What I liked about the service was their electrical work was fantastic, very responsive, addressed issues as needed. The plumbing work was terrible, everything I had done ended up leaking, I had to have a plumber out probably 6 to 8 times before I finally ended up calling another plumber. Now on the plus side, he was extremely responsive, I called and complained and he was out here the next day. They really blew it on the plumbing.
Description of Work: I've used Progress Remodeler. I use them quite a bit. It would have been probably end of last year, sometime in the fall. It was for plumbing, electrical and other remodeling services. I think we ended up in the $10,000 range.

I have used Progress Remodeling for various jobs, large and small for over a decade now. From interior painting to complete gut rehab, they have come in at budget (or satisfactorily explained why something went over), the quality has been great, they are stellar at communicating all aspects of the job (not always the case with contractors) and respond quickly to phone calls and e-mail requests. Casey knows his stuff, especially plumbing and painting. The carpenters they use are also great (fabricated a complicated staircase for the gut rehab). And for this job, the only thing that really didn't click was the start date. He needed to wait until a previous job was completed and it got more complicated than expected so I had 3 potential start dates until we really started. Once going, the job was finished on time to everyone's satisfaction (me, damaged owner below and current tenants).
Description of Work: The latest job involved them undoing a bathroom remodel that they did for me some 7 years ago due to condo building's deteriorating infrastructure which caused incidental water from bathing/showering/splashing to pool in the walls and seep into unit below. They had to crack in half a cast iron claw foot tub to remove it and then rearrange the plumbing/pipes to install a standard tub/shower system and rebuild some walls. Because I was devastated by this necessity and didn't want to be involved with it, Casey offered to pick out tile, faucets, and shower/tub unit for me based on a budget we predetermined. He was able to do this because I've used him so often this past decade. And as he said, "I know your taste". He also had to patch the water damage in the unit below and paint that. He coordinated with that owner once I set up the initial introduction to keep it out of my hair.
We are very satisfied of the quality of work they provided. They were very helpful and full of ideas when we were designing our bathroom. The price fit right in our budget. We strongly recommend this company.

The wife and I had a major leak from the sink hot water faucet that the condo association could not handle. We decided to install a new sink and sink cabinet purchased from a third party. We hired Progress to install it and new tile on the floor. Progress did a good, but not excellent job. The paint on the trim is not ideal. They had to return to correct a leak in the installed sink and a tile that was not properly installed. When called, however, Progress responded appropriately.

100% satisfied! I've grown to trust Casey and his men over the past 1.5 years of doing improvement work to our townhome. He's done at least 15 jobs for us so far -some small like this one, and others that were fairly large. I won't even look at calling anyone else now. He's very fair, predictable, and trustworthy. A great general contractor like this one is hard to find.

I thought he was very responsive and that they did a pretty good job. We had one issue where a tile cracked, but they came right back to correct it. The only surprise that we had with them was that they did not include sealing the grout. They didn’t say anything ahead of time and we didn’t know to ask, so we had to seal the tile ourselves. They should tell people that they don’t do that up front because it seems like a standard thing to do. The price seems fair and I think they did a fair job.
Description of Work: Progress Remodeler redid our bathroom.
100% satisfied! Our first job as listed cost exactly $4510 and was well worth it. But I consider Casey Wdowiak and his crew at Progress Remodeling to be my one and only general contractor since recently moving to Chicago in 2010. I've rehired him over 10 times in the past 1 year+ to do both big and small jobs rehabbing our Lincoln Park townhome right from the day we closed on it then. These jobs ranged from replacing a hideous previous owner's kitchen backsplash to replacing two improperly previously built roofdecks to completely gutting and transforming a LL Full Bath into a spectacular spa-like bathroom. He's single-handedly transformed our dated townhome that we purchased in 2010 into a comfortable and livable (and re-sellable) HOME for me and my wife. I highly recommend him without reservation. We often give him the key to our home and trust his men to secure it and protect our property while they're working and we're not there. They're always on time right at the time they say they'll arrive. He's a general contractor and home builder who doesn't cut corners ever, and is very good at explaining what/why/how he'll do a job, as well as there's never any surprises when it comes to cost and price. I took the time to verify his Chicago General Contractor's Licensure #1898252 under Progress Painting & Remodeling, Inc., as well as requesting he email me (which he promptly did) his proof of business liability insurance ($2million aggregate coverage) through Rockford Mutual Ins. (policy #COIL009732), and even the BBB gives his firm an A. I wouldn't hire him over and over if he didn't do everything right, which he does, so I do. An honest, hardworking, skilled, and trustworthy contractor is hard to find in the city of Chicago. I recommend this one here to you.

We are preparing our house for selling. We hired Progress Remodeler to strip old wallpaper and paint several rooms. We remodeled a shower stall, including raising a soffet and installing new floor and wall ceramic tile, replacing shower head/faucet, and installing new exhaust fan/light fixture. We had several other miscellaneous and repair jobs done, including new kitchen sink installation, repair of a ceiling fan, repair of sagging cabinet doors, and repair of a broken sliding patio door. We have used Progress Remodeler on numerous occasions in the past, and, as usual, workmanship and professionalism were exemplary. Casey Wdowiak, owner, was prompt and courteous as always. Casey made numerous suggestions on how to improve the home appearance for selling without spending a lot of money. Work was completed on time or very close to the estimated completion date. Some unforseen complications (leaking dishwasher valve, additional plumbing work needed in shower) were handled with minimal additional cost and inconvenience. There were some minor workmanship problems -- some incomplete painting work in a closet, and damaged countertop tile in the kitchen. They did an excellent repair job on the tile damage at no cost, with no visible signs of damage after the repair. I would recommend Progress Remodeler for any home remodeling work and will likely use them again for any future work in our home.

