.Let me start by saying that my wife and I are really happy with the work that was done in our basement by Matt and his guys, and we would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. We started the basement renovation with the goal in mind of adding another level of living in our home. We received several estimates from approximately 5 different companies. M&L was not the cheapest but it definitely was not the most expensive. Buyer beware that fixtures and flooring are not included and added to the breaking of our budget...but that isn't a reflection on Matt more a reflection on my wifes' taste in fixtures. Matt and his guys conducted themselves as professionals at all times, they were prompt and as courteous as possible over a 8 week long renovation. Matt was able to give us several solutions to the utilize the space that we needed. There was always open lines of communication throughout the process and even when things needed to get changed or my wife and I added to the scope of the project, it was never a problem. Our only complaint was the amount of dust that entered our top two floors during the renovation. We told our complaints to Matt and felt that they attempted to address dust issue. Overall we are very happy with the finished product.
Description of Work: Scope of work included but was not limited to: Installation of insulation and drywall. Installation of porcelain tile flooring. Addition of bathroom. Installation of built ins. Reconfiguring rear stairs to improve functionality. Painting and installing moldings. Installation of dry bar.

We got two quotes for our project and talked to a few other companies. We got all the contacts from Angie's list. Two companies we got a quote from were rated highly. The quote from M & L (Matt Wojcik lead) was much lower, so we went with them. Matt and his crew did almost all of the work, and he took care of subcontracting for shower and cabinet glass, hardwood floors for the stairs, and drywall work. In addition to all of the usual electrical, plumbing, painting, and other installation, they installed stock cabinets for the basement bar and built a handsome custom media center and custom mudroom cabinets. The overall result is stylish and comfortable, and we are very pleased with the outcome for the price. Based on these results, we decided to hire M&L for the rest of our house renovations. Matt's crew is courteous, works hard, and is always on time. They are reliable and trustworthy. They respect the homeowners who have to move around the space during the renovations, and they work neatly, even during demolition. One of the highlights of working with Matt is his responsiveness, communication, and willingness to work with the clients and solve problems uncovered during the remodeling process. He rarely says "no" to our requests and comes up with ways to accommodate our wishes. He is truly interested in making sure the customer is happy with the outcome. He is full of suggestions of how to do things better. He does not nickel and dime you if you make small changes to the design during construction. Matt's crew works fast, so if you don't have your design fully finalized, they may make some decisions for you that are different from what you would have made. 98% of the time these decisions were the same or better than the ones we would have made, but in a couple of cases we wish we had more clearly communicated our design earlier. Matt works informally, with often no more than a rough sketch of the space. The contract and billing is also rather informal, so you are never sure how much you would save if you cut out a piece of the work or how much more you would pay if you add something later. This informal way of working can make you feel slightly uncomfortable, but in the end we were more than satisfied with the value of the work for the price we paid. We paid for all style-choice items (e.g., flooring, backsplash, vanities, lighting, etc.) separately, and Matt and his crew installed. If you are going to buy fixtures and other finishes online, do so early, and make sure you find out from Matt what you need and by when. Otherwise he may ask you one day for the items he needs for just a couple of days later, leaving you no time to buy online. Overall, we were very happy with the result and we feel lucky that we found M & L. I'd hire him for any other projects in the future.

Working with M&L was a great experience. Matt, the owner, was friendly and responsive -- easily reached by phone, text or email. His crews were professional and courteous, in at 7am and out by 5 pm each day. Our basement remodel was a complicated project. M&L gutted the basement so we could have it waterproofed. Then, after the waterproofing, M&L rebuilt it, adding new features as per our remodeling plan. Matt predicted that the whole thing would take four to six weeks, and he finished the project right in that range. The final product looks fantastic. We'd recommend M&L without hesitation.

Workers were very efficient and the job took a little over 2 weeks. They were suppose to start in October and also scrape and paint the back stairwell. When I contacted Matt , he could not give me a clear date because they were working on another job and it was taking longer than expected. We have to wait for the spring now to complete the stairwell. No big deal but would've been nice to have it all complete at once. The guys worked long days and cleaned up after themselves. We are very happy with the results and looking forward to finishing the back of the house with them. Matt returned my texts and emails in a timely manner and came by every day to see how his workers were progressing. I would use them again and recommend to others.

