The roofing part of the job was completed in a single day. The siding and gutters part of the job took about two weeks. The crew cleaned up daily and my landscaping was not disturbed. I am very happy with the services performed and high quality of work and would recommend Lindholm roofing. There were no surprises during the job and the work was performed on time.
Description of Work: My home had hail damage and the roof, siding and gutters needed to be replaced. The salesperson (Tim) was very professional and arrived per the agreed upon time when we met to discuss the services they would perform. He walked us through the different options and showed us samples. He left us samples with us for a few days to determine color choices. He was not pushy and forcing us to make a quick decision. The quote outlined all services and was competitive.

They were very professional, finished everything in one day, cleaned up really well, I haven't had any problems, and it looks good. I am happy with the work and I haven't had any leaks. I only had one estimate that was lower than they were. They were right on time, completed the job, and followed up pretty well.

The salesman was extremely good. All products have changed since the last time we did our roof. He gave me access to how to look everything up, and walked me through everything. I ended up using what he recommended. I was having trouble picking color and he gave me a list of homes he had done with the colors I liked and I drove by and checked it out. They were patient and accomodating. The got the permit within 24 hours and gave me a choice of when they would come. They came right after memorial day. They put plastic all over the attic so dust wouldnt fall into the house. Then they covered all the landscaping with a tarp. It only took 2 days for them to finish and they completely cleaned up. No nails lying around or anything. The roof was beautiful.

Due to the settling of our home's foundation, rain water would cascade off of our roof and the gutter system wasn't doing this job. Mike Huston of Lindholm Roofing came up with a highly creative and cost effective solution that maintained the aesthetics of our distinctive home and completely solved the problem. We were so pleased and most impressed. Mike also came up with a solution to preserving our deteriorating roof which has extended its useful life, and he graciously checks on our roof condition following each winter to give us a status update. It is such a pleasure -- and offers great peace of mind -- to work with an individual like Mike and an organization like Lindholm that have the expertise and integrity that is second to none. My wife and I highly recommend working with Mike Huston of Lindholm Roofing.

Lindholm roofing had an individual come out and give us a number of roof shingles to choose from. They also gave us a number of different dates to choose from to see what would work the best for us. After we had made our selections, the work crew came out to our house and did a very professional job in an efficient manner. They did a nice job of cleaning up after their work was done and Lindholm roofing checked with me after a couple days to ensure I was pleased with the work. Neighbors commented about how nice the roof and gutters looked after the job was completed. My wife and I were very pleased with Lindholm roofing and we recommend them to others that are considering having their roofing done.

Excellent experience. Overall, I would recommend Lindholm Roofing. The timing was the most important to me because when I decided to get the roof replaced, I like to move quickly. One of the owners came to measure and advise, left a written estimate. When I called to schedule, it was very easy, they showed up on time and finished on time.
Description of Work: Tear off and replace old roof with new asphalt shingles. My house is a very high, very pitched roof. They did an excellent job, on time, and extremely clean when they left, having picked up everything, swept and especially picked up all the old nails.

Both the roofers and the man who repaired the chimney did an excellent job. the workers showed up when they were scheduled, completed the job in a timely fashion, and left no mess behind. WE have three roofs and Tim Lindholm recommended only replacing the one that was leaking, not the other two. The replaced roof is leak free, and our chimney is no longer a menace to our neighbor's car! We would absolutely use Lindholm roofing again.

We had a suspected leak in our roof, leaking into the living room ceiling. We called a handyman to check it out, and he whiffed badly on the attempt. We decided to go with a roofing specialist. We targeted a few roofers to call, including Lindholm. Mike called the next day. We talked about where the home was, and he actually came out before I expected (I wanted to be there when he was there if possible). Mike said it was a siding issue with the dormers, and they didn't work with siding material. I thought that would have been the end of our relationship with Mike and Lindholm, but it turned out Mike would be around a few more times. We hired some siding people, and they performed some repairs. But the next rain there still was a leak. Our siding people pushed back on the roof, so we called Mike again. He was nice enough to come out, and he pinpointed the leak with the hose (surprisingly the siding people never tried this) and showed that the leak was at the base of the dormer. We called the siding people and the came out again, with a repair attempt. But on the next rain, it leaked again. The siding people insisted it was a roofing issue again, and we called Mike to see if he could come out and have a conference with the siding people to nail the leak down. Mike came out on time, but oddly our siding guy wasn't on time. Mike left (he had other appointments) and then the siding guy came out. We scheduled (another) repair to the roof, this time the entire dormer was sealed with caulk. We were going out of town for a while, and we decided to rely on Mike one more time. We asked him if he could check the roof before we left, he was gracious enough to come out, and he explained the newest repair, much better than the siding people did, including the maintenance windows for the caulk work. Mike was nice enough to come out all those times, and at no time did he take payment. He explained the situation better than the people we actually hired. When the roof really needs actual repair work, we';ll work with Lindholm, if Mike is still available.

