1) What was installed was not was discussed. The design was not practical. Space was lost from the closet due to the design. The potential was there, but it appeared that they installed what they had in stock - not what we discussed. 2) It is one year and yet not completed. Although 2 meetings were agreed upon, the owner was a no-show. We had to steal some product and finish things ourselves. 3) The workmanship is shoddy - cracked marble, fixtures put in at an angle. The toilet wasn't fixed. The walk-in closet needed to be ripped out. There were cracks in the wood made on installation. The grout was not sealed and poorly applied. Workmen arrived intending to do what we had not agreed upon. 4) I received constant begging for the money. A series of emails to all clients were sent promising to finish projects once new projects were signed up for - implying that there was no money to complete projects at this time. Other clients were behind ours. 5) We had to hire other contractors to finish the project.
Description of Work: This was a complete bathroom remodeling, with a walk in closet

We met once at my house and once at his showroom to discuss doing a kitchen redesign. He was prompt and professional, but he was very pushy and not very responsive to what I was looking for regarding my kitchen. In the end, the last time we spoke on the phone, I told him that we would be using someone else. He asked why and I felt like I should be honest and let him know that there 3 reports filed against him that remained on his better business bureau report. He told me that they must be false and that he would look into them. I politely thanked him for his time and consideration of my project and I thought that was it. Instead, he called me 2 or 3 more times. I did not answer my phone and he left me voicemail messages going on and on about how the better business bureau reports were untrue and that he had everything cleared up, etc. I found these emails unsettling and was glad when he figured out I was not going to use him and stopped calling me. My advice is to stay away!
Description of Work: We did not hire this company due to the fact that a) after our second meeting, I had a bad feeling about them and b) I found some bad ratings through the better business bureau.

The potential Client has indicated that she did see the negative reports on BBB and I have advised her that my Co. rating was "satisfactory" with BBB and that she should revisit with that fact! At the end the Client USED my design on paper and my ideas on how to remodel above and beyond, both her and her husband were very gladly surprised that I have given them "all these great ideas", as they put it and then used somebody else as unfortunately happens many times over! Conclusion, very unethical behavior on the member's behalf! She received a very valued design info and then as a thank you note gave it to another Contractor to use them!

K+B+A Kitchen and Bathrooms Arts is located on the second floor of Lake Point Tower. He has done over 10 units in the building. I signed a contract on October 8, 2008 with a $85,000 deposit for a complete remodel of my unit. He was suppose to begin work in December 2008. No work has ever been started. He has refused to refund my deposit. The City of Chicago, Brian White contacted me in February to tell me this guy does not have a contractors license. No work can be done to my unit. I have to hire another Contractor and have lost my deposit. This guy needs to be stopped. He has my unit and another unit in the building and another unit. All have lost their money.Don't use this company. or Deyan Vuksanovic.
Description of Work: The contract was signed October 8 2008 with a 50% deposit. No work was ever done. He does not have a contractors license. The City of Chicago Brian White called February 28, and stated that no work could be done by this guy because he obtained the permits without being a contractor. He has refused to refund my deposit. He is located on the second floor of Lake Point Tower and has shown several of the units that he has done all without a permit from the city.

