Very well. He was on time, matched the grout color perfectly (even changing it after doing a little because I thought it was too dark at first), and removing some mold that had built up between two tiles.
Description of Work: I received the name of this company as a reference from a friend. The job was a fairly small one, not really a remodeling at all but a repair which including removing and newly caulking around the tub and re-grouting a considerable portion of the tile.

First of all, I have to say Charles is very honest and trustworthy individual, and I never felt uncomfortable having him in my home unsupervised, while I was at work or traveling. He took care to ensure my property was not damaged (it was a very dusty job) and when he needed somebody from a subcontractor to complete a part of the job, he definitely acted in my best interest to be sure these other individuals treated me fairly and performed the work well. Things I could have been happier with, were the cabinet subcontractor recommended by Charles. I'm about 85% satisfied with what I bought, but there was a little too much trial and error in getting it done correctly (there were measurement errors by the cabinet company.) His crew created a minor problem with my phone (they accidentally disconnected my bedroom phone extension from the main,) which required a billable call from ATand T to correct. I would classify both these situations as minor inconveniences and nuisances at best. I did have to take control of creating the contract before the job started to get language in place my building would accept, to allow Charles to begin the work. It was a little unusual because our building previously used Charles' services themselves and he came highly recommended from the building engineer! After we got the paperwork done, Charles 100% respected the building policies and regulations. There was never an incident where the building came back to me with a complaint. He followed the rules perfectly and responsibly. There was never a dispute between us regarding the contract. I selected my own counter top vendor (from Angie's List) and though Charles had no direct experience with the company, they worked well together and it all came together very well. In almost any project there are unforeseen things that come up, or changes beyond the original spec. Charles' charges were very fair and the final total was within $200 of the original figure he committed to. I plan other work in my condo, and when I'm ready I plan to work with Charles again. I have also recommended him to family and friends. He provides excellent value and service, and I am definitely satisfied.
Description of Work: Charles and his crew did all the demolition, reconstruction, electrical, tile installation, etc. His crew installed my cabinets and appliances, which were purchased from other companies. They replaced a wall, with a kitchen counter island, and vastly increased my cabinet space.

The work was done in a timely fashion and the employees appeared knowledgeable. Lucer returned to fix a problem some months later at no charge. I still see a small fault near the edge of the roof - I was told it was inconsequential. We have had no water leaking that we are aware of.

He came and inspected the attic. I needed to have some insulation on the rafters. I asked the contractor if the investment would return money and he said it would, however it will take a while to do so. He said the estimate would save 7-10% of my heating bill.

When I finally got the estimate I was supposed to get, it wasn't from this company. I had called based on good reviews from Angie's list, but they kind of let me down. I don't believe he told me he was going to contract someone else.

Charles was referred to us by a friend. We called him about a problem with our front windows leaking-he came and looked at them several times, bought his co-worker with him and told me exactly what I needed to do. He completed the work in two days and we haven't had one problem since!
Description of Work: We've had many different services done-plumbing work on the water heater, trim replaced, deck railing replaced, painting, caulking for windows.

It went very well. I appealed to Charles McFarland, the owner of the company, to help me out on very short notice. I was in a pinch because the tenants that moved out destroyed the carpeting by letting their dog urinate on it (the bedroom, the hallway, the bathroom). I thought the carpeting could be cleaned, but it was obvious that the stains went all the way through to the pad and the the entire apartment reeked of dog urine. Abe (Charles' worker) took me to the Tile Outlet to pick up the tile and Menard's to get the Thin-Set and Grout (I do not drive). Abe was very polite and worked very hard to finish the job in the space of a couple days. It is almost impossible to find a contractor willing to do the work the very next day, on such short notice. Charles McFarland really helped me out of my predicament, which was to get tile installed in the space of one week, even though the price averaged to $5 a square foot, which is a bit higher than I am used to paying (however, worth it considering the time limitation). We were all able to keep our sense of humor, even though the entire place reeked.
Description of Work: Laid approximately 200 square feet of tile on extremely short notice (next day) because my tenants destroyed the carpeting with dog urine. Installed linoleum in a very small bathroom (about 20 square feet).

