Very responsive and timely response to any issues during the work and when setting up the date of service. Very courteous, punctual and professional. Spent more time than originally estimated and did not charge extra or complain - just interested in getting the job done right.

After receiving estimates for new gutters and repair work I decided if I wanted to keep my three flat I should tear the roof off and do it right. I received estimates from eight companies. Tan's was in the middle. What I liked about the company was that the owners are involved right from the start. I didn't want a company too big or too small. I wanted a mid-sized company that has been in business for a long time. They gave a detailed estimate that was fair. When you tear off a flat roof there can be added cost for rebuilding and/or tuckpointing the peripet walls. Their cost was fair and they did a great job.

This is an exceptional company. I submitted a request for an estimate via e-mail and they got back to me almost immediately and came out the next day. They took pictures so I could see the condition of my roof up close. They sent me the pictures via e-mail later that day, explained very clearly what my options were and, when I decided I wanted the entire roof done instead of just spot repairs, followed up with a contract right away that outlined exactly what work they would be doing, and were able to schedule me within a little over a week after I sent a deposit. When my first scheduled intallment date was rained out, they came the very next day, right on time. They sent an impressively huge crew so they could complete the work in one day, which is good because it poured for the next 36 hours, proving that they had done a thorough job of sealing my roof. They followed up with a phone call expressing concern that the satellite dish they re-installed might not be in alignment, but it was done perfectly and I didn't have to call the satellite company to come and re-align the dish. I recommend this company to anyone looking for roofing work.

Mike who came to do the estimate was very knowledgeable. We'd had a few other roofers come out and were told by a couple that they only did exterior work or didn't have a carpenter for this extensive of a project. We didn't want to replace the roof since we'd just had a tear off done in 2007. While another company's quote came in less expensive, their plan didn't seem as solid and their contract had a lot of exclusions/liability waivers that we weren't comfortable with. When I asked more in depth questions about TQR's plan, I felt very confident that they'd done this before. The workers showed up on time, kept a very clean work area and even got done earlier than planned. We had some minor damage to a couple ceilings on the mainfloor but we figure that's to be expected and it's nothing that can't get patched/re-painted.
Description of Work: Our roof started caving in last winter, we found 5-6 rafters cracked and more bowing along one side of our roof. We'd braced them temporarily but knew it was only a quick fix to stop the rafters from completely collapsing. We were starting to get shifting in the main floor as our attic and basement doors were getting hard to open/close and we found a vertical crack in the plaster wall near our attic entrance door. Our home is a 1914 Chicago Bungalow with true 2x4s that were probably original. TQR came out with three workers and basically rebuilt our roof from the inside. Every rafter was jacked up as straight as possible and then sistered with a 2x6. They not only did the east side of the roof that was affected by cracks but also the west side and then joined them at the peak. We may have even gained head room now that nothing sags!

Tan's was the first provider to step onto the problem area (a section of my house juts out from the rest) and immediately felt softness that led them to conclude it should be re-built. I had had other estmates but none of them had mentioned this or even bothered to check. So after getting more estimates (all in the same general price range), I hired Tan's based on their reputation and warranty. The were able to do the work within a reasonable time, sent me pictures of the work in process, and cleaned up thoroughly. With all this rain, the "fix' has definitely been tested, and it appears to have fixed the problem. The area they worked on was about 2' x 10' area over my 2nd floor. They did the work on 2 40' ladders. Following is a description of the work: 1. tore off existing roof including plywood decking 2. replaced decking with 3/4" CDX plywood, covered with 1/2" hardboard roof insulation, nail on 43 pound base sheet 3. sprayed 1 coat of Enviroseal Double 7 brick Sealant to surrounding wall area 4. torch-applied a 4.2mm thick layer of white granulated modified bitumen membrane material over base sheet 5. installed outside drip-edge metal at 3 sides of balcony, applied asphalt primer to drip esge and wall flashing area 6. torch-applied the same membrane material to flash pieces of metal and wall, and sealed with Solar Seal Caulking Compound 7. applied another coat of Enviorseal
Description of Work: re-built a portion of my roof and sealed the surrounding masonry to fix a leak.