-The member came with her designer friend to my showroom, which is located in the same building where her apt. is located! She told me that she wanted to renovate her place complete (gut remodel) and that she liked what I have to offer for that objective on her part! -I took her and her designer to several of my previously finished projects (4-5) and both of them were visibly impressed and both of them told me of their feeling re: my work, which were very positive! -I started working very hard to create a state of the Arts design layout for the project, selection of all finished materials, along side the over all price! -The member came for the final presentation of all that and liked all and gave me a 50% deposit (which is required by the industry's standard) to start the process of ordering all the materials, rough and finished, studs, drywall, wood flooring, tiles, cabinets, appliances, bath fixtures...all! -Few weeks there after she, influenced by her realtor (the member told me that her self) who "works" in the same building for my competitor and brings him all her clients, became reluctant and scared that after hearing a lot of deliberate lies by the realtor (the member told me of that later) about my business and wanted to cancel the project and asked for the money back! -Naturally I did my best, after I was initially in the deep distress (worked tirelessly for many weeks to get going with the project) over her reversal, to make sure that once again she is comfortable with our project. I faxed her my 15 Client Reference list, I further sent her the documents were in 2006 I was in the top 500 remodelers in the country (56th), sent her the documents that I was I president 2002-2006 of the small business association Owners for the state of Illinois, I sent to her the copy of the thank you letter from the President of the US for being an outstanding businessman and the citizen, I also had several of my past Clients (3) call the member to tell her of their support of my work my work ethics and my talents! -After all that the member decided to continue to work with me, and asked me to meet with her again at my showroom! This time she came with another gentleman by the name of Ron Shoffet, who was introduced to me as her family friend, her financial adviser and her designer! We had a good meeting and the trust was re established! As a matter of fact Mr. Shoffet hired me to do the kitchen and two bathrooms in his apt. that him too was remodeled at the time (but after receiving the cabinets and the appliances from me as well as some other items he abruptly stopped all the correspondence and basically stiffed me for some $10,000.00)! -During our meeting Mr. Shoffet was making very frequently "funny" remarks how for all of this work I should charge the member some huge amounts of money after he heard about all that we were doing with the project! He too saw my works! -As a part of the project's routine paper work, I was required to submit all to the Building's board for the routine approval and the board/Management office sent me to the Chicago City Hall to get a permit for the projects from the building and zoning Department, something that over the years I was doing on many of my projects! -I submitted the paper work with the listing of my subs and with my Company's work certificates (insurance as well) and all looked really normal and ready to go! -Several days after that the permit department Manager called me and told me that my "Home Repairs License" is no longer sufficient enough for me to get a permit and that I was required to get a General Contractors work license! The member was notified of this as well as the Management of the building of where the work was to take place! -I have immediately met with the building and zoning Manager and I have submitted my paper work for the required license! Previously I have incorporated a Co. by the name of Design Home Deluxe, Inc. back in 2007 with the idea to expend my work and to start building homes and not just do remodeling which I have been doing for the past 26 years now! So the Co. on paper DHD was activated and it was registered as the General Contracting Co. at the City hall! -My contract with her was in the name of my home repair co, Kitchen and Bathroom Arts, Inc. and as I did with three other customers who's work I was doing at the same time with her, all from the same building, I have them signed off on the new company's letter head with the same contract details so that I could submit all of the paper work to the City! -All three of those other clients’ permits were issues and hers was also ready to be issued, but then she refused to sign the new/old contract under the different name as it was required by the City Hall! -Several things lead to her, again, reluctance: first the fact that the member lives on the permanent time bases in Indiana, she became uncomfortable to be contacted by Chicago City Hall official, that scared her, then she thought that I was incompetent to get a permit, she felt that I will never (in her own wards) get a permit, but after I faxed her the other three permits for my other Clients which were doing the work in the same