Irpino Construction

We had a lot of work to be done, spanning new drywall, painting, removing old wood floors and replacing, new shower and carpet cleaning. The crew was very professional and got things done on time. I have already recommended them to another friend that also had some water damage.

I would thoroughly recommend Irpino Construction for any type of interior repair and renovation project. They recently helped us repair some significant water damage to our unit and were outstanding. From the onset Dominic Irpino was personally involved in: - assessing the damage, - discovering issues that we had not seen, - supervising the work consistently, - helping work through the estimate and thus created an excellent first impression that led to us selecting Irpino Construction. His team did him proud by: - turning up punctually each day, - doing a great job at containing the dust that gets created during such projects, - cleaning up each night before leaving, - critically being complete perfectionists about the work they performed. The repairs they performed left our house looking like new and more importantly they way in which they worked really makes them stand out. We were nervous when selecting a contractor given all the stories that you hear about issues, however Dominic and his team could not be further from that stigma. I would whole hardheartedly recommend them for any project and we?ll use them again should the need arise as we will not trust anyone else with our home now.

I was so impressed with Irpino Construction. Dominic was amazing from the get go in terms of his recommendations for work on our condo and his professionalism in getting us a bid and starting work as soon as possible. His team were always so kind and they worked efficiently and quickly. They were able to complete multiple projects on our condo in a short amount of time and everything was completed to the highest standard. When we ran into other issues in our condo related to electricity and our furnace, Domininc quickly stepped in and helped us get contacts to fix the problems. This was completely outside the scope of his work, but he gladly helped us out because that is just the type of person he is. I look forward to working with Irpino Construction again on future projects in our condo! I'm so happy we decided to go with Irpino Construction and I absolutely recommend them.

Dominick made it happen before we moved in. His men worked long hours and weekends to make sure we could move in on time. Excellent work. Great price. Highly recommended.

Had Irpino construction do a complete gut and remodel of a master bathroom in a downtown townhouse built in 1998. Quote also included some miscellaneous projects (inserting new ceiling lighting, some electrical work, etc) This review is about a year after, so the details are not fresh in my mind, but I'll do my best. I got quotes from 3 contractors, and Irpino's was the most expensive, but I went with him because his communication, organization, and professionalism was far and away the best of the three contractors I interviewed. The project began in late October and extended into January. It was originally slated as a one month project but that clearly went far beyond that - part of that was due to issues on both sides (I'll take a significant amount of the blame as choosing, designing, ordering supplies, and waiting for them to arrive turned out to be a bigger project than I had originally thought Dominic had referred me to a number of vendors - some were great, some were pretty good. The final result, aesthetically was awesome - the bathroom looks great. There were some snafus along the way, none major, most resolved - some not. The pluses: -like I said earlier, the communication from day one was always solid - Dominic was always friendly, responsive, and to the point. When problems and concerns arose, they were addressed in a timely fashion. -Dominic made some great suggestions regarding installation and basic design to help guide us through a lot of the process in regards to picking and choosing tile, fixtures, grout, paint colors and type, countertops and essentially helped us a bit in turning the picture of our dream bathroom in our minds into reality. He's definitely not an interior designer, but for a contractor, can give some great suggestions if you're not using a designer. -his build team was consistent - had a lead foreman, two or three laborers that were consistent through the project - only additions were a subcontracted plumber and a subcontractor to fabricate and install the shower door. The minuses: -again, cost was a bit more than other quotes, and the final invoice did come out significantly higher than initial estimate - again, some of this was due to the addition of smaller projects I added along the way throughout the house, some were due to unforeseen finds during the construction process. -a few construction problems / functionality problems - again, not sure whether they could've been avoided but worth mentioning. -sinks drain very slooooooow - still tough to get used to - not sure if it's a plumbing issue or a design issue, but had this been seen ahead of time, we may have approached it differently. -used 3x6" glass subway tile in the shower - through the winter, a number of these cracked - in the spring, Irpino did come out and replace all of these, but still haven't been able to pinpoint the problem (temperature? vibration? installation?) have had one crack this winter so far as well. -had a leak in the shower basin a few weeks after install - explained that it was due to existing piping and Irpino did fix the next day. -during demo, they did throw away some hardware (minor) that we were planning on reusing. Summary: End result - B+/A- communication was always solid, and that goes a long way in my book. Some issues with construction - still not sure whether or not they could have been avoided, but it is possible. Price point a bit on the high side. Update 10/14 - I have updated the overall grade to an A (from a B) - although we have had some design issues, Dominic has been great in addressing them and fixing them in a timely basis. He has also addressed some other things not related to the project and has been very accomoodating. Again, I stress quality issues may or may not have been avoidable, but Dominic has been nothing less than friendly and resposnive in addressing them. After having worked with a number of contractors and design-build firms, I've learned to value communication and responsiveness as much, if not more than, quality of work and Dominic and irpino are the best I've worked with in that regard.