Very happy with the service and professional manner in which the operated. Decided to go with a different contractor based on pricing. They were Number 2 in line. When I am ready for a rooftop deck on the main house they will be called to bid out the project.

The crew did an excellent job and in one day too. They came in the morning (on time), tore off old roof and replaced damaged rafters (there were many) and even added extra support rafters. The replacement of the rafters took a lot of work and they worked all day almost non stop. New decking and shingles were added. They even stayed late to finish.

I got three quotes for the work and decided to go with Tan's even though it wasn't the lowest. Paul was very knowledgable when going over the work for the estimate. The proposal I got described in detail the work to be done. Due to a budget constraint, I was not able to get all the work I wanted get done so Larry worked with me on the pricing I was able to manage this time and postpone the other work. I was very happy with all the work completed, and everything was cleaned up around the work area. I will definitely use them again for the other work I postponed.

It went perfectly. I was/am really satisfied and pleased that I went with TQR. I called for an estimate and they emailed me to confirm the estimate and I received the estimate via email in about 3 days. I called and asked several questions to which they adequately answered and were very helpful. I signed the contact a week or so later and put half down and the work was scheduled in two days. They made a separate trip and dropped off shingle samples at our home the day prior to the work date. They also politely requested that I inform my neighbors of the work to be performed, which I appreciated as I may have overlooked that courtesy. They arrived at 8am as promised and the labor was extremely professional, courteous and helpful in selecting the shingle to match the house. The crew answered all questions and confirmed the work to be performed and materials to be used. I went to work and got home and the job was completed beautifully. They cleaned thoroughly and I paid the remaining 50% at that time. They subsequently dropped off the shingle warranty that I asked for--I didn't have to ask twice and it was there--hand delivered to my mailbox!(this request could have easily been ignored by many other contractors) They sent a hand-signed "Thank you" w/in a week! My neighbor also commented on how professional the workers handled the job are interested in using TQR should the need arise.

Install bottom course of 7” Starter-strip Shingles, around entire perimeter of garage; 6. Install Certainteed® Landmark™ 30-Year Dimensional / Architectural-style shingles1 over entire roof, mechanically fastening each with 5 - 1-¼” Nails; 7. Roof price was a little high compared to other vendors. Deck price was mid-range. Tans was very responsive to our many questions, and provided estimates timely. The estimates, however, had several "hidden costs", which caused final estimate to increase from original. For example, initial estimate only quoted masonry work in terms of "if walls need to be rebuilt, it will cost $50/square foot". It was impossible to tell how much the total would be. We had to have the estimator come out a 2nd time to evaluate total cost of project. Other vendors immediately recognized that masonry work needed to be done, and included that total in their estimates, rather than including it as "add-on" costs. Overall, however, Tans was very professional and we would consider them again in the future.
Description of Work: Tans only provided estimates; one for new roof and one for new rooftop deck. We ultimately decided to use another vendor.

I had a leak, and since my condo building had used Tans, I thought I'd call them. They were very responsive, and next thing I know the President of the company is calling to inspect my leak. I thought it odd that such a small leak would get such high priority, but maybe that's why they're so great. Then Paul Tansey promptly showed up, spent about 5 seconds on my roof (which others have told me is in pretty decent shape), and immediately started trying to convince me that I needed a comlete tear off. When I explained to him that I had no interest in such a large project, he did eventually give me decent prices to patch the leak, but by then I had lost all confidence in him.

After our meeting, it took an additional two weeks for Jim to get back to me with an estimate. By that time I had already found another company (Moore Construction) to do the job. Perhaps Tan doesn't like to take on smaller jobs like replacing gutters, which is fine. But don't j*** me around by coming to my house and trying to tell me that my roof is on the verge of collapse (when its not) just because you want a bigger job.
Description of Work: The worst. Called Tan's roofing for an estimate to install two gutters at my home. They said they would get back to me shortly, but did not respond for a period of about two weeks! Nonetheless, I scheduled an appointment to have someone come out for an estimate. A guy named Jim came to my house for the estimate and immediately tried to sell other services by telling me that my other gutters were old and improperly installed. He then went on to say that my roof was in bad shape and would probably need to be replaced soon, and then asked about the state of the flashing around my chimney - Bear in mind that I wasn't looking for an evaluation of the roof - and worse, he made his evaluation from the ground! - not ever actually climbing onto the roof to inspect it. He took some measurements, took a few pictures, and said he would get back to me. In general, I didn't think Jim represented the company very well.

