Very interesting review, but you left a lot of information out of the picture. The member had a ‘’emergency job'' he called on Wednesday: “I need some exterior painting done ASAP because we are buying a house and have an inspection next Wednesday” I met the next day (Thursday), he was trying to do the work by himself, I wanted to do the work and help them get it done before the inspection. The only bad news was, he was only looking to pay only $500. The house had layers of peeling paint all over. and was in need of lots of scraping, sanding, caulking, priming and painting. I politely explained that the work was going to take a lot more time than the 8 hour coupon he was thinking of purchasing, I offered to provide a free estimate, I took notes and provided an estimate within 30 minutes, I provided with a discounted quote because he is an Angieslist member, he of course was not happy that the job would cost more than $500, I suggested to think about it and let me know, he talked with his wife and agreed on signing a contract, by this time he had only scraped 1 side of the house, which was only 15% and not 50% as he mentioned, but stated that he would finish that side and I should not include it on the estimate, the agreement was that he would provide paints and primers, since he had talked with the manager at the paint store. I made changes to our busy schedule and was able to start the next day (Friday), even on a very busy schedule, because I knew they needed the work done before the inspection. The next day he calls me and says "I was not able to finish scraping the area that I was working on, can you finish it? and can you pick up the paint so I don't have to make the trip all the way there and I will pay for it" I said; of course no problem. We finished scraping the side he couldn't finish at no additional cost. We worked all full days and not half days as he mentions, the first day was very windy and yes, there were a few paint chips that got stuck in the mud due to rain but nothing major, I informed him again that we clean everyday and we would do a final cleaning and inspection at the end of the project, we also worked on Sunday just to make sure the job was done on time and not get rained on. We agreed on a meeting with his wife the next day to make sure we were on the same page, she was 1 hour late, when she got there she agreed that everything was clean and the painting was looking good. We also agreed and I wrote it on the contract to use 'white color' and when we started painting (only a small section), he called and said it's supposed to be 'dover white' I mentioned that we had agreed to 'white' on the contract but I said fine, we'll repaint the small portion and finished the entire job on Monday, 2 DAYS BEFORE THE DEADLINE. When I called on Monday night to inform that the project was done, he said "awesome right on time, this is great". The next day he call me and says "I went to the house yesterday and the final work and clean up is great, send me an invoice”. I emailed an invoice with the additional cost of paints and primers, no answer from him for 3 days, and then he emails me asking for a 15% discount, I was just like "are you kidding me? I was in shock! at this point I had no need to explain how many days it took etc., because we had an agreement, but I did it explain anyway, and I also mentioned that the contract was made at the beginning of the project and I was not going to give a discount after the work was done not only in a professional manner but we also finished 2 days before the deadline, by the way the work took 4 days with 2 painters, and no we did not buy a gallon by error, I explained that we always leave extra paint for 'touch ups', but he was arguing about $20 and I decided to give him credit for it, it turns out that for doing the favor of buying the paint, so he did't have to travel for 2 hours, he was upset because we left extra paint, he also was upset that we finished before the deadline, I guess no matter what we did, he was not going to be happy and was only looking for a way to get a discount, THE REASON OF THE BAD REVIEW IS FOR NOT GETTING AN EXTRA DISCOUNT. FOR THE READERS, just picture this storyline; I will call it 'BRIAN AND THE MECHANIC" just so you can get a better idea: Brian is driving to a very important meeting at work and his car breaks down on the way to work, luckily he finds a mechanic near by. Brian: Hi sir, I have a problem with my car but I need to go to work, this is an emergency, can you fix it as soon as possible? Mechanic: Sir, we are very busy at the moment but I will take your car in and will fix it in about 3 hours, it will cost you $200 Brian: Great, thank you, please finish as soon as possible. 2 HOURS LATER.. Mechanic: Mr. Brian, I have great news, our team of our best technicians worked on your car and is ready to go. We finished in only 2 hours. Do you think Brian should say: Option A: Not only you were able to work on it right away, you also finished faster that I expected and now I can be on my way to work, thank you very much, I'm a happy customer. Option B: You finished already? I'm really mad now, I deserve a 50% discount because you finished sooner than you told me, yes the car looks and works great but if you don't give me a discount I will tell everybody not to use your services and will tell everybody know that you finish your jobs too soon and too clean :) I guess, we'll let the readers decide... We will continue to work hard on making our customers happy and always going the extra mile, even when our efforts are not always appreciated, we know we are doing the right thing and there will be more grateful customers that we can work with. Sincerely Gil Peralta