We set up an appointment with the salesman at Lindholm Roofing. He brought us a lot of different samples and helped educate us on the many different types of shingles. He was very knowledgeable on materials and construction. We couldn't decide on exactly which shingle we liked best so he gave us a few quotes. When it came time to put the roof on the crew was on time and kept a clean work site. The house looks great and our experience with Lindholm Roofing couldn't have been better. They were courteous, professional and experienced.

I had a hard time finding a company to do the job since it was so small and not considered a high priority since the leak was in my house. I finally found them who agreed to do the job and even though they wouldn't be able to do it for several more weeks, they kept in touch with me. What was nice was that when I called them they always answered the phone and answered my question right then, I didn't have to wait for someone to call me back. The finished job is just beautiful, the employee was able to match the shingles perfectly! You wouldn't even know work ever had to be done. If I could rate them higher than an "A" I would!

From start to finish this company and their workers were disastrous. The salesperson was very nice before we decided to purchase this roof but then when it was installed and we had issues he was nowhere to be found. He seemed to have disappeared even though he still worked for the company. First when the roofing material arrived it was not the color or quality we had ordered. At this point my roof was bare and my home was only protected by plywood so I let them install it. This turned out to be the least of my problems. The workers did not know what they were doing. They had to make many repairs and multiple patches in the process of the install. It took several months to complete and even then they did not follow the manufacturer?s procedures or guidelines. The roof had several areas with pooling which they said they could not fix. The gutter they installed was too small and leaked water down the back of the house and in the winter months would develop ice sickles all along the bottom. The downspouts were not lined up with the drains properly either. They eventually replaced the gutter with a larger one that was more appropriate for our size property. The roofing material was loose and flaps in the wind making noises and causing us to be concerned with the integrity of the installation. We had to call and write to Lindholm roofing several times over the course of a year to get a manager or owner to help us. Eventually my husband and I sent Lindholm Roofing a Power Point brief with photos and specifications describing the problems. At that point, Bob Lindholm came to inspect the roof. He recognized the issues with the roof and agreed to completely re-install the roof. However, he decided he would put the same roof over top of the one the one they did incorrectly. My husband and I wrote out our expectations to successfully complete the job. Shortly after sending our letter to Mr. Lindholm he decided to not replace the roof at all. We were forced to ask the manufacturer for help. Duro-last had to send an expert to fix many of the Lindholm mistakes that were related to their product. Many problems could not be corrected. Within two years we discovered large amounts of water pooling under the membrane on the interior of our parapet wall. They had not properly terminated the material under the Limestone on top of the Parapet. We think it was confined and trapped in 2 specific areas between two pieces of the membrane. We don?t know if it leaked into other areas. They did not send a manager or one of the owners come back to investigate the damage or inspect the repairs. Lindholm sent workers out to remove the water and patch the mistakes again. They had to remove the Limestone and our Contractor had to install a metal coping cap. They left the Limestone on the roof for us the homeowner to carry down three flights of steps. We would like to install a roof deck, but have been reluctant, and might end up removing this roof and having another one installed by a better company. I could go on and on. The bottom line is DO NOT USE this company for your flat roof. I wish somebody would have warned me. Sorry I did not write this review earlier.
Description of Work: Lindholm came to our property to discuss options when we were having some leaking issues with our 20 year old rubber roof. Our General Contractor reccomended them and ultimated we decided to use them since they seemed to be experienced and had a great working relationship with our contractor. So we first had them remove the 20 year old deck and then the 20 year old rubber roof. They ordered a custom single ply membrane Duro-last roof and eventually installed it on flat roof on our 2-Flat home in Chicago. They also installed a new gutter and downspouts and reinstalled our existing gutter on a coup.

