Gary Margolis is an appliance repair man. He's friendly and shows up on time. When he's done fixing the microwave, he washes it. I don't believe anyone else would do that. He's really responsive and spells out all the options. He shows exactly what had happened and what was going on. His service is excellent. I paid him for 3 switches and the service call. I don't know think he fixes small appliances like toasters, blenders and stuff like that. I've used him and recommended him quite often to other people who've had problems that way. His price and quality is very good. He's not the cheapest one going, but on the other hand one would get what they pay for. Once he's fixed something, I've never had a problem with it again.

I have been using him for years. He is very reliable and pleasant.

I was trying desperately to find someone who would repair my dishwasher at a reasonable price. Most places I contacted were giving me estimates of around $200, nearly $100 just for making the service call. So I searched for a repair man as close to my address as possible and found Margolis. Was a little apprehensive as there were no reviews but decided to give a call. It's a little difficult to pin down the technician on the phone because he's so busy. He would always be driving between house calls or simultaneously talking to one of the other workers when I called but, in spite of this, was good about giving me the information I needed. Was very honest about the estimate I asked for, even breaking down the cost of the parts so I would know it was reasonable. He also offered to come the very next day but I had to check my schedule and didn't get back to him to late the following night. Still, even so, he was about to find space in his schedule to make the house call within 24 hours. He arrived for the call about between thirty and sixty minutes late, though this is not much compared to some repair jobs I've had and did call to keep me updated about his progress the whole time. Once arrived, he fixed the door in record time. The entire call took under an hour. While working on the door he sliced open his finger but this guy is a total professional. He wrapped it in some gauze, taped it up, and still finished the job quickly, nor did he charge me one cent more either for the extra time or the inconvenience. My dishwasher door works great now. I could feel the change in the tension immediately. While he was finishing up, I casually asked about the loose grill on top of my microwave, He took a quick look, gave me some advice, and did a temporary fix on it for free. It's not a job meant to last as that would have needed special parts but he was upfront about that and gave me info about where to get the parts and what to do once I had them. He was also very friendly. Likes to talk and explain things fully. His service is not just give a man a fish but teach a man to fish...or at least provide some fishing equipment. In the end, I got my dishwasher fixed for half the price I'd been expecting, had the microwave thrown in as a bonus and received much more pleasant and prompt service then I have ever had from a repair man before. I highly recommend Margolis Appliance Repair.

He had to go to the factory and come back to put a new motor in. He went way above and beyond to help me.

I called at 10pm expecting to leave a message and Gary answered and made an appointment to come the next day. The parts were about $45, the initial service call was $70 and the other $50 or so was for labor. He said that it wasn't a very high quality dryer so I could just replace it, and offered to connect me with someone who had gotten him good deals in the past. We preferred to have it repaired and get another one later. He had the part in his truck and was done within an hour. Overall, I was pleased.

I called him because our microwave did not appear to be working as well as previously. He had appointments available imminently, he called ahead before coming, and he showed up on time. He checked out the microwave and made some suggestions for how it could run better, though he did not find a problem with it. He did some additional voltage checks of the outlet and noted that it was dropping some power, and thought perhaps that could be a problem. He tried to answer questions and seemed very knowledgeable about the products and how they work. Although I can't really evaluate his repair, since he said one was not necessary, I would call him again if I had an appliance repair need.

Mr. Margolis came the next day after I called him. He was about a half hour late, but called to say he would be late. He immediately diagnosed the problem and since the machine was old, advised against spending the cost of part and labor to replace a broken door assembly. Instead, he quickly did some electrical work to bypass the assembly, which he said will keep it running til the next part breaks -- and it is. The charge was a reasonable service call fee and minimal labor time.