building where she has her own apr. she stil????? did not come down! Her friend Ron Shoffit (also who is into construction business) realizing that she is spending "all this money", started to discourage her to continue working with me siding that he can do the work for her and that he gets "all that" money and perhaps much more! -My team members did not hell the situation either, all the cabinets, appliances, tiles...were ordered and when they heard of the difficult situation which was developing, they persuaded me to have them call the member directly and to ask for more money, wanted to cover my potential losses if she cancels the projects with me! -My team members feared that I would be as I still am stuck with custom made cabinets for her kitchen, bathrooms, appliances and tiles! But those calls to her only increased her resolve to cancel the work with me! All of my later efforts, endless phone conversations with her were fruitless! -I also suggested that for the money that she has paid me I can use that to deliver a substantial quantity of finish materials (all that is in writing) and I faxed that document/suggestion to her as well! -Unfortunately she has responded negatively to all of this and with that in my firm opinion has deprived her self of having the State of the Arts new Apt. remodeling (pl. referral to my web address www.designhomedeluxe.com)! -I would still not hesitate for a minute and I would do her place as originally planed! -Any more questions, pl. don't hastate to call me at 773 259 8142; At your Service, Deyan L. Anne Hyman is 83 years old, diabetic & has a heart condition. She hired Deyan Wolfson, owner of KITCHEN AND BATH ARTS to re-model her kitchen. At his request, she paid a deposit in July 2007 & signed the first contract in August, 2007. We stopped trying to work with him in April, 2008 nine months after my mother gave him the deposit. She had been left without a kitchen for five months. They tore the kitchen out, disposed of all the appliances except for the refrigerator, put only partial cabinets in & disappeared. She could hardly walk or get around, has a heart condition & had been washing her dishes in the bathroom sink for five months. She had no stove, no microwave & her refrigerator was in the living room. When the new cabinets arrived (four months after the contract was signed), Deyan Wolfson, put the large boxes in the living room. He had her empty her entire kitchen & put her food, dishes, pots, pans, etc. in boxes. They were put in her living room, along with the very large cabinet boxes. The boxes took up her entire living room you couldn t walk in the living room or find anything from what used to be her kitchen. It stayed that way for months before the new cabinets were installed in January. When the cabinet boxes were opened, it was revealed that Mr. Wolfson completely measured the kitchen wrong, so he needed to re-order new cabinets (which he did not), some had to be manually cut down and others couldn't be used at all! In addition, they were not the color or design that my mother ordered & contracted items were not even ordered. Unfortunately, she had no choice but to accept them and the initial cabinets were finally installed at the beginning of January, 2008. Eight months after the original contract was signed, what used to be Anne s kitchen was only incomplete cabinets (the bottom cabinets were not even secured) and electric outlets hanging from the sockets. The kitchen had no lights, countertops, sink or appliances. There were large gaps in the cabinets where new ones needed to be purchased & there were three brand new cabinets (that she paid for) that could not be used. The family spent hours and hours dealing with Mr. Wolfson, to no avail. Every promise he made was broken, every word - a lie. When he started asking for more money than initially contracted & we discovered that he had lied about the new cabinets & countertops being ordered (& that he owed money to his workers and vendors for the kitchen) we decided to find a new contractor to finish her kitchen. The new contractor discovered many problems that they had to correct, at additional cost to my mother including electrical work related to installing a light switch outside the kitchen because they had buried the one in the kitchen, repairing & staining the wood floors they damaged, trying to compensate for the incorrect installation of a fuse box, repairing their electrical work, & she had to put for more cabinets!
Description of Work: Deyan Wolfson was contracted to remodel a 10X10 very small kitchen for $25,000 for my mother, Anne Hyman. A $12,000 deposit was put down with him. He was hired to tear out the cabinets, purchase and install new cabinets, appliances, lighting, etc. He decided to move the sink to another area of the kitchen (which didn't make any sense) so plumbing was necessary also. He also was to make an opening to the living room with an arch. After nine months, we let him go. In order to complete the kitchen with another contractor, including repairing all of his mistakes (or his sub-contractors' mistakes) and ordering new cabinets, she spent over $50,000 for a 10X10 kitchen.

