+ 3 moreOverall, an excellent experience. I described the issue over the phone and provided photos of the rotting window stool via text messaging. This was very convenient. An estimate was provided the same day and I think the price is very fair. We scheduled the work for a day that was mutually convenient. On the day the work was scheduled I was notified that Chris was on his way. Within minutes the rotting wood was removed and disposed. Chris had left to have the new wood cut and edged. Later that afternoon he returned to finish the job. Everything was done quickly and professionally. The new window stool was painted, caulked and the surrounding wall was patched. The area was cleaned with a vacuum after all the work was done. I am very happy with the work performed by Chris, his professionalism and timely communication. I highly recommend Master Johnny Inc.

+ -1 moreHis professionalism was top notched. The clean-up was great. He found more work that would require about $400 more, but as soon as he discovered he needed more work, he let us know. I almost couldn't tell he'd been doing any work because it was pretty clean. We actually had him give us estimates on a couple of other things that we'll probably have him do soon. The price was fair, because of the amount of effort and time spent.

+ 1 moreThe project went great. Chris (Master Johnny) did most of the work at his home workshop and only did the initial prep work on the electrical and the final assembly here at the house. Before the project he was able to assess our needs and work with our design. He quoted us a price and stuck to it. We live in a 100-year old house and the walls and floors are uneven and he was able to adjust for that seemlessly. He did some light electrical for us to get outlets in the right place and patched up and repaired walls as necessary. He is super-efficient and knows how to troubleshoot. The project started on time and finished up in the time frame he told us. My only complaint is the first time he came out he was late and only called after he was about 60 minutes late. But he was timely after that when he worked on the project. I HIGHLY recommend Chris and will definitely use him again.
Description of Work: Chris crafted us a custom built-in in our living room, moved a few outlets and installed a new junction box.

+ -1 moreMy very first contact with Master Johnny, Inc. (Chris) was extremely positive. He was understanding, sensitive, and very quickly understood the exact nature of the work that I wanted done. He came over to the house within twenty-four hours of our call, gave me a quotation (that included some very worthwhile options), and started work within a week. He was neat, punctual, and most of all, was an excellent craftsman. I would definitely recommend him to others for remodeling work (especially carpentry), and also custom cabinetry. I will probably end up using him again for other projects unrelated to the big mess that I had to deal with. As far as I am concerned, he gets an and quot;Aand quot; in every category.
Description of Work: I found Master Johnny, Inc. in May via an extensive Angie's List review of "flood restoration contractors." It was a difficult search because most contractors were either too busy, or considered the scope of work to be inconsistent with their interests/capabilities. In the meantime, my finished basement remained a complete mess due to four inches of backed-up sewer water. After the water drained out, I knew I had a big (and messy) job on my hand.

+ 1 moreWe first used Master Johnny to replace a single loose piece of siding on our house. He was by far the least expensive and he did a fine job. We also had him check out some loose tile in the bathroom. He saw what he thought was mold which grew because their was improper backing behind the tile - some drywall and some areas of no backing. We had the mold taken care of before he did the work. He repaired the bathroom and an area in the basement where we also had mold. He installed drywall and the baseboard in the basement and got them paint-ready. He also replaced a light fixture in a closet. He did all of the jobs well and for a good price.
Description of Work: Replaced loose tile and installed concrete backerboard in bathroom shower. Installed drywall and baseboard in basement - made paint-ready. Replaced light fixture in closet.

He arrived when he said he would and worked until the job was done. We have used him for other jobs before and all were done in the same professional manner. We will use him again and recommend him to others.
Description of Work: Chris did our job in two parts. The first part was to repair a downspout that had fallen down and to fill and seal some cracks in our foundation. Water was seeping in from the lack of a downspout which allowed rain water to fall into the crack and then into the basement. Chris fixed everything really well - no more water in the basement. He came back two weeks later and sanded, rust proofed and painted a 6 feet high wrought iron fence, a fence around the front porch, and 3 wrought iron doors. All were rusted in places. He did a beautiful job - Everything looks like new.

+ 0 moreChris Mastroianni was a no show. When 6:30 p.m. came I gave him 15 more minutes and then it was 6:45 p.m. and still no show and no phone call. By 7:00 p.m. my husband and I knew definitely that he was going to be a no show and no phone call received. Since it was getting late and my husband and I had no dinner yet we decided to go out to eat. When we came back home we received a phone call on our message line at 7:11 p.m. from Chris Mastroianni that he had to work late and got distracted and therefore forgot about the appointment. He said that if we still needed him he would be able to come. By this time it was already too for my husband and I did not come home from going out to eat until after 8:00 p.m. What was disappointing about this appointment is that Chris does such nice work from the pictures he has posted. To us this show us that he is unreliable. If a provider has no interest in the work needed or is unavailable he should tell the customer upfront and not waste the customer's time. In this economy, no one really turns down work and no one is indispensable.
Description of Work: On July 17, 2012 I had an appointment for a 6:30 p.m. estimate for repair on my garage with Chris Mastroianni.

