Grohe Kitchen Faucet Repair - as it barely allowed out water I had gotten some parts from Grohe and did some initial simpler fixes and activities and nothing worked. And the phone support at Grohe felt it was time for a professional John came out and was very familiar with the sink faucet and this type problem. After he learned what I had already done/tried - he did a few more simpler things and made one more effort to more quickly get at the "clog - the block". Did not work. Then, to get the job done he removed the faucet (in just a few minutes) - found the clog - a piece of gasket rubber too large to get through a few internal "openings." He reached it and removed it and then put it back together (even with one needed new Grohe part that was not a perfect match for this older Grohe plus. He showed knowledge and ability
Description of Work: This is written late - as I noticed today I had not posted. Power did work for us in June of 2015 on a Grohe kitchen faucet about 10 years old which refused to have sufficient volume.

The service was contracted by Power's manager, Rae Lyn, who is familiar with my building, especially its condition of high water pressure, since another tenant is having work done. She told me to purchase the item from a plumbing supply store, which would deliver it to Power. However, when the plumber, who was acquainted with the building, arrived, I was told that the hot water dispenser and tank could not withstand the high water pressure and would break, causing a flood. He promised to return the item to the supply store but failed to do so. Over the next 4 days, I contacted Power and the supply store to follow up on the return. I was promised that the item would be returned that very day at noon or by the end of the day. Today, I told Power that I would stop by to pick up the item and return it myself. Paul, who, I was told, was the "head of "customer service," brought the item to me and started with his usual explanation. I merely reply, without raising my voice: "Please no excuses." He shouted back at me: "Why you ungrateful *******! Don't call us again." This is truly abuse of the customer, adding insult to injury, since the manager, knowing the building, should never have recommended that I have this item installed -- perhaps she did so to drum up unnecessary business -- and subsequently failed to follow through on its promise to return the item. I will never call this company again.

Spoke with Stephanie who promised to get back to me in the morning, one way or the other. Stephanie called right back and let me know that the plumber was on his way. Plumber arrived in less than an hour and repaired the leak. Very impressed with Stephanie, the plumber James, and Power Plumbing and Sewer! A++++!

Awesome! After the assessment of the faucet, when they found out I was getting ready to move out and rent my condo, they took a super fast look around to make sure other things were in stable condition. They even gave advice on how to fix the leaky sink on our own instead of hiring a plumber for a second time.

Overall, the work was done very well, and the installers were friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive. They cleaned up a mess of old galvanized pipes and left us with a clean, logical installation and no leaks. They did not try to upsell us on anything, but they did bring a few things to our attention that were justifiably in need of additional work and gave us the choice to move forward or wait. They were not the low bidder, but really they weren't that much higher than everyone else, and they were the only ones who looked at the entire project comprehensively before issuing an estimate. They also worked their tails off over the course of a single day in an attempt to minimize interruption of our daily schedules. That being said, they did end up having to come back the next day to correct an error that had been made with the riser piping. Hot and cold lines were reversed. It was not part of the plan, but accidents happen even with the best professionals. Despite the error, it should be known that Power Plumbing came back and made it right astonishingly quickly. By early afternoon the next day the problem was completely fixed. That was very much appreciated, and I'm not sure how many other contractors would have been able to act that quickly. If there was one minor criticism to make about our experience, it would be about communications between the customer, office, and field guys. I was never really sure who my e-mails were reaching, and it wasn't until a missed appointment and wasted afternoon occurred that I started to get in direct contact with the technician who was doing our work. The rest of the time it was all being funneled through the main office as a form of dispatch and forwarding. The office staff were always very nice and pleasant to deal with, though. Again, very much appreciated.
Description of Work: Replace old galvanized pipes with new copper pipes from meter to water heater and at one set of hot/cold risers to 2nd floor bathroom.

Power plumbing took advantage of my pregnant wife on a house call to diagnose a shower that didn't get hot. They were unclear about how the total cost of the service would be calculated, did not explain options along with their costs clearly, and ended up taking 4.5 hours + an expensive part that was more than 40% cheaper next door at Home Depot. Total bill was over $800 and the shower still doesn't get hot consistently. We have found the same type of job in our area should cost between $200-400 with parts and labor. Their owner has yelled at us and blamed us repeatedly when we have challenged the bill and brought up the shower not working. they have shown no interest in trying to solve an issue for the customer. I would never recommend them to anyone.

