to my late cancellation with grace and professionalism, and I will definitely use her when I'm ready to move forward with the project.
Description of Work: Examined the property and gave me and estimate and a workup of the landscape design.
Meet with Maureen to discuss transforming your crappy, winter-ravaged yard into a green oasis and you'll discover what we did: she's awesome. We instantly trusted her to do beautiful things with our ridiculously small budget. When we hit it big and have a gigantic compound to landscape, we'll call Maureen for that too. If you're just starting to get bids for spring sod, planting, and hardscaping, do yourself a favor and get a quote from Maureen like we did. We didn't end up working with her this year (getting owners to agree when you're in a small condo association can be challenging) but we'll definitely call her in the future. She really listens when you tell her about your vision for your landscaping, then she very professionally offers better solutions. Highly recommend.

We had our yard landscaped by another company and although they did an good job, they were unresponsive to performing the regular maintenance. Here's where Maureen stepped in. She was extremely responsive and made herself available to meet my schedule. Maureen provided honest suggestions and made sure we were satisfied with the estimate and the work performed. My lawn service (via homeowner association) ruined the new sod that was laid and Maureen responded immediately with replacing sections of the sod. She is a pleasure to work with and very reliable. We shows up as expected to perform the monthly maintenance. We highly recommend Taylor Made Landscaping.

It went very well. I was a little nervous to call because I thought our job was small and too late in the season. However, Maureen was great to work with. She came out, provided ideas and the estimate. Within a few weeks all of the work had been scheduled and completed. The crew that did the patio was great - they even reused the existing patio pieces and placed them along of the garage very neatly. I love the shrubs she picked to add to the bed along with our existing plants. I'm very happy and would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: They removed an existing patio approx 12 X 6, and replaced is with paver stone patio approx 19 x 6. The larger patio took up some of the space in an adjacent garden bed, so some of the shrubs and plants had to be moved, a new bed made and the plants replanted.

,I contacted Maureen because I wanted some guidance about appropriate plants for my front yard. First meeting was a free consultation, and I was impressed with the way that she listened to my needs/wants. I, then, hired her to complete a sketch/landscape design and provide a plant list of suitable plants that would work well in my space. After our initial meeting, she provided me with a wide variety of plants that I could tailor to my needs and my likes. Once I narrowed down the list, she completed a landscape design for my front yard. I really like that she listened to my wants and understood my thoughts/desires for my yard. She provided me with a wonderful design for my yard.

Working with Maureen was great. I found her name on Angie's list and left her a message. She got back to me quickly and came out to see the place within a few days. She had great ideas when we talked and a full plan with bid a week later. We sent her the deposit and had a completely new patio area two weeks later. It looks amazing. I plan to call her in the spring to help me put together an herb container garden.
Description of Work: All work included materials and labor. The site is a townhouse condo in the city with a private patio. Maureen removed the rotting retaining wall, old plants including a tree stump, excess soil , and really ugly lighting. She designed and installed a whole new garden area with a stone retaining wall, plenty of lighting, about 26 plants (including a small boxwood and a climber) and river rocks.