Similar complaints were posted by the same Client with BBB, my response was the same, the Client wanted and sign for a very low price/quality items for her kitchen remodeling, cabinets in imitation wood, thin granite counter top with no back splash, signed for the design which keeps all as in, but as the work has unfolded started to ask for all kinds of upgrades and unwilling to pay for it! Solid wood cabinets, custom frame work for cabinets, double thickness granite tops with a full high back splash, high end appliances, twice as high in cost then the Contract listed ones, I still was able to do all the upgrades for a minimum price increase (12% instead $25+) the client started dealing with my subs directly and left town! Upon her return she never answered any of my many phone massages to continue with our work assignment!

TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE!! Work began 6/26/07. Over the next 7 months, K & B Arts crew worked fewer than 3 months! After an initial flurry of activity in July, the work was very sporadic (from August through January, total time worked was less than 2 months) Much later, I discovered there was no money for materials, suppliers hadn't been paid, crew hadn't been paid for weeks, etc. By January, 2008 not a single room was completed. For example, only 1 of the living room bookcases had been installed, less than 1/2 of the office built-in cabinets and bookcases had been installed, powder room sink and cabinet were missing, shelving/accessories in the kitchen cabinets was missing, the Wolf range was installed with incorrect accessories, no handles on any of the bathroom cabinets, no handles on any of the living room or office cabinets, no light fixtures in any of the 3.5 bathrooms or on 3 stairwells, recessed lighting throughout the house is too small for the ceiling height (6" canisters should have been installed instead of 4" ones) now, all rooms are too dark and the lighting is insufficient. All of the missing items (that had been paid for) are too numerous to list! Wolfson has no/limited design skills; he's unable to follow a detailed design and blueprint for the office that had been put together by a certified professional. His designs were full of problems, impractical, and didn't take into account the client's specified request. KBA's design decisions were, to put it kindly, incompetent. For example, Wolfson hadn't planned on putting up a door for the master bathroom until I demanded one (a pocket door should have been installed but instead Wolfson put up a door that hits you whenever it's opened/closed and you're standing at the sink), the frameless shower door hits the toilet every time it's opened or closed, the master shower bench is crudely designed and tiled, wrong tiles were used in another bathroom (they were decorative only and not meant for a shower), expensive glass tiles were ruined upon installation, etc. Again, the mistakes/bad design decisions are too numerous to list! Wolfson is extremely unorganized and always played catch-up with the project. The work was never properly scheduled or planned (which translated into a lot of mistakes). This man is very lazy and unethical. I have many instances of unauthorized substitution of products (for example, he regularly tried to sneak in local department store house brands instead of the Grohe and Kohler products specified in the contract, cheap cabinets made of particleboard instead of oak). He only showed up when he wanted $ (no exaggeration); he gave our project minimum guidance and attention. We paid for numerous items that were either never delivered or were of inferior quality and not what was specified in contract. Quite simply, this man lied, cheated, and stole from us. Don't be fooled by his Sunday Chicago Tribune ads. My advice is DO NOT USE KITCHEN & BATHROOM ARTS, INC.
Description of Work: Kitchen and Bathroom Arts, Inc. (also known as Kitchen & Bathroom Arts, K & B Arts, K+B+A, KBA, kbarts) was under contract to renovate a 3 story home. This included installing recessed lighting and hardwood flooring throughout the house, and flooring in 2 atriums. The contract also included fully remodeling the kitchen, 3.5 bathrooms, an office (adding built-in bookshelves, cabinets, etc.), adding built-in bookcases in living room, and installing a new fireplace front/mantel. The contract covered all design, labor, materials, appliances, fixtures, lighting, painting, professional clean-up, etc. The owner, Deyan Wolfson (also known as Deyan Vuksonovic) claims to offer one-stop design and contracting services of impeccable quality (a complete range of service with customized solutions, well-known design, materials, and labor). We paid a 50% deposit at time of contract signing in late April, 2007. Wolfson stated that the entire project (from start to finish) should take 3 months (4 months under a worse case scenario). By January, 2008 KBA not only failed to perform all work specified in contract, they also failed to deliver all items/goods. Also, Wolfson regularly tried to substitute cheaper products for those that were listed in the contract (he installed bookcases made of particleboard, he made an unauthorized switch to a cheaper cabinetry brand for all bathrooms, etc.). After more than 7 months of work, not a single room was finished (in fact, we had moved out of our home from June through November to ensure that the work was completed on time. We moved back after Thanksgiving-- after giving Wolfson more than one month's notice-- to a home that didn't have a sink in a single bathroom, one toilet on the lower level, no kitchen, and was absolutely filthy).

This Client is a perfect example on how a well to do and greedy Customers get what they want! This lady praised and was in love with my design ability and talents on the highest end! Kept re insuring her amazement with my design ability as the work progressed! But when I got the work process into a punch list (last 5% of things need to be completed) she fired me owing me 30%!!!! of unpaid payments!!!! $39,500.00 in all! I gut remodeled her house, made it bright and sunny, I have increased her recess light input after she was not initially happy! I constantly re worked many design details, because she was not sure of how she wanted things to look, and never charged her for all that! Another State of Art project from me went on to being ill fated criticized instead rightfully praised!

1st demolition 2/26/07. Estimated completion 4 wks for both baths. I planned on 8 weeks. Five months later I am still struggling w/completion. Design was creative, but work that followed was done off of a sketch. No architectural plans were ever done. Caused a ton of problems. Workers showed up when they wanted. When the did show up it was 3pm and were working into the dinner hour. I accommodated their schedule giving them full access to my home, even when I traveled to expedite the work. Cabinet came with wrong stain, items installed wrong, hallway patched w/wrong size wallboard leaving it lumpy.Owner not in control of what was happening. Poor communication w/workers. He contacted me when payments were due. Called 7 times for final payment, not knowing the workers hadn't finished. I updated him! fax upon fax. He threatened workers to finish. Subcontractors careless. 1 ceiling started falling down after 2 weeks.Sunday Ads are beautiful but don't judge book by cover. Can't recommend ever.
Description of Work: Two full baths were totally renovated. Changed Bathtub to shower in one bath. Two hall closets were eliminated to make the bathrooms larger with in room storage units. New fixtures, flooring, tile, mirrors, medicine cabinets, shower doors, and storage cabinets in both bathrooms. A pocket door was installed in master bath to allow for more room in bathroom. Painting the walls and the pocket door was stained off site.

The work was finished in a high quality, the over all end result was in a very high quality, the price was AAA+++ the above problems with the construction process along with the communication issues were all true! These above indicated issues were a rough model of the typical problems of the 90% of the construction problems, these were not unique! Again, the end result was very very high quality!