Regrettably you've misstated and misrepresented all of the facts in this situation so we'll use this opportunity to clear the air and publicly explain exactly what transpired as we are a family-owned company who been in business since 1960 and pride ourselves on our reputation in the community. Your wife called into our office service for two independent issues: a shower faucet with low hot water pressure and a clogged lavatory sink. Our in-house service professionals took the call and in accordance with our company policies, clearly [Member Information Removed] our standard hourly labor rates and policies, to which your wife verbally agreed to, so an appointment was arranged. On the date of the appointment, our licensed plumber arrived on-site and immediately begun working on the lavatory and made the repair. Upon completion, plumber made minor adjustments to the guest bath toilet to restore proper function. Your wife asked about 2 other issues that she rated as lower priority, taking 30 minutes. Our plumber began work on your Grohe shower faucet, dismantling and cleaning the excessive amounts of sediment, however the temperature would not adjust properly so it was determined that the thermostatic cartridge and stops would require replacement. Our plumber explained our process of sourcing the parts from our local materials supplier who provides contractor-grade parts. We do not source materials from big box stores as they don't meet our standards for quality/availability. Our plumber explained to your wife that he could leave the parts required for replacement with her so she could purchase these on her own and [Member Information Removed] us return for installation. He estimated that she might save $150.00 in doing so. She was also given the option of having our plumber bring parts required for replacement to our supplier and informed that if she chose this option, that time would be billable including the drive-time (address of supplier was provided to her) and return time. Your wife chose to have our plumber go. Our plumber called your wife from the supplier and provided the pricing of the replacement parts for approval of purchase, to which she agreed. Upon return to your home, our plumber installed the replacement parts and adjusted the valve so that the water temperature matched the index on the handle. Our plumber then wrote up a detailed job ticket and presented this to your wife for payment. She provided him with a credit card for payment which was run and approved. Our plumber then left your home, work completed and received payment. Your wife then called our office, and demanded that she not be charged for the 1/2 hour of billable time during which she discussed future work with our plumber. As a [Member Information Removed] courtesy, we refunded that 1/2 hour. You then called in to our after-hours answering service [Member Information Removed] night and proceeded to berate the operator using profanity [Member Information Removed] the charges. We called you and your wife on a conference with the plumber who had been on-site and reviewed everything in an effort to be clear on what transpired. Your wife refused to acknowledge anything and would not answer our directed questions as to whether anything was explained to her. We offered to send out the plumber or any of our other licensed plumbers to revisit the work done and ensure the fixture is fully functional, yet you refused our offer. The resolution you demanded was a refund of $400 and you [Member Information Removed] that you would try to ruin our online reputation by posting negative reviews. We [Member Information Removed] 36 Angie's List Super Service Awards with over 1000 Grade "A" reports, our Better Business Bureau is "A", and we [Member Information Removed] a 4.5 rating on Yelp. A business has to earn a reputation for performing high quality work and [Member Information Removed] service and we're happy to say that we've worked hard to earn every one of these. It's unfortunate that even with clear directives and communication that you feel justified in your actions. We wish you the best in securing a new plumbing company to call upon in the future.

Hire this company! I contracted with this company after reading several reviews on Angie's List. I chose this company partly because it is a family-owned business. I was not disappointed. I received a call saying that the plumber was running late and that the appointment would be delayed. I didn't mind the delay but really appreciated the call to alert me to the delay. (It was a Friday afternoon.) Erik, the plumber was professional, courteous, efficient and explained things as he went along. He checked and double-checked the toilets to make sure there were no leaks when he finished the work. All of my experiences through Angie's List have been positive and I will add this to my list of contractors to call in the future.

After comparing a couple different plumbers on Angie’s List, I decided on Power Plumbing because they were in business since 1964, they were a family owned business, and they were close to my location. I started my communication with Power using the Angie’s List tool. I provided three possible dates and times. I explained the issue that needed to be fixed. Rae from Power replied and we did some phone tag for at least a day. My issue was that there seemed to be something that was plugging up the toilet. When I would flush it would not flush completely. Water was either coming from the bottom of the toilet or it would over flow from the bowl. Rae provided the cost per hour. The time starts when the plumber “leaves” their location. There is a minimum one hour charge. The rate I was provided was $160.00/hr. We finalized on a good day and time with a 8 am arrive time. Informed Rae where they could park their truck because the truck was about 10 feet high. I also requested a copy of their insurance which Rae emailed a copy prior to the visit. On the day of the visit Rae called at 7:45 am and left a message stating they were ready to send the Plumber, Eric, out. They need my verbal confirmation before he was sent out and when the timer of the first hour would start. I did appreciate that process. I call back at 7:51 am and she said Eric will be leaving shortly (8:15 am) and would arrive around 8:30 am. Eric called when he was around the corner and arrived approximately at 8:45 am. He apologized for his tardiness because his boss at the shop was sharing some information preventing him from leaving at 8:15 am.Let me cut to the chase. Eric did a great job. Eric was polite, respectful of my house and bathroom, friendly, and hard working. During the first hour we uncovered it was not a simple toilet unplugging job. We discovered that in the pipe below the toilet, there was a 2x4x2 in piece of wood lodged approximately two feet down at the base of the pipe. I live in a condo and we were the first owner after the building was finished and we been living here 5 years. Eric had to do some “MacGyvering” to get the obstruction out. After reseating the toilet inside the tank, he made sure the Mansfield water refill tube connecting to the Flush Valve stack seated properly. The whole process was 2.5 hours. I received a 10% discount for being an Angie’s List customer. There was $72 cost for a new Gasket for the base of the toilet. Total cost was $442.00. I would recommend Power Plumbing. I felt I got my money’s worth because I was able to show my wife it was not a simple issue and we needed a to find the right professional to help solve the problem.

