Description of Work: In order to close my house on time, I had to have some last-minute repairs. Power Plumbing came out promptly, even though I didn't give them much lead time. They made the repairs and were prepared to go the extra step of certifying for the buyer that the plumbing was generally in good shape. The best part was that I needed an electrician to come out the next day, Sunday. They gave me the name of an electrician (father and son) who came out on a Sunday, one day's notice. The excellent and reasonably priced electricians are E & W Installers, Inc., (Pat Walsh Sr. & Jr.), 7232 W. Coyle, Chicago (773).443-4681. But without the help of Power Plumbing for the reference I would never had gotten the work done on time.

Description of Work: First of all, I called the company at 9:30 am. I was barely out of the shower and dressed when they showed up at the door at like 10:15. We had some minor plumbing repairs; leaky toilet, running toilet, slow draining sink and drains that were never properly installed in the bathrooms. Fixed in a jiffy, no problem. However, our downstairs pump was the major issue. It was not only broken but water and all other kinds of crap, literally, had accumulated. Patrick was amazing. This was a dirty job. But he tackled it with such a positive attitude and was extremely conscientious of trying to contain the mess. He even volunteered to clean the floors. But for the love of God, he had done enough dirty work for the day. Are these guys good......yes. Customer oriented......you bet. Would I use them again...........in a heart beat. Description of Work: Used the company twice in one week to fix two leaky faucets in two different homes. They were pleasant, on time, value driven, and did quality work.

Description of Work: Guys at power plumbing were great. Had a major blockage in the sewer drain. They tarped off the laundry room and laid down tarps across the floor. Mike and Bob didn't give up and had to cancel their afternoon calls to keep at it. Both guys had a great attitude throughout the day even it though it appeared we might need to dig up the front yard to access the pipe. Total time to finish the job was 7 hours. This is the second time Power Plumbing completed a job for us. First time was for misc plumbing jobs around the house, such as fixing a bathroom fixture and a spigot on the front of the house. Overall, very pleased with the team at Power Plumbing.

Description of Work: Power Plumbing installed a replacement valve for the toilet and it was leaking shortly afterwards. Set up a follow up appt for today and it was scheduled between 10 & 2. The plumber called this morning and said it would be closer to 2 and that he would call 20 minutes before arrival. Not hearing from him at 2:30, I called back. He said he ran into a problem on his current job and it would be another hour or two. That did not work for our schedule. Due to their high prices, lack of quality workmanship and unresponsiveness, we will not be using this company again!

Description of Work: We have been having problems with sewer odor, and I was desperate. I called Power despite the Angie's List warnings about their high cost because I wanted the best. I was told I'd need two guys because they'd need to rod. They did not need to rod - so I paid two guys $425 to pour peppermint oil down a toilet and determine that the leak was coming from a particular basement corner. I knew that already. I was also worried that the clean-out T looked kind of jury-rigged and they agreed I should replace it. I was frustrated by the cost of this diagnosis, but they seemed with it and had a grand plan to fix the problem. First, just in case, they were going to run a camera in the pipe out to the street to make sure that there was nothing wrong there, then drill up the corner of the basement where they thought the odor was emanating. It would be expensive $2300 - $2600, but we were prepared to do it. However, after they left, I had a question about the estimate (would they repair the concrete?). I called back and the person who answered the phone couldn't tell me and no one called back. So I emailed, and still got no response. Thank goodness, it turns out. In frustration, I tried a plumber my neighbor recommended (also A rated here, but I'm not sure what that's worth given this experience). They said there is no need to replace the clean-out T unless we have had leaks (and we haven't). They also explained that it was very unlikely the problem was the line out to the street, so they felt there was no need to charge me for camera work just yet. Finally, they noted that the peppermint test wasn't precise enough - we didn't know exactly where under the concrete the odor was leaking from. They did a smoke test, and bingo, we got the spot, we could see the smoke coming out - and it was not where PP was planning to dig! The smoke test and repair work will cost well under $1,000. I would have spent more 2.5X as much with PP and not even solved the problem. These guys seem to be riding their reputation, and my review here is certainly not going to drag down their average. But I am writing this review because I am appalled at the amount they charged me for service that turned out to be worth absolutely nothing, and I feel like I dodged a bullet when I called in someone else instead.

Description of Work: Had problem with kitchen sink backing up at 4 pm on New Year's Ever. Power Plumbing sent 2 excellent plumbers who worked with both my neighbor and I (muliple unit building) to unclog drains and fix problem for the building. They were very professional and friendly and explained everything they did.

Description of Work: Power Plumbing has been doing all my plumbing work for more than 10 years. This past year, they replaced my hot water heaters (there are two), repaired the stack, and repaired drainage in my gangway. Power is not cheap. But I don't care. They are professional, efficient, totally reliable, and kind. If they tell me something needs to be done, it needs to be done, and they spend time figuring out how to do things in a way that minimizes the amount of time. I could not continue to live in my 125 year old house without them. I am so grateful for their fine service.

