Description of Work: Horan removed a large failing glass block window in our master bath and replaced it with a new three-paned casement window. The removal was a big issue since we were located on the fourth floor of our building and none of the other companies I contacted would even deal with it. Horan did the demo from the inside very quickly and kept the space incrediblely clean. The new window went in fast and the entire job was finished perfectly in very little time. The new window transformed the bathroom. It was beautiful.

I wanted to install the glass block windows myself, and they were fine with it all the way. I did pay for the measurements (maybe $30) to be taken by one of their guys, just in case. The windows were made within 3-4 business days, I picked them up, and followed their directions exactly. Now my basement has natural light and is much more insulated.

When my daughter needed glass block in her basement, I checked Angies list, and suggested Horan based on previous reports. They were prompt with an estimate, courteous and helpful with her questions, fair with their price, installed when promised, and cleaned up entirely. They even dealt with town license issues and pulled the permit for her. It was an overall professional experience. Kudos to Ken !

While I didn't hire them, they were very professional over the phone. They referred me to other glass block companies after discussing the issue. Being on the North Side, my home would add too much to the travel and raise the price, whereas someone more local would be a better fit. This after explaining in detail what I needed to look for and consider when finding the contractor. Very professional and courteous. I would hire them if my building was closer to their offices.

Excellent. Called them and got an estimate within a week. They discussed many options with us and we were impressed with their professionalism. Despite the fact that they were not the lowest bidder, we selected them because we thought we would get a better product and installed the right way. We were right. They showed up on time and were very fast, courteous and clean.

The guy who came to our house was decent and professional. However, the workers were a different story. We didn't want a lot of paint lying around. When they took out the old windows, they left a big mess. The communication wasn't good. He wasn't careful about disposing of the garbage. He used a trash can with an open bottom. The workers themselves weren't very professional.

Horan was great to work with. They quoted us a lower price than anyone else and the work was excellent. We love our new window! They were very helpful to us when we had trouble making up our minds about the exact type of block to use. Their suggestion to come to the shop and see all the block choices helped us pick the right block for our project as we were very nervous about privacy issues since the window is in the shower. The workers who came out were easy to work with and very efficient. They were a little late coming out, but that was probably due to heavy traffic as we live 20 miles away from their shop.

Horan had 2nd to lowest price from 4 different quotes I got and owner Ken took plenty of time to answer all my many questions and concerns. Windows were ready 3 weeks from date ordered and then took 1 week to schedule installation date that fit both of our schedules. Installers were 2 hours late, but did call to explain the legitimate reason. They did a good job and finished late that same day. The job took longer because we asked them that day to cap 5 more existing windows with same aluminum trim as the new windows so they would match, for which they charged $50 per window. At time of installation I noticed that the cherry finish on one sash was scraped up, another sash had the latch catches missing and the picture window had a few scratches in the glass. (these were factory or shipping problems, not caused by installers.) Ken immediately ordered a new sash, new glass and latch catches from Alside. Two weeks later, Alside called and had their guys replace the damaged parts in less than an hour. It was really nice to have them correct the minor problems with no hassle. The windows look great and both Horan and Alside were very pleasant to do business with. I would highly recommend both of them.

We were looking to upgrade our old basement windows - but did not want to pay $2,400 for 3 vinyl hopper windows. So I researched glass block windows and contact Horan Glass Block. They explained everything over the phone, came out and measured and in less than 2 weeks, our new basement windows were installed. We were very please with their service and would definitely use them again. We have already provided their name to some friends looking to do the same thing for their home.

Wonderful experience. Ken was extremely responsive. Initially, the plan was to replace our 9 existing basement windows with the much more secure glass block (the cost for this piece was $2,380). However, as I began to talk to Ken, I realized that they could help with an old wooden basement door problem we had too. The previous owners of the home had a wood/glass exterior basement door with the bottom cut at an angle to allow water to flow UNDER the door to an interior basement drain. Not only was this an improper way to drain water, but the old wood/glass door provided virtually no security from intruders. Ken came out himself to review the situation and to provide an estimate on this add-on project. Based on his feedback, we agreed to replace the door with a high quality steel entry door but we also needed to provide proper water drainage. His team cut through the cement from the existing drain (which was on the interior side of the door) to a new channel grate and drain on the exterior of the door. There was a cement swatch approximately 6 feet in length, 4 inches wide that was cut out so that the connection drain could be added. Once added, the cement was patched smoothly and professionally. I'm extremely pleased with the quality of the work completed and would gladly recommend this company to others. I will use this company again for other projects.
Description of Work: Ken's team replaced 9 existing basement windows with glass block. In addition, they replaced an existing basement exterior door which required cutting cement to connect an old drain to a new drain including installation of a channel grate at the base of the new door.

I was going to buy the new replacement vent at Menards and try to replace it myself. Stopped at Horan's showroom just for comparison and talked to owner Ken, who showed me their brand of vent, which was much better quality than Menards. He spent almost an hour telling me in detail how to actually do the job myself, without really pushing his product or service. After hearing what was involved and possible pitfalls, I decided to have his people do the work. They came out the next day and did it in less than an hour. Great work, great window, no problems. I would definitely call them for any future window replacement.

The workmen arrived on time. They were courteous and professional. They worked consistently for 7+ hours and remained in good spirits the entire time. They encouraged me to watch their work and welcomed my questions. Totally removed all debris and cleaned up afterwards. The result was totally what I wanted. I have no problem recommending this company.

They stuck to their estimate. The work they did was beautiful! Their prices were half of what another company had quoted me. Even though it should have cost more because there was more work involved, they were the type to stick to their estimates. I will certainly call them when I get all my windows replaced. They are fair, honest and do wonderful work!

I had no problems. They were very responsive to everything. I had looked at several companies. They were referred to me by my neighbor. I went to their offices because they are fairly close to me. I had an appointment with the owner and we talked about replacing the windows. I have nothing but terrific things to say.

When Ken visited the site to measure the windows for a quote he was very friendly, thoroughly described the installation process, and patiently answered my questions. I received the quote in the mail a few days later. I decided to add the garage windows to the project so Mike came out to measure the additional windows. He re-explained how the final product would look in the basement compared to the existing windows. As the glass block windows are not as deep as the original wood windows/storm windows, they typically cover this gap (the brick walls) with concrete to finish off the openings. Because we have wood paneling on the basement walls, he warned me that the brick walls would be exposed because he can not get his trowel close to the walls to apply the concrete down the sides. I really appreciated both Mike and Ken mentioning this as I may not have been that happy with such a surprise after the glass block was installed. This way I knew exactly what I was getting. The installation took four hours and they cleaned up pretty well afterwards. Mike took great care to smooth out the concrete surrounding the new windows. I am really pleased with the end result.
Description of Work: Glass block was installed in eight basement windows and two garage windows. Most of the windows were solid glass block; vents were installed in two of the basement windows.

We found site as we drove down Archer. Stopped in to inquire. Set up an appointment. Within one day someone came, gave us the estimate, and we signed contract. They said the windows would be completed within three weeks. They did not request a deposit. Said we could pay when job was completed. Workers came within three weeks, removed old windows, completed job in one day. Took all old windows and debris.
