Devalued our MCM pieces by doing what he wanted vs what we asked for. He didn't bother to inform us of the changes either. Missed the deadline of 8 weeks. Didn't communicate that to us. Once asked at the 8 week deadline? Told me he hadnt even started on them yet?? He resorted to rushing our pieces and it REALLY showed. Also, when asked about the flaws to our pieces? He resorted to insulting us. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL overall. I wish I had read the negative reviews because he treated us exactly the same way. He took advantage our good nature and then when we questioned him on anything? He resorted to insulting us. I have screenshots of his insults as well as before and after photos of his "skill set" if anyone is interested.

This weird woman and her husband looked me in the eye when I delivered her items and complimented my work. She said she would Zelle final payment after I left then stiffed me $200. Then she called me a couple of hours later because they had decided I had ruined all the items for various reasons. God, some people's kids... PS I delivered while there was still snow on the ground. Sheesh!! It's almost July.

I sent him some pics and he suggested that i should think about keeping the original patina and maintaining the look of it. You could still see where my grandmothers teacups and sauces hand left their mark. Im so happy i listened to his suggestions. Instead of stripping it and making it an ordinary piece he built up the old lacquer finish and kept all the charm and beauty that took me back to my grandmother's kitchen and the fond memories we shared. He is really a true artist and craftsman. I would definitely use his services again and highly recommend him to anyone thinking of getting work done on any type of project. Thank you Matt for transporting me back in time. My grandmother would be so happy.

Matt did a perfect job reducing the height of the cabinet by about 40%. I don't think anyone could tell the cabinet was adjusted; it looks as if it was originally designed and crafted to be what it is now.

It was terrible. I ended up it was cancelled. He said he would come pick it up, then no you have to bring it to me. It was intermittent phone calls. I asked him for an address and there was no address, and then he said the he didn't think I was very happy so why don't I just cancel it. It was a series of phone calls. I had some furniture that needed to be refinished. I called and left a message, but I don't know if he had too many responses and he was over the top, but he is not very professional. I was trying to get an address, but he said they don't have an address listed for him. He gave me a price, and then when I called him back, he asked me to send him photos, and I sent him photos, then the price changed. It would take him sometimes a day and half to call back from a voice mail. I was calling during business hours, not on a Sunday or at night.

My furniture looks like new. This saved us from buying all-new furniture, and allowed us to preserve a set of nice counter stools that are no longer available to buy new, and keep a pricey Room & Board table that our kids had ruined now looks brand-new. Matt was very responsive and quick. We are very satisfied.

M att told me that after he restored my dining table, I would probably not be satisfied with the chairs. He was certainly right about that. Once my refinished dining table was in place, the old chairs which I thought were in acceptable condition looked dingy indeed by comparison. So Matt told the chairs and did a touchuup finish without stripping and they look terrific. He also covered the removable seats with new fabric. Highly recommended.

Matt came to my home and picked up desk drawers to repair took them to his workshop. one week later he returned drawers freshly oiled and appropriately solid and functional. Then he removed back of desk and took out and repaired the wood scroll which was splitting in several places. The desks finish was in good shape so Matt rubbed entire desk with a wax polish, adding a surprising luster to the desk. I'm very pleased and you should call Matt if you want similar treatment for your furniture.

Dresser was given to me by my grandmother and she said that the time that it was new was 1904. It was in the process of falling apart and needed immediate extensive repair if I was to continue to use it. Because it was so important in my family I searched for a perfect person who could restore this. Now it is as solid as a rock and I have gotten so many compliments for how it looks. What a great job Matt did.

