I called several plumbers who promised to come out this afternoon. One in particular said he would be out at 3:30PM. He called me at 3:19PM saying he was going to arrive early and was on his way. With this news, I cancelled the other plumbers who promised to come service my home. At 4:17PM, the plumber calls me back and say he is not coming because he got tickets to the Black Hawks game. He said he would come in the morning and drop his fee $20. I explained I have no heat, can't cook or take a hot shower. He says they haven't yet turned on the heat at his house. I guess he believes I shouldn't want to turn on the heat at my house either. I also explained I cancelled all of the other plumbers because he said he was on his way. He shared that he is a good plumber and will take good care of me in the future. He let me know he does more than plumbing. He does roofing, concrete, etc. Not sure why this plumber think I would trust him with additional and bigger projects since he failed me on this routine job. I so did not want to hear him promoting himself when he had just left me stranded in the cold. He also stated he wanted more work in my neighborhood and wanted to have me as a long time customer. His prices were considerably lower than the other plumbers. As a result of him abandoning this job, I had to 1) spend an additional 1.5 hours calling around for another plumber and 2) I had to pay the after hours price. Infinity is one of the companies I called after hours. They agreed to come out this evening at 7PM. They actually made it to my house a little after 6PM. Two men came to fix the problem. I was handed an Infinity business card before they entered my home. They were professional and fixed the problem in less than an hour. They explained every thing they did in a manner I can understand. I feel relieved to have this problem fixed. Nicor is on the way to inspect the work. If all is well, they will restore my gas. I feel confident it will pass inspection. The cost of the repair was more than I was prepared to pay. I asked if there were any discounts I could take advantage of. I was kindly given a coupon for the "next" $400 repair.
Description of Work: Yesterday, Nicor shut the gas off for everyone in my complex. They then had to enter into every home and reset the pilot lights. They failed to reset the piolet light on my furnace. I called Nicor out this morning to correct the oversight on the furnace. The technician tells me I have gas leaks off the furnace and hot water heater valves, unions, etc. and they are shutting the gas off. They tell me if I can find a plumber within the next few hours to fix it, they will come back out to turn the gas on.
