Everything was fine. You can tell this is a small company, so they are really easy to work with. I don't know what a roof patch is "supposed" to cost, but $490.00 sounded fair to me. I won't really know how good of a job they did until the next time it rains, but they were very upfront that this is only a patch and I need a new roof. They were running late but I had spoken to them about it the previous day, and told them I was flexible, so I wouldn't hold it against them.
Description of Work: My roof was leaking. They patched the roof and reattached the siding where it had pulled away from the house.

They responded to our initial call right away. They offered to show us the different colors that they offer. They got to the project reasonably soon and got it done. The price was average for the job. After a year, the veneer is pulling away from the core. We gave them a few calls. They did finally come to our house. We are waiting for someone to make a decision on what our options are in getting this resolved.
Description of Work: We had them build a deck on top of our garage. They used a composite material.

I called 3 Angie's List contractors regarding siding for our house. Paul from Tan's came out to the house to, I thought, give me an estimate. However, he told me he was a roofing guy and was just there to take measurements since the estimator was too busy. After taking measurements, he told me to call the office in a few days and bug them for the estimate if I hadn't heard from them by then. That sent up a red flag, since I could only imagine how responsive they'd be if I hired them. That was 9 days ago and I still have heard nothing. No matter, I found someone else I liked.

It's really irritating to drive all the way home during a work day and hang out with an estimator and never receive the estimate. I called to follow up and the owner told me how busy they have been. He remembered us and promised to get the estimate to me immediately. Never arrived. Their loss, estimates from other roofers are coming in around 20K. Don't call these guys, they are too busy to do your roof.

A CONTRACT WAS CREATED AND SENT TO THIS CUSTOMER, ON AUGUST 20TH. IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THEY RECEIVED THE PROPOSAL. WE WERE BUSY AT THAT TIME, BUT WE WERE NOT ARROGANT ABOUT NOT WANTING HIS WORK LIKE HE MENTIONS IN HIS REVIEW OF US. WE DID WAIT TO GET THE BEST PRICING FOR HIS SKYLIGHTS, WHICH MIGHT HAVE TAKEN A LITTLE LONGER. WE HAVE APOLOGIZED TO HIM, AND EVEN RE-SENT HIS PROPOSAL BACK TO HIM, TO SHOW IT WAS SENT 8 DAYS BEFORE THIS "F" RATING, AND TERRIBLE REVIEW OF US. WE HOPE THEY RECONSIDER THEIR OPINION OF US, AND REVIEW THE CONTRACT PROPOSAL WE SENT. WE HAVE HAD A BUSY SUMMER, AND WE APPRECIATE ANY PATIENCE THAT CAN BE GIVEN TO US. LARRY TANSEY

I thought they did a good job. The job was done in a reasonable time. They worked hard all day. The workers were friendly and they cleaned up after themselves. I would recommend them to other people.

Everyone I spoke with was very nice and professional, but besides that, it was a complete screw-up! I called and they told me to e-mail my request with my address, which I did. I got an e-mail in response asking me for my address! I forwarded my original e-mail to them which included address and description of work to be done. They called me to schedule an appraisal and their representative came out at the assigned time on a Saturday, but when he arrived he informed me he was the roof estimator and therefore the wrong person to do this estimate! He told me he would take some pictures and have the right person contact me. The "right person" finally did, about 2 weeks later, at which time I politely informed him that I had hired another firm and that maybe they were too busy and disorganized. I wasted a lot of time with these people and would definitely not recommend them, although their work may be just fine once they get their act together. Approximate cost for estimate: $15,000.

Overall, Tans did a very nice job on our roof. We were generally satisfied with the final product. The had a large crew that appeared to work hard and fast. Some details were overlooked that we had to stay on top of, otherwise they would not have been taken care of properly. The estimate was higher than quoted only because there was no way to tell how much rotting had occurred to decking below. There ended up being quite a bit of area that had to be replaced with new plywood decking. They completed the job in 2 days and did a nice job overall of cleaning up. A few months later, a piece of flashing came loose in a storm and they fairly promptly came and fixed it for us free of charge. We did feel like neither Tans nor any other roofing company that we received quotes from gave us a good explanation or solution for how to best and adequately vent. We have a 1.5 story house with a finished attic upstairs. They used the modified granulated bitumen membrane to flash the chimney instead of the usual flashing. So far, no problems, but we will see how it goes over the years. During the job, one of was always home and kept an eye on things. Some details were overlooked that we had to be on top of with them, but they were very responsive. For example, we were overcharged for number of sheets of plywood. When we questioned them, they reviewed the pictures and happily adjusted it to the correct, lower number.
Description of Work: Complete tear-off of house roof, rear and front porch and replacement with architectural shingles. Some decking needed to be replaced. They also replaced all downspouts and gutters. They replaced old lead soil flashings with new, flashed the chimney with modified granulated bitumen membrane and sealed with Solar Seal Brand Caulking compound. A ridge vent was installed and as well as the outside portion of a bathroom vent that we asked them to install.