We wanted to use a landscape designer that wouldn't have a problem with smaller project. A few we had spoken too came in with really high bids or didn't want the job. We found Maureen on Angie's List and she had been highly evaluated. She sat down with us and after we told her what we wanted came back with a plan that we could afford but was very ascetically pleasing. She was hands on and when there were delays or problems (very few of both) kept my wife and I informed. Maureen guarantees the work and it has held up very nicely after the first year. We highly recommend her and would use her again.
Description of Work: -Installation of electro-coated steel fence. Removed old fence -Construction of retaining wall along fence -Paver patio re-lay. This was a big project. They had to pull out all of the pavers, re-build the base, and then re-install it. Accounted for almost 25% of the cost. Workmanship was first rate. -Installed flag stones along side of house. -Planted lilac, Korean Spice viburnums, and Arborvitae along side of fence. -Sodded remaining area of yard.
It was a great pleasure working with this company. Maureen is knowledgeable, flexible, a GREAT designer and her workers are impecable. Her work ethics is excellent and she really is focused on having the best for the client. She is a true professional, she offered excellent suggestions and made our yard a jewell in the neighboorhood. From a small, nothing to look at small yard she transformed it completely in a place where we have great pleasure drinking coffee, entertain friends or just watch through the windows and enjoy the site. The project was not trivial, we spend approximately 14,000 but we are so happy with it that I can make anyone assure that should we start again we would certainly chose Maureen again. Even our neighboors enjoy the site and were impressed so they hired Maureen to complete their yard as well. She first spent approx 1 hour looking, measuring, chosing angles. then she described the project and created an estimate (she was also flexible with the plants in the estimate); then she started the work with removing the trees, painting a fence, building the cedar fence (a great personal design which is giving uniqueness to our garden); last came the stone work and the elevating of the grond so it will be symetrical and clean. since we went on vacation she was willing to wait with the planting (and subsequently with the payment with the second part) for the 1 month we were on vacation. She could have easily say, let's do it but she waited just to do the best work. A great deal of professionalism...Lastly the planting and the finishing of the carpentry work.We do hope we will continue to work with Maureen at other projects we may have around our house. Excellent job Maureen, we really enjoyed working with you...the complete transformation of our garden is almost magical...like all of a sudden we have 100-150 extra yards we never saw before. Bravo, Maureen!!!
Description of Work: Maureen's company did: iron fence, carpentry for placing a great horizontal fence custom made with different openings, work on blue stone and elevated the whole yard 12-15 in. They also worked on removing trees, planting, etc. Hard work and excuted impecably.
I found Maureen on Angie's list and was impressed with member reviews. She came to my home in January, 2012 and we discussed my vision for the area I wanted developed in my yard. Maureen listened to my likes, dislikes, concerns, desires.... and assured me she could come up with a fantastic design plan within my budget. She walked the property in the dead of winter as she gathered information for her plans. The initial consultation is free obviously, and her professional landscape design plans are a reasonable fee. Maureen was very in tune to our desire to create an outdoor space that was lush and private. She designed a lighted seat wall out of natural stone creating a cozy sitting area that can be enjoyed in the day or evening. Because of her knowledge of trees, bushes and plants, the plan incorporated color and bloom, at the same time, creating privacy and intimacy. Maureen also effectively managed and utilized top subcontractors. Federico, the stone subcontractor, takes great pride in the quality of his stone work. He is exact and precise and focused on doing the job right. He also used polymeric sand (that hardens) between the existing patio bricks to help cut down on weed growth. One can see the excellent workmanship in the beautiful stonework in the final design. In addition to the high quality of work, Maureen's estimate for implementation was very competitive. I would highly recommend Maureen to friends and colleagues for her creative ideas, quality of workmanship, professionalism and follow-up. The garden is far more than we had hoped for! We absolutely love it!
Description of Work: Initial consultation, Presentation of professional landscape design, Competitive bid for project, Installation of natural stone seat wall with LED lights and tree uplighting, Application of polymeric sand between existing patio bricks, Preparation of large area of plant beds, All planting of trees, bushes, perennials, annuals, Grading of lawn trench from unrelated project, Continued follow-up and plant care reminders

Met with Maureen to address our front shade garden which was affected by the loss of a very large parkway tree. A a gardener I knew that most of the space would have to be re-evaluated. The path that my husband and I put in some time ago was in dire straits and from a design point of view needed to addressed first.. With an esthetic in mind, she & her crew executed a lovely modern design that we couldn't be happier with. Even though we paid another company less per square foot of the same blue stone for our back yard last year, the difference in execution and quality left us without issue. They were even able to work the design around the flood control which was a concern.

