JPG CONSTRUCTION CO

JPG is currently doing work two doors down from my house. The laborers parked in front of my house and have been walking over my lawn to get to their truck. Very discourteous and unprofessional.

The work performed was quality, and the crew that was out there broke their backs in 100 degree heat. Hard workers who do good work.

Although the price was good and the installation was on time, problems developed within 6 months of installation. The surface of the driveway began breaking apart near the street and after the first winter was significantly broken up. This is essentially superficial, but the driveway looks very bad now and there is constant rubble that is loose and under foot. Also, the driveway developed a 15 foot crack 6 months after pouring. The crack runs parallel to the house and is probably the result of not installing a proper compression barrier. The driveway also was not poured to the contract-stated depth of 5 inches. JPG excavated and repoured the sections 1 year later, but these cracked again in the same place within another 6 months. The contractor was nearly impossible to get in touch with regarding repairs. Phone calls and letters were ignored on multiple occasions. The main response was that the concrete supplier at the time (Prairie) provided him with inferior concrete. Neither of the problems mentioned above were fixed.

I was not satisfied with the work performed by JPG construction. The following problems developed within 6 months of installation: 1) a 10-foot long crack formed across two adjacent plaques of the driveway, 2) the pitch of the driveway causes water to collect along the side of my home, and 3) extensive surface degradation (spalling) of the driveway started within months and continues to worsen as time goes by. The contractor did remove and replace the broken plaques, although these broke again within a few months! At the time that the plaques were removed, I measured the thickness of the concrete across the center of the driveway and also the depth of the gravel base and found BOTH to be less that specified in the contract (5 and 4 inches, respectively.) Another contractor verified that the driveway was not pitched toward the street properly and that JPG Construction neglected to pay attention to drainage and expansion issues, resulting in the aforementioned problems with pooling and cracking. Last winter, the freezing of water under the driveway caused the driveway to heave toward the house and cracked the limestone sill plate under an exterior door which abuts the driveway. The surface of the driveway was not properly prepared to prevent the spalling that occured. Aside from the failed attempt to fix the two broken plaques, the contractor has refused to respond to multiple phone calls and written requests for rectification.
