K G Doors

I sent an e-mail to K G after reading a number of good reviews on Angies List. I described that I had already diagnosed the problem with my garage door after spending several hours trying to fix it myself and consulting by phone with another company (who did not show up when they said they would). After trying several things, I figured out that the repair was relatively simple - replace two small plastic gears that drive the limit switches on the opener and had worn out. Having no idea where to get the part and anxious to get my door working, I sent an e-mail to KG requesting a service call. K G responded to my request very promptly and sent a two man crew over. My wife reported that they finished the work in 10 minutes and handed her a $175 bill. This charge seems excessive for four reasons: 1) They did not apply the discount they advertised on the website, 2) I had already taken the opener apart and diagnosed the issue saving them significant time, 3) It only took 10 minutes, and 4) The light which was working fine before they came was broken after they left. I sent an e-mail to the company pointing this out and they never responded.

Please see comments above, but the experience was painless and easy. The employee called to let me know when he was on his way and was very knowledgeable and professional once he arrived. Although he only had to repair a sprocket, our garage door works better than we moved in 3 years ago and we are thrilled to have our cars synched to the garage door(finally!). Would definitely use this company again!

My garage door broke on the evening of the 4th of July. I called K G on the 5th, a Sunday, to schedule an appointment, and within a few hours they called me back. I set up an appointment for the following day. The serviceman arrived early for the appointment and fixed the door in 20 minutes. The door works great, and he even replaced the blown out light bulb.

Our garage door become askew Saturday and would not open automatically. After careful inspection, we realized one of the bolts holding the track to the garage had split the 2x4 it was screwed into, causing the whole mechanism to fail. My husband called K G Doors Monday morning and they said they'd send someone out that day for an estimate between 2-4. It ended up being a little later, but Josh called my husband ahead of time to let him know he was having an issue at another job. When Josh arrived, he inspected the damage from the split 2x4 and the damage we caused trying to get the door to close manually and gave us a quote of $100 and offered to fix it on the spot. We agreed and 30 minutes later, the garage door was operating way better than it ever had before.

It went great. They came out the same day and did the job in about 30 minutes. They were very professional and efficient.

Called them in the late afternoon after encountering the problem when trying to get my car out of my garage. They came out the very next morning and upon their examination, we discussed the cause of the problem (20-year old pair; very old and had given me some fits over the winter but I kept hoping for the best). I inquired at length about my options (service vs. replacement) and got excellent information about the type of equipment they recommended (Lift Master). Decided to pull the trigger and we set the appointment for the very next morning, a Saturday (at no extra charge). I thought that was GREAT. Subsequently, I did some internet research on opener brands and satisfied myself that Lift Master was as good as it gets, which they claimed in our conversation. They came out the next day as scheduled and quickly got to work. They accommodated my request to make sure I could work around the new equipment when removing a faux ceiling in the garage. This required that they remove some of it themselves and I really appreciated it! Went over the operation of the remotes and the wall console with me. It all went incredibly smoothly and I am relieved that I have a modern system in place (actually has sensors now) that won't fail me on winter days and evenings. Both individuals were very expert and very professional. I had not gotten multiple bids so I do not know how to rate them on value. But the good reports on Angie's List prompted me to forego putting effort into dogging other bids. I paid $375 for each Lift Master and its installation.

Can't say anything bad about this company. They're pros.

I discovered my garage door unable to open or close on Frday night. I heard the motor running, but the chain wasn't moving. I called on a Saturday morning, sometime around 9am, and someone was out within two hours on a very cold day. Amazing. The tech said the gear was broken/stripped inside the motor, but he had the part in his truck and he could fix it on the spot. Took him about 30 min. When he gave me the bill and I said there was an Angie's List coupon on the web site, he shrugged, said OK, put in the discount, smiled and thanked me for the business, and left. I found out later that day he also fixed the bulb (that has been out for years) inside our garage door light; I never asked him to, he did it on his own. He also gave advice on how to prevent the problem from happening again (clear all ice and snow under garage door before closing it).

Great experience. Called the company about 11 am. They called back within minutes and scheduled me for an afternoon appointment. Josh called to let me know when he was on his way. Quickly assessed and got right to work fixing the problem. He also replaced the springs on my neighbors door and greased components on 3 doors in total. My work was done for $120. Neighbor's spring were replaced/greased for $150. Very fast, quotes were reasonable, very professional. I highly recommend them and will use them for any repairs in the future.