Response from Lindholm Roofing Inc
I would like to reiterate that this work was done in 2007, 5 years ago. We have since then improved our customer service greatly and spend much more quality time with each of our customers. My name is Bob Lindholm. I have been a roofer since 1978. My family has serviced thousands of customers over the last 50+ years. We are very proud of the great work we do and the fact that our customers are happy and keep coming back to us. As an honest and caring company, we stand behind our work and provide outstanding service. However, I have learned that sometimes, no matter how hard we try or how much we do, we cannot please everyone. Being a person that likes to please others, these are the kinds of things that keep me up at night. This business is personal to me. If we have an unhappy customer, I feel badly. In this case we devoted our resources over a span of 15 months on a job that could have been resolved in a week! At every turn, we were met with resistance and even further demands. The countless emails, meetings, spread sheets, power points, inspectors, consultants and outside contractors caused me to wonder what happened to the world I grew up in. I was raised to do a good job, stand behind my work and respond and solve any customer concerns. We did the work and had a few punch list items. We normally would return and take care of these kinds of issues within a timely manner. The customer became distrustful of us and began to make unreasonable demands. As the weeks turned into months, the demands grew. I would normally say that I am shocked that they are still angry and unhappy, but after re-reading all their old emails yesterday, I would say that I am not surprised. We are very thankful to have the good fortune to have this company and regret having even one unhappy customer. Running a business has its ups and downs. I am an optimist. I have always felt very lucky to be in this family and to have the privilege of working in this company. We continue to keep our chins up and do the best that we can for every customer. Sincerely, Bob Lindholm

Job went very well. Very professional. Others tried to talk me into a tear-off as this was a second roof but that was beyond my financial possibilities. They worked with me, gave me a good price, did the work quickly and professionally. I would definitely recommend giving them a try. Was very happy with the work. Good clean up around the house too. After other roofing jobs I have had done, found tons of roofing nails on my driveway, etc. Not so with them.

Cons HORRIBLE communication (only if I call and complain) INACCURATE estimates with no updates (78% higher than contract) SLOW (3+ months from contract to work) makes bandaids, not permanent fixes (replaced, not rebuilt) Last summer when we had all those rain storms, it started raining inside the top unit of our condo association. As Treasurer, I was tasked with getting the roof repaired. The problem was that joint between a porch roof and the building failed, so water was seeping through the brick and drywall of the ceiling. When I talked to the salesman, I mentioned that the other bids were for tearing off the roof and ceiling and rebuilding them. We expected to replace everything from the floorboards through the shingles, and I was interested in hiring them to do the roof part of that repair. Lindholm's bid was significantly lower than the others, so we hired them to repair the roof. By "repair the roof" I meant "keep the water out", but they heard "put on new shingles". The new shingles and fascia seem to keep the water out if it comes straight down. They charged me $1327 for new plywood, shingles, and fascia. However, they did not repair the damaged soffets or wood that was rotting because the previous roof had failed. The holes in the soffets were letting water in as well, so, I had to call them to come back out. I signed a second contract for the soffet repair and new gutters in October 2011. They finally came to do the work last week (January 25, 2012). The contract was for $800. Between October and January, I did not hear from them unless I called to complain that the work still wasn't done. I got a few "oh, you're on the schedule" remarks, but still, no one came. Then I got "oh, it's cold and windy" and no one came. Finally, in January, our complaint call got transfered to Steve Lindholm, and the work got done. Then I got a call this morning that our final cost for soffets and gutters will be $1420. That's 78% more than our original estimate. I'm not surprised that they needed to replace wood, and that's the cost difference, but they should have called me when they discovered they needed to do more work to give me a new estimate. I'm also pretty sure I got no Angie's List member discount even though I asked about it. I'm angry because they kept telling me I was on the schedule and then not showing up. If they'd been honest about not having time for us, then I would've found someone else to do the repair. As it was, I couldn't hire anyone else because I was still under contract with these jokers. Overall, working with Lindholm was frustrating. We had a small job, and I guess that made us unimportant. We're budgeting to get our flat roof, the main roof on the building, resurfaced this summer, and there's NO WAY that I will hire these guys. When I hired them, I thought the salesman understood that I wanted the roof replaced so that we wouldn't have the same problem again (water getting in to the ceiling of the top unit). One of the problems is that the roof slopes towards the building, so the joint between the roof and the building was where water got in. Instead of leveling the roof, they left it slanted, so we'll probably have this water problem again in a couple years. They put bandaids on the places that leaked rather than rebuilding to prevent leaks in the first place. Pros good job hiding the gutters roof looks nice, even if slanted the wrong way

