I called Tan's on a Friday night at about 8:30p, thinking I'd leave a message. To my surprise, owner Paul Tansey answered the phone. He suggested I e-mail the details of what I was looking for, which I did. Monday morning, his associate arrived to inspect the roof. He was quick, respectful, and informative. I appreciated that he took digital pictures and was able to show me the problem areas on his portable computer. Later that day, Paul phoned with an estimate and also sent one via e-mail. Of the 4 companies I contacted, he is the only one to arrive in a timely manner (speedy, even.) At present, I am waiting on the insurance company to send an adjuster, but so far, this company has been a pleasure.

They were quick and were polite! They were cheaper than other offers. And, we have had no problems since despite all the recent record-breaking storms. We were very satisfied.

Tan's estimate was 3 times higher than the other two roofing estimates I received. They pointed out multiple issues as needing urgent attention while the other companies said that those areas were fine and only required minimal work and preventative attention. With two other highly-rated roofing companies stating that the work required was minor and mostly preventative in nature, Tan's estimate seemed unnecessarily high.

They're prompt, courteous and they're knowledgeable. Basically they do the work.

I had a very good experience with Tan's. I received a quote very quickly and Paul had no problem answering all my questions and clarifying what different terms meant. He clearly communicated when they could do the work (there were x number of roofs ahead of me and work was weather dependent). The team was very efficient and was very tidy during their time at my home. Roof looks great.

Very prompt and responsive on the phone, but in person, the workers didn't know what the owner had talked about and vice-versa.

I do want to point out that unlike another contractor I spoke with, he was all about asking me questions to help me determine if I even needed a new roof or a repair could be done. It's pretty rare to find that type of willingness to help a prospective customer make a good choice even if it means you don't get the work

Paul Tansey had his partner Tim Reardon set up an appointment. It was raining that day so Tim called to reschedule for the next day. Tim was waiting for me when I met with him. My gutter is falling down and needs new fascia installed. Tim said is was an easy job and since it was in such bad shape that he would get me on their schedule as soon as possible. Tim said they would get back to me in a couple of days. In the mean time I had a contractor, whom I have used in the past, come by for an estimate to install two basement windows. While I had him there I asked for a quote for the gutter job. He would do the windows and gutter repair for $400 dollars. Tan's quote for the gutter was $1900 dollars.

Tan's was great. They were able to do the work without me even being there. Afterward they called to mention they found some areas that needed to be caulked to prevent possible leaking on another area of the flat roof. A couple of days later I came home to find them fixing the problem. They did all this without additional cost. They even sent us a thank you note upon completion of the job.

Of the 4 companies I got estimates from, Tan's had the most competitive price - but I would have gone with them even if they had been a little higher, given what a good feeling I had from the estimator and owner. The estimator got up on the roof for the estimate (none others did) and took digital photos to show me. I knew nothing about roofs, and he was patient and answered all my questions. I felt confident that whatever they uncovered (I had just purchased my home) they could handle it, and would be fair and honest. They discovered a LOT of rotten decking, which lead to an increase in the cost (a possibility clearly spelled out in the contract), and the owner, Paul, contacted me immediately. It was hard to tell who felt worse, Paul or I, about the extra costs. I appreciated that he treated me like a human being, not just "a job." I had complete confidence in this company and crew. They did excellent work and they guarantee their work longer than any of the others I contacted.

We called Tan's for a quote on a small patch job on our roof. Their overall responsiveness - especially for such a small job - was impressive. Someone was there the day after we submitted the online form and we had a quote the following day. We ended up going with a different service this time, but will keep Tan's at the top of our list for future projects.

Superb. Quality workers, were conscientious, and had a responsive owner. Best of five estimates, but the work did not suffer. Always on time, protected our property, and the houses on either side of us from damage or debris. Cleaned up so thoroughly that you wouldn't have known they had been there if it weren't for our beautiful new roof.