Absolutely one of the best experiences we've ever had with any contractor. Matt worked with us to figure out solutions to a couple issues we had, and was extremely helpful with suggestions and making changes as the project went along. The work was done exactly to schedule and the crew was always pleasant, on time, and very tidy. Also, in my 20+ years as a homeowner I have never had anyone stay in touch or get back to me as quickly as Matt did. Absolutely recommended for anyone-- we will definitely use them again!
Description of Work: Framed out and drywalled our whole basement, made an enclosed room for the furnace and water heater, added new outlets and lighting, replaced old plumbing with new copper, and replaced eight windows and a back door.

READ THIS BEFORE YOU HIRE M & L REMODELING After getting estimates from a few different contractors we hired Matt to remodel our bathroom. We had a leak in the shower so we decided to get the whole thing gutted and re-do the entire bathroom. Our house was built in 2005 so it's in great condition still except for a few issues which is why we wanted to have a team come in and take care of these problem before they escalated. The first few times he came with his guys when the work started--than they started showing up on their own and the work started getting messier and delayed. When we approached Matt about it he was very rude and told us the work will be done. We disregarded his unprofessional attitude so his men could finish up. We were not advised regarding the products which would be best suited for bathroom flooring and shower--so we bought what we thought looked good. First his men wasted a lot of tiles cutting them poorly or placing them in the wrong direction. On top of that they left so many marks on these light gray tiles which they said they would clean but when all the work was done we asked them to clean the tiles and they said the stains were permanent. Our bathroom was honestly in worst condition than when they came in. There were stains on the bathroom door, they never put the metal floor plate on by the door, the tiles still have stains on them and it cost us a pretty penny to mess up our bathroom. At the time Matt guaranteed his workmanship but when our bathroom started leaking again we contacted him to come take a look but he denied his guarantee. We had a written copy with his signature that guaranteed his work which we sent to him. We have contacted him a few times to come and fix the problem but he has been nothing but rude, unprofessional and keeps putting off our work. I am very disappointed with this company and would never work with them or recommend them to anyone. The amount we paid was strictly for labor as we bought all supplies--our bathroom is still a mess and we basically threw $4000+ out hiring these guys to do the work. We asked him in November to come take a look at our bathroom leak he said he will come in the first week of December. We contacted him again once we didn't hear from him after the first week of December and this was his exact reply " Time will come". When we told him we paid his company $3500 to fix our bathroom so please come fix the issue this is how he replied to his customer "First of all we dont even know if that's our fault. I NEVER NEVER heard BS that toilet is leaking after 10 months!!!!!! Dont sell me on this. I do this business almost 20 years and things like this dont happen by itself". At this point he still hasn't seen the problem or know if it is or isn't his fault.

I cannot say enough great things about working with Matt. I received 6 estimates and Matt, by far, had the best understanding of what I wanted and also provided his own ideas and suggestions. His estimate was not the lowest, but was the most reasonable for the amount of work being done. I am blown away by how the basement looks now! Matt & his crew did excellent, quality work and did not cut corners on anything. Probably the most challenging part of the project was incorporating the basement stairs into the rest of the house. The stairs had been in the garage and Matt built a new wall in the garage and opened the stairs up to the family room & kitchen. This included opening a doorway into the family room, and installing hardwood floors on the stairs and new entryway. They did an truly amazing job! I have already recommended Matt to a few people and would absolutely use him again.
Description of Work: Full basement remodel - framing walls, new ceiling, tile floor. In addition, the original stairs to the basement were accessed through the attached garage and M & L built a wall in the garage and a new entryway/landing into the home to incorporate the basement stairs into the rest of the house and installed hardwood floors on the stairs and entryway.

Matt worked with our budget and timeline for our remodel. His crew is very courteous, punctual and are great workers. Matt himself, is there on the site and always explains to me what is happening or what is going to happen. Because of budget constraints, I decided to tackle the painting myself (with help) and his workers even shared some tips to me. I already recommended him to my family and if I have another project, I will hire him again.

Everything went smoothly as I expected. This is our second time having Matt do work for us. He remodeled our basement last year so when it came time for this work to be done-- we knew who to call. Matt pays great attention to detail so the work is always of the highest quality. Everything was completed in the agreed timeframe. I will use M & L in the future and would highly recommend them.