Overall, poor communication. The quote was lo balled to get our business. The salesman made 2 trips to measure our house & garage and review services and product selection, the job was to be for the house and garage (detached garage). After the first quote, then the salesman called and said he made a mistake and would have to void the quote. I agreed to meet them half way with the added charges since they made a mistake, and I never heard from the salesman again. After speaking with one of the owners, they agreed to meet me half way on the new charges. Roof gets done but not the garage. Lindholm roofing claims the garage was never part of the job. I was accused by 2 "project managers" of trying to get a free garage roof. Completely insulting as I have perfect credit, and have been in the service industry for years. I eventually agreed to pay for the materials for the garage roof even though it was suppose to be included in the job. The agreement that I never signed did not say house and garage, but it did not say "house only" either. Job issues, there were nails left in my driveway and my neighbors driveway, our gates were left open and our 3 dogs got loose for 30 minutes. **I would recommend recording conversations with the sales person to verfiy the job project otherwise you could be accused of trying to cheat the company after they low ball the quote and try to add charges later. "PROCEED WITH CAUTION".

Lindholm Roofing spoke with this customer on several occasions to attempt to resolve the problem. As the homeowner stated in their review the contract did not specify for "House and Garage Roofs". In all of our estimates we use a reference line that designates what the work is for. For example, if we are doing work on the house and garage roofs we will state that clearly in the heading. Since this was unclear to the homeowner we agreed to meet them half way with the extra costs. We try our best to be fair and honest with each and every homeowner. We appreciate the feedback on our services and will do our best to be more communicative and clear on our estimates from now on.

Lindholm Roofing agrees to work with insurance companies if you are have a claim. However, we are contracted to work with the customer (not the insurance company) so we expect payment after the job is complete. We base our prices on current material and labor costs. Our prices may not be the lowest estimate you will find, but we produce good quality work that we believe is worth the cost. We have been around for over 60 years and have 3 generations of Lindholm family members in the business. This is a promise that we will be around for many years to come if you have an issue in the future. Please feel free to contact us to discuss your comments.

Crew arrived late which resulted in them finishing job in the dark. Rather than replace the shingles that required repair they selected a larger area and replaced many good shingles. As a result of finishing in the dark the clean up was poor with staples left on the driveway and debris around the house, including some on the roof itself which eventually fell into the gutters. Complained to sales person who claimed the crew could see better in the dark and rejected my complaint. Wrote a detailed letter to the owner, received a call from his manager apologizing for the problem but offering to do nothing to make it right. If you do contract with these guys you have to be there every minute to supervise. I would use someone else.

Thank you for your report. Our project manager and sales manager spoke to this member regarding their job. After speaking with the homeowner Lindholm Roofing found that we did all the work originally contracted. Our roofers are ensured to follow correct safety precautions including proper lighting. Our scheduling department tries to coordinate jobs in a similar area. If we are working on a house nearby and finish then we can get to the next house in late morning or early afternoon. We try to finish our work within same day if the conditions and work allow it. Lindholm Roofing uses hand nailing, staples are only used in the ridge area. Our roofers always try to clean up as best as they can. Unfortunately we may not always get everything. The homeowner is happy with the appearance of the work. We always appreciate the chance to better our customer service. Thank you, Lindholm Roofing

Poor communications.
Description of Work: My elderly neighbor was having her roof redone. As our house is only a few feet from hers (as is often the case in Chicago), I met the roofers and told them to work carefully so as not to damage my property, otherwise I would not allow them access through the locked gates. We agreed that no tarp would be hung from my new gutters, that instead they would use plywood against my house, with plywood also covering up my windows and the gutters where they ran down. It took two additional trips by Lindholm to live up to that agreement and I had to remind them and insist upon it, but in the end the work itself went fine. My advice is, these guys are legit roofers. Just make sure ahead of time of reasonable expectations your neighbors have and put anything beyond "blue tarp hanging off the gutters" down in writing. Also, mediate between Lindholm and your neighbor so there will be no misunderstandings or hurt feelings.