The tape in the corner had come loose. I tried to repair it myself. This did not work out. They were very responsive and came on a Saturday. I would definitely use them again and would recommend them as well.

Charlie came out, (after being late and not calling until I called him), was very nice and looked over the job. He wanted to do the priming of the walls as well, so he could feather out any spots they might miss after the last coat of mud went on. It made sense to me, so we agreed to add that cost to the estimate. Charlie's estimate for mudding and taping only was $3600.00 plus an additional $650.00 for priming. The 3 other estimates I got averaged $1500.00 for mud and taping. So you do the math! If he didn't want to do the job I wished he would have just said so instead of giving me such a out of the park estimate. And he seemed so very nice!
Description of Work: We finished off our attic ourselves (no dormers) and just needed someone to come in and mud and tape for about 50 sheets of drywall. Being that we have a sloping roofline, the area where the roof meets the floor will being used for storage. But we did want it finished off with 1-2 coats to seal the seams so we could throw a coat of primer on it to protect the walls. So some areas are harder to do then others.

Charles McFarland was friendly, prompt, and EXTREMELY reliable. He came at least once a day to check the site. Answered my phone calls or called back promptly. Toward the end of the project we had a main water pipe burst. He still came to check on the house and even gave us a name of a plumber that worked until 2am or two nights to complete the job. His employees were very on-time, courteous, and worked the whole time they were in my home. Their work was both sturdy and beautiful. We will definitely use them and recommend them for more jobs.
Description of Work: McFarland Construction leveled floors and ceilings. They converted a kitchen to a mudroom. Fully renovated bathroom, added electrical and outside door. Also, moved gas pipes to add a stairwell. We ended up paying a little more than the original estimate because we kept on adding jobs.

This was a HORRIBLE experience. I've been renovating homes for more than 10 years and have hired a number of different contractors over the years. I've never had any major problems with a contractor before. Working with Charles McFarland was a NIGHTMARE. The laborers he hired were unskilled drunks. That's not just an unfounded opinion. Liquor was stolen from my cabinet. The electrician fell through the exposed joists, crashing through the ceiling into the unit below mine. Plus, the lead contractor on the job was thrown in jail for drunk driving...which meant he could not finish the job. When I tried to contact McFarland about these problems, he never returned my phone calls. They left the job half-*expletive* with crummy looking drywall work, expensive marble tile ruined by sloppy glazing, and a toilet that leaked because the tile was not level. Do yourself a BIG FAVOR and DO NOT HIRE McFarland!

The results were decidedly mixed. Charles is an extremely nice man and is easy to work with. Some of the work that his crew did was very good (wall tile installation), some needed to be redone (shower threshhold and some accessories put in wrong). The project took far longer than estimated (12 weeks versus 3 weeks). The delay was based on too few workers (usually one, we needed two), problems with shower door sub that Charles recommended, days when we had no workers. Electrical sub got the job done (although he miswired at first and had to come back). Charles needs clear direction from homeowner on design issues.

McFarland Remodeling scheduled time for an estimate and Charles came by the house to discuss my project. He did not provide a proposal. He indicated that others on his team would be better suited to review my project and provide information and/or answer questions. He looked around at some of the areas that needed repair, stayed about 15-20 minutes, and asked if it would be okay to return in a few days to look around with the other employees. No one ever followed up with me. I assume they did not want the job and indicated that with their actions.

Excellent job from start to finish. Responded to request for bid in 48 hours, provided bid in 72 hours, and completed job in 4 days. Also water sealed an additional outer wall for no extra cost. Courteous, prompt, friendly, informative. Cleaned up after work. Owner (Jim McFarland?) came to view and approve work in progress. Affordable and a great value. Workers were a little late a couple of times but called in advance to let me know they were stuck in traffic and to tell me when they would be arriving. Did not try to sell me more than I needed. We will definitely call them again. it's nice knowing there's a reliable company like this that can do so many different things for the house.

