Very well indeed.
Description of Work: Ray quoted very reasonable prices on three jobs he completed in one afternoon. He fashioned a missing metal bar (to match existing bars) for our front staircase and installed it as well as a bar I have been meaning to have replaced since we bought the house. He replaced a missing finial on our wrought iron fence, matching it to existing finials. And he refurbished an existing gate, adding wood slats for privacy. Couldn't be more pleased! I highly recommend Ray's Welding and Repair.

The front railing on the steps to my Fathers house needed to be repaired. The base of the posts had rotted out and if you leaned on the railing they would have given way and broken. One railing had already broken and needed to be replaced as soon as possible. I contacted Ray on a Wednesday and had my price on Thursday. I contacted Ray to give him the go ahead to do the work on Friday and Ray was there on Saturday to do the job. A couple of hours work and the railings where solid again. Better than new! Ray's attention to detail and quality of workmanship are outstanding!
Description of Work: The front railing on my Fathers house needed to be re-anchored to the concrete steps. The contractor who originally installed them used light gage wall tubing and they rotted out at the base.

Called for a quote, he came by for an estimate. We had a really nice consultation on the look and design. Ray actually made some really good improvements to the overall look I was going for and made it far more secure than what I had in mind. We agreed on the scope and he went to work. He always called before coming over to do work and was extremely polite and east to work with. The work was done in a timely fashion and the quality is impeccable.
Description of Work: Ray is the kind of person you want to do business with. He was responsive, easy to work with, and I cannot say enough about how happy I am with the work he did. His team was extremely nice and concerned with what I wanted...and they delivered. Price was better than other quotes and they did an exceptional job. If you want a fence, this is your guy.

I had new concrete steps installed a few years ago and needed new hand rails. I called Ray's Welding because of the good reports he received on Angie's List. I called him Monday morning and he said he would be out to check on the stairs later that day. He arrived early that same afternoon. He took measurements and told me that he was very busy and if I wanted the job done, it would be 4 or 5 weeks before installation. I agreed, he then told me he couldn't give me an estimate until the following day because he had to have this job sent out to another factory. He said he would email me the estimate. I knew he was busy so I waited until Thursday afternoon and no email with the estimate. I called him and he claimed that the factory still had not gotten back to him yet; but he assured me he would send the estimate via email that Thursday evening. No estimate that evening or any other evening. I feel I should not have to track him down for him to do the work. If he couldn't do the work, just say so and I would find someone else who is willing to do the job. I wasted a whole week waiting for him to give me an answer. I have since got an other estimate, also from Angie's List and they'll be do the work in 3 weeks.

My first thought was to not send in a report on Ray because when everyone on Angie's List finds out about what a gem he is, he'll never have time to do work for me again. Kind of like your favorite restaurant on Check Please. But, I couldn't help myself, so here it is: Ray responded to my call quickly, gave me an estimate, and scheduled the work within a reasonable amount of time. His estimate was the lowest of those I received, but because he had gotten such good reviews, I hoped he was the real deal. Believe me, he is. I gave him straight A's. If you want to pay extra for a guy in a suit to show up with manicured nails to give you an estimate, Ray is not the guy for you. Ray is a working man who knows his craft and takes pride in doing things right the first time. He and his assistant did everything in a workmanlike manner, were pleasant and polite, cleaned up after themselves, and charged workingman's wages. He's my kind of guy and I immediately put him on my repair guy speed dial as I have several apartment buildings with wrought iron that need periodic repairs. I've already asked him for an estimate on more work and have referred him to other landlords. Thanks, Ray.
Description of Work: Ray fixed two wrought iron gates so that they once again closed with the proper gap. He also replaced 10 wooden plank exterior back stairs sitting on rusty iron angles with 10 diamond plate iron stairs and primed and painted all of his work.

Our back fence gate was falling off of it's hinges and didn't lock. After an attempted burglary, we called Ray to give us an estimate to fix it. Ray was very quick to respond, gave us a very fair pricce, and did great work. He was able to fit us in just a couple days after the estimate given our circumstances. We're very happy with the work and would definitely use him again if needed!

I contacted Ray, and he came out to take a look. He email me a quote very quickly, and I requested to have the repairs done as soon as possible. He was able to come out the next day and complete the work. He brought the wrong points for the fence, so he came back out the following week and replaced those. His price was very good, and he was very professional.

3 legs rusted/rotted on rail of front stairs. Broke away from the cement stairs. Originally called another welder. That didn't work out and moved on to the next in line which was Rays. He didn't come out right away but, when he finally did, he explained what would have to be done. I agreed. Each leg would totally be replaced for 80.00 each. Then they would be set in cement by another person for and extra 100.00. I waited day after day. I called frequently. Of the many calls I made, I got a few call backs stating "I was just gonna call you", letting me know that he could not come out due to bad weather. Last communication was made on 05/27/2011. It was understood that the weather was bad and he could not come (rightfully so). I asked if the weekend was off limits. He said he would work any day that he could. No show. No call. Called early Tuesday to reset appointment. No call back. No show. Call log from phone statement showing 14 calls total. 10 outgoing to business, 4 Incoming to potential customer. This business probably saw that coming out was not worth it and hoped that I would get frustrated enough to just go away. Luckily, original welder saw the problem I was having and came out to rectify the error in his way and finished up in a little over 24 hours from when we spoke. Thanks for nothing, Ray. I'm sure you guys are good welders but, terrible business men who don't hold up to their word. I was understanding the entire time. I am new at this and I trusted Angie's list. You may have thought me to be a desperate dummy.

