J Sitko Construction

The lead man for Sitko was polite and knowledgeable. He answered our questions. The owner visited us to answer specific concerns. After we hired Sitko, the workmen were courteous and professional. They cleaned up at the end of each day. They followed the architech's plans to the letter. The construction is extremely solid. They did not use flimsy connectors; all connectors are heavy duty. No nails were used; weatherproof screws driven in by high powered screw guns. When we had a concern about the transition between that part of the new porch that connects with the deck over our five car garage, Mr. Sitko himself returned and spent several hours fixing the problem to our satisfaction.

We did not use their services since no one followed up with a quote.

It went well, estimated time to complete was 3 weeks, with weather and permitting it was more like 5, but the crews worked fast, were there every day and the end product is great. In the end we also ended up not having to do the entire scope of work so the estimate was revised downward.

Job went pretty quick. Received a lot of compliments on the work although I did start to notice some minor flaws as time went on. I no longer own the property, but I do know the deck was a major selling point to the buyers.

When I had received the initial estimate from them, because we live in a home owners association, 12 unit condo complex, there were some questions by some of the members. I confirmed with both them and another company to have them provide additional itemized numbers, so to speak. Based on questions that were ask, the other company provided that. J Sitko provided answer to one thing but not to another. That was kind of the impetus for going with the other company. I was much more pleased with their responsiveness on questions that some of the other homeowners had about the project.

It went very well. Jack (the owner) was flexible to design changes/evolution, and added a couple extra services for no extra charge. The final result is beautiful.

From the beginning, communication was excellent. Jack and Michael were responsive in the proposal process and during construction. We knew what to expect and when, and all of our questions were addressed promptly. Since we are a small association, and our officers all work full time, it was so helpful to have Jack and his architects handle the permitting and inspection process, which was seamless for us. (We passed!) I highly recommend working with J. Sitko and would hire them again at our building.

We used J Sitko for a complete rebuild of a 3 story back porch for one of our buildings. The whole experience was great and J Sitko made the beginning to end process entirely seamless - from the city permitting process to the final city inspection. The front office (Mike Fredman) was extremely responsive, had fantastic follow up and was very quick to answer all questions...and we had a lot. The quality of work is outstanding. I had a couple contractors and neighbors make comments about how impressed they were with the workmanship. I am so happy (as are our tenants) with the new porch. The only slight con was the price. We found a couple other companies who were a little cheaper, but the professionalism and good reviews of J Sitko made us choose them and it was well worth it.

They were easy to work with. I had asked 6 or 7 people for estimates and they were the easiest to work with. They were very accommodating with what I wanted. They were here bright and early every morning. They worked and they didn't fool around. The workers worked and cleaned up everything after they were done. They didn't leave anything lying around. They were good to work with and if I had any problems, they would take care of it.

It turned out very well. We had a particularly difficult job because it was two awkwardly configured landmark buildings. The one somewhat frustrating aspect is that they don't all speak English and when we would run into issues it would shut the job down until someone who was able to make a decision or contact the architect could be available. That's my only negative commentary. They were very polite and clean. They showed up when they were supposed to show up; all of those things were great. It probably took 8 weeks to complete. Our 2 buildings are 3 stories tall plus a garden. What we found is that the prices were extremes; they were either much higher or much lower and much lower seemed impossible. I would use them again but with the requisite that I could have more easy access to the person who could negotiate with the workers. They were chosen with the recommendation from Angie's List and interviews. Not just with me but also with the condo association since everyone would be hit with the $15000 assessment.

It took about 3 weeks to complete the project. I liked those guys. They are a fair price. I thought they did a thorough job. They added detail where they did not have to. They explained the work. They seemed very methodical when they went through things.

They did a good job. The price was competitive. I would completely use them again if I still lived in Chicago.

I believe they were going to do a good job and the price was definitely right. In tuck pointing and all I found a wide range of abilities and product; they did a good job. The price was certainly right. We had to call them back to finish the cleaning. We had to call them back to finish the cleaning so when it was completely done it was fine but we had to call them back.

Took 4 people less than a week to complete project. Clean up not so good. I kept finding nails everywhere.

I think we were totally happy. I don?t even live there anymore. It was a big project. We used them twice, so I must have really liked them. They were very competitive. We got them out of Angie?s List come to think of it, that is how we choose them and we were fine with them. We were all very happy, no complaints. I was the treasurer when we lived there. They made sure it was planned passed inspection, the city of Chicago inspection, because we were having trouble with inspectors. They did a real good job of taking care of the whole thing. Passed inspection and everything.