The project from start to finish went great. Casey came out a couple of days after our original call and took measurements of the kitchen. He called when he said he would with an estimate for cleaning up the walls and for the installation of the kitchen. He was very willing to work with us if we wanted to clean up the walls ourselves. We provided the tile and the grout and he supplied everything else. When we were ready to proceed, he provided available dates the following week. He did the work himself with an assistant. The uneven walls required him to cut the glass tiles lengthwise, which he did with a machine at his shop. He took the time to cut a large number of tiles to insure he had the right sizes. When he did not have enough grout, Casey drove down to Fullerton from Park Ridge to get more so we could get the job finished that day. He was very meticulous and when he was not happy with the way the tile was looking because of the bowed walls, he removed it and reset it. I appreciated his attention to detail and desire to get the job done correctly. We are thrilled with the results and intend on using him for another project.
Description of Work: ProGress Painting and Remodeling installed 1x2 inch glass tiles on the entire backsplash of our kitchen. The walls in our 1926 house were oneven and bowed. There were several locations in the kitchen that were only 2 to 4 inches wide which required the tile.

Each part of the process was handled in a timely and efficient manner, from bid process through the project completion. The old bathroom in our second floor apartment was removed to the studs, and new drywall, tile, plumbing and electrical fixtures were installed. Our entryway was remodeled with new drywall and paint. This project was started and finished without interuption. During the project, which took one week, we had almost daily contact with Casey about the project. We appreciated this open communication, as there was no guessing about what was being done, and when it would be done. During the bathroom remodeling an electrical issue came up which required additional wiring not covered in our contract. This issue was taken care of efficiently and was priced fairly. Most important was the quality of the work. It was excellent and we were very pleased. All the elements for a successful project were evident, timeliness, efficiency, professionalism, and quality. I definitely recommend this company and will use them for future projects.

We were watching Progress for the past six months, during my neighbors remodeling/second floor addition project. I was impressed how everything was organized and the quality of the work. We decided to hire Progress Remodeler to do our remodeling/back addition project. Even though we saw Progress’s remodeling work, we decided to take another estimate. Progress’ price fit into our budget. Progress built a 14 by 23 back home addition and remodeled the entire first floor and part of the second floor. The work included: major plumbing work, installation of two new high-efficiency furnaces, replacement of the water heater, and a complete redesign of the first floor bathroom. Progress also helped us design and build a new kitchen, install new hardwood flooring and refinish existing flooring, paint the entire house, build a 13’ x 18’ deck, and a 22 ‘x 22/ garage. Working with Casey was a pleasurable experience. Casey promptly returned all our inquiries. Casey is full of ideas and helped us a lot with making our decisions. The time frame of the project was met. I had daily updates on the progress. Casey and his crews were very professional. The cleanup was managed well. My punch list was addressed immediately upon completion. They did an outstanding job. I would use Progress Painting and Remodeling for any future projects and was very pleased with the job that was done.

We had 3 estimates. Progress' estimate was not the cheapest one but they also not the most expensive one. We hired Progress, because Casey was extremely professional in his presentation. He provided a detailed estimate. Casey's crew showed up everyday 8:00 am, and worked till 5:30 pm. They started in the kitchen, 2 walls, drywall and plaster were removed. When the walls were removed, they found our plumbing to be in bad condition. Casey's plummer replaced those pipes, even though it wasn't included in the contract (It was very nice of them to do that). After the installation of the cabinets and appliances in the kitchen, while we were waiting for the granite counter top, they started working on the bathrooms. One bathroom was completely remodeled. Second one we replaced tile, vanity and install new plumbing fixtures. Work with Progress was smooth and enjoyable for us. We will definitely hire Progress in the future, and we will also recommend Progress to our friends and relatives.

Work took more than double the originally promised time. We would never get a call telling us that, though. We would have to check on the progress of the work and then call them and ask if they were going to make the targeted completion date.` Additionally, the tubs were not put in level so they leak onto the floor, the tiles began to crack within weeks, the paint job was done poorly, one of the sinks is pulling away from the wall, the grout is cracking, and holes were left in the walls. When we asked the company to repair these items per their one year warranty, Casey refused and even tried to give us an additional bill for the original work in order to cover projected warranty repairs. To this day (over a year later), these items were never repaired by Progress. We ended up having to file complaints with Angie's List, the BBB, and finally take them to court through the Chicago Department of Consumer Services before we received any compensation. We received a court-ordered partial refund ($3,200) at the same time we found out that they were in violation of a number of city/state laws (no license, etc.). Through the complaint resolution process, we have finally resolved the situation and can move on.
Description of Work: Two complete bathroom remodels and a few laundry room improvements were scheduled. Bathroom remodels included uninstalling all original bathroom items (down to the cement floor and drywall/studs), and replacing all fixtures (sinks, toilets, tubs, mirrors), faucets, tiling, painting, and some electrical work. The two bathrooms were identical and done at the same time, with each bathroom being approximately 5' by 7'. The laundry room improvements were to install washer hookups, replace the utility sink, and perform some tile repairs. Work was to take two weeks.
