Took me over a month to get an estimate as every time I called, they acted as if they had never heard from me and took my information over and over. I had to call at least 4 times just to get the estimate, several calls to get an update on the estimate even after they called me to confirm that they would be sending someone to look at my roof and provide an estimate. Even after all of this trouble, I still decided to use them as their estimate was the most thorough and complete. However, my experience with them and their lack of responsiveness continued even after I sent a signed contract and my downpayment for the work to be completed. It took almost a month for them to schedule and finish the repairs to my roof. Again, it took several calls and emails to get them to schedule. In all fairness, I have a steep pitch to my roof and one time the work was scheduled, there were high winds and it would have been dangerous to be on the roof. I would never want to put someone in a dangerous situation. That said, the next time the work was scheduled, the roofer showed up at 1:30pm in the afternoon and told me that he didn't have enough time to finish that day and would like to come back the next day (he didn't). I was then told that they would show up two days later, only to be told that the foreman had a personal conflict and they would need to reschedule again. It took several more days, and a couple more emails to get the work scheduled again and this time they finally completed the work. It took less than 3 hours, and included installing some flashing around my chimney that was not included in the original estimate.
Description of Work: I needed repairs to my roof after several shingles were lost in recent high winds.

Hello [Member Name Removed], We do apologize that our communications with you were so bad. And the amount of time you waited from beginning to end was that long. The high winds we experienced in April flooded us with damage repair requests we just could not keep up with. Sincerely, Larry Tansey

We asked Tans Roofing to evaluate. After coming out to examine the roof, Tans contracted for time and material work with a $825 minimum. They found the problem within two hours. The water infiltration related to some problems with joints and wall for siding installed in 1987. The problem areas were addressed promptly and professionally. The costs were higher-than-expected, although the original estimate was done when the nature of the problem was unknown. After two months and many rainstorms, by all appearances the correct problem was determined and resolved. No more leaks.
Description of Work: We had an intermittent relatively small water leak into the inside front porch. It seemed like leaks only occurred when rain came from a specific wind driven angle. A complete tear-off new roof in 2013 (necessary for other reasons) did not address the leak. A contractor was later called out to determine the cause and remedy, advised that the problem was not apparent and the remedy would probably be too costly. A similar problem at the opposite end of our home many years ago turned out to be related to the area where an external porch wall adjoins the roof.

Tans was already familiar with my house, having referenced the pictures from a prior job. They sent two guys for a day of work. The workers brought extra-long ladders and were not put off by the unusual height of our roof. The workers methodically inspected each wooden surface that connected to our stucco or abutted a roof area. They then did necessary repairs as needed, and also cleaned all gutters and downspouts. The work took about five hours and I was billed for time and materials, as promised. The workers left no mess and were careful about where they set their ladders, without sacrificing thoroughness or in any way compromising their workmanlike attention to details. We were provided before and after pictures of the work (which is too high off the ground to see well from the ground) and an explanation of how the remediation was done. We are now squirrel-free, knock on (repaired) wood. Tans is a family operation, and they are easy to do business with. They are honest and keep their promises.
Description of Work: After using Tans to repair a chronically leaking flat roof section of our old, three-story house, I asked if they could help with a squirrel problem. The critters had chewed through some of the wood near a third floor roof line, and way higher than most contractors are willing to go. In addition to the exterior damage, the squirrels were running in my attic, where the opportunity for mischief and serious damage was greater. Finding guys to address these problems is not easy - pest control guys don't typically have the ladders or skills to address a problem like this, so I turned to a roofer, with some desperation.

The estimator Roger came out to take a look in fall 2016. He seemed very nice. They provided a fixed estimate. We could not identify the cause of the leak i.e., from plumbing or roof. We observed and noticed that it leaks only when it rains so we narrowed the source of the leak to be the roof. In addition, we cut a hole in the ceiling and saw a soil stack pipe making an elbow which made us believe that the leak is probably from the soil stack. During the investigation process, if I had a question about the roof, I would email them and someone from their team would respond very quickly to my questions. Their responses helped us brainstorm various possibilities and narrow the source of the leak and the possible repairs. This was very helpful. We tried scheduling the repair and at that time the cost of repair was changed from a fixed cost to a variable one depending on hours of labor. Larry mentioned that this was because it was a roof with layers and it is difficult to estimate the precise time. I felt that made sense. I felt no pressure to change the roof though it was recommended. I run my business for the long-term and prefer to deal with the businesses which are run for the long-term. All long-term oriented businesses are customer oriented because businesses cease to exist if they don't have customers. I can say that Tans Quality Roofing, Larry, and his crew are very customer oriented and a pleasure to work with. Scheduling took some time because of weather and that they get busy. The repair staff was very cordial and easy to speak with. They worked for a few hours. I got the pictures post repair and a bill where they decided not to charge me the minimum $ contracted because they worked fewer hours than expected. I was surprised -- positively. My entire interaction was professional and I loved it that they use emails respond quickly. I would highly recommend Tan's quality roofing to friends and family and plan to use them again for my future roofing needs.

Completed the job in 3 days and sent details photos of the process. They scheduled a visit for a month after service to double check their work. The roof looks beautiful!

They came out to change three downspouts on a two flat and all three leaked when we had the first rain after install. I contacted them to fix and they came out a couple of days later and fixed two of them and they are ok now. The third one still leaks and I have called and sent e-mails to get them out to fix. They did response to my e-mails saying they would see what they could do, but nothing ever happened. The workers that came out were friendly but the quality of the work is not good. Had they come out to fix the last one, I would not have written this review. I am all for giving companies a chance to fix any issues, but they did not respond to my last request. I even sent them pictures showing the issue.

