I have owned Five Star ovens in the past, and the oven failure on a less than one year old appliance was unexpected. I contacted Five Star, and they were surprisingly slow in locating a repairman in the Chicago area. I expected that they would have a number of certified repairmen in the area, but apparently not. After about a week of waiting, they told me that Nu Dell appliance would send someone out to install a new thermostat in my oven. It did not go well. NuDell came out on March 28 to make the repair. The tech was odd and quirky to say the least. He constanty talked - to the appliance , to himself, and sometimes to my wife who was home. The tech did not seem comfortable or experienced with the appliance, and had to dismantle a large portion of the stove top to access and replace the thermostat. My wife was uncomfortable with him in the house. In the process of replacing the part, he forced the thermostat in place, bent the metal housing that shields the thermostat, and actually broke the thermostat in two places. (I learned this later when a second repairman replaced the part properly) . About a week after Nu Dell visit, the oven failed again. I demanded a different repairman this time, and the part was successfully replaced.

Mr. NuDell said he would be at my home between 11 am and 1 pm. I had an important business phone call at 2 so I thought he would be finished before then. He arrived at 1:40 pm, causing me to postpone my call. _He pulled out my wall oven and said there was not enough power going to my unit to determine if there was anything wrong with it. It was "hard wired" to a box on the wall, and he said there was probably a loose connection somewhere but since he was not an electrician, he would not be able to fix it. In spite of that admonition, he took the cover completely off of my service panel, exposing the wires. He then wiggled the circuit breakers and went back upstairs to test the oven again. It was still dead until he started to push it back into the wall. The power to the oven came back on again and it started to work again. He didn't push the oven all the way back into the wall because he said it might go off again and that I could use it to prepare Christmas dinner, but that after the holidays I should get an electrician to take a look at it. He left the cover of the service panel off with wires exposed and left a screw driver, as well as the oven hanging an inch an a half out of it's opening. I was lucky enough to get a licensed electrician to come over the next day (Christmas Eve) and he found the loose connection right where the oven was connected to the house current. The insulation on the wires was burnt and the electrician said it might have caused a fire in the wall if I had used the oven for a prolonged time as cooking Christmas dinner. _Mr. NuDell had given me bad advice which could have started a fire, and I would not recommend the use of his services.
