The company sent out a representative to my house to see the porch roof. After a week or so the company gave me an estimate. I subsequently got two more estimates. I found the company's price to be the highest of the three. I communicated once with the company by email and received a reply. When I tried to ask more questions via email, the company did not respond. I decided not to hire the company for the job.
Description of Work: The company gave me an estimate for a roofing job over my porch.

My review is a little late but it adds to the professionalism of the work and the weatherproof of the product. I contacted several companies regarding the problem of a large separation of the sidewalk down the entire length of the house due to new construction of a house next door which caused the sidewalk to move. A few of the suggestion given to me were - there was no product on the market to fix crack. or jack up the sidewalk and fill with something, or they were too busy, or it would cost an extremely large amount of money. But TQR after I called sent out an employee immediately and told me they could and would fix it, with a sealant/compound. The work was scheduled and completed within a week. I am well satisfied with the work they were very neat and cleaned up completely. The product did its job. We had a lot of snow up against the foundation and when it melted it did not go down into the gap. We shoveled and it not disturb the sealant. I am very pleased with their work.

The work was prompted by our recent chimney replacement: new flashing was needed, but we took the opportunity to have them look into some other problem areas on the roof as well. It turned out the damage was more extensive than we thought. Larry was good about keeping in touch about the additional work that was needed and sent digital photos by email to show the work that was needed and what was done. I was impressed with the professionalism of the crew and the overall customer experience. I would use these folks again.

This was a very difficult repair, we uncovered a lot of damage that needed to be corrected. Our Customer worked with us on getting everything done, so the current materials, have the most longevity.
TAN's is my go-to for this type of work. Reasonable, professional, and in the last case they even showed up a few days early because they had the time.

Estimate Process: We received multiple estimates from a combination of roofing experts and builders. TQR was one of the only roofing experts who had the capability to put on a deck and maintain a strong warranty. They were timely in scheduling time for an estimate and very accommodating when making requested changes to the contract. They were also patient with us between the steps of deck removal, roof replacement and deck building as we had private inspections between each step. Project Execution: It took a few weeks longer than the estimated time to start work but they were always timely in their arrival each day and also worked over the weekends. There were only two issues during the project, first was that one of the days of the project one of the workers hit our building with their truck causing some of the masonry to come off. Although it was witnessed by a neighbor, they were not easy to work with regarding repair and ultimately did not end up repairing the damage. The second issue was around a type of material that was used for the roof was different than what was in the contract. While the project manager explained that this type of material was better than what was estimated for and was required for an added roof deck, it would have been better to include that up-front in the estimate or notify us of the changes prior to installation. They claimed the material was more expensive and did not charge us for the increase in price of materials. Additionally, they mentioned that they we can call and schedule complimentary routine maintenance visits every year as part of the warranty. Billing Process: Billing was easy and timely. They provided us with invoices almost immediately after the job was complete and then sent another invoice after payment was received for proof of payment.

We were impressed with TQR from the start. The person who came out to do the estimate was very professional and friendly. He took pictures and provided us with an estimate soon after for exactly the task we asked for. He didn't try to up-sell. Upon doing the work, they found that the rear of some of the downspout pieces were split from ice buildup. Larry contacted us right away and explained the situation. Instead of saying we need an all new system, Larry only replaced the pieces that had a split and re-used the pieces that were still intact. His team was also sure to use those pieces in areas that would be better suited for the older material. We also found that the other side of our building also had issues and asked if they wouldn't mind fixing that side too before it became an issue. The guys were able to provide an estimate and fix the downspout that day. Quick and efficient is probably the best way I can sum up Tan's Quality Roofing.

TQR did a tear off roof back in 2012. The roof at the time I considered well done. The guttering was replaced as well as well as downspouts. I had to have them back at least 3 times as the guttering was pitched the wrong direction. There is only one set of downspouts at the back of the house. The guttering was leaning towards the front of the house so causing flooding the the front courtyard. I had them back several times over the next months, with this still going on 6 months later in June of 2013 they were still coming out to fix this. Just when you thought you had enough of dealing with TQR, mid-march 2015 I was having some other work done in my top floor apartment and the contractor noted that I didn't have a ridge vent.. and I should have one installed. I was shocked at this as I had the lovely people at TQR cash my check back in 2012 for the work being completed that was supposed to include a ridge vent. I called TQR at least twice and emailed as well in March of this year saying that I had a contractor working on the inside on my house and told me I had no ridge vent in place. Their first response was to check the contract to see whether I was supposed to get one back in 2012 as part of the deal and I have to say they were a little disappointed that indeed I had paid for one to be installed. As it turned out they had put the ridge vent in place but had not cut the plywood to allow the hot air out. So half a job yet again. They finally came around April 20th this year and I hope to god this is the last time I have to get this company back to my house to finish this job. Im sure a lot of people have good luck with this company, but with the number of roofing options in Chicago I would steer clear of these guys. Its the bare minimum of what they have to do to get the check out of you. Oh and in response to TQR protesting my review. Should I really give a good review to a company that takes 5 or 6 visits to get a job done over a period of 3 years? I think not.