He was very very gracious in providing me information. I had alot of questions regarding tiling my basement floor versus painting it. I didn't end up using their services but they had great customer service. I was able to email back and forth with him several times.

The project involved total renovation of an existing bathroom in a 2 bedroom condo. Apt on the north side of Chicago. Dominick was available and assisted at every step of construction instead of handing the work all off to subordinates. The company recommended suppliers and passed the discount on to us. In one case, that discount saved a substantial amount of money. Dominick also consulted with us on paint color and tile configuration, which was helpful. My wife and I would probably otherwise have painted the walls white - we are not creative people. The bathroom now looks like someone who cares designed it, which is good. As Dominick pointed out, the bathroom now has "good Zen." The plumber and construction manager were friendly and professional. Robert assisted with two projects in addition to the bathroom, one of which, a collapsing shelf in a closet, we would not have noticed without him telling us. Irpino completed the project quickly, other than time spent waiting for the board's approval. Although the work was completed months ago, we were a little slow on the review. Given the chance to do the project again, I would have paid better attention to the tile. What I picked out doesn't clean easily, but that choice was my fault. I made punctuality a B only because there was initially a delay of a week approx before I got a return phone call.

I could not be happier with Dominic and his employees. Dominic and Venecio (sp?) showed up for an initial walkthrough and estimate. During the estimate, Dominic and V both proposed multiple options on the 2 projects we wanted done. Dominic also pointed out a few optional upgrades that may enhance the resale value of our property. He didn't push on them to be done, but rather provided some great input and put them on the estimate for us to decide on. Once we decided on what we wanted done Dominc was more than happy to fit our schedule. Dominic and his team were prompt and courteous and even took some time out to play with our dog who was absolutely in love with them. I can not say enough great things about our experiences with Dominic and his team!

I read all the A reviews on Dominic and was concerned that there were no negatives at all. My bathroom is done -- and now I know why they have such superlative reviews. They are amazing! Design: I hated my 19' x 6' master bath. Using the walk-in shower was becoming increasingly unsafe because the door stuck and there was a big curb. There was a big jacuzzi we never used and there were what looked like a lot of cabinets, but no storage space. The kicker -- I had a totally unrealistic budget for what I wanted. Dominic prepared a proposal that would give me a basic bathroom that would have met my budget. Then there was the list of all the goodies I wanted and a price for each one. So, I blew my budget and got it all -- I could have had a nice bathroom in my budget, but I got a spectacular one instead. The people: There was Dominic, the owner and sales person, Jaime, the crew chief, and a bunch of workers who all had different specialty areas. Every morning, the person who did what was needed next showed up. Jaimie was there at least once a day checking up. And Dominic called every day and stopped by a lot to answer any questions and check on the work. No matter what we asked, Dominic's answer was "Not a problem. We'll take care of it." Including when the shut off valve fell apart when they tried to turn off the water. Or picking the wrong color paint. Or making sure everything that nothing was out of easy reach. Or dealing with an upset 2 1/2 year old net door who was scared by the noise. Dominic even fixed things that were my mistakes. And everything was done with an eye on keeping it safe for seniors who were not quite as spry as they used to be with the safety features integrated into the design.

Dominic Irpino came highly recommended to us. We had him help us figure out some possibilities for a 2-flat we purchased in Lakeview. While we haven't started any projects yet, we were very impressed with his professionalism, and that fact he took the time to give us some advice and recommended trades people contacts before we are even ready to higher a contractor. When we are ready for a contractor, Irpino Construction will definitely be one of the businesses we contact.