Adopting Sitko's standard plans as an own was a difficult choice because our preferred & expected plan "could not be built", no explanation pranced. But once we committed to it & after waiting a while for a construction time-slot, the work went speedily. We were concerned that out existing lighting, phone & cable would be disrupted, but they were not. A crew of 2-4. Men showed up everyday, M-F at 17:00 TO 8:00 AM consistently and worked a full day until 5 most days despite run ke & 2 little snow too. It was amazing to see the demolition of the old porch happen with 4 hours! We are thankful for the crew's punctuality and hardwork. They worked together very well, and magically (well skillfully), made the new porch appear, day by day, until it was done. The completed porch looks good, it is very sturdy.

Jack Sitko's company exceeded our expectations in every regard. He was one of five service providers that we received quotes from and he was by far and away the most creative, professional and detail oriented of all of them. His challenge was to create the largest deck space for the building and he and his architect designed a layout which moved the stairway to the far end of the structure there by giving us the largest deck space possible. ALL of the other contractors lacked the vision to design the large deck that we wanted. Jack made a couple of trips to review the design with us and answer any additional questions that we had before signing the contract. Mike Fredman, his assistant handled all communication throughout the process and it was excellent. The work crew arrived every morning at 7:30 a.m. and worked to 5:30 p.m.. until the project was completed. Everything in the contract was completed on time and to specifications in the plans. We are delighted with their work and enthusiastically recommend them to anyone considering building a new deck.

The good, he was prompt, he was on time. The bad, not enough detail and price.

I called and set up an appointment for a quote. A gentleman came 1/2 hour prior to the stated time, and I did happen to be home (but normally would not have been home from work yet). He didn't have a tape measure, or even a pencil and paper. We spoke about what I needed and he told me I'd be called with a quote within two days. It's been over two weeks and still nothing.

Jack from Sitko construction arrived early for the estimate, looked around the area, didn't take any notes and did some cursory measurements. He promised a written estimate "either tonight or by tomorrow". We had not received any communication after a week so I contacted Mike Fredman (who had confirmed the appointment for the estimate) via email one week later asking for the written estimate. There has been no response. It doesn't take that much effort to respond to a potential customer - either provide the estimate or let the customer know you're unable to provide the service.

We are very pleased with all aspects of working with J. Sitko. The stairs look so great and are finally up to code.

Very strange experience - I called the contact listed on Angie's List for this company and spoke to someone named Mike Fredman. He explained he worked with this company as well as others. I gave him a brief explanation of my projects, sent my drawings to him via email. I received a call back about an hour later from Mr Fredman. He said that the company I was trying to reach did not do the kind of work I needed done and gave me a contact at this other company. Red flags began to fly and asked why he was listed as a contact, why couldn't I speak to someone at J Sitko, am I paying him for the service of finding another company...his answer was the same to each question, I am a partner with these companies. I decided to back away from this.

it went extremely well, thanks to Jack and Mike and their entire hard-working crew. After our Condo Association got over the initial shock of needing to tear down a perfectly good 10-year old backporch because of the updated City of Chicago codes, we were fortunate to find J Sitko Construction As I understand, the firm has worked with many local Condo Associations and homeowners that find their buildings out of compliance with city codes. They provided us a fair cost estimate, had the old porch torn down, and had one of their designers create a new design that would pass the City's review. Once our Association had approved the new porch design, J Sitko Construction got to work building our new porch and assured us that it would be okay with the City's rigid future inspections. Our porch fits into a tight space surrounded by an existing brick garage and parking spaces, so we did not have any room for error or miscalculations. Their team provided us regular communications so that we were always well informed, and their workers were highly professional. Because the firm has regularly worked with City of Chicago inspectors, they assured us that the design and final product -- the porch -- would meet the City's approval. J Sitko Construction was absolutely right! The City of Chicago approved the design without question. The final inspection by the City inspector of the finished porch literally took 3 minutes time. Even the City inspector commented that J Sitko did an extraordinarily good job designing and building the porch. We had considered building a metal porch built, but decided to go with another wood (pine) porch and using a comparable "footprint' to our old porch Now, one year after it was built, we recently had the porch sealed and it is looking great. Thank you, J. Sitko! Very happy that we chose your team of professionals, and highly recommend that other consumers do the same!