Tan's estimator was great, carefully examining the roof and showing me where the issues were. It took more than a week to get the estimate, but once I called to check in, they had it to me in a day and the work was scheduled within a week. On the day of the work, the foreman noted some condensation issues and proposed a solution (wind-driven vent fans). I had a quote immediately and the work was scheduled in the next week. The vent fans will likely get us another couple of years out of this roof.
Description of Work: Tan's patched and repaired some problem areas on our rubber roof (12-unit condo building) and installed two wind-driven fans to vent condensation from the space underneath the roof but above the unit ceilings.

Paul and Larry (and the whole staff) were very professional. The estimate was very competitive and the work was done within the estimated price. We did have a few additional costs, that we expected, and they showed and explained in detail any extras. All extra costs were very legitimate. The work staff cleaned the entire site each night before they left. Communication was excellent. We were kept informed all durring the process.

Response from Tans' Quality Roofing Inc
I cannot believe this Angie's List Member posted this Report. If she would have read our reviews she could see there is no reason to be paranoid about us. Many Members have trusted us with their FREE ESTIMATES. We told her twice, our Main Estimator's Employment with us has abruptly ceased last Friday, and we scheduled her with the President Paul Tansey, who shared the same first name as our Estimator, who is no longer with us. In no way were we being deceptive, she even talked to My Brother Paul, and for whatever reason felt we had too many Paul's, or not enough. Whatever the case we tried to contact this Customer afterwards, and she hung up on us. We always try to service our Customers, and there many requests. I do not feel a Grade of "F" should have been applied to us. I would also be interested to find out just how many reports this Member has written about other Angie's List Contractor's. We were happy how in-depth the inspection was, which required them to get on the roof and inspect the damage. This happened while I was home and when he was finished, he took the time to speak to me and describe the problem. After we accepted their offer, they came the next day and got right to work. They were very good about cleaning up after themselves. I feel if I paid the money, I expect them clean their work area. I was quite happy with their service and would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: After calling 2 companies for estimates, we felt this company would do the best work. When the other company rep came out, he didn't even get on the roof to inspect. If we needed the other company's estimate, we would still be waiting. We hired Tans to fix our roof.

The quote took awhile to receive. Once I signed contract to start job was scheduled very quickly. The team was prompt and the foreman was very friendly and professional. The job was more comlicated than originally quoted because of the age of the house and type of previous work done. It took one full day longer than originally estimated. The cleanup at the end of the job was not as thorough as promised.I alerted the owners and they were very responsive.

Greg came out and apologized for not getting in contact with me earlier. He came out and looked at the mortar that needed to be redone since it did not match the original and stood out like a sore thumb. He said he would fix it. While he was here, I wanted an estimate for the birds who were living under our coping tiles along the parapit wall. The birds had been destroying the mortar and I needed it filled. I had other companies that came out that were going to charge me hundreds of dollars to fill 3 small areas... He said he would do it for me at NO COST SINCE HE FELT HORRIBLE ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE. I AM SO SO SO IMPRESSED WITH TANS. I DID CALL ANGIES LIST TO HAVE MY OLD REPORT REMOVED AND I HOPE THAT FUTURE CUSTOMERS LOOK AT THIS REPORT. I REMEMBER GREG's team DID A FABULOUS JOB LAST YEAR AND NOW HE PROVEN TO BE PROFESSIONAL. THIS IS A VERY GOOD COMPANY, ONE THAT I CHOOSE TO DO MY WORK, so I am happy that they went above and beyond my original expectations. Thank you Tans. In the end I gave them an overall A because they went beyond my expectations.
Description of Work: I have used Tan's many times at previous homes and my current home. 10 months ago they did work on my home. They did some complimentary work on the brick on the front of the home. The mortar did not match so I asked them to come out. I had to call several times over several months and I got very upset at one point. I wrote a report on Angies List to let them now I was upset and they were not responding. BUT EVERYTHING CHANGED AFTER THE REPORT AND THEY HONORED THEIR WORD....