After the initial phone call, Paul came out to our house to inspect everything and take measurements as well as digital pictures. He did a very thorough inspection and I had a very good impression. Paul pointed out me to a few things that they would fix that not every other contractor might do and explained how they would do things that again is a little different than most other companies do. He also pointed out that TQR provides a 10 year warranty on their work where most other contractors only give 3 to 5 year warranties and that they would use high quality shingles. This all sounded great and made perfect sense. Once I got the proposal via email, I could see everything that they would do in great detail. I did some research on the shingles that they proposed and they were some of the better quality shingles available from CertainTeed. The proposal definitely looked great and we would've used them but at the time we were a little short on cash and had to save the extra dollars. I would definitely use them in the future and can highly recommend them from what we've experienced and seen.
Description of Work: No services were performed as we only got an estimate from TQR, but then decided to use a different company. We requested a proposal to replace the roof and gutters of our one story, single-family ranch style house. The initial proposal came out to 10,790.00 which was about 4,000 higher then the proposal of another contractor. They then revised the proposal and came back with 9,790.00 as the final proposal. This was still a lot higher than the competitors proposal and so we decided to not to use their services. I'm sure that they would've performed an excellent job.

Got a good decent quote from Paul and Larry who were helpful. They asked for a deposit to hold a date several weeks out. When the week of the job arrived, I called to confirm and was told thier supplier could not get them the skylights in time for the job. The job was then pushed several more weeks out. I was unsure in I would have gotten a call informing me of this had I not called, but gave the benefit of the doubt. At the contract signing I inquired about work to the interior of the home and was assured by Larry that no work would be necessary inside and the house would look the same as before they started. They finished the job in a single day and cleaned up well outside. Upon further inspection after they left, we noticed the workers had removed the deocrative modling abutting the skylights and discarded them, leaving unsightly drywall damage and old paint lines. In each skylight bay there were also decent sized cracks in the drywall and silver dollar sized sections of drywall missing. When I called Larry he stated that since his workers did no actual work inside the home his company could not be responsible for the damage. He said the trim was likely discarded because of found water damage when they were removed, but that was an assumption on his part, and the exposed drywall shows no such water damage. I got an apology for the misunderstanding, but that doesn't pay for the extra work that now needs to be done on my home. While the work is cosmetic, since the skylights are in an atrium the cost of reaching them to do the repairs will be significant. In all Larry and Paul seemed like decent enough guys, but their work was incomplete at best and left me with even more house repair bills. In the end, they know way they leave the customer feeling is how good of a job they did. I was left with a bad taste in my mouth.

We were very happy with the people working for them. The price listed is what it cost to replace the 2 vents. They were very respectful of the church.

The workers showed up unannounced. I have used this company before and the same thing happened. They begin putting their ladders up and do not notify you with a doorbell or knock on the door. It wasn't that big of a deal because I had a feeling they would be doing the work that day due to the rain the day before. The head guy, Greg, was fantastic. We have water problems in our lower level and he came in to see what was going on. He inspected the areas outside for possible openings in the foundation/mortar, but saw nothing. He was very helpful, professional and knowledgeable. He pointed out that we would need all new parapet walls within the next 2 years since the building is over 100 years old. I did open one of the windows to check the caulking and it was done very sloppily. I pointed it out to one of the men and they immediately sent up 2 guys to smooth it out. I just hope all of the caulking was done right and smoothed out over the rest of the building because that was the only window I had access to. I have used Tan's twice in the past. The guys in the office are good, but you have to stay on top of them. Everyone is professional and they get the job done in a timely manner. They cleaned up after they were done even looking through the grass for debris.

