The original installation of the air-conditioner (prior to our owning of the condo) leaked into the walls of our condo, so 2 years ago, we had another tuckpointing company come out to install a new sleeve and air-condtioner. Turns out they installed it incorrectly as well - there was no tilt to the sleeve to allow for drainage outside. Whenever it rained or snowed, instead of the water draining outside, it would drain into the walls. Last year, we had another tuckpointing company come to look at it, and they said they would be back in the spring to fix it. Never showed up again. So we called Star T uckpointing. They promptly showed up for the quote appointment and gave us what I felt was a fair price. When we called to accept the quote and schedule the actual job, they told me that although they were currently scheduling at least 6 weeks out, they could squeeze us in earlier since it was a smaller job. Sure enough, 2 weeks later, they arrived right on time, fixed the problem, cleaned up after and left. So far, no leaks (even after the killer storm on Saturday 8/4)!
Description of Work: Removal and re-installation of improperly installed, leaking in-wall air conditioner sleeve in 3rd floor condo.

We contacted three companies that were listed on Angie's List. The quotations were all competitive. We met with each of the companies and selected Peter based on the fact that we felt he was very sincere about doing a good job.All of the condo members are pleased with the outcome. We only wish that we had before and after pictures. We had another tuckpointer work on the building previously and he had quite frankly made a mess of the building with sloppy work. Peter cleaned up all the problems caused by the previous contractor and the building looks wonderful. Many of the neighbors have also commented on much better it looks. We would highly recommend this company!
Description of Work: Our condo association selected Peter to do some major work on our vintage 6 flat building. Star repaired the parapets, replaced nine lintels, ground down the face brick joints on the entire front of building and tuckpointed the front of the building.

Overall the experience was very good. I was just expecting to have the mortar ground out on the entire house and it was not. Maybe it didn't need to be grounded out but that was what I was expecting.

Star Tuckpointing is excellent! They are honest and extremely CLEAN,and their work was very good.. They did everything they promised to do, they checked in with our neighbors to ensure that the neighbors knew what was happening, and assured our neighbors that they would not disturb their property (this is hard to find). They were very clean, and they left the site spotless! It is an honest family company that is equally interested in their craftsmanship as they are your satisfaction. We have a few more smaller jobs (when budgets permit) that we will absolutely use them for.

They do good work and their prices are right. Their work was excellent and they did more work than I expected for less money. They actually went into corners and I didn't expect them to because they were hired for one room. I said there were some areas that needed reinforcement. So they went around and checked and they plugged those areas without adding extra money. They also cleaned up after the job. Someone even wiped the floor down. They had three guys that worked diligently. They were polite, good workers. They gave me a good estimate for some upcoming chimney work as well.
Description of Work: We used Star Tuckpointing last winter, they did foundation basement work and they are coming back to do my chimney. I saw them advertised in your booklet. They did interior stone work in the basement.

The crew arrived on time and got right to work and worked on a Saturday as well. One of the owners sons, Voytek, came to the job on Saturday and wanted to discuss an issue with the chimney. A brick had fallen in while they were cleaning it and he gave us the option of just tuck-pointing it (though advised against it since the brick was old and had been tuck-pointed once already) or rebuilding it for us. While we were not expecting the additional cost, we thought it best to have the chimney rebuilt ($700.00). We were worried about the flower box removal as the pad that this sat on was sticking up out of the ground about 2", they dug this all out, got rid of the root bound plants in it, hauled away all the excess dirt and stones and even took away a bunch of extra bricks we had accumulated over the years. They cleaned up the site and were done in about 4 days. Hard workers, great job, would use them again - but I'm sure the tuck-pointing will last for years and I won't need them!
Description of Work: We own a Cape Cod style home, built about 1950, bottom half is face brick, upper is sided. We couldn't spend another winter without much needed tuck-pointing and removal of a built-in flower box, and new flashing and cap for the chimney.

We called in October and were told that this was an inside job that would be scheduled during inclement weather. that was fine with us. Peter came by early in December to evaluate the job and gave us an estimate. He told us that they would be able to five us a date sometime in early January. He called to schedule the appointment in the first week of the year for early February. When the date came, we cleared out the living room, cleaned the fireplace and put down a drop cloth. The two man crew arrived promptly with the materials. They took out all the old bricks and disposed of them; custom cut new heat resistant bricks: and did the reconstruction over the next three days. The fireplace is so beautiful. We could not be happier. Star did wonderful work on the outside of our house. they reconstructed the chimneys, put in a new lental in the basement window and tuck pointed the house where needed. Now they have done an outstanding job the inside fireplace. We have run out of projects for them right now, but do not hesitate to give them the highest recommendation. Call them up for your home or business. You will be very happy with their work and their price.
Description of Work: In the past, Star Tuckpointing did work on the outside of of our house. the work was extensive and we were very happy with both the quality and the price. So, when it became obvious that we needed to have our fireplace rebuilt, there was no question that we should call Star Tuckpointing. It took a couple of months before our job could be undertaken as they are very busy. We take that as a good sign. On the appointed day, the crew arrived on time and began work on the fireplace. It took three days and a final return visit. The work is just beautiful and the price was right. Call these guys and you will not be disappointed. They are simply the best in every category.

