Description of Work: When I booked the truck I made it clear I would need the entire truck. I had family at my house in Mi to over see the move. I get a call saying the moving guys stated they won't move anymore items. I'm in Fl over the phone arguing with them and they refused to add more. I have photos on the inside of the truck with patio chairs not stacked but thrown. And 1/4 of the truck was still empty. One mover made the statement that they had two other out of state pick up jobs to add to my moving truck rental. To top it off they were to go directly to a weigh station once loaded and we told him where the two closet one were from my Mi house and they were on his route, he agreed. I did not get a weight until the night before my items were delivered to South Fl. That was two days after they left Mi. And picked up other peoples things such as a grandfather clock. Now when they arrive we wanted it unpacked due to the hassle and wanted to see condition of items. They held my stuff hostage until I would pay them upfront in cash. My elliptical machine was clearly broken, jammed so hard they bend the arm and busted off platform pedal. This was a nordic Trac so it wasn't cheap. A table and wall unit have very deep gouges all over. A mirror was broken along with a list of others. Worse yet I had to go back to Michigan get a truck and fill it and bring it back myself. There was such a bad language barrier that communication was very hard. I even had furniture that was staying at the house, about 10 pieces. They brought about 5 here but left the stuff I demanded go on that truck. The list that the man in charge that day had was sent to him via the main office and the lady at the rental office told me on the phone she had no problem reading or understanding it. Boxes marked garage they carried in the house etc. I don't think at least one of them could read. I'm now out a lot of money and this caused so much stress. Would like to know if I can get help. I dealt directly with the moving company and the young lady on the other end of the phone was incredibly rude and refused to help me. |

For a bit of context, I have moved extensively in my career including moving to and then back from Ireland. I have never had an experience like this before on any of my moves. I didn't give them a F simply because the guys who moved me in were very nice as well as sympathetic and helpful in figuring out what all had been damaged. Also, the guys who built the crates for my glass table tops and then uncrated them were all good, too. Otherwise, this move was a total nightmare. The packing seemed to go OK but took longer than I was told. Also, the estimator that came to look everything over didn't give great information to the guys who had to come and build the crates for some of my glass table tops. We spent a fair amount of time walking around to try to figure out which tops he meant. The packers were chatty to put it mildly. That didn't bother me but may have contributed to the time it took to pack. My main complaint with the packing was what I found at the other end when things were unpacked. The amount of damage and just complete lack of common sense was stunning. For example, I have two very fancy mirrored sconces for candles and couldn't figure out where they might be while unpacking. They weren't in any logical place - like their own box with tons of packing paper and bubble wrap around them. I finally found them at the bottom of a three foot tall box with a DVD player and several other items on top of them. They were "packed" in the bubble wrap that I had them in at the time and nothing else. That they weren't destroyed is a credit to the craftsmanship and not the packers' common sense. An even better example - I have a collection of antique scent bottles. One of the packers decided it would be a good idea to take the tops off all the bottles, lump them together in one pile and wrap that all together. Then he wrapped two or three of the bottles together at a time - no paper separating them, just two or three bottles in a pack. Based on this, I guess I shouldn't have been too surprised to find that one of the tops was broken, three were missing and, even better, one of the bottles was missing - I just had the top. In addition to this fiasco, they wrapped my leather dining chairs in blankets and then apparently proceeded to pile things on them. The chairs were unrecognizable as being the ones from my dining room when I saw them. They were dented, the leather was stretched, pinched and abused and the color for the leather was rubbed off in several places. Even the men unloading the truck were stunned by this and told me that chairs like that should have been packed each in their own wardrobe box with blankets cushioning them in the boxes. Further, the company managed to lose the hardware to put my very expensive dining table back together, lost half (?!?) the hardware to put my day bed and office desk back together and dinged, damaged or broke a large number of other things. My dining room took the biggest hit. In addition to the chair damage and lack of hardware to put the table back together, the movers didn't secure the sliding doors on my china cabinet (two of which are glass), left tape marks all over the china cabinet, somehow managed to put a deep gouge on the inside of the china cabinet base, and apparently dragged the edge of the dining room table top across concrete or something like it. Luckily, the furniture repair people from the insurance company were able to repair most of the damage and disguise the rest. The repair people told me that, here too, the craftsmanship of the china cabinet is the only thing that saved the glass doors (2'x2' glass pane in each). Otherwise, they would have shattered during the move (go Ethan Allen!). The guys who moved me in to the new place were great. The only snafu was that I specifically told the relo people to tell the movers not to bring an 18 wheeler in to my condo complex. So what showed up - an 18 wheeler. The driver said that he queried it before heading out and was told not to worry about it. I called the relo company and yelled. They must have called the moving company and yelled as a senior VP showed up while I was being moved in. No apology or anything - just told me that the driver could get an 18 wheeler in anywhere. I told him that if there was any damage to the condo complex roads or curbs, that I'd point the condo board in his direction and he could deal with it. He, of course, claimed that the relo company never told them about "no 18 wheelers". Right. In the end I had an insurance claim that was four pages long and it took the furniture repair guys multiple trips to my new condo as well as taking multiple pieces back to their shop to fix things in order to get things to almost OK. I ended up rejecting the dining chairs as even with the Herculean efforts by the furniture repair guys, they did not look like they did when they went on the truck. I don't think that it's too much to ask that a company that moves your things for probably a great deal of money delivers them in the same condition that they left your house. Some damage is to be expected, I guess, but this was beyond the pale.
Description of Work: This company was hired by my company's relocation provider to pack up my condo in Massachusetts, store the furniture until I found a new place in Illinois and then move me in and do some unpacking. I don't know how much they were paid other than for storage ($1800/month for the contents of a two bedroom condo).

The movers worked very hard and lived up to their promises. Price-wise, they were the middle quote of three places we had contacted. Altogether, they were fantastic.
Description of Work: This company moved us from Chicago, IL to Birmingham, MI. They offered to help us pack but we packed our own boxes. There was no damage to our household goods. We have a three bedroom house.
