Services we offer
We are a contemporary lighting retailer that also offers consultations and lighting design services.
The lighting consultant at Lightology on Chicago Ave showed me options and was polite. I liked a pair of lighting fixtures (about $2000). We agreed she would email a quote/purchase order quickly as I was working with a tight deadline. I assumed (perhaps should not have made this assumption) that she was going to send it later that day. By the morning of the third day, when I had not heard from her, I called and left a voicemail. Finally at the end of the day, she emailed me the order which was wrong. it was for the pair of lighting fixtures i liked but one of them was for a different size. With the poor response and incorrect order, I decide to call Ferguson and got the fixtures I needed ordered in 5 minutes and they were here 3 days later. Along with the bathroom lighting, I also needed a new fixture for my den. It was a fixture I found on several websites - all for the same price - but decided to go with Lightology because I wanted to support a Chicago business and I thought it would be easier to return. WRONG. When the light fixture arrived, I realized right away I purchased the wrong finish (my fault, not theirs). I called Lightology to exchange it and was told the manufacturer required a 50% restocking fee which I thought was excessive. I decided to call the manufacturer to see if I could return it directly to them and ask about their restocking fee. She said they don't have a restocking fee; it's up to each retailer and I would need to work with the retailer. When I went back to Lightology and told them I called the manufacturer, they said "good news, it's only 30%". He lied twice. I checked other websites who sold the same product and they had no restocking fee. Lightology's poor customer service was contrasted by two other returns I needed to make at the same time - one was for unused tile from Porcelenosa and the other was for hardware from Signature Hardware. Both companies refunded my purchase price the same day they received the items and there was not stocking fee. As far as my return to Lightolgy, I took the light back to their warehouse. over 10 days ago and I'm still waiting for my refund. It's such a shame. Their showroom is beautiful and it's nice to have lighting consultants nearby but their customer service is so bad and untrustworthy that I will never go back.
Description of Work: I went to Lightology on Chicago Ave to discuss lighting options for my bathroom remodeling. At the same time, I also purchased lighting for my den through their website. Because my experience with the lighting consultant at their store was poor, I decided to purchase my bathroom lighting elsewhere.

We used Lightology for almost all of our fixtures for a new construction home. Please learn from my mistake! It's really a struggle to come up with anything positive to say about the experience of shopping with Lightology. First, when you show up at the store, the sales staff acts like they are very frustrated to deal with a customer directly as opposed to a contractor. They do not provide much assistance in explaining the technical requirements, the differences between available options or in determining the prices for their fixtures (their pricing system can be very opaque). Then, if you're unlucky enough to have actually ordered something from them, the customer service is awful. I understand if something is back ordered and takes some time to arrive, but we often got mixed (and sometimes blatantly wrong) reports on what was available for pickup. At one point we were given the wrong fixtures for pickup and, when we finally did get a correct order pickup, the fixture arrived broken. It was difficult to reach someone at the warehouse over the phone and -- when we did -- we got cut off on multiple occasions (also phone messages were not returned). In short, there's nobody at the wheel here; it's basically been like pulling teeth to try to get them to do their job. I know that they have a nicer showroom than a lot of stores, but I would avoid Lightology at all costs.
Description of Work: Sold light fixtures for new construction home.

Overall, we were disappointed by our experience with lightology and would likely not use them again. We initially met with a sales consultant there, Moises, who sat down with us for 2 hours and had some great suggestions and we were very impressed by how knowledgable he was about various light fixtures that would suit our needs. The selection at lightology is great, albeit expensive and with longer lead times. After we placed our initial order, we had asked the sales consultant to follow up on a couple of other light fixtures that we had additional questions on (such as when will they be in stock, etc). We never heard back from the sales consultant, and after repeated attemps to call and email him, it regularly took weeks to get back to us. After we realized this sales associate was not going to work, we asked another sales associate for information, who promised to get back to us the next day after she had a chance to call the lighting manufacturers. We had a similar experience in that she never called us back. Finally, in the end, we called and spoke to a third sales associate to whom we expressed our frustration, and she actually followed up with us after a few days. So maybe there are some more responsive individuals at the store, but my sense is that it is not the norm. Overall, it was very disappointing to see that a store with such high quality inventory has such poor customer service. If they are trying to position themselves as a higher end lighting store (and charge the applicable prices), they really need to work on improving their service.
Description of Work: We ordered a variety of light fixtures for our new home from lightology including wall sconces, chandeliers and other ceiling-mounted lighting.

Very well. The track lights and fixtures weren't cheap, and there was a wait for some of the components, and it was a couple week wait for the repairman: but everyone was professional, responsive, and the end results were great.
Description of Work: I purchased four track lights and lights/pendants for these from Lightology. One of the track lights had a flaw (or in fact we may have left one of the lights screwed in incorrectly, causing the flaw), and Lightology sent a repairman who fixed it.

Our kitchen designer and company recommended to go to Lightology and meet with Kara Manning. She looked over our plans and suggested Led strip plug n play system for lighting under our cabinets. The system can be dimmed and was very easy to install. We had an electrician that had not put this system in before and we were able to call Lightology for technical support. He was able to install the transformers and we just pealed the Led lighting strips plugged them in to the connectors and placed them under the cabinets. The amount of light they give off is just wonderful for task lighting and they can be dimmed too! Being LED they are energy efficient an will last a long time. Kara did a wonderful job and knows her product. The LED system was actually cheaper that the halogen system our designer had recommended and also does not give off as much heat on the cabinets. Would recommend this place.
Description of Work: Looked over kitchen design plans, recommended under cabinet lighting ideas, energy efficient LED strips, measured amount of product we needed and provided cost. Shipped to home and also provided phone support during installation.