Something (animal, blue ice, etc) caused damage to my relatively new roof. House is under contract and the sales process was underway. Inspector and buyer spotted the previously unseen damage. Storms were on the way and I needed a repair fast. I called TQR after checking Angie's List. They were great. Had an estimator out the same day, Communications with the office both by telephone and email were fast. Contract was signed electronically on a Friday, 50% deposit charged and the guys were there on Monday at 8 A.M. Well before the line of storms that arrived on Tuesday. They left me (and the buyers) extra shingles, took pictures of the before and after, inspected the rest of the roof, AND cleaned the gutters. Count me as delighted with the quality of the work done, speed at which the paperwork was processed, and their timely return of calls. Can't ask for more!!!

I would highly recommend working with Tans' Quality Roofing. They were responsive from the first Angie's List contact via phone and emails. They asked about the problem and sent an estimator out to quote the job with in the first few days. Larry Tansey did a lot of the communication, but his staff was just as responsive. The initial quote for the gutter replacement came back including replacing the roof as well (because it needs to be replaced) but they had no problem scaling back the job to just replacing the gutter and facia. This did not effect the quality or responsiveness when the value of the job went down several thousand dollars. Once we got the estimate finalized and a deposit was paid, they scheduled time right away on a date that was convenient for me. Every question was responded to within 24 hours, most a few hours after emailing. On the day the crew came to my house, it was raining lightly in the morning, but they showed up on time and got right to work. Danny's crew was very courteous, hard working, and they did an amazing job assessing what needed to be done. They removed the old gutter, rotten wood and old downspout carefully. They replaced the fascia behind all of the gutters they removed, added new "sistered" rafter tails and put up a new gutter and downspout, tying the new downspout into the existing drain pipe. They photographed everything as they assessed and replaced what needed to be replaced for review once the job was done. This was a great way to feel at ease that the job was done right. They also added a waterproof membrane under the last course of old shingles to cover the new wood to help keep more water damage from happening until we have the entire roof replaced. This never appeared on the final bill. The crew showed up at 8:30 and was done by just before 5pm and did a great job picking up and putting things back to the way they found them. They hauled away all materials, didn't leave any packaging or wrappers, nails or anything at all. I was told in our conversations leading up to the job that they were not sure what they were going to find once they started removing things, but that they would repair what needed to be repaired and additional labor and materials may be added to the cost of the job. The final quote before the job was for the fascia and the gutter, but not the rafter tails, so this was added on to the final bill. Larry provided all the photos and outlined in detail the additional hours that were worked after the job was complete. He discounted the labor costs for the additional work (significantly lower than the rate indicated for overages on the estimate) without being asked. The total ended up being an additional 20% on top of original estimate which was very reasonable given the additional work done to each rafter tail. All in all, it was an excellent experience. I was nervous about the job and worked from home that day so the crew could have access to the house, ask questions or whatever, but this really wasn't necessary at all. Very professional job.

We used Tans' Quality Roofing based on the excellent Angie's List reviews (and a friend recommendation). We were not at all disappointed in the quality and customer service. From the initial contact through the final billing, Tans' was thoroughly professional, responsive, and efficient. The inspector came out, did quick work, and provided photos of the roof so we could see the extent of the damage. They also sent pics after the repair, which is nice (since roof access is very difficult for us). We were pleased by the overall experience, and have had no follow-on issues. The only issue we had was with the responsiveness in scheduling and receiving paperwork. This is a busy company! It took a full week from the date of inspection to the receipt of an estimate; three weeks from contracting to get a repair crew over; and another week for the final billing. In fairness, some of the delay in scheduling was caused by generally poor weather slowing down other jobs, and ours was a small one. I don't at all hold it against the company, and would recommend them without hesitation. But, be prepared to wait for quality.

The workers arrived much later than expected, but that was due to it having rained the day before and they needed to catch up on their work. So no harm no foul there. My only issue was that I needed to reach out to discover why they were running late, instead of being given notice. Besides that, they did a great job and our fascia looks wonderful. This was no small task as our building is three stories high and has a very steep roof. Other roofers wanted almost twice what TQR did it for. They also did some small maintenance work on the roof free of charge. Will definitely hire again.

The workers were polite, respectful, and tidy. I especially appreciated their help because it was a small job in a very busy season for roofers here in Chicago. Other roofers refused the job or just didn’t return my call; one tried to cheat me by claiming the roof needed to be torn off and completely replaced at a cost of over $50,000, even though the membrane is warrantied through 2018. Another complexity was that my neighbor, who shares the roof, did not cooperate at first, as they had no leaks right now on their side. TQR worked with me very diplomatically to get them to understand and comply at last. TQR was honest and very responsible in all ways. When it is time to replace the roof in a couple years, I will definitely use TQR.

I received an estimate from this company. I did not hire them for work. They were responsive in creating an estimate and responding to requests for changes to the estimate and to questions about the estimate. The estimate was quite a bit higher that two others I received for this job. That was part of the reason that I did not go with them. But, they also proposed doing something that I did not think was wise given the current state of the house. What they proposed was cutting the roof decking and adding a vent system near the gutter line. Since the attic is finished and there is insulation attached to the underside of the decking, it did not seem wise to attempt this procedure. I just wondered about their judgement. Even after excluding this procedure the estimate was pretty high in comparison.