Skylight sash was rotting and leaking, causing drywall damage. There was also leakage from the chimney causing some drywall damage and an occasional dripping sound from water hitting the firebox. TQR was very responsive and inspected the skylight and roof and estimated the job for $1390. This was below other quotes from equally rated Angie's list contractors. They scheduled the work for a Monday but called the Thursday before to ask if the next day (Friday) would be OK for us. It was, they did the job on Friday. The skylight replacement went easy, they were able to get a direct replacement that fitted great. The chimney had three leak issues as opposed to the two that they had anticipated. The extra work cost me an extra $400, but I feel this was a fair price, considering the work involved. The crew spent much more time on the chimney repair than the skylight replacement. They started work promptly at 8am and continued until they completed the job around 8pm. This included a break around 4pm for a thunderstorm, that hardly slowed them down. They were committed to getting the job done that day and I appreciate that they did stay late to complete the work. Although it ended up costing more than originally estimated, I thought it was fair and that they performed good work.

Great job. The Tans prefer email contact to organize a job. Paul came out to check my roof and was very clear that prior repair work had been done in an inadequate way and that we needed a new roof. I learned more about roofs than I ever knew, and after the job was complete, Paul, my husband and I went up on the roof so we could see what was done. The work was begun when they said and there was a lot of communication about the materials to be used. Given the pitch of our roof, we needed a 4" reveal instead of a typical 5" reveal so that it doesn't leak. Paul seemed very knowledgeable. Any modifications to their original proposal were communicated so that we were all on the same page. They were very responsive. It was a pleasure doing business with them. The work looks great. Time will tell its effectiveness.

We contacted Tan's Quality Roofing for an estimate on a roofing tear-off and replacement job. Paul Tansey came to the site and showed us shingle samples and described what needed to be done. A detailed estimate was e-mailed to us. Of three companies I received estimates from, Tan's was the only one to send someone over to speak with us in person. The estimated start date for the job given, when we signed the contract, turned out correct as the weather cooperated. The crew from Tan's showed up on-time and soon after setting up, removed several layers of old roofing material. New plywood decking was installed followed by underlay and asphalt architectural shingles. New flashing was installed around stack vents, chimney, etc. All debris was removed in a dumpster that was delivered at the beginning of the job and promptly removed at the end. The crew worked efficiently and did a very good job of leaving the area clean and protecting the neighboring houses. The roofing replacement job took two days. The roofing job looks good and we have had no problems, even after some heavy rains. We would use this company again and do recommend them.

We called Tan's to schedule an estimate for a new roof and gutters. Although a live person answered the phone, he insisted that I go to the website and fill out a contact information form so that someone can call me to schedule an appointment for an estimate. Tan's sent someone out for a look at our roof on 7/7/08. As of 7/25/08 we had not received the estimate so we called the company to see what the hold up was and after apologies and explanations that they were overloaded, they assured us that we would receive the paperwork this past Monday 7/28/08. As of yet, we have not heard back. Needless to say, we are going with one of the other two companies we contacted. Very disappointing because Tan's has received rave reviews from other Angie's members.

The estimator came out and was professional and courteous. He promptly submitted a quote and gave us photos of the terrible condition our chimney was in. We signed the contract ASAP and got on the schedule for the following Saturday. We had an issue with Paul, calling the night before the scheduled job to cancel claiming poor weather was expected. We also had an issue with Paul trying to charge additional (time and a half) due to the Saturday scheduling. The long and short of it was, Tans was back logged with jobs due to weeks of rain wreaking havoc on their schedules. In the end, the weather was clear, they honored their commitment, they did a nice job and I would use them again in the future. His brother Larry was so nice and willing to accommodate me with the photos after the work was complete.
Description of Work: We needed to have our old chimney torn down and rebuilt, gutters cleaned, additional caulking where needed. This was a several hour job completed by two men, one ladder and a lot of muscle. They removed all debris from the site.

They did a great job and it wasn't an easy one. I specifically chose them because they do weekly jobs removing and replacing decks on flat roofs. The deck on top of the 2nd floor roof was attached really well and they were very careful at how they removed it. They were clean and respectful of plants and the landscaping below. They arrived promptly and stayed until the job was complete -- 9 pm that night. Also, they rang my bell when they left and told me that if I noticed any problems with how they put the deck back on, I should call them immediately and they would come right back. We have a screen door that leads to the deck and they were careful to get it just right in the door frame as they had to remove it when they removed the deck. Overall I was impressed with their detail to the job and willingness to see the job through that day.
Description of Work: Replaced a 12'X12' 2nd floor flat roof with a deck on top of it. The took the deck off and replaced the roof that was leaking. They also rebuilt the deck with some of the existing deck parts and new wood (because certain pieces were rotted).