I felt the need to write this review because I felt misled from all the A reviews that M and L Remodeling has received on Angie's List. Matt is very punctual and tried to be helpful to correct the mistakes that were done. The remodel was on time and in budget but the end result was not nice. The bathroom was gutted and everything replaced but the toilet and bathtub. The tiles on the floor were even but the tiles on the shower wall were not even. A couple of broken piece of decorative tile were placed on the shower wall despite there being many leftover pieces left. They have since tried to replace them but it still does not look right. The team placed scratches on the walls of the hallway leading up to the bathroom and placed scratches on the tub and toilet. They have since tried to clean up the scratches on the walls. They said they were going to cover the entrances to prevent dust from coming into the other rooms which were not done. They did not take responsibility or really care when I did not have hot water to shower because they broke a valve during demolition (not entirely their fault since the building is very old). Matt has tried to place the blame on the 2 men that did the remodel but it is his company and he should take responsibility for them.

We have been very pleased with their service. When we were looking for the remodeling company, we reached out four companies. M & L was the first one replied back to us and the first one set up the appointment. In addition, Matt was the only one always responded to our calls and messages. It was our first time to remodel the condo. Therefore, we had a broad picture but did not have any detail plan. Matt did his best to provide resources and additional examples for us. He was willing to show us the unit he was working at that time. Fortunately, it was the unit in the same building. Therefore, it was very helpful for us to take a look at his work. In addition, he helped us find shops for remodeling materials (Those shops did not have any connection with Matt). His crews were always on time and they worked hard. Whenever we visited the unit without any notice, they were working very hard. They tried to meet the schedule on time. In addition, they were friendly. Matt were pretty patient with us whenever there was a delay via delivery company. He was also very flexible with our decisions (since we did not have any remodeling experience before, we had to change our plan a couple of times). We added few items which were not on the list. He and his crews were willing to work on those. Overall, we had very positive experience with M & L (Matt and his crews). I highly recommend M & L to anyone who wants someone to get a job done and keep the communication going.

I had four other estimates, of which Matt was around the middle in price range. I picked his company because he had so many ideas of ways to use the space, which none of the other contractors came close to suggesting. He and his crew were on time every day working 8 or more hours. They cleaned up after themselves every day, which made the rest of the house easier to manage. Matt went with me to purchase some of the items needed, which was very helpful, as I had no experience withthis big a project. I picked a paint I thought I would like, but it was awful. Matt was very obliging when I called to say I could not live with the color I had picked and wanted it painted again. The cost of the repainting was very very high, but it was my fault so I could not complain. Since they were doing a complete renovation, I decided to have a new furnace and water heater installed at the same time. The furnace company perfered to work alone without another crew on site, which set Matt back a couple of days, but he was very nice about the inconvenience. Matt estimated 4 to 5 weeks to complete, but they were done in 3 weeks. They did an excellant job and I am going to use them again to renovate the upstairs.

Working with M&L from receiving the estimate to completion of the work was overall a relatively smooth endeavor. They approached the project in a consultative manner, and were responsive throughout. M&L understood that this type of work is disruptive by its nature, and they did what they could to mitigate the inconvenience as much as possible. Project budget and time lines expanded slightly, but for very obvious and logical reasons. Each aspect of the work was completed with high quality and attention to detail.

We had minor flooding in our basement twice within a few months. Of the four estimates we got, Matt was by far the most reasonable. Matt and his team were very professional and thorough. We definitely appreciated his honesty regarding what he felt really needed to done to fix our basement and prevent anything else from happening again. We had many delays and unexpected issues arise thoughout the whole project that kept pushing our finish date back. Even through my frustrations, he always remained very calm and patient and in the end he still was able to finish our basement before our expected deadline. We would be confident in using him again for any future projects for our home.

Matt and his team were extremely professional. Always on time and on budget. The new building association is extremely strict and they had no problem with my contractors. Every time I walked into the project, everything was clean and tidy. We had our own architect who's also very pleased with the way Matt worked. If we had to do this all over again, we would not even think of anybody else.