I am very pleased with the work done by Tan's Roofing. Paul returned my call promptly and had an opening to do the work the same week we spoke. The price quoted was the best I found for the work done. The guarantee provided by Tan s Roofing was longer than his competitors. The workers showed up on time. They were very polite and answered all my questions. They worked hard all day and cleaned up at end of the day. I was VERY pleased with the clean up. There were very, very few small pieces for me to take care of. I highly recommend you call them for a quote. I love my new roof and I'm very happy I found them on Angie's List.

This is to document that this business does not service south of Cermak or the ''south side'' of Chicago (whatever that really means). Even though my home is 5 minutes south of Cermak it was out of area. According to Mr. Tansey, he is a ''northside'' company. Since this is not the first Angie's list vendor that I have come across that discriminates against the ''southside'', I would appreciate it if Angie's list would be more descriptive about service areas in their monthly book and on the website so that I don't waste so much time. So the answer to whether I would hire this company becomes moot -- this company does not want ''southside'' business.

Dan, the roofer called to tell me when he would be there; showed up exactly on time both times, analyzed the problem and explained how he would fix it. Very professional, clean and polite. I would definitely call them again and I have already recommended this company to my neighbor. It was worth joining Angie's list just to find this company!

Paul was great to work with. He returned calls quickly and provided a fast estimate that was cheaper than all the other estimates we had gotten. The work we got delayed due to weather, but Paul made sure they fit us in the first day it didn't rain. The roofers were great. They did all the work while we were at work and cleaned up so well that I couldn't even tell they had been here.

We met Paul. What a caring and laid-back individual. He and his assistant inspected it from top to bottom. He was up there forever. He came down to report that he was sending someone over to temporarily fix the leaking and when we were ready, we needed to do the job correctly and completely. His pricing was right in line with three other roofers and he did not charge "extra" for the little things they sometimes find as they do the project. The job was finished on time and professionally. We have not had a bit of a leak since! We had him do our garage roof as well given his initial results, and that project also gets an A+. Needless to say, when it came time to put a new roof on an investment property of ours, it did not take too long for the 4 owners of the units to determine which company was going to get the job. Kudos to Tan's Quality Roofing - and his staff as well.!!

I had specifically asked for an inspection to determine if there was any hail damage from a recent storm. I was promised an emailed response (which I could forward to my insurance company) within a week. Days later, I did get an email, but all it contained was images of my roof. About a week later, I got a written estimate via snail mail to replace my roof, but there was no reference to hail damage apparent or not. I followed up with a call to the owner, reminding him of my original request. He promised to respond that day; it arrived about 24 hours later. I eventually got what I had requested, just not as originally negotiated.

EXCELLENT WORK! I think we were one of the largest jobs they had ever done, but they did a great job. Paul was great about communicating as the job went on (it was expected to take 2 weeks, but stretched to nearly 4 due to bad weather). These guys even worked on the 4th of July because they wanted to get the job done for us. I think the reason Paul can work so quickly is because he has a small group of suppliers that he knows well and that stock the items his customers like. We were surprised how quickly he was able to get the siding, shingles and other materials we selected. We were generally fine with most of the items he had available, although we wanted very specific storm doors, so we bought them ourselves. The carpenter had to struggle with them because he wasn't used to that brand, but he did a fine job with the installation. They did a great job of cleanup and were very friendly. I have recommended them to others and would definitely hire them again.

This is a very professionally run company. From prompt, honest explanations to reasonable estimates, it was a smooth process. The owner, Paul Tansey, talks you through the problem then explains what his workers are going to do to resolve it. The work was done within 2 weeks of sending the deposit, but probably would have been sooner was it not for 5 days of rain. I highly recommend use of this company for any & all roofing needs.

Did you ever get a thank you note from a roofer? These guys were fast, responsive and did a nice job in record time. On top of that they were pleasant and easy to work with. From a roofer that's a miracle. I recommend.