Work hasn't started yet, but Dominic and Irpino have been wonderful so far during our start-up phase. Dominic was the first of our potential contractors to arrive and was very professional. He offered us suggestions and went over many of the details with us. We never felt rushed or pressured to spend more than we need to. After getting a good idea of what we wanted, Dominic sent the quote the same day. It was detailed and let us see line by line what Irpino would complete if they took the job. His prices are in line with other offers we heard, but his professionalism set them apart. We can't wait for construction to begin on our bathroom! Update to follow - We lost contact for a couple days (3) while we were trying to set a start date for our remodel. The company had a big project and no one was able to get back to us during that time so we went with another contractor. I'm sure the work that they would've done was going to be great, but we couldn't wait. Also - we wanted to use the Angie's list coupon, but it was already supposedly factored into our quote. There was no line item for a discount though.

Irpino Construction is a wonderful company to work with on a project. This was actually the second project the company did for me. The first project was a partial update of a guest bathroom and this project was a full remodel job of my master bathroom. The project included replacing everything in the bathroom along with moving the location of the tub and vanity/sink and increasing the size of the shower. The bathroom looks beautiful. Dominic, the owner of Irpino Construction, was very responsive to my questions and concerns throughout the project. I met with him and the project manager weekly to get an update on the project which was very helpful. The individuals doing the construction were very conscientious and hard working. I felt that quality work went into the project. I will admit that the project took longer than expected but there was no delay in the work effort. I can't really explain why it look longer. However, from past experience, all my home projects completed by contractors have always taken longer than the estimated timeline. Overall, I would highly recommend Irpino Construction to others. I have used them twice and will use them for any future projects. I have used other contractors in the past but they were never as responsive to my calls and requests as Irpino Construction. In addition, the work provided by Irpino Construction is high quality.

Dominic Irpino, the owner was involved from start to finish with the project. He met me at the suppliers locations and made sure I got the right products and the right prices. Irpino was one of five places I called to get estimates for work we needed done for a rental unit. Dominic responded to my voicemail and set up an appointment to look at the property. He was prompt for our meeting, and he took lots of notes as we walked through the items I needed done. During this walkthrough, Dominic asked many pertinent questions and added his opinion on what could be done, including a few items that he thought we shouldn't bother with. An example of this: we had thought of installing an exhaust fan in the bathroom, but Dominic thought the cost would be more than what we'd get in return in selling the property. Dominic's experience in real estate came in handy, as he was able to see what our goals were and how that would fit in with the estimate. We received the estimate the very next day, the fastest of the three quotes we got. Throughout the process, Dominic was very professional, courteous and honest. Though we chose another contractor, I would highly recommend Irpino to anyone looking for a general contractor to do work for them.

The upstairs bathroom was a tiny square with a sloping roof that made it look smaller. There was no window and it was old and outdated. We originally were planning on making a dormer in the old bathroom but someone suggested just moving the bathroom to a bigger useless space next to it. That way we weren't messing with the structure or roof and didn't have to call in an architect. Irpino was the best price that we got so we decided to try them out. Andrew, the project manager was very professional and just really wonderful. I handed him a low resolution handout and said, "I want it to look like this" (both the layout and shower). I purchased everything and gave it to him and it is perfect. Unlike other contractors, they would contact us on small decisions like, "Do you want the floor tiles to be angled?" Yes... yes we do. And we never thought to mention it. Thank you for asking! I'm really super happy with the bathroom. This was set in concrete when we were at a hotel once and my bf asked, "Why don't you take a shower before we go?" and I said, "I like our bathroom more. I'll take a shower when we get home."

As a newcomer to Angie’s List I searched for a contractor to help me with remodeling a bathroom. Hiring Irpino Construction was the very best decision I made for this project. From the first consultation to the completion of the work, it was an outstanding, A+ experience. Dominic and those who work for him are first rate professionals in their areas of expertise. I can’t say enough about their work ethic and competence. Jaime, the project manager, and the men who came each day were 100% committed to excellence and my satisfaction with their work. Throughout the project Dominic was available, responsive, resourceful, went the extra mile to help, and a delight to work with. I also had the assistance of a decorator for this remodeling. She told me she has never seen workers leave a work site so clean at the end of each day. And although she and I had narrowed our design choices, we needed and were grateful for the excellent ideas offered by both Dominic and Jaime. They made the final outcome so much better. A final word about Dominic and his company. I am not new to remodeling, and know I selected a jewel when I found them on Angie’s List. I’m looking forward to working with Irpino Construction again and recommend them without qualification.

He took the job between other jobs so the schedule was when he could get to it. His work was excellent, but when he had time to do the work.