We had engaged M&L remodeling for finishing my basement originally. They had done a spectacular job the first time around too. We shopped around and checked for references before hiring them. Based on the review from Angie's list, the references that I got and the price, we decided to hire them for the basement work. Matt and his team were very professional. They completed the project very quickly because we were having a house warming party, and they even worked on Saturdays so that we can host the party on time. Matt also went the extra length to make sure we got an wonderful basement and he agreed to do things that we had not originally discussed during the negotiation, but because that was the best for our basement. We couldn't have been happier with the basement that we got. Unfortunately with the heavy storm earlier in the year, the basement flooded. This time we did not even shop around. We contacted Matt immediately and he fit us in his schedule as soon as he could. He got the demolition crew as soon as possible before the mold started growing. And then he came with his crew to finish the job. Again, we couldn't be happier with the work that was done (photos of the refinished basement would be added soon).

After getting several quotes, we decided to hire M&L Remodeling to complete our basement project. We felt all of the companies we got quotes from would have done an excellent job but we chose M&L Remodeling mainly because of how comfortable we felt with Matt. Matt listened to what we had in mind, interjected a few of his expertise thoughts and opinions, and made us feel comfortable and confident the project would be done correctly, in the timeframe given, and at a competitive price. The work Matt and his crew did included: removed existing walls, installed french doors, straightened out our crocked hallway, installed tile flooring, installed a wet bar (including back splash and undercabinet lights), installed can lights and moved electrical and cable outlets, installed closet doors, and painted the entire basement (about 1000sf). As for Matt and the workers, we don't have any complaints. Matt was always accessible by phone. His team showed up on time and worked diligently throughout the day. The crew cleaned up after themselves and left the work space as neat as possible. They even sealed off the basement stairwell so to minimize dust on the first floor. Additionally, as issues and remodeling opportunities that weren't in the original plan came up, they discussed with us our options and were amenable to address or change the plans to our satisfaction. We would hire M&L Remodeling again and give them our highest recommendation for a remodeling project.

The end result of the work itself was great, everything came out better than expected. The crew clearly has an eye for details, and very minute things were done in a really great way, with a lot of attention. The crew worked from 7 am to 5 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 1 pm on Saturdays. They were always on time, worked cleanly and cleaned up debris and dust in their work area on a daily basis. However, the timing of the project left something to be desired. The initial agreement was to start work several weeks after signing the contract, however in reality work started about 2 days after we signed the contract, so this in itself felt rushed. That complicated a part of the project, because we specifically wanted to use our own electrician to do some additional work after the initial demo was done. Because of the rush, our electrician couldn't come in and devote 3 days to our project with only a couple of days notice, so we ended up pressured to use this team to complete some of the additional electrical work we wanted. In addition, because they use subcontractors for the drywall work, we ended up with several days of little to no work getting done, which was a bit frustrating. Overall we consider this project to be a success. Like any other remodel work, it wears down after awhile, but this crew certainly makes it worthwhile with the quality work. Everyone on the team was extremely nice and helpful, not intrusive by any means, very careful in everything they did and eager to talk with us and be willing to adjust certain aspects of the remodel as the project progressed. They were always on time, and i can't stress enough how great it was that they kept things clean, which helped lessen our burden of cleaning the rest of the house during this major remodel. I would gladly hire this team again for future projects at our house.

Matt and his team did a great job!!! It turned out better than expected. I truly liked him from the first moment I spoke to him on the phone. Out of the 3 consultations that I received for my bathroom, he was the only one that had some ideas on how to make a 50 year old bathroom modern that was within our tight budget. He gave me suggestions that I would have never thought would be possible in my bathroom such as lights in the shower and for the shower to be extended up towards the ceiling. He also listened to what I wanted and didn't down play my wants and suggestions. Matt quoted the duration of the project to be 1 1/2 week but they were finished in 5 days which was wonderful since I didn't have to take additional days off of work. Matt and his team were professional from start to finish. They were at my house each morning around 7:30a and worked until about 5:30p each evening. No goofing off here. They cleaned up before they left for the night and was professional in every manner possible. Also, Matt was very responsive to my messages if he happen to be off-site. He communicated to me any problems or concerns that he had which really help to put me at ease. I will definitely be using Matt again. I have an old house with many projects to be completed. I would recommend him to anyone who wants someone who is honest and will do an outstanding job!
Description of Work: Main bathroom - gut rehabbed. Powder room - toilet installed. Basement bathroom, shower fixed to use during rehab, new toilet installed, drywall replaced in the ceiling that was damaged from upstairs shower leak.