Erik and Gabriel worked really great as a team together. Erik also explained everything to me and I have a new, deeper understanding on how the plumbing works in our house now. Previous plumbing companies we have used never though to check if we had more than 1 drain branch in our house. Thus, they never rodded the branch for the 2nd/3rd floor. We will definitely be switching to Power Plumbing from now on for all our regular maintenance. They also explained how I could fix a small hole myself to save money and to prevent sewer gas.
Description of Work: We were having leaking from the bottom of our basement walls whenever someone used water on the 2nd or 3rd floors. I put out 6 or 7 calls on a Sunday afternoon to get someone out on Monday. One place called to say they could come on Tuesday. I happen to live near Power Plumbing so I walked in there. They were so nice, and Rae explained everything. They said they would try to get someone out on Monday. 2 hours later, Rae called me and said they would be out in 1/2 hour! Erik and Gabriel came out and got to the bottom of the problem. They rodded out the line and removed a large tree root. In 1 1/2 hours, everything was cleaned up working again.

Great. Our original plumbers were contractors from Home Depot. It was a disaster. They had to come back 4 times to install our new hot water heater. I thought something was wrong and it was bothering me. When my neighbors were having their hot water heater replaced, I asked her plumbers from Power to come take a look at mine. He noticed immediately what was wrong and offered a solution. He quoted me a price on the spot and told me exactly what he needed to do. I called the next day and set an appointment. He fixed the work and it drains now. Scott did an awesome job.

I emailed them my concern below, and they completely ignored my email. From reading online and talking to some experienced friends and realtors, thawing pipes should not take more than $100-$150 per hour. However, I paid $945 for the service. My house is a small single family home, with only two floors - each only around 500 sq ft. Mike charged us 3 hours of service when he and his associate were there closer to two hours. In my tenant's words: "Essentially they charged for 3 hours of time for 2 plumbers. I did ask him why he billed 3 hours when it was closer to two and he stated travel time is included in billable hours." Usually contractors do not bill travel time - and even if they do, it will not be at the consulting rate of $270/hour for two people, which is absolutely outrageous. Also, according from the website and our initial call to Power Plumbing, the company should provide "free estimates" -- however, again, it seems like your associates have charged us for the time when they were assessing the situation. We paid $945 for thawing service, or in other words -- warming up my house. You can look back at the description of the service performed in the receipt. Was it absolutely necessary that there be two plumbers on that day? If it was to shut off the main valve, my tenant Ajit could have done it with some simple instructions. And once Mike and his associate found out no pipes have burst and that they can't fully remedy the issues, do they still need two people on the site? The combination of having two plumbers on-site and charging a total of 3 instead of 2 hours have inflated the bill astronomically. I was billed close to $1000 for the little service that was done. Essentially, it cost close to $1000 to just warm the house up, defrost some ice and thaw the pipes - yet the very next day, part of the pipes in the basement got frozen again. I understand it was not their fault the pipes freeze - but at the same time, it seems kind of unreasonable that it costs 1K to just warm the place up and put in a simple T-piece (which did not help the situation since the next day pipes froze again). If Mike and his associates had to break into the walls, rewire some plumbings, etc.. then that price point seems more reasonable. However, that was not the case, and I feel unfairly charged for the minimal service that was performed.

Made an appointment on 7/6/2015 and set a date and time, 7/17, for a two man crew to rod out and check with their camera scope devise to make sure it was completely clear. Making the appointment was fast and prices were explained re: equipment and personnel required. Office personnel was courteous and helpful and called to remind us of appointment date and time. We have done business with Power Plumbing since 2010 on various plumbing jobs both large and small and found them to do excellent work. John and James arrived on time, set to work immediately, explained process and worked for 2 hours and rodded out an accumulation of leaves, tree roots, and a piece of ancient gutter that had slipped down into the drain tile. They showed me on the camera scope how water was now draining to the main sewer line and made sure the roots were flushed out. It was great to see first hand how things were working underground. Owning an old house makes you appreciate skilled work when it done right the first time. We will certainly use Power Plumbing again in the future and hope they will send back the same team to complete future repair projects.
Description of Work: Power Plumbers (James and John) rodded out outside downspout drain to the main sewer line of our 100 year old house. We have lived in house for the last 43 years and never had it done before so with a new roof, gutters and downspouts we needed no clogs or slow drainage. Testing out the drainage by placing a water hose down the tile had shown it was draining very slowly.