Maureen always returns telephone calls and coordinates closely with her subcontractors. The quality of the workmanship is impressive and they guarantee the work. We're going to have the paver guy (Federico) return to fix some other, old structure that was not part of this project. We wanted to tweak it a little bit and she was very flexible. The home owner should have a basic plan of how he/she wants the project to look. Maureen takes it from there and fleshes it out along with suggestions borne of experience along the way. Highly recommended
Description of Work: We own a small home in the city and hadn't touched the yard in 5 years. It was in pretty grim condition. It needed a complete overhaul. Maureen came in and went over the plan with us. She incorporated much of the existing foliage into the rebuilding of the back yard. We had to: -rebuild our paver patio (pulling it out and then reinstalling it) -remove a 20 year old dog ear wooden fence and replace it with a retaining wall that incorporates a black metal fence (it looks b******') -add foliage to the newly built bed by the fence -re-sod the grass that was removed (looks like a carpet now, perfect) -planted a fantastic looking Japanese maple out front.

See above (summary: it went great!)
Description of Work: Maureen helped us reimagine our backyard and garden, and had a crew do a lot of the heavy lifting we could not do ourselves. At our first meeting we discussed our general ideas for a new perennial garden and expansion of the turf lawn in our yard. She helepd us think of a general plan and layout we hadn't even considered, and then gave us an entirely detailed color diagram and plan for making it happen. And when we decided we neeeded help tearning out some old lawn for a newly located garden, and adding sod to a former garden area, her crew was incredibly prompt, professional and very fairly priced. Our yard is well on its way to being tranformed (we are doing some of the work ourselves, based on Maureen's plan, and so we are doing it bit by bit). This was a great overall experience!

Even before our lawn was torn up by People's Gas and we had masonry work done on the front of our building, our little front yard needed some serious help. It not only was boring, but what we did have there was unkempt. Sure, we cut the grass and watered, but the bushes were more than we could handle - grew several feet every year - and we could never keep much in the way of bulb flowers and annuals growing. It was all very scraggly-looking. We tore out the bushes (which we hated anyway) last fall so our masonry guys didn't have to crawl behind them to work. Once he finished this past spring, it was the perfect time to start over and do something really nice out front. We knew it was beyond our expertise, so we started the search for a landscaper. It wasn't easy, especially after this past cold, wet spring; other landscapers we contacted were far behind in their work and were trying to catch up. We'd sort of given up and thought we'd have to wait until next spring to actually get bushes and plantings in. But then a good friend told us about Maureen and the wonderful job she'd done in her backyard, an already-established yard that our friend wanted to spruce up. Maureen came out within a few days of my initial phone call, which she returned the same day I made it. She spent over an hour with me, looking at the front of our building, measuring the space, and asking all sorts of questions - how much time did we have for yard upkeep, what plants and colors, if any, did we like, did we want something formal, exotic, etc. Maureen took photos as well. I did have definite ideas about what we wanted, especially about the overall look. But I just didn't know how certain shrubs and perennials would do with our lighting and our "micro-climate" - half a block from the lake, brutal wind in the winter, and sandy soil. Trees and shrubs can be pricey, and mistakes with them are not only expensive, but time-consuming. This aspect of DIY landscaping had been paralyzing for us in the past; what to put in that we wouldn't end up losing in a year or two? So we ended up not doing much of anything, and it showed. Maureen listened and took notes. At the end of our meeting, we already had some "definites" on placement for a small tree and shrubs, and several ideas for species. Same for the smaller perennial plantings. While Maureen came up with the plan and estimate, which took about ten days, she gave me homework to do. I went to a few local nurseries and gardening centers and scouted out trees and shrubs to see what I liked. It was very helpful to see them "in real life" - photos online are good, but I found that actually seeing the plants in person was much better. I took some photos myself, and made lots of notes. I wanted to be actively involved in the process, so this worked well. We emailed back and forth a lot. Some things we decided against, and one or two others we decided to put off for the future because of our budget constraints. Maureen did re-work our initial plan, because we couldn't spend what it required. Maureen will work with the budget you've got, and I'm sure would be happy to be given free rein on plant choices, if you don't have the time or inclination for that! Once we approved Maureen's plan and estimate, the work began. It happened in stages. First, a small crew came and tore out some small bushes, and completely tore out our icky grass. Nothing but dirt left. Then, Maureen came with two men and put in the tree, shrubs, and perennials. She also split some of my existing hostas and used them. We'd had some purple "sage" (it's really a variety of salvia, Maureen told us) and that was saved and transplanted to fit in with the scheme. Last, another week after that, another crew came in and put in the sod and mulch around the plantings. Fertilizer and plant food was put in as well. Maureen kept in touch with me the whole time, letting me know what to expect when. Finally, Maureen made another visit, took more photos, and gave me the tags that came on the plants from the nursery on a nice handy ring, plus printed, every-step-of-the-way instructions on watering the sod. I know that I can call Maureen whenever I have questions about anything, either now in these next few months or for years to come. Along with our handyman and plumber, she's on the permanent roster! It became very apparent to me, as we went through this process, that Maureen not only has loads of experience and knowledge about what she does, but loves it too. We are now the proud and happy owners of a beautiful front lawn and garden - everything but boring, and the certainly best for blocks around! As with many things, it's a work in progress. Maureen left me with plenty of ideas for other parts of our yard, and I have room to play with annuals every year, if I so choose. The new plantings stand on their own and don't need any help, but I know we will add more in the years to come. Maureen will be the first and only person we call!
Description of Work: Maureen Taylor came up with a plan and design to re-landscape our small, city-size front yard, and the two urns at the front of our three-flat building. She and her crew installed a tree, bush, and perennial plants directly in front of our building, and also put in new sod.