It is unfortunate to get this review from this Member. We worked to correct this issue the moment we realized on of our Employees had not cut through all the wood at the peak, to create the Ridgevent opening. We went there after He told us about his interior Contractor's findings, removed the shingles, cut the wood, reinstalled the vent, and installed new shingles. We took pictures, and sent them to him. A Human error was the cause of this, and it was corrected as soon as we knew. Larry Tansey

Had to reschedule a couple times, 1st due to owner conflicting schedule then weather. Day of actual service, workers were a little late which wasn't a huge deal..the workers arrived, didn't ring the bell to introduce themselves, show ID, etc., just commenced to climb on top of my house, wasn't aware they were there until I heard a scraping sound (them cleaning gutters!). We, of course, went outside to touch bases with them, workers weren't friendly or smiling and my husband pointed out a few problem areas and we went back inside. After about 1-2 hours, didn't hear anyone on the roof, so we go outside and POOF, they're GONE without a word to us, Hi dog, bye dog, nothing! Complained to owner via email and he said foreman had to take kids to doctor and sent picture of cleaning being done, no feedback or recommendations...there is absolutely NO EXCUSE or justification FOR POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ALL OUT RUDENESS?who does that???

We recently installed a tankless water heater and high efficiency furnace, negating the need for a chimney. Since our Chimney was in disrepair, we decided to have it taken down. TQR replaced our roof 5 years ago so we decided to use them again. They provided an estimate based on pictures from the previous job. We gave them the down payment and they performed the job the following week. Looks like they did a great job and cleaned up nicely.

I had issues with them. I had gotten a number of quotes from other people. His was in between. He quoted me one price and a few days later he forgot to tell me that there was another item that he had forgotten so he had to add that one and then there was another thing he had to add that on. I was really irritated. If I had known it was going to be that much I would have gone with someone else. It seemed very deliberate, I mean how can you forget to add certain items. That what really pissed me off. The original quote was about $8,990 and the contract amount was $12,690. It took them a couple of days to do the job. It looks fine. The workers, there was one day that it started to rain. I think there was one worker and they didn't cover up what they were working on and the ceiling inside a big baubble started forming where the water was coming in. That really pissed me off. I just blew up at them. I wasn't going to mention it but after I got the bill I did. I would not recommend them.

Tans Quality Roofing did a great job with the roof repair. The roof was damaged and had mold growing on the plywood underneath the shingles. They took out everything and replaced with new plywood, ice & water shield, flashings, and new shingles. We also had them relocate a downspout which resulted in a new gutter. They also checked our existing gutters and performed fixes as necessary, even though it was nowhere in the contract to do that. Knowing that they were making a mess inside the house (our ceiling was opened up for structural work), one of the workers asked to come in, lay out a tarp, and later cleaned it all up when they were finished - all while knowing that the house was a mess anyway from the structural work. And the best thing of all, I can't even tell from the outside that any work was performed! Larry was very responsive via email. They were a little late coming in, but Larry told me in advance due to another project they were working on. But they stayed late so that they could finished the project on that same day. I didn't even have to ask them to. Would definitely recommend and reuse them.

We were having shingles failing on a specific portion of our roof. The original installation wat 10 years ago and the entire side of the roof was starting to fail due to what looked like bad shingle products. While it is not common TQR agreed to repair just that side of the roof. They matched the shingles perfectly. They also managed to do it inbetween bad weather in Chicago's winter. It took them a single day to tear off a large section of roof and replace the shingles. They also upgraded the vents, installed a ridge vent, cleaned and put a leaf shield on our gutters. They were extremely professional and when it was done, you couldn't even tell they had been there. I would highly recommend them and will use them again when it is time to do the other side!

We have used TANS Quality Roofing for multiple phases of masonry work on our 1920's era condo building. Their work is excellent, high quality and done right. TANS is a roofing company first but has a very skilled masonry crews. Their prices are competitive. My only gripe is that they can be a bit unresponsive at times which I credit to how busy they are on any given week. They have gone over their expected date of completion and we incurred some additional scaffold and permit expenses. However, their willingness to work with our financial situation and their professionalism eased the relationship. We will use TANS again in the future and I recommend them for their quality of finished product.

