We have had mysterious leaks in our condo building from a garage roof and front porch. They replaced a front porch/balcony flooring, but this did not fix the leak. They did work on the garage roof/deck floor, but this did not fix the leak. They did not guarantee that the work would address the problem(our mistake). We are out $9000 and still have the same issues. We will not use the company again. The workers were friendly and professional, but the overall result, lack of guarantee and price(expensive)are enough to keep us from using this company again.
Description of Work: They replaced decking on a front balcony and back deck(above a garage)both to fix leaking(unsuccessful). They also repaired the roof from leaking(this was successful).

The work was done on schedule. Extremely satisfied. Price was very fair. High quality work.
Description of Work: Category: Masonry Tuckpointing. They did tuckpointing of one full masonry wall of our home. Below is the extremely clear work order: 1. Tarp off all work areas prior to work, windows and doors will be taped as necessary, support porch structure to allow for work to be performed between building and porch; 2. Grind out all existing mortar points on East Facade of Coach house, approximately 930 square feet; 3. Clean out all dust and debris from all exposed joints; 4. Install New common bricks in missing places, and replace any damaged/deteriorated bricks with New Common brick, applying Mortar, and setting back in position; 5. Rebuild fallen arches, by removing and resetting rows above arches; 6. Adjust mortar mix color to match existing, apply with correct size points, filling each open joint; 7. Wipe all fresh tuck pointed areas clean before drying; 8. Remove all support bracings used to separate building and porch, refasten porch with anchors, as needed; 9. Clean up and haul away, all debris caused by the above-mentioned work.

During the recent torrential rain we had water leaking into the basement. Tan's was able to find a hole in our flat roof other contractors couldn't and help us fix it. They estimated the job would cost $1690 and came in right on budget. Overall I was impressed by their level of knowledge and determination to do the job right. Unfortunately scheduling mix-ups meant a good portion of the job was done in the dark and that caused some problems. They were supposed to arrive at 8 am but by 9:30 no one had arrived or called. I called and was told there was an unexpected job that morning and the workers would arrive by noon. At 1 pm no one had showed up and I called again to see what was happening. Again they said the workers were on their way. At 1:30 the crew showed up in front of the house, but then sat down on the parkway and had lunch and took a bit of a rest. Finally, at 2:30 pm they knocked on the door ready to start. I was really impressed by the way they attacked the job, but the last 1.5 hours they worked in the dark. While they did use some lights it was tough to see. The net result was I wasn't totally sure they had taken care of all the problems they might have if it was still light out. I am certain though the lack of light led to a shoddy clean up effort. Nails and debris were left lying around. Despite these problems, I would use them again, but I would also make sure any and all work was done in the daylight.
Description of Work: Tans is a quality operation and were able to fix a leaking roof when most other contractors (including some on Angie's) told us we had to replace the whole roof. Their workers knew what they were doing but a scheduling problem meant much of the work was done in the dark and that led to some problems. In their defense, this work was done after our recent weekend of 10" rains and they were clearly backed up but I still wasn't totally pleased.

While they didn't have the lowest bid, but they did have the most detailed quote, made me feel the most secure in their abilities and in their workers, so we chose them. The work took a little longer than planned, but that was due to some additional damage that they found as the work progressed. The crew they sent over was very friendly and hard working. The head of the crew was great in that he always explained everything and ensured that we were getting exactly what we wanted. They were all Spanish speakers, which was great since we are as well. This might be a problem for other customers; though they can always call the main office. I found them to be very responsive as well. Overall we had a great experience and have already recommended TQR to some of our neighbors. We have also hired TQR to come back and do some tuck-point work as well.
Description of Work: They completely tore off and replaced roof. Also they replaced and rerouted our gutter system.

I contacted these guys somewhere around the first week of Oct. for an estimate to fix my leaky roof. They weren't able to come take a look at my roof until Oct 20th. After evaluating my leaky roof Paul assured me that I would have an estimate within a week. I still didn't have an estimate as of Oct 31st so I e-mailed them. They responded and said I could expect an estimate by Monday Nov 3rd. I'm yet to receive my estimate. I e-mailed them yesterday to find out what was going on and they have not yet responded.

My experience with the company was very good. Only one hiccup, and that was I took a day off of work to be at the house on the scheduled day of repair and they sent me an email late in the day on proceeding day to let me know that he wasn't going to be able to make the original scheduled date. They worked with me to complete the work that coming weekend, and as promised, on Sunday morning, their worker was present do the job. The job complete, the worker left without notice, but the completed product looked well done, and as soon as the next hard rain hits, I'll be able to tell you how successful they were in fixing my problem. Bottom line, I was very happy with the work, and the people within the company that I dealt with.

