MALETZ HEATING AND AIR

I have used Maletz for several years as my HVAC vendor, and I have come to the conclusion they are completely incompetent. I hired them to install 2 condensers and ductwork, and they did a terrible job - they did not create a closed loop on the ductwork, an error that another contractor discovered. The owner, John Maletz, apologized profusely, saying it was the result of his inexperienced recent hire (Paul). Later, I got numerous complaints that the rooms I was heating (I have storage spaces down a long corridor) were not being heated evenly, and I brought this to Maletz's attention. He recommended an additional condenser for the hallways, at a cost of $20K+. This helped slightly, but did not address the underlying issue. Recently, about a month ago, one of Maletz's workers pointed out that you could solve this problem by installing dampers, which I agreed to do for $1K. I asked Maletz why he didn't suggest this in the first place, and he couldn't give me an honest answer. Finally, one of the condensers stopped working, and Maletz's shop recommended a new condenser for $4200. I re-bid the job, and one guy offered to do it for $2500, and a third guy (DelJo, reviewed elsewhere) repaired it without replacement for only $550. I've completely had it with Maletz - he and his firm are complete incompetents. I have been terribly remiss in not terminating them sooner, but I've been so busy, and Maletz is such a smooth talker, that I never bothered to shop around. Please, please do yourself a favor and do not employ this firm - I have spent over $50K with them and I regret every dollar of it.

I would absolutely use them again. They were fast, clean and courteous. I was very happy with their work.