My only complaint is that the painting of the new post installed left a mess. There was black paint left over a 5 sf area of my wook deck. The post was a good match and the quality of welding was good.

I would hire them again in a heart-beat: Honest, hardworking, and professional.
Description of Work: After putting new siding on my garage, the wrought-iron gate next to the garage could not be locked from the inside. Ray was able to come up with the best solution for fixing the problem, both from an economic as well as an esthetic stand point. The charge for moving the gate over, cutting it down and putting it back together plus securing it to my house was $200. The gate looks terrific. I had him also reconfigure another standard fence gate so that it would be hard for a small animal to slip under . That cost was $20. Both jobs took about 3.5 hours. Since it was Ray and another worker, I was so pleased with the job, I paid them additional $30 for their time. They were very grateful

He did a great job. He was very nice. His price was much less for this product than anyone else that I spoke with. The downside was that he is just starting in this business so he didn't have pictures of styles of railings so I had to go and take pictures around my neighborhood of different things to show him what I wanted which slowed the job down quite a bit. Once I showed him what I wanted he did it in a very timely fashion. He still needs a little work on the professionalism. He needs to get his business a little better organized in terms of having pictures for his portfolio. I would absolutely consider using him again.

Ray does good work but should focus more on the business matters that are important like providing invoices to his customers. I am very hesitant to use Ray again because he does not provide any invoices for the work performed.
Description of Work: Gate would not shut due to broken lock. I called Ray and scheduled him to come out and get it fixed on Saturday, Jan 1, 2011. We agreed to meet at a certain time. He showed up an hour early and called wondering where I was. I told him we had agreed to meet at a later time, however, because he was already at my building I rushed back to my house so I could pay him. I asked for an invoice and he said he didn't have any. This is the second time I've used Ray and both times he failed to provide an invoice. As a not-for-profit condo association, we need invoices to support our business expenses. I emailed Ray twice asking for an invoice and received no response or invoice.

I spoke with Ray on the phone a couple of days before he came over. He called me back as promised and came to see the problem the same day. He examined it and gave me an estimate. I was happy with it and asked him to fix the step. He was done in about 30 minutes. I am very happy with his service.

This is a good vendor. Ray came by the house and provided me with a verbal estimate to repair my wrought iron railing and fence around my raised porch. I hired him on the spot and he indicated he would be in touch in a day or two to schedule the work, which he wanted to pair with another job when he would be back in the area. He called two days later to schedule the work for that Sat. I was not going to be around so we made arrangements for payment and I was going to have to pay him sight unseen for the work, which I was OK with given it was a fairly small job. I returned after the weekend to find that the job met and even exceeded my expectations. The work is solid, there was no mess, and I am very happy. I will keep Ray's number and plan to use him again if I have anything for him.

He and an assitant completed the work on time (<3 hrs), was present for my inspection of work and cleaned up. They did not disturb the surrounding landscaping.
Description of Work: Front porch and landing was metal frame and rails, with concrete treads - 3 steps and landing. The metal framework risers were rusted thru, and the metal side frames also had rust.- requested estimates from half a dozen other companies who said either it couldn't be done, or it was too small a task. Ray came and thoroughly inspected the porch and supports. Estimate for replacing rusted out risers(2), rust repair and painting entire porch metal structure of $300.

Great! Our condo association recently had 2 of its 3 A/C units stolen. After getting the units replaced, Ray helped us build a cage around all 3 units that secured to the side of the building and the concrete. I met with Ray on a Friday and he build the cage on the next day. Very prompt. Ray also painted the cage and handed some inserts so that the hose faucet was accessible.

Overall went well. The only thing was he seems somewhat busy and started our project late Sat afternoon and had to come back Sunday to finish as the sun went down. His team was clean, and Ray is awesome to work with, as a women I felt comfortable talking with him.
Description of Work: The estimate I recieved from Ray beat the others by 50%. He drew an accurate picture of the wrought iron gate and it looks exactly as he said it would. He built a 6 foot tall wrought iron gate/fencing with a dead bolt lock- better than the steel gates others wanted to build. This iron is really good quality and heavier than steel. He attached to the brick building as an added layer of security. He was very responsive. We've already made plans to have him come back next year for a new perimeter iron fence.

The door is very nice and looks much better than a traditional security grate. They did a great job, and I highly recommend them. I was very happy with their work. Their pricing was wonderful, and they were very responsive and had great follow-up. When someone is looking for a welder, I would urge you to look at them instead of a traditional door-it is not over the top, but it looks great and is just as secure.