+ 4 moreI found Chris on a search of Angie's List, and once again everything turned out as well as I would hope for someone with as many positive reviews here. As mentioned above, I had a bunch of different projects that had been building up over the last few months, and Chris was able to take on all of them. In fact, he talked me out of a project or two or into a much simpler solution than the one I had initially envisioned -- one of the great benefits of hiring someone who has such good experience across a wide variety of projects. He came out to evaluate things in-person so he knew exactly what he was quoting, and stuck with the quote at the end of the project, even though it ended up taking him a little more time and potentially a few extra materials than he had initially planned. He has a great demeanor; doesn't make you feel like the work is an inconvenience to him (a problem I've had in the past hiring GC-types to handle smaller projects) and cleaned up nicely after himself so that you couldn't even tell he was there (except for the improvements!). He also appears to take pride in the quality of his work, and I'm very happy with the end results.
Description of Work: Chris helped out with a number of different projects that had been accumulating, including: installing a deadbolt on our fence gate; repairing another gate that was coming off its hinge; building a door to access the gas meter under the porch; repairing the soffit in a couple of areas where there were gaps; and also repairing a small section of shingles.

+ 7 moreBottom line: you would be hard pressed to find someone more capable, better, more attentive and responsive. He is the best tradesman / handyman I have ever worked with.
Description of Work: I have relied on Chris for the last year to make repairs and improvements to my home as well as rental property. Not only is he very good at what he does, he is extremely responsive, ethical and helpful. In fact, I emailed him this summer from Europe to take care of a minor problem with my rental property. After he took care of it, he emailed me to tell me he did and that he would invoice me when I returned. Some of the things he has done for me include installing light fixtures, replacing a garbage disposal, installed exterior security lighting. In addition he built a very detailed book case with cabinets in my family room; complete with LED lighting on all the shelves. This was a major project that was completely custom made. I could not be more pleased with the finished product. Based on the great experience with the bookcase, I had Chris make a king sized bed and head board. Again, this was a completely customized project that involved rare woods and very specific and detailed design elements and dimensions. Again, the finished product far exceeded my expectations and I could not be happier with his work, pricing and ability to make my thoughts and ideas into reality.

+ 0 moreChris Mastroianni returned my call regarding an estimate within 30 minutes and told me he could swing by my place the same day. He arrived, took measurements of the toekick that needed to be replaced, wrote an estimate for $75.00 and told me he would need to order the replacement piece, which would take a couple of weeks. His estimate was, by far, the lowest. Two other estimates were given over the phone, without someone stopping by to see the actual work-to-be-done. I contacted Chris by e-mail and asked him to order the new maple toekick, He kept in touch with me by e-mail and let me know when the piece arrived. The morning of the work, he called to let me know he was running just a few minutes behind. I appreciated the phone call, as I've been left hanging by late contractors once or twice in the past. He arrived a short time later and knocked out the work in less than an hour. He used my broom and dustpan to sweep up the area after he completed the work. Chris was polite, professional and punctual and his work looks great. The toekick in my kitchen is as good as new. I would highly recommend his service to others.
Description of Work: He removed the water-damaged toekick at the base of my kitchen counter and replaced it with a new maple toekick.

+ 5 moreChris was very responsive at giving estimates and fitting the work into his schedule. He has a sense of how to give troublespots a nice finish. i.e., we had a cabinet wall that had never smoothly connected to the kitchen counter top; he put trim around it so that it no longer draws attention. Similarly, the floor thresholds between the kitchen and the rooms on either side were old, cracked and messy looking. He created new thresholds, trimmed precisely to fit, and matched to other woodwork that make the whole floor look more finished. He has aesthetic judgment for putting up the new bathroom fixtures so that everything looks balanced. He was prompt, personable and worked hard. The work all looks great. I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: A hodgepodge list of repairs and improvements: fixing broken window, stripping paint from concrete floor and windowsills to prep for painting, caulking, painting bathroom, installing light fixture and medicine cabinet, smoothing cracks on wood door, creating custom thresholds and missing woodwork trim around a door to match existing woodwork.
