+ -1 more0 stars. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! After instructing the movers not to move certain boxes they went through the boxes and stole many items. When I called the company the owner, Jay laughed about the situation saying it was my fault. After reaching out many times asking for my items to be returned I am now taking legal action. This was an absolute nightmare of a situation. You are better off moving yourself and not hiring these thieves.
Description of Work: They were hired to move but stole. One of the worst experiences I’ve ever been through. Do not hire!

+ -1 moreIt went well. They were efficient. We had a couple of glitches but overall it was good service. They were a little late to the second move date, all moving company workers complain about how much there is to move so that was not a surprise. They earned every penny! A couple of tv stand/component system glasses were broken. I think we tipped them well also. They also took a lunch break with the load on the truck. I thought that was unusual.
Description of Work: Jay Movers moved TWO separate family members for us.

+ -1 moreThese guys were great. Worked with BK Louis to arrange 2 moves. Jose headed up a 4 man crew for a grueling 3rd floor walkup to 3rd floor walkup and they did an awesome job! Terry and Daniel literally moved a ton of slate sheets on a different move and did and excellent job. The pricing of both jobs was super reasonable. Will totally use them again!

+ -1 moreIt was a fail. Worst move I've had since I first moved out of my parents place (and that's a lot of moves). We used this company before it went great, which is why we used them again. This time, half the team was slow, there were numerous smoke breaks (while in the truck with our furniture), the refused to bring my desk up to the office because they didn't believe it would fit (we got it in the next morning), they left multiple rooms wrapped in plastic wrap, they put all of the furniture in the guest room but didn't set up the bed (the next day we had to take it all out, unwrap it and put it together). I get moving is hard, that's why we hired someone else to do it, but when we have to clean up/unwrap/put together what we paid someone else to do it's not only disappointing, it's frustrating. Oh, almost forgot they also took 2 chunks out of the walls at our old place and didn't even say anything about it. We found it later when we went back to clean.

The team showed up a little late due to getting stuck in traffic from their earlier job, so ours ended up taking from 3:30 until 10:30! They never slowed down, never seemed tired or crabby! They were amazing! They wrapped everything nicely and even helped get a tricky bed piece through an upstairs window! All while smiling and being very pleasant! Will always use Jay Movers for moves, though hopefully no time soon ;-)

+ -1 moreI found that the attention to detail used by the movers themselves to be very poor, as much of my wood furniture ended up with scratches, dents and dings. The response by the company itself was also extremely poor, as they failed to ever return my calls to follow up. The owner himself offered to come and look at the damages, as I once caught him on the phone when calling in the early morning - only to never call me back to set up a time or follow up. When I finally did receive a follow up call from someone - (after sending a strongly worded email) he said there was nothing they would do, as it was covered under the loss and damages waiver that I signed before moving. I think for a moving company to show such small regard for their clients' belongings is really sad, as it is the core of what they do. The main piece that they damaged was not monetarily expensive and could have been replaced - what would have made me happy was to see the smallest amount of concern and apology from anyone in the company. I would suggest that no one ever use this company, as I have read many great reviews for others in the Chicagoland area.
Description of Work: They were asked to move my one bedroom apartment and a friend's studio across town. (approximately 2 miles)

+ -1 moreDO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! We had the worst moving experience ever with this company. They broke some very valuable items that were just purchased and never once said "sorry". They were extremely unreliable and showed up 5 1/2 hrs late. It appears that they "low ball" the estimate just to get the business and have a habit of blaming the customer for everything that goes wrong with the move. I am baffled how anyone could have a good experience with this company after what we went through.
Description of Work: This was a move from a 3bed/2bath condo (3rd floor) in the city to a house in the suburbs. .

+ -1 moreEach move wasn't excessively expensive. The crew was ready to go 20 minutes before the agreed time on the first day. And right on time on the second day. The crew worked hard the entire time, and did not break or impede the quality of anyitem moved.

+ -1 moreAs other posters have mentioned, our experience was also seamless and easy. The movers cared about the job and they made sure that we were satisfied with the way they were working. Highly recommend. A+ professionals.
Description of Work: Jay's Moving Company moved us from our 2 bed room apartment in Wheaton to a single family house near Fox Valley Mall. They provided us with an estimate over the phone and later showed a lot of flexibility in accommodating the changes in moving date. During the process they were thoroughly professional. The movers did an excellent job. They were punctual, professional, efficient, and nice. We were helped by a team of 3 individuals, led by Calo Andres Juan. I highly recommend them and would use them again.

