I received a multiple quotes on the work. Three of the contractors wanted to just apply mortar over all the deteriorated bricks on the interior which was done in some spots in the past rather than fix the problem. I was very concerned about the integrity of the chimneys. Scott who is the owner was very helpful in explaining the chimney structure and the need to repair the problems and not just put a bandaid on them. Some of the bricks need to be replaced. The project proceeded just as proposed and the finished product is very professional in appearance. The workman like quality shows that I made the right decision. Upon completion of the workday all areas were cleaned up and swept. I was very pleased with the results and don't need to worry any longer. Definitely would hire again.

The Osmondson team is A1 in my book - they have now done 3 roofs for me in 40 years - they are ALWAYS professional, knowledgeable, reasonable and respectful of property. If you don't need a roof yet they will tell you that! If there's an easy fix instead of a huge investment they always steer you in the right direction. The condition of the property is left exactly as it had looked before they worked there...using a magnet to pull all extraneous metals, picking up every last piece of shingle or plastic etc - everything. An estimate was provided following a site visit by Mr. Osmondson. I felt he gave a fair assessment of the condition and pointed out specific areas that needed attention to avoid future problems. The work was done shortly thereafter. The whole operation was very efficient. I haven't had an opportunity to see the work done on the roof yet but I believe it was all done properly.

Excellent - Scott arrived exactly as he promised, and he and his team went right up on the roof and repaired it. In fact my wife and I were having brunch on the deck at the time, only a few feet away, and Scott & Team did the work so efficiently and quietly that we barely noticed they were there. Scott also waited for a few major rainstorms to pass before requesting payment, to be sure the fix worked. His pricing was also very reasonable, and I would certainly use them again for any similar work.

This review is a little late(Fall 2019) but we used Osmondson for chimney work. Scott was very responsive in returning phone calls and very detailed in explaining what work he and his crew were going to do. Scott definitely takes pride in his work. They did an excellent job and would not hesitate to use Osmondson again.

The repair and installation went really well, could not have been easier. Scott was extremely responsive, and friendly; and he did a great job explaining and walking us through the repair and his approach. He even coordinated a siding guy to take care of siding around the affected areas before and after the job; I did not have to worry about anything. This is our first house, we moved in last fall, and found a roof leak during some recent storms and heavy rain. The issue had long predated us moving in. Our house is a split level and the leak was coming from where the roof meets one of our chimneys; where the furnace vents. Water was getting in due to a lack of flashing as well as water pooling on the backside of the chimney. Scott recognized the issue immediately. He made the repair to the roof itself where years of water dripping in damaged the plywood under the shingles. Secondly, to prevent the issue from happening again he added extended flashing as well as a custom metal diverter to keep water moving around the chimney and down the roof. The repair was a little bit more expensive than I had originally budgeted for, but honestly it was worth it. It went really smoothly, it was a really high quality repair, and there were no problems. Also, he was able coordinate with the siding guy without me having to do a thing. I will be contacting Osmondson when I need the whole roof replaced down the road.

Scott came into the picture after another contractor damaged our roof, causing it to leak. First of all, he talked me down from my initial panic. Second, he was super professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and communicative. The process was complicated because he had to work with the other contractor, which he did to everyone's satisfaction. He responded quickly any time we had a question, was up on the roof with his crew for the actual work, and even came back when the other contractors were here to re-do their work, making sure they did it right so as not to damage the roof again. He's a gem and we can't recommend him highly enough!

Osmondson Roofing was simply awesome. He came out and walked me though where he saw the issues and clearly articulated the fixes. He then send out an estimate (via snail mail, so don't be surprised) that I received a few days later. They were out doing the work within a day of me agreeing to the terms, which were very fair. The craftsmanship was stellar. They even built up the new flashing in a way that directs water away from the chimney, and they used copper, which doesn't warp with heat the way cheap aluminum flashing does. No issues since the fix. Would use them again in a heartbeat!

We are getting our entire house repainted and wanted to replace a painted metal roof above a bay window in front of the house. I requested a quote to replace and Scott called back immediately to discuss. He spent 15 minutes discussing with me and suggested I NOT replace the roof. Instead, he recommended repainting it in a copper paint. He does not benefit from this advice and lost an opportunity to bid, but now when I need roofing in the future I know that he is an honest and honorable guy and will be happy to call him again.

I requested 3 quotes from Angie’s List for what I thought was a leak in the flashing around the chimney. Scott Osmondson called me within an hour and said he would be able to evaluate the problem in person the next day. He arrived on time, assessed the situation and told me it was not a flashing problem, but rather the metal cap on the chimney needed to be replaced because it was rusted and water was pooling on it. Since Scott’s company is a roofing company he could not fix the problem, however he took the time to tell me what the issue was and that I should contact a chimney company instead. He is pleasant, patient and detailed in his explanations; and he did all of this without charging a service fee. If we ever have an issue with our roof, Scott is the first person I will call.