Matt and his crew did such a great job gutting and remodeling the shower in our master bathroom. The tile work was very impressive and the shower looked very professionally remodeled when complete. Matt and his crew also fixed the cracking seams in our drywall which had been fixed at one time by a different contractor. Matt was really creative in coming up with a solution so we wouldn't have to worry about the problem ever again. This job included installing crown molding, taping, mudding and painting which again looked very professionally done. We will definitely be using Matt again and have referred many of our friends to M and L and all have been impressed with his services. Matt was also the most reasonably priced we found.

Project was right on schedule from start to finish. No complaints.
Description of Work: Matt and his crew were at our home at 0700 hours to start demolition. Within 4 days most everything was gone and out of house. the crew worked expeditiously every day for 10 hours. All workers were very clean and neat. Drop cloth's were used on floor from basement to outside door. Everything was done to minimize the dust that could have been done. The team of workers were wonderful and did an excellent job in every thing whether electric, plumbing or carpentry. They installed porcelain tile for floor in laundry room, bathroom and bar area and laminate for the rest of basement. It is gorgeous and the tile down in corner shower unit turned out beautiful with a border of glass mosaic tiles that were also used by bar area and between sink and medicine cabinet in bathroom. Matt said it would take 4 to 5 weeks and it took 5 weeks and a couple of days. I would recommend this company to anyone. One minor thing happened regarding shower tiles and it was rectified immediately by Matt. (forgot to put in recessed shelf) I wouldn't do one thing different and we are very happy with all aspects of work.

I was very pleased with the entire process from quote to completion. Matt came to our home and looked at some photos I printed from the Internet showing what I wanted to accomplish with the fireplace remodel, then made suggestions that I hadn?t thought of which made it even better. We received the proposal within a day or two, which was very well detailed and the price was extremely fair. Any emails or questions I sent to Matt prior to the start of work were answered promptly. Once we picked our tile and paint a start date was set and the team got to work. Everyone was on time and worked together well, they also took great care to make sure they kept things as clean as possible, covering everything in plastic and protecting my wood floors. The job was also finished in the time quoted and the results were great! I was a little fearful when I saw the walls cut open to add the AV wire conduit and new electrical, but I can?t tell they ever had holes in the wall. I would highly recommend M&L Remodeling and Painting and we will use them for our next project.
Description of Work: The M&L team did a fireplace remodel for us, which included removing the old mantel and tile, then rebuilding the fireplace surround from floor to ceiling, installing new electrical outlets, adding conduit behind the wall for our AV wires, painting, and hanging our television.

10 years ago we brought a hot tub and placed it in our garage. We put down some tile that we got for nothing and put up melamine walls. At the time we thought what a great space. Then the hot tub broke and the space became storage and not so great. This year our gift to each other was a new hot tub. But at looking at the space decided redo it all. It took some time looking at reviews and getting estimates. I've had bad experience in the past hiring companies that barely did the minimum. Right from the beginning I was impressed with Matt. He called the same day I made inquiries about a quote. Came out as arranged and on time. Gave me his approximate start date and time to completion. Provided me with a quote that included work to be done. The day the work started Matt and his guys cleaned out the space including removing the old hot tub. They demoed the walls and floor. Insulated and hung green board. Matt brought over tile samples for us to look at and made suggestion regarding size. He even suggested installing them in a diamond pattern. He was also the one who suggested installing the heat/vent combo unit. Matt and his crew showed up every day and on time. When they left they cleaned up and left things tidy. They always had time to answer questions and to play with my dog. The work took about 2 weeks. The last few days was more about drying time. In the end I only had 2 minor changes which were done the next day. The workmanship was excellent and service professional. I will definitely be hiring Matt and his crew again. It's nice to finally have found someone who takes pride in what they do.

Installed new exterior door and doors leading to the back half of the garage and hung closet doors. Installed all finish moldings Installed a solar roof vent in the other half of the garage. Framed and installed ac unit

All I have to say is FANTASTIC! Matt was here every morning to make sure that the lines of communication were open. His crew were at our house everyday at 7am and worked for 10-12 hours each day. He had a great vision for how things should look and always had wonderful ideas that we would have never thought of. We have worked with other contractors before on a major house remodel project and never had such reliable and quality work. We are so pleased with the finished product. I would highly recommend Matt as a general contractor to anyone. For future projects, he will absolutely be our go to.
