The experience was very positive, estimate was prompt and very reasonable, company representative accommadating, friendly and knowledgable. The job, completed in three days, went smoothly, efficiently, and without surprises. The outcome lovely as expected, and I plan to use them again to do more work in the near future.
Description of Work: Refinished built-in wood bookcase/cabinets, caked in layers and layers of paint over decades of time. Buried electrical wiring and outlet inside of cabinet (had been outside and hideously exposed.) Ordered and installed glass shelves for bookcases.

The chairs seem to be the best shape they have been in for decades. The price was quite reasonable and the communication from the company was excellent. I am very pleased. A few years ago someone else had refinished the kitchen set for me and supposedly fixed the chairs but they were never solid after that job. This time I feel they will serve well for many years to come.

The man showed up on time. He was a hard worker. He had many different types of machines and there was no damage to the house. No chemicals on the carpet and no chemical smell. It all went well.

Wow... how refreshing to see a business stand behind their committment to see a job to completion. Last fall, Pete power washed, sanded and then put one coat of stain on our two decks. Unfortunately, the stain they used did not match the color that we had both agreed upon. Going back to Cabot (the stain company), Peter was basically told by Cabot they could have a few gallons of new stain but they would not do anything about our miscolored deck. Without asking us for additional payment, Peter's men restriped the stain off both decks and each of the individual wooden dowels before restaining it the correct color. In essence, they did the job twice to make sure it was done correctly. We can not speak highly enough about them and the work the do. They are OUTSTANDING and our deck looks great, even after one of the toughest winters in many years.
Description of Work: Clean, sand, power wash and stain two decks.

Very rarely have I been 100% happy with work that has been done in our house, but I have nothing but good things to say about Peter's Wood Refinishing. I called for an estimate and Peter and his wife came out the next day. We scheduled the work to begin the first week in January and we were told it would take 4 weeks. Peter's crew showed up every day on time and worked very hard. They were respectful of our furniture, very friendly and cleaned up after themselves as much as possible each day. They even offered to help my husband and I move furniture one day after they were through. They completed the job early and the woodwork looks amazing! Peter even had a cleaning crew come in after the workers were done to clean up all the sawdust. We plan on hiring Peter and his crew to finish the woodwork in the upstairs.
Description of Work: Stripped, sanded and stained all existing woodwork and doors in our dining room, living room, foyer and staircase. Completed repair work as needed.

I originally asked for an estimate on a tiny little entryway. Aricelli, who provided the estimate, was prompt, arriving on time the day after the huge Chicago snowstorm. She was professional and communicated the company's real love for working with wood. The price they quoted was not the very cheapest, but it was one of the more reasonable estimates, and I decided to go with Peter's. They were excellent. The job they did far exceeded previous wood stripping and refinishing I'd had done. They were also able to provide some missing pieces from their own stock. And they were careful and CLEAN. The downside? The job they did made the rest of the living room look bad by comparison. So I asked them back, and they did an excellent job again, on my entire living room?minus windows. I'm having them back for that next year. I look forward to hiring them again, as soon as possible, to restore more of my home. The only caution I can think might be necessary: make sure you tell them if you want them to use nontoxic materials. They are glad to do so if asked.
Description of Work: I contracted Peter's Wood Refinishing to provide an estimate for stripping the woodwork in my very tiny entryway. Then I hired them to strip and refinish the entryway. A week later I hired them to do the same for the baseboard and door frames in my fairly large living room. they also provided matching wood for some missing baseboard and for the dorrframe for my front door.

I chose Peter's from Angie's list, mainly because he was willing to come to my house and pick up the chairs. He was also a bit less expensive than another person i called. The owner came within a few days of my call, gave me a reasonable estimate, including an Angie's list discount, and took five chairs with him. Two weeks later he returned the finished chairs and took the second five. Two weeks later he returned the chairs and began the handrail work, which took two days. The owner was pleasant and professional. His workers were skillful, neat, and clean. His secretary was very friendly, always calling to let me know time of arrival. I would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Peter's did three jobs: five dining room chairs were reglued; five dining room chairs were stripped and refinished; and our three story, staircase handrail. was repaired and re-enforced. The latter job required adding two new posts.

We had a great experience with Peter. They were able to give me a quote via email. Peter came and picked up the door, took it to his studio for refinishing then delivered and hung the door. He included some vintage hinges he had so we didn' t have to go buy them. When they came with the door, they installed the knob we had purchased. They had to make the slot in the door larger for the lock mechanism we had purchased and they had to do some other reconfiguring. They swept up the dust and were on their way. Everything was extremely professional and the service was timely. I really felt they went above and beyond. As for the door, it blends seamlessly with our other doors. I couldn't be happier. Some else wanted to charge me about 40% and they were not willing to hang the door!

I loved working with Peter, Aricelli and Carlos. This was the 3rd time we've worked with them. In total, they've done a lot of work on our 100-yr old bungalow: stripping and refinishing doors, mouldings and built-ins. They were priced fairly, timely with the work they did, cleaned everything up beautifully, and very easy to work with -- we changed our mind a lot! They were very patient with us and had great suggestions when we needed them. I've got more projects coming up and will not hesitate to work with them again!