We always have a good experience with Power - have been using them for over 20 years. This time was no exception. When the plumber started work he found that there was less to do than originally planned. He let me know AND the price was reduced. I am not a plumber and would never have known that less was being done, but they are honest and ethical and so they let me know. The work area was left clean and we are happy with what was done. Can't wait to have them come back and install the sink once the rest of the work is done.

It took awhile to get started due to other jobs, but once started they stayed at it until completed. I was always informed on what they found, what they were going to do and shown the work after it was done. Their work will outlast the house.
Description of Work: Repair failing catch basin and broken drains leading into and out catch basin. Backfill eroded area surrounding catch basin with gravel. Camera drains for other possible collapse. Rebuild top of catch basin with new cap. Repair broken sidewalk with new concrete surrounding catch basin.

We just love them and they have been really great for us. We have used them on several different projects since we bought the house. They had to repair the sewer outtake for the basement bathroom. We knew it was damaged and leaking and wasn't able to fix it because it meant drilling into the concrete so we waited on it for a couple years. We finally saved up enough to have it done. It cost $3000.00 and they came out and did it and it should have cost more. There ended up being another problem that they had to fix but they stuck to their original estimate. Replaced the 2 joints for the sewer outtake and replaced the pipe from the toilet to that joint that was rusted out. It was a type of metal you wasn't suppose to use and then they incased it in concrete which you are not suppose to do so they to completely take out that chunk as well. They are honest, fair and educate you on what is going on. If you ask them questions they are more than happy to tell you everything that they are doing. The price is not the cheapest on the block but they are very fair.
Description of Work: Fixed the basement bathroom sewer that connects to the house.

I called them approximately 9 am about checking three water heaters in a building I won. I told them what I needed and received a call back from their office with an hour, Their union plumber called me when he arrived and inspected the property in about an hour. Work was need to be done and the price quoted for labor and materials was discussed and met in the final bill. I can not recommend this company highly enough for their integrity, work and pricing.

My natural gas provider shut off the gas service due to a gas leak. Since I was out of town I instructed my tenant to contact a plumber to repair the leak. He contacted Power Plumbing & Sewer Inc. and was told that 2 plumbers would be sent with a minimum charge of $810.00 for 2 hrs. The service rate was high but not being in town I instructed the tenant to go ahead with PP&S. I estimated that the repairs couldn?t take more than 2 hours based on my 25 years plus experience as landlord and having dealt with similar situations in the past. The total time the plumbers took to complete the job was 5½ hours at total cost of $2,362.50. Since I was not in town to dispute the charges, the invoice was paid by the tenant. On my return to Chicago, I checked the work done by PP&S. The job performed confirmed to me that it couldn?t have taken at the most three hrs. I called two licensed plumbers to give me their professional assessment on the maximum time that the repair should have taken. Their opinion was that at the most the work should have taken 3 hours and that it was overcharged. I went in person to the PP&S office where I spoke to Ms. Vizza who identified herself as the office manager. I explained that the service performed was substantially over charged. Ms. Vizza explained that it was due to the cost of 2 licensed plumbers. However, the licensed plumbers I contacted told me that it should be 1 licensed plumber and an apprentice. She offered to refund me $400. Several days later I went back to PP&S and spoke to Ms.Vizza & Joe, who identified himself as the owner. I asked him about the plumber charges and the excessive hours charged. He said that the reason that he had to send two licensed plumbers was that he didn?t have an apprentice to send at that time. He didn?t want to discuss at all the matter of excessive hours charged. In my opinion I don?t think that I should have to pay the additional charge of a second licensed plumber. Furthermore, I should not have been charged the excessive hours that the plumbers took to complete the repair.

The individual I spoke to was very helpful and took time to answer all of my questions. He referred me to a company that they have worked with in the past to have our catch basin vacuumed out. I told him about our basin & the lack of care that it has received from the previous home owner. He then explained how the basin should be vacuumed, cleaned and scraped and that the company he was referring would perform these items. The company he referred me to explained the job precisely as Power had and we now have an appointment scheduled. Thank you Power Plumbing!
Description of Work: I called Power Plumbing to inquire about having our catch basin vacuumed. They do not do this service but recommended a company that does.