A very good experience. They came out the next day and did the work after I ok'd the estimate. It took less than an hour. The repairman was on time, friendly, explained the work and kept his word regarding the estimate.

I called K G at 7.15 am the following day. Josh returned my call very quickly and said Derek would come to the house between 10-12 am. Derek arrived about 10.30. He quickly and efficiently made all of the necessary repairs. Shortly after he left, I noticed one adjustment that was necessary: in the closed position, there was a small gap between the bottom of the door and the floor. I called Josh who called Derek who returned immediately. He made the necessary adjustment.

After getting a few estimates, I called Josh back to do the work. He was able to come out a few days later and install the door. He was also able to replace our broken door opener switch on the spot. He has a 5% off coupon through Angie's list so we saved $40 on the project. He was punctual and the job was completed quickly.

We called them for an estimate and they came out the next day at the time we requested. They gave us prices and time frames on both replacing two doors and converting the opening to a single door. Their prices were in line with other companies we checked. They were personable and seemed to care about what we wanted. We scheduled a time for the work and they arrived about 30 minutes ahead of time. They estimated the work would take two to three hours, which it did. They cleaned up the area and left everything in working order. We would definitely use them again and recommend them to others.

I called K G about 9:30 am. A technician called back withing 15 minutes. He happened to be in the neighborhood and was at my place withing 10 minutes. He diagnosed the problem and was able to fix it with in 25 minutes. From start to finish, the whole process took about an hour.

He blew me off twice. They were supposed to come out one day, and they called me two minutes before telling me they couldn't come. We set up another time and they failed to show up again. I waited around all day, and I was livid when they didn't show up. I would have paid them on the spot to do the work, but now I will not use them in the future.

He was here on time and did a nice job. He even showed me the part that was worn out. The door is now functioning properly.

The garage door opener was put in by another company. That company's technician indicated that it was a problem with the garage door mechanism and that they could not do that work. We then called Angie's List and got KG Door's number. I called KG Doors and they said they could have someone out the same day by 2:00. The technician called and was able to come early and was at my home by 12:30. Their service technician was very professional. I would recommend them to others.

Very well. From my first conversation where they estimated what was wrong and how much it would be to fix it, to them showing up the next day 10 minutes earlier than our appointment, to the fix on the job (where he explained everything he was doing, and how I could do it myself if the same issue occurred with my other opener), to his lubricating both doors and programing a new controller for me, everything was aces. Total time on the phone was about 3 minutes, total time on the job was about 20 minutes. They were great.

I hired KG Doors to diagnose an issue with the garage door transmitter, and they replaced it. They were good. I would use them in the future.

I called at 3:15 pm and talked to Josh. He said he could be there in a hour, which totally exceeded my expectation. He arrived around 4pm, and called me from the alley behind my house. I met him in the garage where he looked at the garage door opener and quoted me a price of $150. He had the part with him, and finished the job in 15 minutes. He left the damaged part for me to examine. My experience with KG Doors was great, and I would use them in future for servicing my doors.

We needed a new gear in our garage door opener and the door was not closing completely. Josh showed up early, changed out the gear and stretched the spring so that the door would close properly. The entire job took less than 45 minutes and we were very happy with the results.

My appointment was at 1pm and I got a confirmation call from the technician. He then called a little before the appointment to say he would be about 30 minutes. He ended arriving at 2:15pm. I was a little disappointed but he was apologetic and explained he was caught longer at his last job. He immediately diagnosed our problem as a bad sprocket. He was able to repair immediately but I was shocked at the cost of $175 for a one part, 20 minute repair. Overall I thought he provided good service and was very friendly and knowledgeable.

Called with a question about installing a safety mechanism on garage door springs and possibly replacing an overhead door opener. Installer came out almost immediately and gave me recommendations. Decided to purchase a new opener and have safety cable placed on old springs (no pressure to purchase new door). Work completed by about noon the next day. Everything seems to work fine. Price seemed fair and job was completed before 2 other companies (with high marks on Angie's List) even returned my initial phone call.