Was easy to get a hold of, always available by telephone or email. Came out for the estimate, spent 1 hour discussed the job with me, explained what they would be doing. Wrote up a very professional and easy to read and understand estimate. The cost, including the new door, screen door, and an extra 3 inches of insulation, was well under the estimate of a competitor, who did not include the door or extra insulation. Did the job neatly and quickly, took photographs of damage parts of the roof that had to be replaced and explained what had to be done. Finished the door and rebuilt the door sill in a very satisfactory fashion. The door was built incorrectly by the manufacturer two times. Each time they returned it and insisted on the correct specifications for the door. Based on this, I asked them to look over my peaked roof. They looked it over, sent me photographs of the roof, pointed out where it was damaged, and submitted another very professional estimate, easy to read and to understand. The price was reasonable. They did the job to specification. The materials used were high quality. The workman were competent. The cleanup was excellent. They have always honest and easy to work with, easy to communicate with. TQR is without doubt the best home contracting company that I have ever worked with, hands down! They were referred to me by someone at work whose father had used them and was happy with their work. Best referral I ever got.
Description of Work: Replaced flat roof in October 2014. Took photographs of the damaged areas that needed to be completely replaced. removed a railing around the roof and replaced it. Contacted TQR to come out and give me a quote on a leak I had coming from the Roof. Dan came out, was very nice and knowledgable. Quickly provided a quote on email but said I needed to do way more than what I'd asked them for a quote on. I asked him them to update the quote for the specific job I called them about and never heard back from them. I guess my job was to small but I don't understand why you'd waste your time coming out, climbing on my roof only to ignore my request to what I actually want done. I also thought their cost was extremely high for the job. I had someone come fix it in literally minutes, minutes at like 1/5 of the cost they were quoting me.
Description of Work: Came out and gave me a quote.
This roofing experience was a bit of a roller coaster ride. The initial crew that worked on our main house roof was good and exceedingly hard working, except for the foreman who was gone for large parts of the job and barely lifted a finger to help. The job was initially scheduled to be done in 2 days, but extended to 4 days because of workers not showing up for work, or possibly getting fired per later reports. Overall, this initial experience was positive. The crew were very diligent about cleaning up after themselves every day. They worked from early in the morning until long into the evening. The workers were always polite, and respectful of our property and privacy. Considering the job that they had to do, with 3 layers of shingles to remove, and several unexpected issues to overcome, they did great work. One issue during the initial job was that the wrong color of gutter was brought to my house. I did not discover this until they had begun working with it. The did ask if I wanted the original requested color, but in looking at the gutter felt it would work well. I do not regret the gutter color, but do feel that the correct color should have been conveyed considering my job had been scheduled weeks in advance. Another issue was that a few days after the work was completed we discovered a problem with a leak from the sky light on my back screened in porch. This issue persisted for over a month and was not fixed until workers were here to complete a second project on my upstairs back porch. The troubling part of this situation was that I was continually given excuses for why this sky light issue was not being fixed sooner. I was told on several different occasions that people would stop by to fix it, but then it did not happen. Again, once the workers were here, they were hard-working and did great work. In particular, the solution for my flat roofed upstairs porch was excellent and resolved water issues in my back downstairs utility room. A third issue that I discovered a few weeks after the completion of my second job was that the water from my roof did not flow directly into my gutter. When I emailed this being an issue to Larry Tans, he indicated that someone would be out to take a look at the matter. I was surprised to find a quote for $475 to take down the newly put up gutter and extend it another 6 inches, and to put up a triangular diverter to help direct the water to the gutter. I expressed surprise over this and indicated I would not pay for this work and could not understand ripping down new gutter. Thankfully Larry had one of his workers take care of this issue at no additional charge. Even if it was not the perfect solution to the problem, it has resolved the issue and water flows into my gutter rather than straight down onto my sidewalk. The reason I do not give A grades for Tans is due to the issues mentioned above, including the longer than expected completion time of the original project. The communication problems with the foreman, due to his extended absences. The difficulty in getting issues resolved related to the sky light and gutter. What I had expected to be a few days project turned into a summer long endeavor. While I am very happy with my new roof, I did not expect it to be such a drawn out process. I have learned a lot during this extended roofing project, including the need to make sure that the entire scope of your project is understood by each party. My second project was not initially scheduled because I did not realize that it was something that needed to be completed by a different crew of workers. My satisfaction with the first job was why I hired Tans for the second one without seeking additional quotes. I would also strongly consider hiring Tans again if I have future roofing needs.

I called to get an estimate to install soffit vents in my roof/attic. The person on the phone was responsive and was able to get me on the calendar for a free estimate very quickly. That was good. The person came on time for the estimate and just said that he'd look outside. After 15 minutes or so, I went outside to check on him and he was gone. I called the office a couple days later and asked about the estimate since the man never told me anything and left without saying anything to me. The person on the phone said he'd send me the estimate later that day. It's been 2 weeks and I still haven't gotten the estimate yet. Since then I was able to get another estimate and have my soffit vents installed by another company.