The process went very well. This was our first time hiring a contractor and Dominic was very helpful throughout. Dominic referred us to suppliers for materials who were all excellent. Dominic met with us frequently during the remodel to discuss the progress and to make sure all questions were answered. The work was performed in our condo and Dominic went above and beyond by helping to deal with a difficult situation with neighbors upset with the amount of noise (which was commensurate with the work being performed). Dominic stepped in and worked out a compromise to get everyone through the process. Also, in one bathroom a faulty shower valve was installed causing a leak to the downstairs neighbors unit. Dominic worked directly with them to make the necessary repairs and obtained a replacement unit from the manufacturer to fix the problem. Remodeling is inherently stressful but Dominic went out of his way to make sure the work went as smoothly as possible. We are extremely happy with the finished product, which is clearly high quality. It is clear that Dominic's entire team is committed to ensuring that high quality work is performed and that all questions and issues are dealt with timely. Dominic was very responsive throughout.

Dominic was so patient and helpful to us, first time condo owners, he spent an hour just going over all the things we want to do and answered all our questions. the whole time he's so sweet and pleasant so you don't feel bad asking at all. then he gave us a very detailed quote the same day. we waited for almost a week to call him back and changed quite a few things he was still happy to help us out in any way he could. we used him to remove out pop corn ceiling and now our ceiling looks so nice! we tried to paint ourselves but ended up removing some of the paint off the the ceiling, he came back to help us fix everything at a reasonable price. we recommended him to all our friends and def strongly recommend him on yelp! thank you so much!

We were in the process of rehabbing our entire house when a contractor bailed on us weeks before our drywall needed to get done. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Irpino was an absolute pleasure to work with and probably saved us several more headaches in the long run. Luckily they were available on short notice and were incredibly accommodating to our tight schedule. They hung, mudded, primed and sanded drywall for our entire second first in about two weeks. Their estimate was competitive with or less than other companies I spoke with. Dominic is consistently professional, warm, honest and very easy to work with. They were always punctual, within budget and did an overall excellent job. Highly recommended.

Five Stars! A Smashing Success! If I had known this remodeling job could be so worry-free and produce such a beautiful result, I would have done it sooner! I interviewed three contractors that I selected from Angie's List, including Dominic Irpino, who was the preferred candidate out of the gate. Dominic had the job as soon as he told me about the underlayment he would install beneath the porcelain tile floor. In addition to providing sound-proofing and a good base for mortar, it conducts heat, thus warming up the tile. The other two candidates said they planned on using cork underlayment. I am no expert, but red flags were flapping in my mind. The flooring was the lion's share of the job. If the floor was not right, nothing else would be right. It was the first sign that Dominic truly wanted to do THE BEST job. The size of tile he recommended was perfect for the size and sight lines of my apartment, and I never would have come up with that on my own. He even uses a different paint than most contractors. And the paint job is excellent. I felt that he understood my vision for my home and that it would not be just another project to cross off the list. His proposal, which arrived via e-mail a day or two after we met, was startling in its graphic beauty, and his bid was very reasonable. Construction work was intense and his incredibly skilled, invariably polite workers nearly always showed up as promised, and they worked VERY hard, often in hot, hot weather. The bare concrete floor in my apartment was grossly uneven and required lots and lots of mortar--and time. It had to be tiled sections so that the thick mortar could dry and enable the tiling team to have somewhere to kneel. They had to accomplish this in a relatively small space with me living in the apartment. My furniture and my old refrigerator (my source of sustenance) had to be moved around periodically. They did this cheerfully and efficiently. The dirt and disruption was stressful, but Dominic was a positive, patient, supportive--and fun--presence who seemed to keep everything (mainly me) on an even keel. He was responsive to every concern, issue or question I had, and he was with me until I was absolutely satisfied. Cold fact! He has scoped out knowledgeable, helpful sales associates at diverse suppliers, so assembling products and materials was easy. When my plan for a kitchen backsplash fell through at the last minute, he carved out some time to go shopping with me and even negotiated a discount on the material. He even made runs for supplies himself a few times. I picked out most of my materials on my own but Dominic often was vetting my choices behind the scenes. So you will get design guidance to whatever extent you want or need. Truly full service. My floor is astonishingly beautiful--and level. My whole home looks fabulous.

The workers moved appliances. Covered doorways with plastic sheeting. Removed old kitchen tiles and all underlayment. Installed new underlayment and vinyl tiles. Cleaned and removed debris. Dominic is easy to work with and fixes any imperfections. When work was done he came and inspected the job to make sure we were happy. We picked him because he did a great job on our tenants apartment, we had him do ours.