Our back yard was a mess -- my daughter was killing plants by bouncing a basketball off the garage wall, so we wanted a lanscape that could handle her outdoor play and also be used functionally as an outdoor living space. AND, gardening is my big hobby! I just couldn't get a handle on how to pull everything together and make it all work. Maureen is very friendly -- came in and we discussed our needs and what I wanted to preseserve and what could go. I felt like she listended to what I wanted and didn't try to force her preferences on me. I knew we didn't have the money to do everything all at once and this was going to be a two-year process. She took numerous notes and photos and within a week came back with some options for hardscaping a paver patio that could double as a basketball court. Once we finalized shape and size together, she drew up a design for the yard with a list of suggested plantings. In 2010, we did the hardscaping and installed sod. This year, we added the major plantings -- bushes and perennials. When I e-mailed her this spring; she told me where to go to get the plants and her professional discount. I wandered around that nursery for an afternoon and came back with a list of plants I wanted. Some of my choices were not on her original design. We discussed the pros and cons of each plant. She placed the order and arranged for plant delivery and a two-man work crew to spend a day with me getting it all planted. The finished yard is just phenomenol -- I am so happy with it! It's really my pride and joy!!! This was something I never could have done on my own.
Description of Work: Maureen came in and provided a landscape design for our back yard including suggested plants; she came up with great ideas and pulled it all together -- also finding sources to install hardscaping and plants.
We called Maureen in March to give us a quote on a backyard refresh given the awful state of our backyard. She was responsive and very friendly. She came over as soon as it was convenient for us to understand what we wanted from a landscape perspective. We had a few conversations in person and over email, at which time, she submitted a proposal. Given our budget was a bit lower than what we aspired to do, Maureen was happy to work with us to get us what we needed for this summer, understanding that we can always go back and have additional landscaping put in. I should mention that we also had another landscaping company give us a quote for the same services and they were over DOUBLE what Maureen bid. And they were not willing to work with us. She worked with her workers to bring the budget more in line with what we could afford, and we couldn't be happier with the end product. We now have a beautiful walkway, a safe entryway, a lovely landscape and 2 new adorable trees. We will be working with Maureen in the future, for sure.
Description of Work: Maureen and her team replaced our brick walkway, the gate to the alley, refreshed our lawn and planted two trees.
