+ -1 moreEstimate was fast the guy knew exactly what the problem was and how to fix it. He fixed the door and opener quickly and 6 months later the door is still working great! Would use them again for garage door repair.
Description of Work: Garage door was not opening or closing correctly as the door was caving in in the middle. Also the opener itself had a broken part and needed to be replaced.

Description of Work: My cable on my garage door had broke. I called KG fo an estimate I was told a technician would be by between 4and 5 that after noon.I belive it was after 5 when the tech did arrive in the mean time I did receive calls to keep me updated as to what was going on.When( Bill) the tech arrived he explained the service that I would need and the cost .I was pleasantly suprise when he said he could fix the door that day I only expected an estimate,and the price was really affordable. Bill also cleaned up anything he messed up.Thanks KG for such courteous and professional employees.

+ -1 moreJosh has done work for me in the past, some of it quite creative, and he continues to be my go-to guy for all my garage door problems (I own/manage a few small apartment buildings). He's always been prompt, he's never tried to "up-sell" me into replacing or buying something I don't need or want, he charges VERY fair prices, and he seems to always do a little bit extra after finishing the main repair... for example, this time he sprayed a little WD-40 on a few rusty hinges. I didn't ask him to do it or anything. He just noticed it and took care of it on his own. (I hope I don't set some unfair expectation so that everyone who reads this will expect additional services for free, because that is not what I meant nor is it his policy or whatever. Just take it for what it is.) That shows me his dedication and pride in his work, and that's why I've already referred him to several other people and will continue to do so.
Description of Work: I have a few rental properties and two garage doors were broken basically on the same day in two completely different ways. Even though there was no rush to get them fixed, Josh was able to visit and repair the doors at both locations, one in Evanston and the other near Foster and California... less than 24 hours after I called in the jobs. I actually thought the repairs would be more extensive than they ended up being, which means he had an opportunity to rip me off by selling me on making the unnecessary repairs I was expecting to need. I have an MBA, so I can spot the scam artists a mile away (we actually take a class on that), but Josh is the genuine article. I'm also curious by nature and like to learn what went wrong/how things get fixed/etc., and he patiently walked me through his process without acting perturbed or anything. This guy obviously knew his stuff and was very professional in his demeanor. He was quick without being rushed, and I really appreciated that given my own time constraints.

Description of Work: Josh and his colleague installed two glass-panel (modern style) garage doors around April 2011. These are beautiful doors that have received many compliments. One of the doors recently began to stall upon opening. This was caused by the inherent nature of glass-panel doors and the two-track rail system being less smooth than a conventional garage door system. Josh came exactly when he said he would, and performed a simple modification to the electric door opener (increased the pulling force by adjusting a knob) to resolve the issue. He didn't charge for this. I'm a very happy customer and will definitely use K G Doors again when the need arises.

I asked after he finished if he can install my keyless pad entry since I trusted his work and he did for a minimal charge. I highly recommend!

He arrived within the allotted time and made the necessary repair (replacement of the gear assembly). Additonally he found an additional problem with the internal wiring which he also corrected. Very professional and complete service.

He called me at 5:40 PM saying that he was on his way, and would be there in about half an hour. He called in about 20 minutes, parked in the alley by the garage. After assessing the problem, Josh gave me an estimate - very fair - and quickly fixed the problem. My garage door now works really well, and I couldn't be happier. I would definitely recommend KG Doors.

+ -1 moreI called them today to come out for an estimate to fix the gate to our parking lot. He took one look and fixed it immediately, taking about 10mins. I'm not sure if $100 was too much, just right or not enough. He was professional, knowledgeable and skillful! Another company came out and said it would take about 2 hours to fix.....thank goodness KG Doors came right after them!

+ -1 moreI called KG DOORS and set up an appointment for the next day. He arrived on time, seemed polite, no nonsense guy, checked it out and gave me an estimate. Eventhough, I was hoping to salvage some part of the old system, I knew it had to be replaced. He suggested a steel reinforced door, a little more costly, but worth it because people kept hitting our old door with their cars and cracking it. His estimate seemed to be in line with the figures I had checked out before. We said do it. The job was complete in a couple of hours, and the new remote works !!! He cleaned everything up, dismantled the old door and put it out for the trash pick-up. I would call them again.
Description of Work: Our garage door and mechanism was in bad shape. When the remote would no longer work I finally called for help. After reading the reviews I choose KG Doors. The entire thing had to be replaced, the double door, and the motor which was old.

The service tech was prompt and courteous, quickly evaluated the problem and provided an estimate of $190 for the work. This estimate included a strut that "should have" existed, but didn't. He finished quickly, recalibrated the opening and closing tension and adjusted the tracks as well. The latter two services were performed without additional cost. The tech's demeanor and professional knowledge were top rate. I would feel comfortable recommending their services in the future.

+ -1 moreI'm a bit complex to work with, as I live in Phoenix, and my properties are in Schaumburg, IL. After calling another "A" rated company on Angie's List, they couldn't work around my tenant's availability. Josh at KG Doors "made it happen". He was flexible with times and days to schedule, showed up on time, and was professional with my tenants. He didn't seem to think working with me was complex at all! Apparently one of the springs "sprung" (or something to that effect) on the garage door, (which he thought might be the case before he even saw the problem, based on what my tenants relayed to me). Josh also charged me a bit under the original quote, as I was a bit shell shocked with how much these things can cost sometimes . Josh really seems to know his stuff, though, and I'll be calling him again for any issues.
Description of Work: Tenants called and said garage door wouldn't go up all the way.

+ -1 moreHad reached out to get bid on replacing garage door. They were responsive in getting us price and usually replied fairly quickly to email inquiries/questions. When we followed up with request for specific price on specific type of door and finishings they said that they could not provide price as they were not sure what model it was. i had sent them link with an exact picture of the type of door we liked (color/panel type/size/windows) with link coming from the garage door manufacturer that they use. We never rec'd a response back.

+ -1 moreOur wireless garage door openers stopped functioning. After we determined it was something we couldn't fix, we called K G due to the excellent reports on Angie's list. We set up an appointment for the free evaluation. The tech arrived early and determined the cause of the problem was a malfunctioning board. We discussed the cost of putting in a new system versus just the board, and after discussion, we determined the door system had a good 5-10 years of life in it, so a board replacement was appropriate. The board was changed quickly, remotes tested, and wireless entry re-calibrated. He tightened the chain a bit and explained the tension rods on the apparatus. All in all a wonderful experience!
Description of Work: Our car remotes and wireless keyless entry no longer worked (but the hard-wired wall garage door opener worked). The tech came out and determined the problem was the PCB board. Board was replaced and keyless entry reprogrammed.

+ -1 moreWe had a very positive experience with KG Doors. When the tech came out he gave me a quote prior to starting the work (they provide free quotes). Then while he was working on it, he found some additional issues that he didn't realize when he gave me the quote which he fixed but didn't charge me for. I thought they were reasonably priced (they do have a $75 minimum), thorough, and responsive. I would definieitly hire them again!
Description of Work: Our garage door had stopped working and we were having to open and close it manually. KG Doors came out and diagnosed the issues and then repaired the door which is now working again.