The entire process went extremely well. Dominic Irpino met with us to give us an estimate. We then discussed the quote and set a date to begin construction. Irpino Group Construction workers were punctual everyday and made sure areas were as tidy as possible when they left each day. When the work was done, the crew cleaned up very well, leaving less dust, etc. than I had expected for the work completed. Dominic also checked in with us after the project to make sure everything was satisfactory.

Dominic came out to give us an estimate on our kitchen remodel. He was extremely helpful in giving us resources and helpful tips, whether we decided to go with Irpino or not. He gave us an estimate within 24 hours and was very professional and helpful. We decided to go with another contractor who was slightly cheaper, but would definitely consider Irpino in the future and we appreciate Dominic's time and insight.

PAINT (high rise)- Dominics bid for painting an entire unit was very reasonable and the outcome was unbeleivable. Without telling me, he went the extra mile and perfected any drywall imperfection that he and his team saw put a coat of primer and two coats of paint on. If you have ever painted or worked with drywall, the fact that his crew went through and either sanded, patched and sanded, or filled in any minor imperfection prior to painting is unbeleivable. This is going the extra mile that was definitely appreciated and the reason why I called him to bid the next job. He said he really wanted to make sure the paint "popped" and did it ever. Most beautiful paint job I had seen. I thought the place looked nice before, but it looked like a brand new condo. I actually got $150 more per month in rent becuase of it. PORCHES (apartment prop): If you own apartment buildings in the city, you know this is a sticky situation. I called Dom becuase of my previously good experience with him. He put in his bid and after ending up deciding on him, again I was super pleased with the results. Once the job was in his hands, I hardly had to do anything. He is familiar and quick with dealing with the city permits, inspectors, and any little hurdle that can get in the way. I don't think many companies have this familiarity with that process AND produce the same results. My porches are not only beautiful, but they will last a lifetime thanks to the extra mile gone, once again by Irpino Construction, to choose the right type of wood for the environment. Not all woods wear the same and perform the same. Paying a little more will benefit you in the long run. Still cheaper than some other companies that use normal, low end materials. HOME IMPROVEMENT (high rise): I had this job bid out by another contractor and it seemed not only high, but also did not come with a lot of confidnece on the part of the other contractor. I originally didn't even want to ask Dominic to bid this as it was a small job and I knew he was busy with other projects. He did it for me as I was becoming a good customer. And so it goes- It is funny sometimes that I am impressed the most with the little jobs. This job seemed easy in nature, but when it came down to it, it was actually a difficult little job and Dominic nailed it. Integrating a flat screen into a existing kitchen space, making it look good, making sure the wiring is correct, and not incurring additional cost on having to tear out extra drywall, etc. is a skill that is not common. Again they nailed it and after this job, I decided it was official- I WAS NOT GOINT TO CALL ANY OTHER CONTRACTORS TO BID ANYTHING EVER AGAIN. I WOULD SAVE MY OWN TIME AND JUST CALL DOMINIC. I am not saying that everyone should only get one bid, this is a personal choice and something I am very comfortable with. What I am saying is that you should definitely have Irpino Constructionbid out youor next project. CONDO REHAB (courtyard): What can I really say? Everything turned out perfect...actually better than I expected. The recomendations that Dominic and his brother Jonathon had when I was at a crossroads were exellent when finished. Dominic was familiar with dealing with my condo association (who are reallly a pain sometimes- actually most of the time) which made my life easier and when a problem popped up, they took their own time to handle the issue if they were able to without me. Again- the extra mile through and through. Dominic does these projects like he owns them himself. I think this is typical of that type of business, but he really has an old school pride of workmanship that I haven't experienced with other contractors in the past. BOTTOM LINE: I have used this company a multitude of times on different projects. Each time they have exceded my expectations. Obviously I have experience with contractors, etc. and I feel like the contractor-contractee relationship has to be one where objectives are aligned and everyone is on the same page. Some people don't have good experiences with certain contractors and whether they know it or not, it is actually their own fault- "I'll take this counter, no remove it I like that one better, no the original one is better, put it back in"....not an easy job. Dominic always does his best to make me comfortble with what I am getting, the process involved, and the likely hurdles that may hold us up. That way if/when one does come up, I know what to expect. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Obviously I can't say enought about their work, but I have been nothing but impressed thus far. I recommned this company to anytone with small or large projects in home. They are definitely worth meeting and throwing in the mix if you have any doubts.