The estimator came out and did a detailed survey of all the roofs with pictures. He also suggested other possible areas to be improved to help the weatherproofing of the house. The quote came on time and we went to contract as soon as I was ready. They showed up within 2 weeks to perform the job. They estimated 3-4 days to complete the work and did it in 2 days. The president/owner came to inspect the work as he does on all jobs and brought back a crew to change how the flashing was done as it was not to his satisfaction. This was something I would have never expected. I highly recommend this company was it went much better that any project I have ever had done on this house.

Jim met with us on the day after I originally called Tan's. We met for about 20 minutes and felt informed when he left.
Description of Work: I looked for a category of "waterproofing", because that is why my condo called on Tan's. Jim came out and explained why we DIDN'T need his company. He explained our problem to us, then told us what to do next and who to call. We clarified with him what was what--the condo president and I were very impressed with his knowledge and willingness to help us figure out our problem. He didn't charge us for the evaluation.

Paul came out and immediately looked at my main roof and told me that the roof needed to be replaced. He then looked at the roof that actually has the leak in it. He was unable to locate the leak. This is understandable as the roof leaks only when the wind blows a certain way, and the roof was put on in 2003, so it is relatively new and has no obvious defects in it. He suggested replacing some nails in the flashing with screws and putting in some caulk. One week later, I received an estimate for screws and caulk for $980.00. I also, received an estimate for replacing all the roofs of my home for $9,890.00. (Thank goodness for that Angie's List discount, otherwise it would of been much higher.) Anyhow, another roofer came out and looked at the problem leak. He was able to find a thumb size hole where the siding meets the top of my back window. He didn't want to charge me for the labor involved in caulking it himself, so my husband did the work. Cost $8.00. We can't be sure if this is the problem, but we hope it is. By the way, this other roofer said we don't need a new roof.

They gave me a date for work, it got delayed 1 day by rain, but the hour it was dry and safe, they had a crew out and finished the job in one afternoon. I only wished the foreman had remembered to take pictures of the damaged decking under the shingles and of the repaired work under the shingles. Other than that, they were quick and professional.
Description of Work: I had a bulge in my roof, Tan's was the first company to come out, and give me an estimate. (It was also the best price and all the estimates were for the same scope of work). They took up shingles, removed the damaged decking and put in new materials under the shingles, they replaced the shingles and matched them well.

We requested and estimate from this company. They provided a quote of $12,000 but not a detailed summary of the quote until we requested it in writing 2 weeks later. The written quote was for $16,000. Since this was a larger number than we were prepared to spend we looked around for quotes from other companies. We decided to go with another company basically because we couldn't afford the quote from Tan's. Tan's contacted us about the quote asking if we were going to be using them. My husband explained why we picked the other company. Tan's was upset with us and told us that we should have spoken to them first so they could have explained the prices to us better (not that they would be lower, just explain what they were including). They were not very professional and somewhat rude to my husband because we didn't pick them.

I called TQR for the first time, and Adrian, at the office, said that Paul Canlas, the head estimator, would call me that evening to set up an estimate appointment. Paul never called, but I got a form letter by email saying that he would be in touch "ASAP." I called Paul directly the next morning to arrange an estimate appointment. He said that, essentially, my job was too small for him to bother with, but he would get one of his co-workers to "call me back right away" to set up the appointment. Never heard from anyone. So I called Paul back one last time. He said he'd call Adrian right away at the office, and Adrian would "call me right back" to set something up. Guess what? No call. If TQR is not interested in doing the work in my house, that's fine. But don't make promises to set up appointments you have no intention of keeping. TQR, shame on you.

THIS CUSTOMER FIRST REQUESTED A FREE ESTIMATE FROM US ON 10-14-08, AT 9AM. WE SENT HER A PROPOSAL ON 10-16-08 AT 4PM. I AM STILL AMAZED THAT REPORTS LIKE THIS ARE ALLOWED TO BE POSTED ON ANGIESLIST. I DON'T KNOW WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO BE TAKE CARE OF THIS CUSTOMER, AND IN RETURN WE GET A "SHAME ON YOU". I called Tan's roofing and Paul came out to inspect our roof. We both climbed up and Paul showed me why we needed a full replacement. We have had several leaks which were getting worse so I really wanted to get going. After three e-mails and one follow up phone call complaining about the lack of follow up..NOTHING HAPPENED! The first problem was actually getting them to come out. I scheduled a time for them to come. The first time, they didn't come and when I called, the guy (sorry I forget his name) said he wasn't coming because it was raining. It would have been nice if I didn't have to call him to find that out. We rescheduled and, when he wasn't there by the scheduled time AGAIN, I called. He informed me that he had accidentally overslept. I asked if the call woke him up, and he said yes. I asked if this meant he was not coming and again he said yes. When he called back later that day to come by, I decided to let him come for an estimate. He stunk of B.O. but I guess that's not relevant. When the estimate finally did come in, it was for $400 for very minor work. I ended up having another company do it for 1/4 the cost.