This member is not a customer of Lindholm Roofing. We have been in constant contact with the homeowner, because we are contracted to perform work with them. Our scheduling department called the homeowner each time we would be returning to the property. On our second trip we attempted to put up plywood over the neighbors second story window (which would require multiple sheets of plywood nail together). As experienced roofers this is not an easy or normal request to do, but we did not want to harm the neighbors property. The neighbor did not want us doing work without plywood over their windows, so at this time our crew left. The homeowner was disappointed that the work was being delayed, we apologized and made sure to have good communication with the customer and promised to be back out as soon as possible. Within a few days Lindholm Roofing finished the work originally contracted and some additional work the homeowner wanted. We never charged the homeowner for the extra time, material or labor that their neighbors request took. The homeowner is very happy with the work and the service they received from Lindholm Roofing. Our roofing crew did not harm the neighbors property while performing the work. At Lindholm Roofing we make an effort to have good customer service and be available for all of our customers. Although we were contracted to do work with our customer and not their neighbor; we did return on 3 different occasions to ensure no harm to their property. We are an honest family owned company that tries to help our customers in every situation. Please reference our previous reports to gauge an accurate description of our company.

They gave me a good estimate and the work seems fine, but they just came out and did the work and I didn’t even realize it. It was okay, I guess, but I wanted to be there. It was a small job for them but I still thought it was weird. I have to have the whole roof redone now, but I probably won't use them because they ticked me off.

When Lindholm Roofing performs repairs we call the homeowner 1-2 days in advance to let them know we will be out within a couple days. If we do not reach someone on the phone we make sure to leave a message if possible. In addition, our workers always ring the doorbell when they arrive to let you know they are there. We perform the work in this manner to provide the least amount of wait time for the customer. Of course we can arrange a time to perform the work while the customer is home. However, it may take longer to schedule or involve a slight price adjustment. Thank you for your feedback Member, please contact me directly at your convenience. Mallory Lindholm 773-283-7675

My roof is large and it took them 3 days rather than the 2 days they estimated. They started when I asked them to. They cleaned up all the debris, though I have found a few nails around the house. It turned out well and we have had no problems, especially with all the storms this summer.
Description of Work: They removed our old roof and put on a new one. They also replaced a sky light.

There were some mistakes made while the job progressed. The project manager/sales representative was careful to make sure each was addressed to our satisfaction prior to payment. Lindholm is willing to stand behind their work.
Description of Work: Lindholm replaced our flat garage and sloped house roofs. They also replaced our gutters, siding, and soffits. Their strength seems linked to their oversight provided by their project managers/sales representives. When problems arose, they were willing to fix them. They also were honest about not fixing things that did not need repair or replacement. A strength was their willingness to cooperate with other contractors who were working on our home.

The actual roofing went well. The men who worked on the roof protected the neighbors' houses, were courteous and responded immediately to any questions, and cleaned up quite well. I cannot be as complimentary about the project manager - it took over a month to get our orginal estimate. After we had signed the contract for the work, we were covering everything in the attic with tarps and noticed that the chimney did not look good. I called the project manager to come out and take a look at the chimney because I wanted it fixed if necessary before the roof was done. As it was early October there was some urgency about moving this along, but the project manager did not come for over a week and then only because the scheduler called to schedule the roof work. I ended up using a different company for the chimney work because I didn't have a lot of confidence in the project manager's assessment of the situation. Bottom line - if you use this company make sure the project manager responds to you. If not, call the office asap and ask for someone else. Office staff was very helpful.
Description of Work: I have contacted Lindholm twice for an estimate for a complete tear-off of my roof. I even spoke once to the estimator and sent him photos of our attic in early July so that he could price the job (we live in an old house). That was the last I heard of him. I called again recently (two weeks ago?)to ask where the estimate was. The woman on the phone apologized that I hadn't received one but would contact the estimator right away. Last week someone in a Lindholm truck drove down the block - and went in front of a house in the next block. Still no estimate. Update - I have changed the rating because Lindholm did call promptly after my initial rating was posted. The estimator was quite helpful. Update - Lindholm did do the tear-off (3 layers) and replacement of my roof, adding vents and an exhaust vent for a bathroom exhaust fan.

We contacted this customer directly to resolve any issues. One of our project managers had been out to the job earlier in the month after the customer called originally. However, an estimate was not written due to a need to communicate further. We have since gone out again and made sure we estimated everything the customer wanted.
