The work was wonderful. This antique find was refinished in a fashion that kept its character but made it serviceable.

It's not so much about the interesting pieces he has in the front of the store, it's about what he does in the back 2/3 of his space. To say Yury is some kind of craftsman genius is an understatement. I had a pair of huge and very heavy turn-of-the-century iron gates that needed work so they could be put on my deck in lieu of lattice. This required attaching 2 finials that had fallen off, RECREATING a missing finial from scratch to match the others, taking off 2 posts to straighten and re-attach, take the moss off, clean them, and re-paint and protect them to look aged. They turned out perfectly, and he rushed them because he knew I was in a bind with timing. I'm so happy to have stumbled upon Yury. He is an amazing craftsman and can do anything to refurbish or make new. When I was there he was re-creating an intricate wood design on a chair that was missing to match the other furniture pieces. I also drove by some amazing wrought iron fences and gates he made from scratch -- amazing talent.

An all around good experience. We had gotten a number of quotes on re-stuffing our couch. Yuri was the most reasonable. Unlike most couches where you can re-stuff the cushions, this couch required a complete disassembly and reconstruction. Yuri appeared when he said he would and assessed the situation for free (others would charge up to $100.00 to come to assess the job). Yuri took the couch to his workshop, completed the job ahead of schedule, and took pictures of the various stages in the rebuild process that he showed to me upon delivery of the couch. I was very impressed by his attentiveness, professionalism, quality of work and his promptness.

I had a list of small projects that I wanted done. The price they came back with was more than I could afford, so I passed. A month or two later, the guy called and said he could do better on the price. I had completed several of the list items, but I did want someone with experience to tighten up six old back doors. He said he could do it, gave me a price I agreed to and proceeded. He got four of them done and it was late in the day, so he said he would come back to do the other two. He never came back, never called. I won't bother with them again.
Description of Work: I hired him to patch the corners of six old outside doors (we own an apartment building) so they would close tight against the weatherstripping.. He only completed four of them. The work was adequate; could have been better.
Description of Work: I have used Pilsen Gallery (Yury) for about 15 years. They have crafted a wine cellar, restored a huge range of antiques - tables, carved doors, chairs - in some instances performing miracles. He has just brought a biedermeier table with a damaged and warped veneer top back to life. Yury is amazingly talented, an artist as well as a craftsman, who takes a great pride in his work. He is completely trustworthy - I allow him to work alone in my house if a project requires it. I recommend him very highly.

They seemed too limited in their tools and the manpower that they had. They are a quality company I would say. If I had something I did not need at a specific time right away, I think they would be a good person to use. They gave me an estimate saying it would be 15% that they could offer as a discount, but being that I got two other estimates where the prices were about the same without a the same discount, it is questionable whether they were actually giving me a deal.
Description of Work: They came to see the furniture I needed refinished and I also went to their store.

Don't be fooled by the shop name -- these guys are top notch contractors. They figured out causes that a professional structural engineer could not find. All work was performed well. Pilsen Gallery's wide range of skills proved very useful on our job -- masonry, finish carpentry, drywall, and minor electrical.
Description of Work: Diagnosing cause of settling of stone facade of 122 year old house, which caused windows and doors not to close properly. Discovering missing layer of interior brick inside front wall (which structural engineer failed to find). Recommending abatement plan. Installing two steel beams above and in plane of basement door, and main entry door, to shore up facade. Interior masonry tuckpointing on one wall, all four levels of house, including replacing missing layer of common brick. Involved removal of drywall, grinding, mortaring, replacing drywall, priming and painting. Finish carpentry on mahogany entry door system to accommodate house settling, including adjusting framing for irregular shape, both interior and exterior. Staining and finishing. Finish carpentry on oak window frames to accommodate house settling, including adjusting framing for irregular shape. Replacement of in-wall burnt wiring for back porch light.