My roof is light gray. The shingles were replaced with black ones. The work was done March 27 2019. I was told the shingles would be replaced with the correct color. After numerous calls, no response from Scott Osmondson. He is a crook!!! My son, an attorney , called him and was met with no responses to his calls. I am a widow and believe Scott Osmondson treated me with absolutely no respect. I will go to next door Winnetka, yelp, etc to report his abuse. I have given him many months to rectify the problem.

Scott is both very personable and very knowledgeable. We had an on-going roof leak. After waiting for 5 weeks for a local (highly rated) Mount Prospect roofing company to make the repair, Scott had the job done in two days. I've been a homeowner for over 30 years and I also own a small office building. I've hired many tradesmen over the years but I've never had a better experience than I had using Osmondson Carpentry for the new roof on my home. I contacted four companies that I found on Angie's list. One didn't return my call. One estimator didn't know if his company could install a ridge vent and certainly didn't know if my house was better off with or without one. With Osmondson communication is great. When you call Osmondson, the owner, Scott picks up the phone. He comes to your house and talks with you about your needs and offers his suggestions. I had some specific needs regarding the job, and he was completely accommodating. He hand delivers the estimate and explains it. And then he is up on the roof with the workers, making sure the job is done right. Wow. Mr. Osmondson has been doing roofs for 40 years and knows everything about roofing. Even better, he is an old school perfectionist. For instance, he insists his workers hand nail the shingles rather than zip around with a nail gun. Several online sources said this is better for roofs. And I liked that all of his men are his employees, not contractors. The new roof on my house and garage looks wonderful. Mr. Osmondson did a complete "tear off" of the old roof, down to the wood. He replaced 4 rotten plywood sheets, re-nailed the "floating" plywood which had been inadequately secured by my home builder, replaced the cheap looking aluminum flashing with gorgeous copper. You'd think all this would cost more, but I think his quote was the lowest of the three I got, by a few hundred dollars. I highly recommend Osmondson Carpentry.

The words to best describe Scott Osmondson: Honest, professional, trustworthy, experienced, responsible, conscientious, and hands-on. He is timely and courteous as well as shares his vast knowledge on home exteriors. Scott is helpful in providing input and thoroughly explains the underlying problem(s) and/or damage at issue. And if asked, will recommend other professionals he trusts. I would definitely hire him again and again and again. Scott goes out of his way whether it's a phone call, making time to come over even on a Sunday, climbing up a ladder (multiple times) to get a good look at the roof and/or spending an hour explaining how to best maintain the roof and home exterior. Most importantly, he not only takes pride in his work but also in his employees craftsmanship and experience who are equally courteous and conscientious. Scott is a rare find and heads above the crowd in the minefield of 'expert' contractors!

Everything went very smoothly. Scott was very responsive and conscientious from start to finish. He returns phone calls promptly, gladly answers questions, shows up when he promises, and does the job exactly how he describes. There's not much to describe about the job simply because it went so smoothly. He and his crew also do a great job cleaning up afterwards also. Scott made sure to give me some extra shingles after the job was done, so I have matching shingles if a repair is needed in the future. The owner, Scott went to the house personally. Inspected the roof of the house and garage. Fortunately not much work needed but he did also overview my home inspection report. There was interior mold on the north wall of the addition as well as some damp insulation. Scott was very thorough in teaching what he to be done as well as why. Scott personally has a lot to offer in helping you understand your need for repairs or installations. I will be in contact with Scott for help and advice in the future and recommend him to whoever has a problem he can fix.

Scott Osmondson, owner came and provided a thorough description and estimate. Work was scheduled after I received competing bids. Bid was a few hundred dollars more then the lowest and lower than the highest. They also re-nailed all roof boards with new nails before installing felt. and shingles. The job took two days. Tear off was done quickly and cleanly, tarps spread, and everything cleaned perfectly after, along with magnetic sweep for nails. Architectural shingles and new vents installed. Everything done very professionally and with high quality workmanship.

Our Chimney bricks were falling apart and we had water damage from a leak around the chimney. We had two prior estimates before Scott Osmondson came out for the assessment. Scott identified and explained the brick work that needed to be done and the roofing redesign to add a bridge to prevent the problem from reoccurring. He was the only company who told us about the roof redesign, and the fact that he could do both the brick work and the roofing helped to make our decision to hire him on the spot. Our project was a little delayed due to some record keeping snafu, but when it was started it went smooth. Scott and his crew were professional and worked with precision. We couldn't have been happier with their daily work accomplishments and daily clean-up. They worked weekends and finished the job in less than a week, with Scott on the job every day. The project finished as quoted with no add on fees. We are extremely satisfied with the finished product and highly recommend Scott and his crew. We would definitely be calling him when we need a new roof!

Scott recommended replacing the garage. Will probably do that.