Description of Work: I called to inquire whether I actually needed a plumber or not, since I was having sewer gas odors in my condo, but coming through my washer/dryer stack (oddly enough). Not only were they really helpful and walked me through several investigative ideas before coming out, they proposed a simple solution which turned out to do the trick. It actually involved a drain pipe from my HVAC stack. They spent 20 minutes on the phone with me and didn't charge me a dime. Next time I have a legitimate issue I'll definitely give them a call.

Description of Work: I'm the President of a condo association in downtown Chicago and regularly (every 6 months) hire contractors for various projects on our building. I was excited to use Angie's List for the first time and selected a plumber from the list with 265 reviews and a great rating. We needed multiple quotes for a system to prevent sewer backflow and I had already had one plumbing company fail to show up for an appointment- surprising because our project is going to cost roughly $10k-$15k. When I called Power Plumbing & Sewer I was told that the plumber would call me to set up an apt. to check out the building and provide a quote. They then asked that I answer the phone when the plumber calls from a number I would not recognize because it irritates him when clients don't answer and he has to leave a voicemail. Without going into the various reasons why I found that request unusual and unprofessional, I asked if they knew when he was going to call so I could answer- they did not know. The plumber did manage to leave a voicemail and we set up an apt. for the following week. I left work two hours early to meet the plumber at my condo building and was forced to call him 30 min after the apt. time to ask if he was caught in traffic. He said that he had another emergency job he had to take care of, although he did not sound like he was present at a job site. He failed to take 2 minutes to call me about the alleged emergency. Needless to say I did not schedule a 2nd apt. I gave a "D" rating rather than an "F" because they did not actually perform any work. I would estimate that 20% of all contractors I have called over the last 5 years have either failed to return calls or failed to show for appointments on projects that would bring them $5k-$15k of revenue. I was hoping to avoid this issue by going with a company that had hundreds of solid ratings from others. Lazy employees can find there way into any company, but there are plenty of companies to choose from in Chicago and my experience with the plumber and the secretary for this company was unprofessional and unpleasant.

Description of Work: Bathtub drain clogged. Due to unusual existing plumbing job required cutting through drywall to expose access door. Actual clog clearing took about 5 minutes.

Description of Work: Power promptly dispatched John Morzy to clean and reseal a sump pump and fix a leaky toilet. John was extremely friendly and competent. He explained everything and corrected sloppy work done by another vendor. I highly recommend Power Plumbing based on this experience.

Description of Work: Sewers were backing up and causing to leak sewage outside our house. Power plumbing was honest and trustworthy, quick and reasonable. I highly recommend and would use them again.

Description of Work: These guys were terrific! On a terribly cold Sunday in January the two Mikes came out in less than an hour after being called. They were very professional and prompt. I didn't have any running water in my 2-flat. They spent over an hour trying to thaw my pipes. After that didn't work they went to the meter box in my front lawn. I felt so sorry for them working in such horrible temperatures. They pulled the meter and discovered that it had frozen and then it broke. They managed to get my water running again. It took them overall 3-hours, from start to finish. I know I only gave them a "good" on price but I know hiring people on Sunday prices can get very expensive. I'm sure other companies would've probably charged just as much but the two other companies I called never called back!

Description of Work: We called the contractor for an estimate on Thursday 2/2/11 the ansewring service took a message, the call was returned on Friday 2/4/11 requested an appointment for an estimate. We informed them our street had been plowed and we had water in our basement ,which probably needed rodding and that we were Angie's list members. The gentleman stated they would not come out until next week unless it was an emergency and the cost would be $261.00 /hr . We were very disturbed about the cost for a simple rodding . We rented a rodder ourselves and paid $65.00 for 24 hours at home depot ! Thanks for nothing Power Plumbing !

Description of Work: Power Plumbing has, since we first contacted them, performed a number of services for us. Their work and their costumer service have been exemplary. We had one plumber out to look at and take care of various small plumbing issues on our 4 unit property. Each unit had several minor problems and he spent several hours investigating each one of them, and fixing whatever he could. He was very patient, deliberate, thorough, and personable. We had two other guys out (Jason and Bill-I think were their names) to install new plumbing lines and gas lines for a new kitchen, and they returned later to to install new appliances for the unit. They did an excellent job and also got to the bottom of a bad sewerage smell that had been going on in the unit for several years. After much troubleshooting they eventually found a broken sewer pipe and replaced it. We appreciated not only their great work on the new plumbing and gas but also their willingness to look for the source of the smell and help us get rid of it. Out of several workers we'd brought in to try and fix the problem they were the only ones who actually did! We also recently had a problem with our catchbasin, we called power plumbing who sent someone out immediately. Although the catchbasin issue was not something they could fix, they we able to diagnose the problem and refer us to a company who could take care of it for us. We will be using power plumbing for all future plumbing work and will highly recommend them to anyone who asks.

Description of Work: These guys are the best plumbers we've ever experienced, bar none. We've used them now maybe 4 or 5 times in the last 3 years to repair various plumbing related issues. Once was a sump pump and basement valve replacement, once was a leaking sink, and this time was a leaking in-wall valve for an outdoor hose spigot that had burst from the cold. In every instance they are very knowledgeable and professional. They are prompt and easy to schedule.