We liked their service a lot. They were very responsive. I asked if there was an Angie's List discount and they said there was. They sent us the bill without the discount so I called and they took care of it immediately. They were good and did a good job. They returned calls so they were very responsive to their customers. We are going to have some additional work done in a year or so and we will definitely consider using them.

My husband and I moved into our condo and immediately had major leak issues. After hiring an independent inspector to determine what was causing all the problems, we found Star, in addition to several other masons, on Angie's List to come quote us for the repairs. They were prompt for their estimate appointment and even provided feedback from the inspection. They were able to provide an estimate quickly and were flexible making changes as we decided what work we wanted to complete this year. Their estimate was not the most expensive, but also not the cheapest either. Based on the other costs we saw, we believe their price was expensive but fair for the quality of work noted in other Angie's List reviews. After our association agreed to move forward with Star, they said it would take 5-7 weeks to get on the schedule. The waiting was the only difficult part as it actually took about 8 weeks but there was a significant amount of inclement weather. The work was scheduled to take 2-3 weeks and they finished in just over 2 (working Monday through Saturday) and came in right on budget. While they've only been finished about 2-3 weeks, we haven't had any more leaks. As long as their work continues to holds up as we expect it to, we would definitely use them again and/or recommend them if someone needs masonry work done!

I found Star on Angie's list and chose them based on the quality reviews they have received here. My first contact was with Peter who was very helpful and professional at every step of the process. Peter helped me go through a long list of potential projects and prioritized them in the order of importance, which was extremely helpful since masonry work is unavoidably expensive and, for this reason, often has to completed over several seasons. I chose Star because of the process they use to replace lintels; they use not only weep ropes (required) and rubber flashing (really should be used) but also stainless steel drip edges which are an excellent way to both protect the lintel and help evacuate any water that gets into a masonry wall. Star's proposal was detailed and professional; I knew exactly what each phase of the job was going to cost. Peter informed me that they were scheduling 5 to 7 weeks out and the project began about a month after I signed the contract. The work was completed in about two weeks with an average of four or five workers on site everyday. Peter's father was also on site on several occasions to help oversee the project. Peter's brother Voitek who manages the jobs in progress caught an error and had three of the replacement lintels removed and reset, which clearly indicates a strong commitment to doing the job correctly. Upon completion of the project, Voitek walked through each phase of the project with me, which again, was both highly professional and greatly appreciated. I have worked with 5 different masonry companies over the last 10 years in conjunction with several small residential properties I am responsible for. Of these 5 companies 2, including Star, had excellent quality, one had acceptable quality and two had unacceptable quality. The bigger companies I've dealt with were extremely expensive, have completed the jobs faster with acceptable, but not excellent, quality, and forced me to wait months and months for the project to begin. I've used smaller contractors that were very good on quality and price, but took really, really long to complete the work. For my needs, Star is the perfect balance of size, speed and price while maintaining excellent quality. OVERALL Experience A Price A Quality A Responsiveness A Punctuality A Professionalism A

The Star Tucking crew was very professional and did a high quality job. The estimator was a great communicator and responded quickly to my questions via email and phone. It took a few weeks for the project to kick off but this was clearly communicated to me before I signed the contract. The project foreman kept me in the loop on progress and addressed any concerns I had. I think the rebuilding of the wingwalls was a bigger project than they anticipated since the existing block was filled with concrete. However, they brought in the right equipment and resources and got the job done. They did a good job of matching outdated materials. Overall I was happy with the work and the final product.

I coordinated this job on behalf our condo association. We chose Star because they were very clear and professional when they came to submit a quote, and their quote was very reasonable compared to the others we received. Their crew was professional and well-organized, and got straight to work--we were impressed by how much they accomplished in a short period of time. Peter and Voytek visited the job site throughout the project and were very helpful in answering our questions about how masonry problems develop and what we can do to maintain ours and prevent future issues. Based on our experience we will definitely use them in the future.

After a call, Peter from Star Tuckpointing came out , looked at the building and within a few days emailed an estimate. We had several estimates but choose Star because they were prompt and very professional. They began work about 6-7 weeks later. The men started work early, worked very hard and concentrated on doing their job. They cleaned up each day and did not damage any landscaping and did not bother our neighbors. Peter addressed some concerns we had, came out and stayed in touch and explained things clearly. Some of the terms were confusing, so we appreciated the explainations. The work was completed within the original time frame, and except for an additional repair which was necessary, the cost was reasonable and just over the original estimate. Overall, we feel that we were very lucky to have found them on Angie's List and are very satisfied with their work.