We were able to get the appointment set up and the estimator came out within a day or 2. Unfortunately, I could never get an actual estimate from them. It was during a busy time following the big rainstorms we had in September, but that still didn't excuse why I couldn't get an estimate via mail or email after I called them the following week to follow up. They get strong ratings on Angie's List so I was bit surprised with the lack of professionalism from the company.

Following a month of calls, emails and attempts to get someone out, Paul came to give an estimate on a roof leak. I'd like to say first, that I understand how busy they have been due to the excessive rain we had recently, and that I was more than understanding and forgiving. That said, this was a terrible experience. Following the estimate, I was told that since the company had "dropped the ball" and "misplaced my paperwork"- that I was going to be made top priority and an estimate would be sent within the day. 2 days later, and still no estimate, I called and the office had no record of my case. Within a few hours, Paul, the owner who had been out, called and needed lots of information in order to remember who I was and which roof was mine. Again, I understand-- many roofs, many estimates. I finally reminded him of the roof, and he told me he'd call me right back, but needed to check on something. 2 more days passed, I called the office, they had no record, Paul called, he once again, had no memory of who I was-- I finally was able to explain the roof and job, and was promised an estimate by the end of the day. I was told again and again how sorry they were and that I was being made a priority, and they failed over and over... My understanding wore off. Eventually I was sent a quote. The quote was significantly ($3700) higher than anyone else's. I had 3 estimates done.

WE HAVE BEEN VERY BUSY THE LAST MONTH, AS THIS ANGIE'S LIST MEMBER NOTED. WE APOLOGIZED TO HER FOR THE INCONVENIENCE WE CAUSED HER. WE FOUND OURSELVES WITHOUT 2 KEY TEAM MEMBERS THIS FALL, AND IT HAS AFFECTED SOME OF OUR BUSINESS. THE BIG STORM CHICAGO WENT THROUGH, 3 DAYS OF NON-STOP RAIN, HAD OUR SMALL FAMILY-RUN BUSINESS DELUGED WITH OVER 100 REQUESTS FOR A FREE ESTIMATE. WE HAVE TRIED OUR ABSOLUTE BEST TO HANDLE EVERY REQUEST, WE FEEL TERRIBLE THAT THIS ANGIE'S LIST MEMBER FEELS THIS WAY. WE DID MISPLACE HER ORIGINAL INFORMATION, AND UNFORTUNATELY WERE NOT ABLE TO GIVE HER AN ESTIMATE IN A TIMELY MANNER. I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT WE DO NOT GUARANTEE OUR FREE ESTIMATES, AND I DO NOT THINK THERE IS A ROOFING COMPANY ON ANGIE'S LIST THAT DOES. MY BROTHER PAUL, THE OWNER OF TANS PERSONALLY WENT OUT AND INSPECTED THE PROBLEM HER BUILDING WAS HAVING. WE WROTE A COMPREHENSIVE PROPOSAL TO TAKE CARE OF WHAT WAS WRONG THERE. IF THIS ANGIE'S LIST MEMBER FOUND SOMEONE SO MUCH LOWER THAN US, SHE DID NOT CONTACT US TO EXPLAIN THE WORK THAT WAS PROJECTED FOR HER. IT IS A SHAME THAT COMPLAINTS LIKE THIS ARE ALLOWED ON ANGIE'S LIST. THIS WAS FOR A FREE ESTIMATE, NO MONEY EXCHANGED HANDS. AND HOW DO WE GET TO EXPLAIN OUR CONTRACT TO SOMEONE WHO HAD ALREADY MADE UP HER MIND ABOUT US, AND HAS PENNED A COMPLAINT THAT WILL END UP CAUSING US FINANCIAL HARM, AS FUTURE CUSTOMERS COULD BE DISCOURAGED FROM CONTACTING US. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO RE-ITERATE, THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR US. LARRY TANSEY – PARTNER, VP OF OPERATIONS

Paul came to do an estimate, and seemed very knowledgeable and helpful. He even checked out our attic and basement just to make sure we didn't have any additional leaking or drainage issues. However, since we have an older house (over 100 years), there were challenges involved that he didn't seem willing to take on, and actually seemed far more interested in putting a new roof on our garage (which is much newer and doesn't really need a new roof) than he did in repairing the roof on our house. We never received an estimate, and when I called back to ask if they were going to send one they said they would do so right away, but never did. Overall, they were very courteous and helpful, but pretty much blew us off. We ended up going with another company, who performed the repairs quickly and easily.