+ -1 moreOverall. This was the worst and most upsetting move experience of my entire life. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY.
Description of Work: Do NOT hire this company. I have hired movers 4 times in the past 5 years and this move was, by far, the worst ever. I moved across country from New York to Chicago (with one stop at my home and one at a storage unit in New York) for less than what this company charged me to move less than 7.5 miles in Chicago proper. I think the other reviews must have been made by this company itself because my experience was nothing like the descriptions of the other reviewers. I was so upset over the experience that I had to wait these three weeks before I felt calm enough to give my own review. 1) the movers called and said they wanted to come early. You might ask why that was a problem. Well anyone who knows the Chicago market knows that high rises have loading docks and loading docks must be scheduled prior to the move and you must keep to the time slot allotted for you. When I told the movers they could not come earlier the only one that spoke english said "well why not", in a kind of way that just irked me. 2) the company was supposed to provide regular boxes and wardrobe boxes for the move. Now, how do you pack prior if the company will not give you boxes until the day of the move??? ka-ching $$$ more money. Luckily I had some boxes to pack most of my things. when the movers arrived, I asked for the boxes and they stalled until the end. ka-ching $$$ more money. 3) the mover who's responsibility it was to do all the work inside the apartment didn't know the first thing about packing. I found a box with an iron grill together with glass objects. I had one large piece of artwork that I was also moving. They were just getting ready to put it onto the truck without any padding, covering or wrapping, nothing. I had to run after them because they had forgotten things. I asked them to wait and they left about a quarter of my kitchen things behind. The owner of the company said he would come and pick up the things, well that never happened. I had to take a cab the next day and lug all of those things on my own. 4) after the movers were in such a rush to leave, I was still at my apartment for at least another 1/2 hour - 45 minutes. Once I arrived at the new location (after the owner told me they couldn't come back for my things because they were already at the new place) I waited and waited for them. They were no place to be found. I waited another 1 - 1 1/2 hours for them to finally arrive. ( I was way over my time allotment for the loading dock in the new building). 5) the movers just dumped boxes with no rhyme or reason. It took me many days to finally sort things out. 6) the movers wanted me to give them $80 in cash on top of paying for the move. ka-ching $$$ more money. 7) the movers wanted me to pay them over $700 for a one bedroom, local move, where I had done the majority of the packing. This was over three times my estimate. 8) the movers tried to intimidate me. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT hire this company.

+ -1 moreWonderful! The experience was seamless and easy. I will definitely call Jay Movers again. From the very start they were accommodating. The person with whom I spoke on the phone was sincere about being glad to take a small moving job. The movers came right on schedule. They were very careful with my furniture, not a problem. They were also very patient. If I wanted something moved "just a little more to the left", "no, let's put it back where it was", "maybe over there", Eduardo and Ricardo did it with grace and enthusiasm. Each time we moved something, Eduardo and Ricardo wanted to be sure it was what I wanted. I kept finding dust and such when a piece of furniture was moved and vacuumed. As they saw me holding my baby and vacuuming, they offered to help. When they moved the rug, they vacuumed the back of the rug before putting it down (I did not ask them to do this)! I was grateful for the attention to detail and customer service. Both Eduardo and Ricardo cared about the job and wanted me to be satisfied with their work. I am! I am happy I found Jay Movers on Angie's List. Thank you to those who posted reports. My experience was good like yours.
Description of Work: I had a very small move and it only involved labor. The movers came to my house and did an in-house "move". They moved furniture between kids' bedrooms: moved bunkbed across room, moved twin bed from one bedroom into next door bedroom with as bunk bed, moved desk and hutch out of bedroom and into playroom, moved a rug from one bedroom to another, moved crib to a different location in the same room. They unassembled and re-assembled the twin bed to get it into the next door bedroom.

+ -1 moreThey were the 2nd lowest bid and were able to work the same day I called, so I hired them. The first time out they ended up at the wrong address, and since I wasn't there we weren't able to get the situation straightened out before the owner of the furniture had to leave. Jay was (understandably) upset that his men had wasted 5 hours, but we rescheduled for the next morning and everything went smoothly. The moving crew itself was fantastic and handled everything with care.
Description of Work: I hired Jay Movers to move some secondhand furniture I bought from Round Lake to Chicago.

+ -1 moreThe team from Jay movers did a great job. They arrived early, were very courteous, and got down to business immediately. The guys were very quick, but always careful. It seemed that they made a real effort to complete the move in the time quoted on the estimate. One aspect really impressed me - they pulled out the big tube of cellophane packing wrap (always a gotcha line item for an extra $25-$50 added on most moves) - when we told them we had a roll of our own, they took ours and used it with no hassle. It seems like a little thing, but I've had issues with this before. Overall, a very able crew that got the job on time, and on quote.
Description of Work: I needed to move 2 rooms of boxes out of my house and into storage, a few blocks away. It was not a complicated move (only 1 piece of furniture, the rest boxed items of all sizes), so I was looking for a low rate but not low quality.

There were lot of antiques and they took extra care with them. They were quick and thorough. They did a great job. They were conscientious and I would recommend them.

+ -1 moreI paid $650 but I took longer than what they had quoted. They helped me to haul my stuff and they also helped in packing. However, they didn’t unpack anything. The guys who had come out were great and friendly. They were very fast too. Their estimate was the lowest compared to the other companies. They had good reviews online too. So they were good. They went out of their way to make sure that my kitchen items like the dishes were safe since I had told them that it was my most priced possession. They let me know that they would take care of it. They were just on top of things all the way through when it came to their responsiveness. They were perfectly on time and in fact, were early by 10 minutes. They were absolutely professional and it was fun working with them. I was very pleased with them and I would definitely use their services in the future too.