Gary spent 20 to 30 minutes checking my microwave. He concluded that multiple parts were defective and that some of the parts were not available. Since he was here, I asked him to look at my washing machine. He indicated that there would be a separate service charge and I agreed. We walked to the washing machine. I pulled out the agitator (that was loose) and he immediately stated that the transmission was broken. He also indicated that it would take at least $300 to repair and suggested we buy a new one. He then wrote up the bill and included two service charges. I questioned this added expense, since the evaluation took less than one minute and he didn?t even touch the machine. He declined to adjust the charge. Since a did agree to the charge, I paid the full amount I later contacted Maytag. They sent a technician, who replaced the transmission for $129. I would give Gary an ?A? for his evaluation of the microwave. I would give him an ?F? for not repairing the washing machine and suggesting that we should buy a now one. My overall grade is ?C?.

The repairman found a burned contact on the control unit. We tried bridging that in hopes of saving the cost of a new control unit. Unfortunately, that did fix all the problems. So, we ended up putting in a new control unit. That fixed the problems.

Entirely satisfactory. I called at 8 AM, he called back and asked for some details about the machine and the problem with it. He then said he'd be here at 10 AM, later called to say he would be late. When he arrived, he fixed the problem. I also had a broken knob; he suggested that I not replace it because the part is unreasonably expensive and would have to be ordered.

The guy was extremely pleasant. I'd checked rates elsewhere and their prices were reasonable. I was impressed that he was able to repair multiple brand names on my appliances. My control panel on the dishwasher had to be replaced and he did a great job at diagnosing the problems efficiently and taking care of them appropriately.

Gary arrived with the part in hand and replaced it in 10 minutes. He worked very fast. Washing machine was fixed immediately. I asked him a question about problems with hot water while I wrote him a check and he gave me some useful information. The part was $26.60, labor was $20.00 and standard service charge $45.00. Same day service was well worth it.

I had a very positive experience with this service. He was prompt and helpful. He was also the ONLY technician I could find in Chicago who was willing to repair a microwave.

I was very impressed by Mr. Margolis' knowledge of the appliances. Had he not been able to cut off the vent motor on the microwave I would have had to trash the unit and purchase a new one because it had just passed the warranty time. As I never used the convection feature that feature was no loss. He actually had to do two repairs on the dishwasher. He was very thorough - checked the water heat levels in the kitchen and baths so I now know what levels are needed to maintain the dishwasher (the panel shorted out because the unit requires hotter intake water than is presently set up) and I intend to have the temps adjusted. Mr. Margolis is knowledgeable, personable, charges reasonable rates and I would definitely use him for any projects.

Due to my schedule, the appointment was made for later in the week. Gary would have been ready to do the work in a couple days when he received the part needed. I then had to reschedule for almost a week later due to my schedule. On the day finally scheduled, Gary was running late. He called to let me know. He checked out the unit and changed the motor. Then he tested it to be sure it was turning and heated water to be sure all was working correctly.

Gary is very nice, neat, professional, and courteous. He also comes cleanly dressed, wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. He charges $50-$75 just to come out, but he can fix almost anything. I would recommend him to other members.

Called him on Saturday night and he called back within half an hour. He talked to us on the phone for about 20 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong He knew he couldn't get parts until Tuesday (it was a labor day weekend) so he told us to shut down the fridge till then. He came on Tuesday morning checked everything out, cleaned all the grills and and told us that the problem probably was that the door wasn't closed well. He called back the next day to make sure everything was still okay.

HE WAS VERY PROMPT AND CAME OUT THE DAY AFTER I CALLED HIM. VERY HONEST AND DID NOT TRY TO SELL ME THINGS I DID NOT NEED. HE ALSO TOOK THE TIME TO GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ON THE APPLIANCE TO AVOID FUTURE DIFFICULTIES. I HAVE USED HIM IN THE PAST AND ALWAYS GET GREAT SERVICE THAT IS VERY HONEST!

I CALLED THIS MORNING, HE WAS OUT THIS AFTERNOON. HE WAS EXTREMELY EFFICIENT, POLITE, VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE.

THEY PROVIDE EXCELLENT SERVICE. THEIR REPAIRMAN CAME WHEN HE SAID HE WOULD, AND HE DID THE JOB REALLY WELL.