Charles was very prompt in answering my call and then in getting his crew in here to do the work. Although we were unprepared for what the whole process would entail (having thought that only the floor would need replacing) and ended up taking longer as a result, Charles and his crew were very quiet and unobtrusive throughout and attended to the work right away. We are very pleased overall with the quality of the workmanship and the attention to detail on all aspects of the job. Also the cost was very fair considering the work that was involved. Charles was knowledgeable about what would be involved in this type of job after flooding and offered different options from which to choose. His crew was very helpful in helping us to move the furniture around that we had been unable to get to once we determined that the walls needed replacing.
Description of Work: We had flooding in June and called Charles to get an estimate to remove damaged pergo flooring from our basement. As they proceeded with the floor, they discovered mold in the drywall and suggested we cut 2 feet of it out above the floor line and replace it. We hired him to remove the damaged wall portions and replace it with Durock, as well as removing all of the old flooring and hauling away the trash and installing new baseboards throughout. They also bleached the frame, before applying the Durock, and applied several coats of mud, sanding in between in order to blend it with the upper portion of the wall. The process was quite labor intensive and the work was excellent overall. The also primed the portions they had installed and installed the baseboards primed and painted. Charles gave us an estimate to paint the basement as well, but we decided to do it ourselves as it went beyond our budget, but I have no doubt the quality of their paint work would have been excellent as well.

I left a message for Mr. McFarland and he responded promptly. He introduced an individual who specializes in leaks, who I hired to appraise the situation and make a quote for the repairs. Mr. McFarland was clear that what I wanted was not his specialty but said that he could quote on the work, if we could identify the problem. He was prompt, courteous and professional and I will contact him to quote on the actual repairs.

The east walls of two adjoining rooms in our one story house was damaged by rain water. Mr. McFarland and his team came in an tore down the damaged walls to brick as requested and hauled away a lot of moldy plaster and studs. He recommended putting up dry wall as a replacement for better insulation but when we saw that the brick was still in good condition, we asked that he keep it exposed. They then did a great job fixing the walls and ceiling to a flat surface. He took great care to inform to us about all of the different issues with the work and was extreme proactive in ensuring that the work was performed efficiently and professionally. Very personable, observant and clear cut kind of guy. We felt 100% confident in him throughout the entire project.
Description of Work: Removed two walls down to expose brick. Drywalled portions of lath and plastered walls and ceilings to bring the surfaces to the brick wall. Repaired water damaged walls and patched other areas with plaster and tape to paintable state. Oversaw and accommodated work with electricians and flooring work.

The project went exceptionally well, Charles was professional and reliable and very accessible. His workers were here when they said they would be and progress could be seen every day. The time went longer than expected and that created some pressure at the end, but Charles stayed very late the last few days to make sure that the project was done in time. I am very pleased with the end result and would highly recommend Charles to anyone who has a similar project.

Charles McFarland was easy to get hold of, and is a real down to earth guy. No high pressure sales pitch. We scheduled a time for him to come out and give an estimate, which he did as promised. The work was done by his employee Enrique, who did an amazing job. He even put a slope on the bottom tile piece so that water could run off (the window is in the shower area). Charles was fair in his prices, and the job turned out great. I'd definitely use him again, for whatever I need done around the house.

Charles McFarland was very responsive from the first contact made. He came to give an estimate within 2-3 days and I received the quote via e-mail shortly thereafter. He started work within a week which was key to my business. I had also requested an estimate from another contractor and they did not get it to me until Charles was almost done with the job (and they were significantly higher). The job was completed in 2 days. As it turned out, I was not able to provide Charles with the correct paint color code and he took the extra step to go to the paint shop to match the paint (they mixed it) from a piece of broken drywall which was laying in the corner. It was a perfect match! The final product of the job was that you could not tell that there had been any damage. He did a great job!
Description of Work: Insulate wall approximate 6 wide and 8 high, wrap 2 copper hot and cold water feeder lines. Patch holes with drywall and install 2 new vent covers. Insulate wall and hot and cold water supply lines where brick wall is exposed. Patch holes in wall with drywall and add 1 vent. Paint walls to match existing walls (owner to provide color of paint). Remount mirror. Work was required due to water damage (frozen pipes) and drywall damage as a result of plumber gaining access to the pipes