My wife and I have been pricing new furniture and good quality stuff just isnt out there for less or the same cost of restoration and we disliked the thought of trashing good quality furniture that can be restored instead. The interactions and experience of using the services of Matt Fixes Furniture was definitely NOT good the second time around. I used the services of this company in follow-up to my December 29, 2014 experience (see glowing review I wrote). I was very surprised and perplexed by this 180 degree experience. It's unfortunate since I had a lot more work I need to have done. However, I will not be using this business again. Here is a quick summary of my experience this time around: (1) the table was delivered 60 days past the agreed upon delivery date of January 31st, (2) table was ultimately delivered on March 20th with damage, (3) the owner (Matt) damaged a significant portion of veneer on the table and agreed to replace it, but when delivered he said he decided not to honor his word to replace it, (4) after pointing out the still visible damage I negotiated a reduction $100 (even though it will cost me more time and money to fix the damage Matt did), and (5) upon departing I was called a name used to reference a female dog. I entrusted Matt with a high-end manufacturer (Maitland-Smith) game table. One of my favorite pieces of furniture. The table was picked up on December 8th (while he dropped off two nightstands he had refinished for me). The agreed upon delivery date for return of the game table was no later than January 31st. Matt asked me to pay in cash versus check when the table is delivered. I agreed. I called January 7th to spot check on the status of work on the table. Matt told me he had not started and wouldn't do so until a week before delivery. Contacted him on January 31st because I had not heard back from him regarding delivery or color check. After a couple of calls he returned my call and told me he had other jobs from people who needed their furniture back more than I did. I thought this was a very odd thing to say. I explained that we had an agreement and he should have contacted me to discuss if the terms of delivery needed to be adjusted. I also reminded him I touched base in January to ensure I would have the piece back by now. He then told me he would try to get to it in a couple of weeks. Matt sent photos of the table stripped on February 10th showing the table was comprised of very different types/colored wood. He said he would have to put the project aside and figure out how to stain it evenly and he couldn't give me a date for wrapping up work on table. I shared that while I understood the project might be a challenge for him, I couldn't agree to an open-ended time frame for returning my furniture since it was already very past due. I indicated we needed to establish a target date for him to wrap up work. We ultimately agreed upon delivery by the end of February. On February 24th I touched base to check on progress and see if he was on target to wrap up by the end of February. He said he was now working on the table and had put other jobs on hold until he finished the work on my table. He now said he should be done in 2-3 days. On February 27th he sent me a photo saying he was getting close to the color needed. Matt contacted me on March 3rd and told me to stop by for a color check. I stopped by on March 4th. When I arrived he asked me if I brought a deposit. I mentioned that I didn't recall him asking for one. He said he didn't ask for a deposit but I should have thought he could use my support. Since this expectation for "support" was a very odd thing for a business owner to say to a customer I changed the subject back to the table. I agreed that the color, although darker than I would have liked, would be fine. However, I noticed all the recessed edges around the recessed game board was covered with blue painters tape. When I inquired about the tape, he confessed that he had split the veneer wood while banging on the table to take the top off. I was very shocked that he only mentioned damaging the table after I inquired why the blue tape was on the table. The damage was significant. He told me not to worry about it and he would replace the veneer since he damaged it. On March 5th I contacted Matt to try to establish a mutually agreeable delivery date for the table. He finally responded on March 11th to agree on a delivery date of March 20th. On March 19th contacted him to see if he had flexibility to deliver the table a little earlier than the 10 a.m. time we agreed upon. After a number of confusing, very unprofessional texts from him he said he could deliver at 9:30 a.m. He arrived at 9:30 a.m.. When I inspected the the table I saw he didn't repair the damage he did to the veneer. He told me he decided not to do it. He patched the damage and stained it instead. He said he thought that was good enough. I pointed out the damage was still very visible and the repair done was not what he agreed to do. He said he just wanted to deliver the table and go. I told him I would have appreciated knowing that he was not going to replace the veneers he damaged. He asked me what did I want to do because he just wanted to leave. He offered to take $50 off. I told him I would still have to take the piece to someone else to repair the damage. He told me to just tell him what I wanted to pay so he could leave. I quickly just agreed to reducing the agreed upon price to $100 because I was very concerned about volatility. Since he only wanted to be paid in cash I paid him the $400. When he was outside of my door on the porch I told him he had been unnecessarily rude. He indicated I had been an impossible [name calling]. Even after tolerating the delays, rudeness, name calling and paying $400, I still have to send this table to another company to repair the damage he did to the table.

Yikes! You forgot to mention the nest of scorpions I left in the drawer. Once I had stripped the thick, almost opaque old finish from this high end knock off I found a monstrosity of sanded through veneers, mismatched hardwood legs and particle board held together with air gun staples and cheap glue. I sent photos of the aweful raw furniture to the customer and suggested she visit my shop to discuss options. It was some time before she did because she travels all the time for her job. Once she arrived I knew I was in for it. Aparantly I was to blame for her purchase of some "very expensive" junk. Caveat Emptor. And the delay of delivery, which can happen sometimes when unexpected problems arrise, was a personal crisis of some kind for her, a real game table emergency. Anyway by the time I delivered I was so fed up with the nonsense that I discounted the job by 20% and got quickly away from this disturbing person. Dear reader, please see the other reviews from many of my satisfied customers including one from the same disturbed person who wrote the John Grisham sized rant above.

We were planning to buy a new, larger refrigerator, and we knew a cabinet hanging over the refrigerator would have to be modified to make room for it. I contacted Matt and sent him a couple of photos... I was able to get the cabinet off the wall, and thus I was in a position to take it to him for adjustment. Knowing we'd be able to drop off and pick up, and that no on-site service would be required, Matt quoted a price of $150 to modify the cabinet as needed. We agreed, and subsequently dropped off the cabinet at the location of Matt's workshop. I say "the location of Matt's workshop" because I never actually got to the workshop itself. Matt offered to meet me in the parking garage, which was convenient for me, having three little boys in safety seats in the minivan... Anyway, Matt was laid-back but entirely professional. I handed over the cabinet and a small deposit, and that was that. When we got the refrigerator a few weeks later, I emailed Matt to confirm the height adjustment that would be required. He got the work done, emailed me back, and back I went to pick it up. Matt showcased his handiwork, which was indeed impressive--no one would be able to tell the cabinet had been modified (shortened). I happily paid him and promised to give him a positive review on Angie's List, and here we are. :)

I inherited two night stands I needed refinished to match the headboard of a bed we already had. In addition, I needed the back panel of an amoire replaced. It had previously been altered/cut to accomodate a very large tube television, so there was a big hole in the back panel. Matt arrived timely to pick up the nightstands and remove the panel from the amoire. I was very concerned about getting a good color match and low-gloss/satin finish on both items. My concerns were unwarranted. Matt did a fabulous job on both items. During the stripping process on the nightstands he sent me a photo to explain that the handles had left a shadow image on the stripped drawers. I planned to use different handles so I asked if he could try to remove the shadow images. He successfully did so. I was also able to stop by his shop to check the stain color on one of the drawers of the nightstands before he finished the entire pieces. While there I was able to see how cleanly he stripped and sanded the nightstands. Very professional. Matt delivered the nightstands and placed them next to the headboard. The stain match was excellent! The panel for the amoire fit perfectly and the stain color was a terrific match. When he mounted the replacement panel on the amoire he explained that doing so with screws instead of staples would allow its easy removal should I need to do so in the future. That was helpful. The price was a bit more than I wanted to spend. However, I believe the investment in the furniture was worth it and less than the time and money I would have spent to procure similar pieces. I am delighted with the results for both the nightstands and the panel for the amoire. I was so delighted I entrusted Matt to strip and refinish a very expensive Maitland-Smith game table that had the finish damaged by a moving company. He is currently working on that piece.

Not to mention the fact that he's a really nice guy who is a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended!