Peter's estimates were fair and professionally accounted over this arduous 8-month project. Workers showed up consistently on time every single day. We could always get in touch and were so relieved when our constant requests for a change of this or add-on for that were handled with calm professionalism. The house was kept secured overnight and routinely cleared of the detritus this sort of labor must produce. Peter's Wood Refinishing is, in truth, the main force that changed our house from a nice old bungalow to an award-winning showplace. Every piece of wood is beautiful for its grain and soft finish, all the colors are perfect. The doors are pure art with their simple lines and beautiful grain. We could not ask for more, the results were so amazing. And if restoring all the wood in the house to its original beauty wasn't enough, we had several pieces of antique furniture refinished. They did a perfect job on everything.
Description of Work: We bought a 1927 historic Chicago bungalow whose multiple previous owners had painted over the original woodwork. We needed all painted woodwork stripped, sanded, stained and finished as well as detailed repairs to and replacement/matching of old baseboards and window framing. Old oak floors needed refinishing and new oak flooring installed in kitchen to match. We asked for arched doorways and fireplace cove to be redone in birch to match original wood. Every room needed new birch crown moldings in the 1920s style. All the old doors needed refinishing and the old kitchen swinging door from the attic was desperately in need of care.

I purchase the 2 3/4 " red oak flooring from a supplier that they recommended at an excellent price. Radu installed first all the flooring in a house that my wife and I were remodeling. Later they came back and stained and polycoated the floors. During the initial stage of staining Radu took great care making sure the color of the stain was what we desired. We are very satisfied with the results.

They were very knowledgeable and good. They came on time and cleaned up after their work. They quality was excellent, service good and the experience was excellent. I would definitely refer them to other people and I and going to have more work done by them. I spent about $1900 on that work and I thought that was a fair price.

Our condominium building was built in the late 1800s. The entrance way has an old, large, wooden door with matching woodwork surrounding the side lights and transom and all of it was in desperate need to be repaired and refinished. Araceli and Peter were great to work with on this project from start to finish. They were not only friendly and professional, but reliable and dependable. We are very pleased with the final product - the door and surrounding woodwork looks absolutely beautiful and it greatly enhances the appearance of our building.

Peter and Aracelli and their crew are professional, considerate, polite, and do very good work. They completed the work in two phases and to the estimate in terms of time and cost. The doors were removed and taken off site for the work, and the remainder was done on site in 5 business days about 2 months later so that it was warm enough to air out the house. We have a 1912 two flat and have a lot of work done by various companies. They are by far the most conscientious about keeping dust contained, drips managed, and leaving the workspace clean each night. The walls were taped off and covered with plastic, the floors were also taped off and covered with paper. They swept up each night. The replacement picture rail was installed well and matched the rest of the trimwork that was done. Throughout Aracelli kept us up to date on status and any issues.

Wonderful. The were early every day. Peter and his crew did excellent work. Arraceli handled all the paper work and behind the scenes details. I would recommend and I am planning on doing more work with them as we proceed further in our restoration project. No complaints what so ever, clean up on our part was limited to some light dusting and vacuuming. GoldStar for these folks.

1) Bought my building in 1985. Built in 1929. The wooden front door faces west. This probably is the original wooden door with no work done on it. It gets hits by the elements 24 hours a day. The south side and top frame part did not look bad. The south side frame and the door were dry and flat. Peters wood refinishing came out and sanded and refinished the door and frame. They did not take it off the hinges. The worker sanded the door and frame. They then gave me 3 options of the color that would most match the original color. The color I picked came out great. I can now feel the wood grain. The water now beads up. After they left, I noticed the hinge on the top was not re-connected. Peter came out and reconnected it. 2) Also they had to remove the old doorbells / the metal mailbox within the opening / the lock and door handle. They were replaced. The way they were screwed back in was not the best. Some of the screws were set in on an angle. We bought new brass color screws and the door now looks even better. 3) The last thing was the basement wood window. The bottom base of the window wood needed to be replaced. This was done, replaced and the 3 part wood was repainted. The new wood piece fit good. Although I did not think of it, I wonder if the wood should have been sanded first. the paint job would have looked alot smoother. We looked for ways to clean/shine the brass mailbox and door handle. We researched on the internet and bought Brasso, using a scouring pad to scrub it in. "Use rubber gloves". We let it sit for about 15-30 minutes and rubbed it on the weather beaten brass. It looks 95% better now.
Description of Work: Sanded and refinished (witjh Minwax) my west facing front door and the frame: right/left/top. The door looks now like it should. We can feel the grain. The accessories were removed and then replaced. As for the door, I believe this company did what they said they would. The door looks great to show off my building (newly tuckponted). As for resetting the screws, not so good. May redo it ourselves later on. This may seems small, but with the beautiful wood, if the rest is not 100% it shows. A new door costs about $1,000 without the frame. This would have changed the look of my building. The first thing anyone sees is the brick (newly tuckpointed) and the front door. If I ever had the wood inside redone, I would consider them, but get other estimates. Another company asked $900 for this" removed the door and replace the 3 frame sides. For the price, I am satisfied.

It was a pleasure working with Peter's Construction. They were very professional, timely, and efficient. The work is amazing. They completely stripped years and years of very bad staining off of the work trim in our living and dining rooms. We couldn't believe how quickly they got the work done and how great it looked when it was finished. We absolutely will use them again.

I'm very pleased with their work and I found their prices to be reasonable. My front door, in particular, looks beautiful. They did a great job matching the color of my existing finished woodwork, and the interior door looks like it was always in its new position. They're very nice people and it was easy to reach them by phone. They were very patient when we ran into city permit issues and went out of their way to assist us. Awesome job. I hope to have them back to refinish some of my other woodwork when I have the money for it.

He specializes in wood refinishing. He initially came over on a Sunday to give us an estimate because it was convenient for us. They came exactly when the said and did exactly what they said. The crew was very nice. They cleaned up very well, i had noticed a very small spattering of stain, and he is coming to fix it . The doors look great. They were very responsive. We couldn't have had a better experience. It is probably the best experience we have had with a service provider.
